Lightroom 4 freezes due to video files
I just installed Lightroom 4 Upgrade on a Mac running Lion. Everything went well until I created a Smart Collection with a file type of video. As soon as I click "Done" on the Smart Collection setup, Lightroom froze. I have to force quit the program and within a couple of seconds of starting the program up it freezes again so I don't even have time to try to delete the Smart Collection I made for videos.
How do I fix this? If I need to uninstall LR4, how do I do that since there is no uninstaller in the downloaded .dmg file. Due to the elaborate nature of Adobe software I'm reluctant to just drag the app into the trash or use the AppCleaner app I have.
This is NOT a very good start and I'M NOT HAPPY!!!!!
UPDATE:
Now Lightroom 4 won't even fininsh starting up before it freezes.
ANOTHER UPDATE:
I couldn't wait for a response so I used AppCleaner to uninstall LR4 and all its associated files and folders; then re-installed it using the .dmg. It installed as it did originally and seems to work fine.
EXCEPT: being re-installed the Smart Collection I made for videos is gone now. However, I went to the folder, while in the Library pane, which contains my iPhone photos and videos (which are the only videos I have in my LR catalog), clicked on the folder containing the videos, and LR FROZE AGAIN. BUT, at least now, after force quiting and restarting, LR seems to work OK. Stay away from video files.
Yet Another Update:
Wrong again. I closed LR4, re-opened it and guess what? IT FROZE ON STARTUP BEFORE IT EVEN FINISHED LOADING AGAIN.
Clearly from my experience and the multitude of postings on this forum, LR4 is not ready for prime time and should still be in beta.
Still Another Update:
The problem seems to revolve around video files and conversion to the 2012 process. I reinstalled LR4 and before updating to the 2012 process and without going near any video file or folders, everything worked fine, including quiting and restarting the program. I then upgraded all my photos to the 2012 process and when I quit and restarted LR it froze again. I did the whole un-install/re-install routine but before I did I moved my video files out of the folder in the catalog and after doing everything as before, LR finally quit and restarted without freezing. So stay away from video files for the time being.

I can't imagine that we're alone in this; perhaps we're the only ones that care enough to post about it. =)
It's not that we don't care, it's that the root cause of how exactly our iPads fail and have error's pop up are so numerous and complex that deciphering them all (along with their causes) would be a full time job! And I'm busy enough with my real one, there's bills to be paid! lol
In response to the actual topic at hand, I did notice deleting my videos made my syncs faster, thank you very much for that suggestion. I mean, I did have to delete ALL my videos to get a noticeable effect, but still, at least now I'm not scared I'm going to burn out my Pad's core every time I add a new song. lol

Lightroom 5 won't play video files
My Canon 60D video (*.mov) files are sucessfully imported to the Lightroom catalog, but Lightroom won't play them in Library\Loupe view.
http://i.imgur.com/EIFSupW.jpg
Strange, but it shows video frames, when I hover mouse from left to right edge of item in Library\Grid view. Seems like output of "Loupe" for video is broken and play control (scroll and buttons) is disabled. Have tried LR 5.0 and LR 5.2 RC.
Quick time 7.7.4 plays this files perfectly.
OS: Windows 8.1 Preview
What can I do?Updated to LR5.2RC. After importing the folder containing 3 video files and 20 CR2 photos into LR5.2RC I had to wait until the folder had finished building the mov preview (which took a while since I was importing from a network NAS drive). I could then move my mouse pointer over the thumbnail and see the movie action.
So then I clicked on one of the mov thumbnails and the video opened in Loupe view and played fine. Went back and check my older video's and they also played fine.
I like to see my video and photos in LR because it helps me place the photos relative to the overall scene shot in the mov. I do my editing in Power Director 11 and then I save as an mp4. I looked at a few of my mp4's and they also seemed to play fine in LR5.2RC
Let me know it you try this and it works for you.

Lightroom 4 and 4.1beta video file import error/failure
Findin that Lightroom 4 and 4.1 are not importing video/movie files. Without exception every attempt made has resulted in an error.
In many cases just the first frame gets imported and converted to a low grade jpg image.
The same files import cleanly in to Aperture 3.x without difficulty.
Software glitch? Or my brain cramp?i too have a mpg file hat will not import in 4.1 RC.
i think it should import fine?!

