Lightroom 4 multiple platforms???

I want to buy Lightroom 4 and it's mentioned for multiple platforms.
Can the downloaded file be used for both Mac and Windows 8???
I'm using Win8 now but want to change to Mac within 6 moths.

Just to understand correct - it means there are both an dmg and exe file? or
do I have to choose when selecting the download file?

Your serial number is for version 5 and not for Lightroom 6. If will install LR 6 you have to buy a update and the you get a new serial number.

I still can't get my contacts to open in Numbers like they used to do. I have a group of five addresses in a test folder in Mail called "untitled group." But no amount of pasting, dragging, etc can get them to open up in Numbers. My "real" folder has almost 100 addresses so I can't do it one by one.
Thoughts?

You can place contacts in a table In Numbers by the following methods:
Numbers 2.3:
drag from contacts
Numbers 3.2
copy from contacts, then paste into Numbers
In both cases you need to open System preferences, then select the "Security & Privacy panel and allow Numbers aaccess your contacts information.

How do you have a single test case run on multiple platforms in both a Deploy/Test build and via MTM?

I am wanting to have a scheduled nightly build execute my testcases for multiple platforms/configurations. I have multiple VMs running in these environments but the method Microsoft provided
(without digging into customizing the build template) doesn't provide any functionality for this. This is a basic use case for automation that I can't believe they would miss. Has anyone run into this and found a solution. Is it just that
you have to completely customize the template?

I want to set up a home network to be able to watch my movies and litsen to music across multiple platforms without keeping my laptop connected.

I want to set up a home network to be able to watch my movies and litsen to music across multiple platforms. I have movies purchased from itunes as well as movies from my DVD collection that i converted to an .m4v format. I currently have these movies stored on an external harddrive. To watch a movie on my apple tv I have to ensure my external hard drive is connected to my macbook pro, then play the movie on my macbook pro and "mirror" it to my apple tv.
Ideally I would like to be able to watch movies from my collection without having to have my laptop on and work from that. Is it possible to navigate my collection from my Apple TV and play it on my Apple TV. My macbook pro is the machine I primarily use for work and school it is quite the protological nuissance to have to hook all that up everytime I want to watch a movie.
My thoughts are that I could take my old dekstop pc, attach an external hard drive to that and make that my "media storage". If I were to do that would I then be able to watch movies as well as select which movie I want to watch from my library through my apple TV without my macbook pro being in the equation? Or if I should desire to watch a movie from my library through my Macbook Pro, Iphone 4s, and ipad is that possible? I basically want to set up my library to be accessible from any of my devices.
My devices are; the previously mentioned Apple Tv, macbook pro, iphone 4s, ipad 3. I also have a desktop PC running windows 7, xbox 360 and playstation 3 (the xbox and PS3 would be nice if they could too but wouldnt break my heart as they are my roommate's and not mine so I rarely use them.)

2. the internet
no other options
and NAS's which say they can work as itunes libs don't work

Workbench and Multiple Platforms

We are developing web applications in a mixed platform environment, ie some developers use Windows 2000 or XP and some use Linux (RedHat). Standard scm tools like CVS make this easy for most artifacts, but we seem to have a constant problem with Toplink's Workbench (10g, 9.0.4).
It seems that the configuration files for Workbench have to have hard coded paths for the build and source directories. So a Windows user puts in c:\projects\training\src\toplink and the linux user has to change it to ~/projects/training/src/toplink and so on, back and forth to keep Workbench working.
Do others have this problem? If not, what is your solution?

Hi Brad,
The 10g(9.0.4) Mapping Workbench supports relative class paths so you may use the project on multiple platforms. See the context sensitive help by pressing F1 on the Project General tab for information on specifying relative class paths.
You can also specify a relative path for your deployment XML save location on the Project Options tab.

Cause conflicts with multiples platforms?

