Lightroom 4 MAC install question

I purchased lightroom 4 last year in hard copy. I now have a MAC with no external CD drive. I have the serial number for Lightroom. How do install it onto my Mac?

http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=113&platform=Macintosh
Download the latest version LR 4.4.1 from the link above. Your serial number will activate the install. If your LR 4 license is an upgrade then you will also need the earlier version License.

What is going on with this lightroom 5, I just installed and it my icon still shows that I am in Lightroom 2?
Why do I have to be in this forum and not dealing directly with lightroom staff?

There's a chat facility for Adobe staff at http://adobe.ly/yxj0t6 but those frequenting this forum usually more knowledgeable, so you're better off here.
So how about you tell us exactly what's happening?  When you installed LR5, it will have been added to your Applications folder.  Have you gone into the Applications folder and opened Lightroom 5?  It sounds like you're still trying to use a LR2 icon, perhaps in your dock, instead of the new LR5 one.

  • The desktop on which I had Lightroom and PhotoshopCC installed failed and I no longer have access to it. How do I deactivate the software on those machines so that I can reinstall it on my new Mac?

Question: The desktop on which I had Lightroom and PhotoshopCC installed failed and I no longer have access to it. How do I deactivate the software on those machines so that I can reinstall it on my new Mac?

Absolutely - but I had no idea there were two versions. When I got my new laptop I just went to the Adobe site to download and install LR5. It never asked if I had a license; it just directed me to install CC to start a trial which I thought I could license after downloading. Several sessions and many hours of looking through the forums and Google for an answer I never ran across anything that made this distinction. I still haven't found a path from www.adobe.com that would get me to the standalone download page (it's probably there, wasn't obvious to me) and looking at the download page it doesn't make any CC/standalone distinction.
There are many places I could have gotten a hint - for instance the license could be tagged "stand alone edition", the CC-version could recognize the stand-alone key and either accept it or produce a more meaningful error message, or the download site or the CC app could ask if I had previously purchased a key, etc.
It was my error to assume this was a deactivation problem, but it looked the same as a previous deactivation problem with Photoshop.
In any event, thank you for your help.

  • New Hard Drive: Mac Face/Question Mark on boot

I installed a new hard drive in my fathers iBook G4 1.33 GHz and installed Leopard. I instantly had problems after the installation was complete and the computer restarted. I got the Mac Face/Question Mark for a second and then it booted to the installation CD.
I used disk utilities to verify and repair the disk and permissions which both finished successfully. I tried to reboot with the same result: Mac Face/Question Mark for a second and then it booted to the installation CD. I decided to erase and reinstall Leopard. Installation complete - Restart - Mac Face/Question Mark. I decided to turn if off for the night.
I powered up in the morning with short-lived success, as I got the Leopard Welcome video. I set up the system and did some software updates, which eventually required a restart. Boom. Mac Face/Question Mark. I decided to hold the option key on my next restart to see if I could select the hard drive installation over the install CD. I was able to do so, and it booted fine to the hard drive. I continued my software updating, installed some more software like iLife '08, Firefox, Open Office, Stuffit Expander, etc. After all my installation and updating, the system operates great, except when I have to start up. I still have the Mac Face/Question Mark.
I have a theory that the hard drive jumper is set incorrectly, but I don't want to waste 45 mins. cracking the thing open to find out. Can anyone confirm? I'm open to all other theories, of course.

No jumper means Cable Select (CS). This would mean that the cable from the motherboard to the drive has a blue connector at the motherboard and a black connector on the end where the drive plugs in. The gray connector in the middle is the Slave position. Master/Slave relationship is determined by where on the cable the device is plugged in.
The CS cables and the setting was not used very often until around 2004 or 2005. Until that time all of the connectors on the cable were the same color and the Master/Slave setting was determined by the jumper on the drive.
It's very possible that you are trying to use a drive that's been setup for the newer systems as Cable Select, when actually you should force the drive to be a Master by installing a jumper on the proper pins.
Are there two deviced on the cable besides the motherboard, and are all of the connectors the same color? Or is the connector that plugs into the motherboard black? Then you are probably not looking at a CS buss.

