Lightroom 4  removing objects in photo

I want to get Lightroom 4 and I think I read somewhere that instead of having to erase and clone unwanted objects in a photo, one could click on object and remove it and the computer would fill in the background to what it should have been. Ex: photo of a church with light pole in front. click on pole, it disappears and what is behind the pole is pictured without the pole in front. I saw this a few months ago when a friend sent me the info. Cost of software then was about $199. Now I cannot find that feature listed and also the price is much cheaper so not sure which software. Anyone know which product has this feature?

I believe you are looking for "content aware fill" or "content aware remove" in Photoshop CS6.  Look at the promo video for PS CS6.  Lightroom's spot healing tool works pretty much like the healing brush tool in PS.

  • Removing objects from photo

I am trialling photosup elements before deciding to buy it or not.  Not sure if there is a difference in the trial version compared to the purchased version. I am trying to remove an unwanted object from a picture by highlighting the unwanted object,  then I go to edit and then fill. However there is no option for "content aware" under the fill option as shown in the tutorial.  As a result, if I choose any of the options under the fill tab,  it will only remove the object and leave a "blank spot" on the picture.  Have I missed some steps here please?  Thank you.

Thank you all for your advice. It certainly was amazing what you were able to do with your suggestions.  As mentioned,  I am trialling photoshop elements (before deciding it is a product that I can use with ease) and was facinated by the ease of use on the tutorials, particularly the content aware move function. If I am not mistaken, it seems to suggest it is a matter of highlighting the object to be deleted / moved, then choose the content aware move function, and photoshop will do all the 'patching' and merging of surroundings.  So basically a click of a button.  Unfortunately I couldn't find that function on the trial version of the product.  So was wondering if the function is actually available on the trial version so I can see if I can use it before resorting to other alternatives.  Thank you.

  • Lightroom will not import my photos.   It did up to a week ago.   I have changed cards and cameras (both worked two weeks ago).   I can import the photos to Picasa and iPhoto

Lightroom will not import my photos.   It did up to a week ago.   I have changed cards and cameras (both worked two weeks ago).   I can import the photos to Picasa and iPhoto.   I get the following error message:
Some import operations were not performed.
The following files were not imported because they could not be read  [followed by a list of the files I wanted to import]
Thumbnails show up.  LR just will not import them.
Any idea what is going wrong?

If the Import button is not clickable, that means that Lightroom thinks you have no new photos to import (one possible reason is that they are duplicates)
So, you need to figure out why Lightroom thinks that. The way I would do this is to search your Library module for at least one of the photos, by file name. To do this, you would follow all 4 of these steps in sequence:
Click on All Photographs in the Catalog Panel on the left of the Library Module
Turn off all Filters (Ctrl-L or Cmd-L once or twice)
Expand all stacks: Photo->Stacking->Expand All Stacks
Search for one or more of the photos using the Filter Bar (press backslash), search by File Name

  • In Lightroom mobile how can move photos within the collection????

In Lightroom mobile how can move photos within the collection????

What you can do is to move (or copy) a photo form one collection to another. This can be triggered via the top right app menu item from grid view. Same menu is available when you open up an image for editing. Hope that helps. -Guido

  • Hi,   My photo stream used to work fine.  But after removing all the photos to separate folders in my computer, my new photos are no longer streaming to my PC.  They appear in the photo stream on my other devices - iPhone5 and iPad Mini.  It's just my PC

    Hi,
My photo stream used to work fine.  But after removing all the photos to separate folders in my computer, my new photos are no longer streaming to my PC.  They appear in the photo stream on my other devices - iPhone5 and iPad Mini.  It's just my PC that's missing the photos.
When I open the iCloud control panel, I cannot turn on the photos.  That option is ghosted.  I'm running on Windows 7 with iCloud 3.0.  Any ideas on how I can fix this?  All help is appreciated!  Thanks!

  • How to remove thousands of photos from ipad

    Hi all,
When I was at vacation I imported about 7560 photos from my digital camera into the new iPad.
At home I imported all the photos from the ipad to Aperure and clicked "delete all the photos from the iPad".
Aperture really removed some photos (about 2 GBs from 45 GBs) and now shows me an "empty" iPad.
But the most of photos still are on the iPad. Aperture doesn't see any photos more, even after restarting.
Okay, then I tried iPhoto. iPhoto sees photos, but doesn't want to remove photos.
Then I tried my windows PC - it could remove a couple of photos but got an error after deleting multiple photos at once.
Then I tried Image Capture on my Mac - it removes about ten photos and then loses the ipad. Loses means it doesn't see the iPad under devices, even after restarting the app. After rejecting and reconnecting the iPad I can remove other 8 or 10 photos with Image Capture and it loses the iPad again.
Now, after about 2 hours I still have 6271 photos on the iPad.
Can some one help me to delete all the photos at once from my new iPad?