Have been using LR for a while and enjoy most of it but then thought I might
check out with other programs have to offer like ACD See. Think I have tried
others in the past, but they didn't grab me. Anyhow, this question isn't
about what is better, but rather, will or could there be issues by having
multiple photo management programs on my machine and have them linking to
the same images and such? I mean, the databases of the programs will stand
on their own and therefore I thought it shouldn't, but then maybe it would

No...no "conflicts" but I would question the value of doing so...as it stands, right now only Camera Raw and Bridge CS3 can really "work together" for anything other than just metadata. Meaning only Lightroom & Camera Raw 4 (and I suppose CR 3.7 in CS2) can show images with the correct renderings based on image settings.
So adding other DAMs into the mix will not really help, it may only confuse the issues.
I would argue also that having multiple DAMs will, in effect mean you may not master any of them. I mean although Lightroom is supposed to be easy to learn, it still take time & effort it to really be good at it. And other programs will also require time & effort to become good at using them. Splitting your time for anything other than testings would be, I think, a waste...

Lightroom Multiple Watermark with first export

Hi, I am using Lightroom to stamp my photos. I am a nightlife photographer and since now I 've been using other software to stamp my pics but I want to turn in lightroom. The problem I have is that it does not support (as far as I have searched and found) multiple watermarks. I need one watermark for my logo and one for the club I photoshoot. So we have two png images. What I did for the first time is I exported the images with my logo and then load them again and export them with the club's logo. I don't really like the proccess. How can I export in just one time both logos?

Open an image to watermark. We must have this open before we start recording an action or else it will keep opening this image and watermarking it over and over again.
In Photoshop go to Windows >> Actions
At the bottom of the Actions Palette you will see a little folder icon, click on it and create a new folder to hold you action in.
Once you have a folder to hold your action we need to hit the Create New Action button (next to the new folder Icon we just used.)
Give our new action a name and set a function key (if required.)
If the record button is not already depressed which it should be by default, hit it now to start recording our action. (located near the folder icon again but this time to the left)
Now that our action is recording go to File >> Place
When the dialog box comes up navigate to your previously created watermark file.
Hit the Place button
Position the watermark as you would normally have it (default is dead center) and hit enter.
Go to File >> Save as,navigate to where you want your watermarked images to finish up and hit save. DO NOT CHANGE THE FILE NAME if you do when you play the batch it will name all the files it saves the same over-writing each other.
Close the image we just watermarked.
when a save dialog comes up do not save the image.
On the Actions Palette hit stop recording.
Our Action is now recorded.
To process an entire folder of images we go to File >> Automate >> Batch
Select the folder in which your images are currently
Select the folder you wish to save the watermarked copies too.
Hit OK
Photoshop is now watermarking all the Images in the selected folder for you.

Using The Same Audio Files On Multiple Platforms

When I import new audio into logic - often it will say that is creating wave forms for the display.
Q: I notice that the audio files on disk do not show an altered modified date - so where are these wave form displays being saved - on the audio file or inside the logic song?
Q: I am interested in possibly going back and forth between logic and Pro tools LE - and at different times using the same audio files for both platforms. Assuming I am not doing any destructive editing - is it OK to use the same set of files for both platforms - or do I need to make duplicates (I'd rather not)? Also, how does this wave form display get dealt with by going back and forth between the two platforms?

Hmmm... I've wondererd about this, too, and as best I can tell, Logic DOES modify the original files.
I just imported some stereo interleaved AIF files into a project (with "copy external audio files to project folder" disabled), and I couldn't see any evidence of waveform creation--a disk search by date revealed nothing looking like waveform overviews, and there were no modifications to the AIF file dates.
So... the next time I imported some AIF files, I checked the file sizes before the import...
Sure enough, the files got bigger by about 100K after being imported into a Logic session, even though the file's timestamps were not changed.
Looks like maybe Logic does write the waveforms into the files themselves ?
On a related note, the manual suggests that it's possible to change the "copy external audio files to project folder" setting after creating a project, but I haven't found this anywhere other than File->New... anyone know ?

AutoInstallation from a disk, on multiple platforms?