Premiere CS6 Startup Freeze Due to XMP File
CS6 Production Premium Suite
Win7x64
Canon XA10
Using Windows Explorer, I copy the BDMV folder from the XA10 to my project folder.
Using the Media Browser, I import the clip (which consists of two MTS files).
I edit the clip.
The next day when I open the project, the circle turns with a "not responding" message.
I close the project.
I delete the XMP file in the STREAM folder.
I open the project and everything works.
This has happened on several projects.
Why is it necessary to delete the XMP file?
Somehow it is being corrupted.
Thanks in advance.I don't know what is causing the issue, but if you don't actually use the .xmp file for anything you can just turn off the .xmp option in preferences if you like. This way the issue will go away. If you go to "edit>preferences then select the "media", you can then uncheck the "write xmp ID files on import" option and also for disable the other XMP option right next to it. Then it will stop doing this at least, sorry I don't have a answer for what is causing the issue though, although I would like to attempt to figure one out.
What version of Premiere cs6 are you using?
Also is it only happening with the same exact two files every time? (Basically I'm wondering do other files XMP's cause issues like this specific one does?)
If it is only this one specific file that is causing the problem I'd probably say it's safe to guess that something about that file is just corrupted, and that is probably what is causing the problem.
The other possible work-around though is you can use a .MTS clip merger program that will join the files together rather than using Premiere media browser to join the two seperate clips and see if the .xmp issue stops.
Because cs6 currently has known bugs with AVCHD spanned media. The clip merger works really quickly too, because it doesn't actually encode the media it only merges them. It's also free and simple to use which is always a obvious plus side as well. If you'd like to try it here is the link where you can get it from.

Windows 7 Crashes/Freezes when playing ANY Video files
lets see can anyone get their head around this one as it is driving me round the bend.
So... I have a media centre PC connected to my HDTV by VGA cable. I ran the PC on XP for a long time but last December, I upgraded it to Windows 7
along with my laptop.
Cue 5 months of seamless media usage and network integration - it
worked like a dream and I played both HD and SD content with ease.
About two weeks ago, I was watching an HD '.mkv' file in Windows Media Centre and about 10 minutes into the video, the video file just Froze - both the video and the audio. I had to power down and restart the machine and started the video file again. About
5 minutes after re-starting the video file, it hung again (not at the same place in the video). I then went and watched the video on my laptop where
it worked fine.
A few days after this (first time I had used it again since it hung up) I began watching an SD '.avi' file. About 1 minute into the video the display lost it's signal (the little built in 'no signal' graphic came up) and after a further 15 seconds, the audio
cut out as well.
This latter behaviour is now happening every single time I try to watch any kind of SD or HD video of any file extention. This problem is also independant of what video player I use (windows media centre and windows media player classic) After a minute or so
the display cuts out and the audio quickly follows it.
Suffice to say, I was a little annoyed but knowing a good bit about computers I
decided to try and solve the problem taking the following steps.
1) I uninstalled all my codecs and reinstalled the latest version of the K-Lite Codec pack. The latest version has support for windows 7 so I doubt its a compatibility issue here. After doing this the problem still persisted, exactly the same as before.
2) I checked the date of the drivers for my video card (MSI nVidia 6200) and seen that they were dated sept 2009. I went onto the nVidia site and found the latest win7 drivers dated april 2010 - I installed these but still the problem is there.
3) I then thought, maybe its a problem with the actual video card hardware itself. When I built my machine the parts supplier accidentally
sent me two of the same video card so I swapped out the existing one for a brand spanking new version of the same card. The problem is still EXACTLY the same.
So yes -I am rather annoyed and frustrated at the moment as I have absolutely no idea what is wrong with the machine and how it went from working to not working almost overnight.
I'd like to add also that the display is perfect when doing anything else on the computer - I can surf, play youtube videos, listen to music etc and it is absolutely no problem.
Put on a video and it cuts out the display like I have explained.
halp.Hello Tim,
I decided to do a clean install, a fresh new installation of windows and all its updates, I didn't get the option of
install SP1 yet.
After that I only installed Catalyst drivers: 11.5 and Realtek HD audio drivers, all downloaded on May 24 2011.
Then latest FFDShow and MPC-HC to test, both x64 versions Nothing else installed.
Only a fresh copy of windows with its updates and those mentioned drivers.
To my surprise, it happened a gain.
It still crashes after a while when playing MKV videos.
It's weird, because it doesn't happen with avi's or mp4's.
So, there must be something wrong with one of windows updates that creates this windows FREEZE.
Also there is no possibility to find out what error it is in "Event Viewer" as nothing gets recorded there. Anyone could
advise?
Thanks -