Yes. Find the LR catalog file by looking in Edit/Catalog Settings/General. Close LR and navigate to that spot. The catalog file is the one that ends in .lrcat - move it to wherever you want. Next to the .lrcat file is a subfolder called Previews.lrdata. You can move that over as well, but if you don't LR will generate new previews. Double-click on the .lrcat file in its new home and LR will open with that catalog. Set Preferences to When Starting Up Use Most Recent Catalog.

  • Help with removing person in photo

I'm fairly new to photoshop and am familiar with removing objects/content aware. In the link im trying to remove the person with the hat on and fix whats left over to make it look like water is there.Mostly though having trouble removing the lower part of the guy between his arms and keeping the water and plants there.
    http://i.imgur.com/Ol4NQ2J.jpg
So my question would be what is the cleanest/pro way of removing the person and keeping it looking like the water and weeds are still there?thanks for the help.

thank you Cadogan, I am glad you like the results. Here are a few images that might help:
this was the plane I made inside vanishing point, the idea is to ignore everything else and just try to focus at the river perspective. If your plane turns red or yellow you have an invalid plane that vanishing point can't really understand. play around with settings until you get a blue plane. once the plane looks good, hit ok to exit vanishing point.
create a new layer and go back to vanishing point, clone stamp some water from the top right area, until you get something like this:
as you can see I am overlapping his arms a lot, and cleaning up unwanted parts later by loading up the mask. play around with Levels to lighten up the water a bit and it should blend pretty well.
finally, add a new layer to clone stamp the weeds, these were the general areas I used:
please post again if you have any question, have fun!

  • Outline of objects in photos are grainy when viewed at 16.67% but not at 25%.  Messes up editing

    Hello,
I have recently been having this problem where the outlines of objects in photos is grainy at certain magnifications.  It only started recently and I haven't made any setting changes in Photoshop nor have I changed my monitor or video card settings.  My last photos were shot with an ISO of 400.  I always shoot in Raw and the photos aren't grainy in the Raw viewer.  The graininess isn't only visible at 16.67% but also at 33.33%.  But everything is fine at 25% and everything higher than 33.33%.  The problem is just that 16.67% is the best size to use while editing the picture.  The picture on the left is the same file just viewed at 16.67% while the right is viewed at 25%.
Any help would be very appreciated.

  • In iPhoto, I want to copy certain photos in an event and then have the copies in another event WITHOUT removing the original photos from their original event; how to do that?

in iPhoto, I want to copy certain photos in an event and then have the copies in another event WITHOUT removing the original photos from their original event; how to do that?

The only way to do that is to export the image to a new file and then re-import it.
It's not really the intended way of working as it uses twice the disk space and is inefficient.
Use Albums instead. A Photo can be in any number of albums and use no extra disk space as it just simply references the image in the Library. Albums can be sorted any way you want - including manaually - and can have image from anywhere in the Library just by drag and drop.

  • HT204022 How do you remove all the photos in photostream in one go i.e reset?

I have a new Mac and iphone and when I turn on photostream it downloads thousands of pics that have been taken since photostream started. I don't want it to do that, I just want to reset the photo stream and start with zero pics as its being downloading on the new iMac now for 2 days and its still goinig.
There used to be a reset option on the icloud site but it has vanished, so how do I do it? Surely I I'm not expected to wait days for each device to download all pics before I can delete them?

From where do you want to remove the PS photos? A mobile device or iPhoto on your Mac?  If you have them all in iPhoto on your Mac (up to 1000 allowed) go to the PS in iPhoto, select all of the photos there and Control (right)-click on them.  Select Delete from Photo Stream in the contextual menu that appears:
If they aren't in iPhoto let them download (as that wouldl be faster than downloading to a mobile device and easier to delete from.  The follow the workflow above.  in the meantime turn of Photo Stream on your mobile devices until the photos have been deleted:

  • Lightroom CC will not export photos

I installed Lr CC the night of April 21 (first day it was available) and have tried exporting several different photos, one at a time, without success; the pop-up message says "Some export operations were not performed.  The file could not be written."  Shutting down the program -- even restarting the computer -- had no effect.  The photos are from different years, and thus are in different folders on the external drive where they reside.  My computer is an iMac with Retina 5K display, Intel Quad-Core i5 processor, 16 GB RAM, and AMD Radeon R9 M290X graphics card with 2 GB of dedicated memory.  Exported photos go to a separate folder within the year-month folder the RAW image is in; capacity is not an issue, as the 2 TB drive is less than half full (same drive and export arrangements as used with Lr 5 for about six months, without once encountering this export problem).

This is an update, not a reply.  I set up a new external hard drive and put today's photos on it, then imported them into Lightroom CC.  With the photos on the new drive, I can export photos -- so the problem may be with the old external drive.
