Lightroom 4 importing causing program to crash.

Lightroom 4 will not import files. Windows 7 pop-up states; "there is a problem with this program that is preventing it from running correctly will check for solution". "Windows failed to find a solution must shut down program now".
This prevents the import page from loading or working and no images can be imported using usb or SATA connections. Was able to use computer's built-in card-reader to read from Sd and compact cards, those were able to run in the import window only because of preference setting. "when a Memory card is installed import files" (preference-setting).  Any other means of importing files, the out-come is the program crashing and being shut down. All other functions outside the import menu seem to be working. Deleting all catalogs and then using the default catalog setting,  failed to clear issue.
System info: Windows 7 64-bit, Intel i7 cpu, 16 gigs of ram, 4 one terabyte hard-drives.
Solutions tried. Removing Lightroom 4, all catalogs, then running defrag, registry cleaner, before attempting to re-installing lightroom 4.  Removing lightroom 4 and installing lightroom 3.6 fails to fix issue. Removing all Lightroom products from hardrive,Including the windows program folder, windows programs data folder. Then rebooting re-running defrag, registry cleaner and re-installing lightroom 4 fails to fix importing issue. No way to contact support and links to user group fail to take me to correct user group. Question with the lead as lightroom 4 importing causes program to crash. Takes me to everything but lightroom solutions!  Now this takes me to photoshop user group which has nothing to do with lightroom. With lightroom 4 in the question itself, I get everything but lightroom solutions!

Camera raw is built into Lightroom. It is the engine that makes the corrections within an image. You might not see as a seperate program, like earlier versions of Lightroom. Or having to launch it in a new window to work in camera raw. In version 4 of Lightroom it was made seamless and built into Lightroom.
Lightroom 4 was installed in the admin log-in window. I have all useage rights to any file lightroom creates or adjusts. I am thinking that the Photoshop CS6 beta created some working problem within Lightroom 4. Now that the beta-test program is over, I think the problem is a result of removing Photoshop's last build, before the public beta was released. I do hope, Adobe is working on a solution for people experiencing importing problems with Lightroom 4. I am just grabbing at straws here, trying to find something that will work. I think the problem will go away once computer has the new camera raw build 7.0 that ships in Photoshop CS6. With so many versions of camera raw installed on the computer, I think Lightroom is having issues as a result. Let's hope a patch is in the works, Lightroom 4 is useless if importing files doesn't work correctly.
B&H photo is taking pre-orders for the creative suites, right now. The only way to get support is by purchasing a subscription. Otherwise it is a $35.00 per issue fee. So, I am not sure of what upgrade path I will take. Not loving the cloud at all, with this year of Hackers, I seriously doubt that any cloud will prove to be safe to use. Why would, I want to post my hard work to a cloud where anyone can steal it? But that is a different topic.
For right now the only way to import is by creating an empty folder on the same hard-drive that Lightroom resides on. Setting up auto-import in Lightroom Pref. file to check that empty folder. Folder has to be empty to set up. Then dragging image files into that empty folder. I discovered that Lightroom 4 will not open or look in sub-folders for images. Which means you lose keeping a day's worth of shooting seperate from other folders. Where Lightroom version 3.6 you could. There was a second auto-import that worked, with my built-in memory-card reader. Where in the Lightroom pref.file you can tell Lightroom to auto-import, when a memory-card is detected. ( this is the least viable option, because more memory card become damaged removing and reinstalling them). These were the only two methods, I could get images into Lightroom 4 and prevent Lightroom from crashing.  Might have to go back to using Nikon NX to import my images and using Bridge to catalog them.

  • Lightroom 4 importing cases program to crash

There are no warnings other than a dislog box in windows 7 to pop up and say there is a problem we will let you know when a solution becomes available. Then Lightroom closes.
No error code or other identifers. Unistalling and reinstalling lightroom 4 fails to clear problem. Deleting all catalogs has no effect. Program is worthless, if it cannot import image files!
Not liking new lack of support at Adobe!
Running windows 7 64-bit with intel i7 cpu 16 gigs of ram and 4 one terabyte hard-drives.

I found usb and hard-drive connections will cause importing to fail and the program to crash as stated above.
Adding Memory card to computer's card reader will allow an import.
But all stored image files on back-up drive will not import and I get the crashing of the program everytime!
Nothing seems to clear up the problem, so the software is worthless at this point.

  • Two problematic emails - cause program to crash if i try to delete or move them in any way

    RE: Ipad email issues
I have two problematic emails that seem to be empty. I cannot delete them. They cause the email program to crash each time I attempt to read, delete or file them.