Bridge CC - 64 bit freezes when selecting a video file icon in content view
On a 64-bit PC (12 core, 64 GIG RAM) with solid state hard drive and Nvidia Quadra 4000 video card with latest driver. I have purged cache, I have reset preferences, I have changed shortcut to Run As Administrator. I've tried to find a way to run in 32-bit mode but can't find a way to do it. I've also looked to see how I can install a 32-bit version with Adobe Cloud but can't find anything. Any ideas how to stop Bridge CC 64-bit from continually freezing upon selecting a video file icon?
Hi Yammer,
Thanks for the response. From what I can tell it is all video file types. The ones I most consistently have are .wmv, .mov, .mp4. I have also changed the file associations from the default video players to VLC to see if it was a Quicktime or Windows Media Player issue and that didn't solve it. -
Using Lightroom 5.2 cannot upload mp4 video files to Flickr.
When i used the older Lightroom 3 I was able to upload video files (.mov) to Flickr. Now, with LR5.2 Flickr shows those files as grayed out .mp4 files and do not upload.
Same camera, Canon 7D, so what's happening? Is the problem at Flickr's end? I don't think so.Seventy nine viewers and not a single comment. Surely there must be some experts out there?

Unable to import/preview any video file using Lightroom 5/5.2
Hi,
I am a fairly new user to Lightroom (around 4 months), and have been fascinated by the capabilities of this software when it comes to photos. From the start, I used to notice (but chose to ignore) that lightroom would not be able to import any of my video files successfully (all in supported formats such as avi, mov, mp4, usually mov from my Nikon DSLR). Recently, I have started digging around to find a solution for this and fix this issue of not being able to preview or import any video file. I have gone through most of the related posts around the interwebs about this (including installing QuickTime, checking my AntiVirus, checking specific processes whether they are running or not). As a last attempt to resolve this, I am hoping to get some expert help on this form. As a sample of the error message which I get to see everytime is attached below. Also given below is my system info. I can provide further debugging information if required, but I really, desperately want this to work and be able to import videos. Thanks a bunch!

"Get info" on video files freezes iTunes for minutes.
When I right click a video file and select "get info", iTunes always freezes for at least 60 seconds. Then it shows the normal tag info. If I change anything and press ok it freezes again, then it works as it should (with the edited info saved properly). This is making it impossibly time consuming for me to organize my TV-Shows to my new iPod.
No issue with audio files, but all mp4 video I've tried so far gives me this issue (from movies of 2 hours to YouTube clips of 10 seconds length).
I have tried reinstalling with the newest version to no effect. I'm clueless, can't find anybody else with the same problem.
+_Help me please._+This has always been the case for me. I thought it was normal behavior for iTunes.

My iPhoto 11, V 9.4.2, locks up/freezes when I attempt to empty the iPhoto trash bin.
Originally, I thought it was due to 800+ files in the trash, however, I removed all but 5 photo files from the trash and it continues to lock up. Inititally the "progress" bar would get to about 1/2 way and then it would stop and stall. However, now the progress bar no longer shows a progress line it immediately freezes and locks up. Can anyone help? You may have damaged the library - Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library

Can't Play Video Files in Lightroom 4
I can import video files (.mov) into Lightroom 4 but I can't play them. I can play them in Photoshop CS6 Beta. The Control Bar with the "Play" icon doesn't show and the space bar does nothing.
I've tried to restore all the settings, but it didn't work. Does anybody have any other solutions for this problem?

Passing video files from Lightroom 5 to Premier Elements 10
Can I export video from Lightroom 5 to Premiere Elements 10 for editing? The "edit in" option seems not to work for video files - the options are dimmed out. I have no problem exporting still pictures for editing in Photoshop or Premiere Elements 10.
Video files don't need to be exported from Lightroom. They are simply located in a folder on your computer. You can go to Premiere Elements and go to that folder and utilize the video files. Or, you may want to use your system browser and copy the video files to a more convenient folder, depending on your Premiere Elements file organization methods.

Premiere CS3 Freezes when 'Generating Peak File' for Video Clips
Well the title explains it all really.
I'm importing a large 7.5 gb video file (.avi) and in the bottom corner it says 'Generating Peak File for xxxx'.
Which is fine until the bar is right at the end, and Premiere freezes on me and I have to end the process..
Thanks for your time!