  • Help! Lightroom freezes after installing.

I get this message after trying to create or open a catalog: "An error occured when attemting to change modules." Then Lightroom freezes.
I work on a Mac and have formatted and reinstalled my systemdisk with a qlean install. I had Lightroom installed and have used it for some years. But when installing the programs again I went for the Creative Cloud solution. When I tried to open my previous catalog I got this error message. And after several deinstallings and reinstallings I still get the same message and Lightroom freezes.
    Anyone who can help?

    Hi Ian.
Thank you for answering. But I find no such file in Preferences. I think Lightroom freezes before making the preference file. Other solutions?
    Best wishes,
    Magne

  • What do we do with the Lightroom 5 CC install if we already have non-CC Lightroom 5.2 installed?

The correct process on how to handle the Lightroom CC installation when an existing non-CC LIghtroom installation is already present is not explaned anywhere.
    The question is:
If we are subscribing to CC, and we already have non-CC Lightroom 5.2 installed in the computer, do we have to uninstall the existing non-CC Lightroom  5.2 installation, then install the Lightroom 5 CC install, and then update again to LIghtroom 5.2 throught the Lightroom Help menu?
If we don´t do that, the Lightroom entry on the CC application stays showing Lightroom as "Uninstalled".

You could just download from the Creative Cloud desktop App by clicking the install button. But it may get confusing having a perpetual license installation and a CC installation. However it should be no different to the situation when CC first started and users had both versions of CS6 installed.
Personally I would make a catalog backup and then uninstall and deactivate the existing application.
I would then download within CC which will be given a different serial number. Mine was automatically generated during the installation process and shows up at My Adobe >> My Subscriptions. At least then you won’t have to purchase LR in future.
You would then be free to use your perpetual license elsewhere, sell it or give it away.
N.B. Your images, folders and catalog won’t be touched and will reappear when you reinstall/catalog upgrade.

  • Says Lightroom 4 is installed, when 5 is installed

    Hi everyone!
I have Lightroom 5.3 installed on my mac. The CC app says I have 4 installed. So I have to manually update through my web browser. I did a chat with adobe, and was told to delete Lightroom 5.3 and reinstall through creative cloud. I am afraid if I do that I will have to reinstall all my plugins, and setup all my accounts again (flickr, facebook, etc...), and possibly all my smart collections as well. Can anyone chime in with some advice on whether or not I am correct, and if so the best way to approach this?
    Thank you!

You won't have to reinstall your plugins, etc.  All of that should survive the uninstall.  I just did an uninstallation of non-CC 5.2 and then installed CC 5.3, and it was totally transparent; my catalogs, settings, etc. came through unimpeded.  (This was in Windows.)

So heres the deal (im on a mac).
I uninstalled CC and reinstalled. After restarting my computer, CC said I had 4 and 5 installed. I then went to the adobe uninstaller utility in the utilities folder, and clicked uninstall 4 (even though it wasnt installed).
Now everything seems to be good to go.
    Hope this helps!

  • How do I tell the CC application manager that Lightroom is not installed on my pc?

Before i got CC i was using Lightroom 5 swedish version for evaluation. I used application manager to install an English version by setting the language to English but language after CC installation of Lightroom is still Swedish. Checking the language settings again after installation it was set to English. Now I uninstalled Lightroom using control panel to remove it completely and my intention was to reinstall it from CC. However, the application manager still claims that Lightroom is installed. How do I get the CC application manager to understand that lightroom is not installed and when I do reinstall it it should be in English?

This has nothing to do with your pictures. As long as LR works, nothing happens. The CC app merely has lost an entry in the installer database. Would a reinstall fix it? Sure. Is it necessary? Not really (until the next version or update). So unless you have too much time to spend or something isn't working, I'm sure you can find more interesting things to do with your tiem. Otherwise use the cleaner tool and get to it:

Adobe Creative Cloud says that lightroom 5 is installed but it is not on my computer, but I wish to use it. How can I install it??

I wouldn't think changing your password would have an impact but signing out of the Creative Cloud app and back in again might be something else to test. You might also try installing the trial version of Lightroom 5 and see if it appears in the list in the Creative Cloud app afterwards.