    Try this:
First create an empty folder...no photos in it...now, connect your phone and under the photos tab select sync photos & select this folder. Since there is nothing in it, no photos will be added to your phone, but hopefully this will remove the photos that are on your phone.

  • Photomerge CS5 causes program to crash!

Trying new CS5 on brand new laptop but each time I try and use photomerge it causes photoshop to crash. Trying uninstall and reinstall but still happens.
    System:
    Windows 7 64bit
    Intel i7 - 2630QM 2nd gen
    Nvidia Geforce GT540M 2GB
    8GB Ram
    750 GB HD
Any ideas? tried to find answer but nothing helpful as yet?

Well, one other possibility is that it's having trouble accessing your scratch or TEMP areas.
Ensure your username has Full Control privileges on the root folder(s) of the drive(s) you have identified as Scratch, as well as the folder identified by your TEMP environment variable.  Try running Photoshop "As Administrator" first to see if permissions/UAC are involved with the problem.
Lastly, double check on nVidia.com that you have nVidia's latest display drivers.  For what it's worth, it seems like an inordinately large number of Quadro users report problems with display drivers, while you'd think nVidia should do an especially good job for such an expensive video card.

  • WebKit causing programs to crash...?

I'm using an intel-based Macbook Pro (2.33GHz core 2 duo, 3 GB RAM) with OS X 10.5.8. I recently upgraded to Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5, and just a couple of weeks ago downloaded the 12.0.1 PS update.
PS started crashing on me a lot. It happens in HDR Pro or when I'm using the new Mixer Brush. Sometimes just trying to get PS to merge images in HDR Pro will do it (I never even get to the editor), sometimes I get the editor, but it crashes before I can finish the edit and create the tone-mapped image. When using the mixer brush, I can work for 30 or 40 minutes sometimes, and then PS is gone. I posted the crash reports on Adobe's CS5 forum. and the employee who responded said the reports are different (always thread 0 that crashes, but the crash seems to be different), it means the heap is being corrupted but they couldn't tell where or when from the crash reports. End of discussion, unfortunately.
It was then that I discovered that Lightzone wouldn't start. It said it "encountered an internal error." It didn't matter if anything else was running or not, and I haven't been able to get it up since (all this in the past 2 weeks). Lightcrafts asked to see the log file Lightzone keeps, and said the log indicates the problem is in WebKit. They wanted to know if I was using a Safari beta, which I'm not. I got back on the Adobe forum and asked if PS uses WebKit, which it does.
I re-installed Lightzone, in case something had been corrupted in the file. No help. And it seems a bit unlikely that all this (both LZ and PS crashing) would be unrelated. It also seems unlikely to me that PS could do anything to the system that would permanently change it so another program couldn't start (even after restarting the computer several times and PS--or anything else I'm aware of--not up and running). So now it's looking like the OS.
I have my system set to automatically check for updates, and I don't pay too close attention, only to glance at it and note that it is a system update, or iTunes, or a security update, or...), so I don't remember if OS X was updated recently. However, is some recent update to WebKit causing my programs to fail?
    Thanks,
    Michael

A further update… My wife found a site where others were complaining about various problems after upgrading to Snow Leopard. I had not been looking at sites complaining about Snow Leopard, because I didn’t upgrade and am still using Leopard (10.5.8). But, any port in a storm. The site mentioned two possible solutions others had used. The first was to safe boot and then try to use the program that had been failing (I’m not sure trying to use the offending program has anything to do with it—I think it’s just the safe boot that’s important). If it worked, then boot normally and try to use the program again. I did this, and Lightzone has been opening fine ever since. Also, oddly, Photoshop has stopped crashing on me.
The site says that what’s happening is that all the permissions are being re-written on safe boot. Kind of makes sense for Lightzone, which couldn’t even open, but is harder to see fro PS. Maybe it’s about permission to access memory, which seems odd. Well, I wouldn’t really know either way, but it seems to have worked.

  • Trying to print causes programs to crash, HELP!

I have MacBook pro 2.2Gz 15.4" with 10.5.2 running. I recently returned home from university and am now using my laptop at home again. I needed to print a pdf from my computer on my mom's printer. I've had no problems doing this in the past, so I proceeded as normal; I opened it in Preview, I pressed print, clicked add printer, and found her shared printer on the list. Then the program crashed, giving me this error:
    http://i30.tinypic.com/29lfybt.jpg
Now every single time I try to print from preview it crashes and gives me that error. I just tried printing from Camino, and it worked once, and then proceeded to crash the program every time. I tried from microsoft word, and it crashed too. I used spotlight to search for that plugin, as well as looked in my plugins folder, and I can't find anything.
    HELP!

bump, can anyone help? I cant print anymore.

