Lightroom 4/Lightroom 2 book
I'm a hands on person who has learned some computer knowledge over time. I have a digital camera and have had a beginning course in Photoshop. I have about 9 thousand digital photos filed, backed up, keyworded, etc... I've got a nice digital photo organization I've crafted on my own. I've been religious about keeping this up. I went looking for a cataloging program. I latched on to Lightroom a few years ago. I got the big Lightroom 2 book by Martin Evening. I have gone thru this book twice taking notes and now the third time around I am making progress toward really understanding Lightroom better. My question is, can I buy Lightroom4 and be able to know my way around it by my Lightroom 2 book notes? I have, so far, zero people to ask (unless here) if I run into problems installing and using Lightroom4. I do not have any Lightroom program yet. I would have to buy another computer for this. I have a job that tires me out and I do not have a lot of free time or money to call in questions if I need help. But I thought that Lightroom 4 could not be that different from Lightroom 2. Could I even buy Lightroom 2 or 3 if Lightroom 4 would be so different from 2? Thank You very much for any information on this.

a lot changed from v2 to v4.
my advice is to buy a v4 book!
especially as the process versions change old workflows are not the best anymore.

On which operating system are you trying to install these Adobe apps?
Please specify the operating system name and version.
If you have purchased new Macbook Pro, then you should have atleast Mac OSX 10.9 or later. However, i doubt you will be able to install most of these apps on it as they are pretty old apps except CS5 & Lr4.
Still you can give it a shot and check.
What happens when you try to install them?
Do you get any error message? An error screenshot or full text of the error, should be helpful.

Please can someone tell me why I cannot reinstall my upgrade from lightroom 4 (lightroom 3 installed off disc with serial no) my hard drive crashed, and I am trying to get lightroom 3; 4 and 5 back on so that I can link my catalogues and continue work. I cannot install lightroom 5 until the upgrades from 4 are on the pc, (lightroom 3 installed off disc but 4 is a copy of the upgrade download I got when I bought it) These serial no's are legit and are registered under my account with adobe, but it still gives me the Big Red Cross when I put my serial no in! Please can someone help. I am at a loss. Thx Heidi

You don't need to have Lightroom 3 and 4 installed on your computer to install Lightroom 5. Just install Lightroom 5 and input your serial number for 3 in the previous version box and your serial number for 5 in the upgrade box. -
Hello!, my name is jan and i am using lightroom 2 for many years. I have an original set-up disk with a 24 digit serial number. I had never problems wih installation of lightroom. suddenly lightroom refuses to start when I try to from a picture i have taken with my nikon D500 and transferred to WINDOWS 8.1. i have tried to re-install lightroom : the procedure asks for the serieal number , but refuses to accept the number that always worked. If you are certain you have the right serial number, there really isn't much we can help you with here. You might try downloading and installing the last version of Lightroom 2. It will be the trial version, but when the trial screen appears there is an option to indicate that you have a serial number. Incidentally, Lightroom serial numbers start with the first four digits being 1160.

I have the latest Creative Cloud versions of Lightroom and Lightroom Mobile on my Ipad. On my desktop I have created a collection which I have put in a custom order. On my Ipad I go into that collection and set the order to custom order, which I presume means the order I have on my desktop. However, the photos on the Ipad seem to be just random photos from the collection THEN the rest of the collection is in the correct order after that.
Do you have virtual copies in your collection?

You can trigger the Lr Desktop diagnostig log via LR Desktop preferences -> Lightroom Mobile and when you hold down the alt key you will notice a generate diagnostic log button.
The Lr Mobile app log can be triggered when you open up the settings and long press the to LR Icon a diagnostic log will be generated and attached to your local mail client. While opening the settings could you double check if you are signed-in?