I know that Java is cross-platform, and can run on almost any OS. But what about deployment?
If I packaged a program in a jar file, put the jar file in an installer, both for Linux & Windows (deb & exe), and put them on a disk, how can I set up the disk so that it will run the appropriate installer when it is inserted into the disk drive? I've seen autorun files on some disks, but I'm not sure how to use them or how to make it cross platform.
Can someone please help?

replying to self after a bit of research, it seems that autorun is not supported on all Linux installations, but apparently on those on which it is, you can [include an executable "autorun" script|http://linux.die.net/man/1/autorun] that launches your installer, probably something like
#!/bin/sh
./myInstallerVerify on a CD-Rewritable that both OSes auto-install, before burning to an actual CD.

Skype History Across Across Multiple Platforms

I need to get acess to my entire Skype history from both of my platforms: Computer and iPhone. My iPhone one just displays my iPhone-based calls, and my computer displays the computer ones.
I need to be able to print this call log for government purposes (visa). I have used software to extract call logs from my computer, but I can't locate one for my iPhone or one that combines the two.
Can anyone please help me? Thank you.

The only centralized Call history for all telephone calls made by the same Skype name from any computer/device is located in your Account page. Please click the "Account" link at the top of this page and logon using the Skype name in question. Then click on "View Call History, you can also download a .csv formatted file and call history from your account page is only stored for a 6 month period. Call History there is diplayed month by month and the call history .csv files are month by month as well.
Note, there is no centralized history for Skype To Skype calls, or inbound calls, that data is stored only locally on the computer/device where those types of calls were made or received.

Managed servers on multiple platforms?

I was wondering if all of my managed servers in a Weblogic domain have to be running on the same platform. For example, can I mix Solaris/SPARC and Linux/x86 boxes within the same domain such that some remote managed servers in the domain are different? In the WL documentation, it mentions that all WLS instances in a domain must be running the same version of WLS itself, but it doesn't mention the underlying OS or hardware. I'm assuming that since everything is running in a JDK, it's OK to do, especially since I'm using a generic WLS installer for UNIX platforms.
Install WebLogic Server on the machines on which you want to host Managed Servers for the WebLogic domain.
Note:
All WebLogic Server instances within a WebLogic domain must run the same version of the WebLogic Server software.

It should work fine.
This kind of mixes are generally not recommended in order to avoid conflicts due to packages specific for each OS, but should not be the case of the generic installer.
The generic installer is truly generic to all OS platforms. Note that you must comply with the published supported platforms (OS, chip set, etc).
Sinice Java is platform independent, there is no distinction between a Java application running on Linux and the same application running on Windows. A Java application is the same and can be run on any OS bit version of any flavor without a single change.
At its root, WebLogic Server is a Java application, nothing more, nothing less. So, think of WebLogic Server as a Java application that is run like any other Java application by invoking the main method. In WebLogic Server the main method is in the weblogic.Server class. So, to start WebLogic Server we use the java command, the same as for any other Java application:
java <MEM_ARGS> -cp <CLASSPATH> <JAVA_OPTIONS> weblogic.Server
As mentioned in your post, make sure the JVM is the same (JVM mixtures in a cluster are not supported).

I have an interesting dilemma: I have inserted some code into a program that uses some some of the com.apple.eawt packages. I can run the compiled bytecode on any system, including Mac OS X, Ubuntu, and Windows, but I can only do the compiling from the Mac OS X platform because of the use of the com.apple.eawt packages. Is there some way I can make the source compilable on any platform, like a force option? I had thought of using reflection to use the packages, but that seems like a lot of code for such a simple task, plus I don't know if that will really work at all.
Are there any suggestions?

Are there any suggestions?Via reflection if you ONLY used string references to ALL the classes/methods then it will compile. So a line like the following will compile on any system.
Class X = Class.forName("com.apple.eawt.X");
In terms of compiling however, note that presumably unit tests exist and you would have the same problem with those as with the code.
Depending on specifics of the application it might easier to do the following.
1. Create a proxy class(es)
2. Wrap the apple code as a separate deliverable - with its public API being the proxy.
3. Build that deliverable and deliver it into the main project as a jar.
The result of that is that the main deliverable will always build on any platform. The Apple deliverable would build only on Apple.

Marking emails as replied on multiple platforms

when i reply an email on my iPhone i can't see the "replied arrow" next to that email message on my mac os and vice versa.