  • Why does PSE 10 Landscape Panorama feature cause program to crash?

I've used this feature for a long time, but now it no longer works. Every time I try to invoke it, the program crashes. Other features seem to work fine, but the landscape panorama does not. I've tried repairing the installation, I've uninstalled/reinstalled, but neither has solved the issue. I'd appreciate any suggestions or ideas--thanks!

Try making a direct shortcut for the Editor.
On Windows, Right click anywhere on the desktop and select New >> Shortcut
Then click the browse button and navigate to:
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe"
Then click Next; then click Finish.
To launch, try right-clicking on the new desktop icons and choose “Run As Administrator” which often improves stability.

  • Slideshow just after import causes iPhoto to crash and new pics to vanish

iPhoto shutdown on me after clicking play in a slide show. I didn't save the shutdown message tho.
But the slide show was going to be for pics that I had just imported from an sd memory card. When I restarted iPhoto, the pics did not show up anywhere. I couldn't find them at all in iPhoto and I had already deleted them from the sd card when I was prompted after the import. I should mention that the iPhoto library to which I was uploading is on my 1TB Time Capsule, just cos that library is too big for my internal hd. The TC connection is typically wireless by default but I directly connected my MacPro for speed's sake. I'm still not sure if TC automatically uses the wired connection when it becomes available tho...
I figure the pics have to be on the TC somewhere, as iPhoto took forever to import them and then gave the usual option to erase the sd card afterwards. (In hindsight, i obviously shouldn't have erased the sd card that quickly, but I've never had that problem.)
Is there some way that I can find the pics outside of iPhoto?
    Many thanks!

    Greetings,
You can open your Time Capsule up and use the Find command as described in this article to try and find the images: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1995
Be aware that putting an iPhoto Library on a network drive like a Time Capsule is not recommended and can cause damage to your library and data loss (like right now) not to mention odd behavior.
Use a USB or Firewire drive to store your iPhoto Library to avoid issues in the future.
If you cannot find your pictures using the Find command, you can attempt to recover them off the media card. As long as you have not used the card you have a fairly good chance of recovering the information:

If you would rather have a data recovery specialist do the work for you.
You can contact a local Apple Authorized Provider to see if they offer data recovery services: http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/
There are many nationwide / worldwide data recovery companies out there. Here are a few examples:

  • Changing printing presets causes programs to crash

I print documents from several programs: MS Word, preview, Adobe, OpenOffice, and Pages, among others. I have several printing presets saved to handle different printing jobs. The presets include paper feed, picture quality, information like that.
For some reason, whenever I try to change presets, the program I am in suddenly quits. It happens in every program and every file type - word processing doc, JPEG, PDF, whatever.
Any idea what is happening? I have no idea where to start. If I try to edit the presets, any program quits and changes are not saved. Is there a master file of my presets that is corrupted? If so, could I just delete that file and re-create my presets? Or is there something else? Any help is greatly appreciated.
    thanks

Printer presets are saved in your user Library (aka ~/Library) in a folder called Preferences and will be named "com.apple.print.custompresets.forprinter.printername.plist". So you can try trashing these files to see if that helps.

  • Xbmc - avi files cause program to crash (log included)

After recent updates I am unable to play any avi files on my media center with xbmc, attempting to do so crashes xbmc and returns me to my desktop.
I'm using nvdpau, audio out via hdmi, and all other formats of video (and all audio) seem to work fine.
I've tried it with multiple .avi files including ones that worked recently.
Also, these files seem to play fine with vlc.
It appears to be an issue with the sound?

    Nop, issue is with VDPAU.
    Try xbmc-svn and/or take a look here http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=72871&p=15
Make sure you have the latest drivers and libvdpau is installed.

  • Why would dragging certain audio clips (or cutting said clips) cause program to crash?

    Amateur Doug here!!!
In CS 5.5, when I highlight and drag some audio clips, the program freezes and won't shut down unless I power off. Ditto when I cut the clips to paste elsewhere.
    I rebooted, same result.
I made a duplicate sequence same result.
I tried to cut the clips, same result.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated, because each experiment requires waiting for computer to reboot so it might be days before I find a workaround...

I got help for this issue over at CreativeCow's FCP pages -- it turns out, all I had to do was open a new project using an easy setting and project setting for vanilla PAL 25 fps SD stuff. All of the audio was correctly brought in -- then I disconnected all of the clips, made them dual mono, reconnected them, and copied them over to my old gristly project folder.
Now I can marry these dual mono 25fps files to the video files without having FCP incorrectly compensate for "30fps" by speeding these clips up slightly, so things stay in sync.