When I downloaded PhotoShop CC to my iMac it was suppose to include Lightroom. Lightroom was already running as a free trial. Now the trial has expired and PSCC asks for the Lightroom serial number. What to do?
Lets clear a couple of things up first.
1, You have the Photographers CC subscription which gives you access to PSCC and the current version of Lightroom.
2. PSCC does not include Lightroom.
Now what you will need to do is delete the Lightroom app on your iMac and restart the Mac. Then you can d/load Lightroom from the CC app. -

If you have subscribed to the creative cloud photography plan then Lightroom is included as part of that plan. You can install it from the creative cloud desktop manager.

Why does my book not upload to Blurb from the Lightroom 4.2 book module?
I am trying to up load a 40 page 12" x 12" photo book to Blurb from the book module in Lightroom 4.2. It renders the pages and then having rendered the cover gets stuck, about 50% to 60% through the process. None of the photographs are starred or colour coded. I have uploaded successfully from this iMac in the last few weeks. I please advise.

I have had the same problem for a week. I have made about 25 attempts to upload an admittedly large book, and finally got one over to Blurb. The next problem is that some of the pictures are upside down! Blurb are referring me to Lightroom support as they say they only print the books. Some of the messages I got when trying to upload the books were general failure messages, but some said "problem with Blurb servers". -
When we save a book in Lightroom 4.4 and take our drive (where the images files and catalog are located) to another computer, the book, saved as a book in collections, is gone. Please help!

Can I get a Lightroom 5 Blurb book saved as a PDF on my desktop reloaded into LR to make edits
I made a Blurb book with Lightroom 5 saved it (I thought) in Lightroom and as a PDF on my desktop. When I got a print copy back from blurb I want to make edits. When I went to find the book in LR5 there was no sign of it. How can I upload the PDF version on my desktop back into LR5
I don't think that would be possible. Once you exported the book as a PDF file, that file had all the edits, selections, layout, etc. "baked in" to the PDF, so you can't then reverse-engineer the file so it can be re-opened in the Book module. Also, as far as I know LR doesn't support PDF in the various modules - it can only be used for certain exports that are intended to be used elsewhere.
Do you have previous catalogue backups? Perhaps the book is contained within one?

How do I import photos from iPhoto to Lightroom on mac book air?
Iv'e read in several forums that to do this you must go into the finder right click on iPhoto. Click show package contents. This pulls up a file named contents. All of the forums say to either look for a masters file or a original file and copy and paste it to the desktop. This is supposed to then allow lightroom to see the packaged file. I can't seem to find either file. Im not sure if its because the forum is outdated or if they just completely changed the name of the file with a newer update. Either way I tried to do this with a couple of the files I thought might work i.e.. library, mac os. Nothing has worked. I am very new to using mac. I just literally bought this computer yesterday so I really don't want to try to much blindly but being able to edit images with professional software is the whole reason why I bought it. Pleases Help!!!!!!
I just looked on my computer and it appears that they moved the folder location. In Finder, go to the "pictures" folder and then right click on the iPhoto library and select show package contents. I was then able to find a Masters Library with a bunch of sub folders that contained the files.
I think the issue is that you were selecting the iPhoto application.

Installing adobe lightroom on mac book pro
Hi Im trying to install lightroom 3 on my laptop running on OSX Lion v10.7 and its not working.
When I double click the lightroom 3 disk on my desktop and then double click the 'adobe lightroom 3 . pkg' it opens the terminal program
and it says this in the box:

Am I missing a step here? or is there a compatibility issue with Lion?
thank you!Ianilan679 it should be associated with an application titled Installer. If you get info you should be able to select it per the screenshot below. Also once selected I would recommend clicking on the change all button.

I create a book in LR4 and submitted to Blurb to print. Fantastic.
When I upgraded to LR5, for some reason the book is no \longer in collections. I would hate to loose all the hard work. Is there a way to find it?

MikeWithout knowing your catalog structure/usage, it is hard to say. We would need more information. Presumably, you still have LR 4 and the catalog from which the book was uploaded and could recreate it?
Also, Blurb keeps this stuff on file. It is probably still at Blurb (in finished form - not editable, I fear).
