Lightroom 5 0 Bug XCF Files Prevent Import

XCF files in a directory sometimes prevent Lr from importing other images in that directory.

Works fine for me.
Same processor as you, half the memory, single old and slow 128G SSD used only for LR cache, all other files on single normal hard drive.
First time into develop module takes 5 seconds, thereafter more or less instant.
The only operation which is slow is rendering full size previews (or images in Develop Module), which takes about 3 seconds for 36M pixel D800 raw images.  Rendiering 1:1 views is about 5-6 seconds.  I wish this were faster, but it's very usable.
I came back from a wedding 2-day shoot with around 1,700 D800 raws.  I reviewed them all and got a preview selection of over 100 done the next morning.  And 350 finished images in another day.
What really speeds my workflow is being able to sift, sort and compare a large number of images very quickly.  I couldn't work at the same speed in Bridge, which is slower to render developed previews, and doesn't have a seemlessly-integrated editor.

  • Lightroom 5 can't copy files when importing PC catalog

Attempting to merge my old PC catalog into my newer Mac one.
I tidied up both catalogs, then consolidated the PC catalog and media onto an external USB 3 drive (NTFS) - Mac catalog is on an external Firewire drive (Mac OS Extended Journaled). Both separate catalogs were extensively tested and were working, with all media accessible.
I imported as catalog from the Mac catalog, and previews looked fine, and imported catalog looks fine EXCEPT almost none of the media has copied across (about 4500 photos worth!) some did, though, no idea why, or why not, in either case. Got an error message which said Lightroom couldn't copy some files.
I did so much manual cleanup, which took days, to make this painless, I'm pretty gutted such a simple thing didn't work.
Any idea what might be wrong and how to clean up this mess without having to go through it all manually AGAIN, please?

OK, I'll try to give you the info you need. Firstly, I'm not the one doing the copying, I'm asking Lightroom to copy files to a new location while performing an 'import from catalog'. Also, I've just undone the previous import and I was incorrect, Lightroom copied none of the files across at all. This is all being done on the Mac, just so you know.
Exact steps were as follows -
1 - File -> Import from another Catalog (choose PC Catalog on NTFS HDD).
2 - Appropriate files (all of them in fact) selected.
3 - Settings were- File Handling - copy to: (folder on the Mac external HDD). Replace: Nothing (only new files copied). With preview.
2 - Exact error message is "Problem importing from catalog 'Lightroom was unable to copy the files for these images to the folder you selected'." The previews appear in the catalog but with the missing file icons.
I've removed the previous import and tried again, with the same result. In between the tries, I checked read/write permissions on both drives, which have full access, and also tried manually copying one of the folders across between the same two HDDs using the Finder (i.e. outside Lightroom), which worked perfectly, so I can't agree it's not a Lightroom issue at the moment.

  • Lightroom 3 Corrupting .CR2 RAW files on import

I have never used RAW files before yesterday.  About to shoot a wedding in a couple days so desperately need a fix or at least some advice for a workaround.
    Here's my hardware list:
    Canon 7D
SanDisk Ultra II 2 & 4 GB CF cards
    Windows 7 64x
Internal card reader, not some flimsy USB thing
    Lightroom 3
    Problem:
After importing .CR2 RAW files using Lightroom 3, not Bridge, I found that some (not all) of the images appear to be corrupted.  On the camera they look fine.
For a short moment, in Lightroom, they look fine, but then after clicking the thumbnail they instantly develop strange corruptions, like pink/yellow/opaque static.
This is not one of my photos, but the corrupted image looks just like this: http://thekuipers.org/images/IMG_2279.jpg
Used some advice and downloaded Fast Picture Viewer, which allows me to view the .CR2s in the folder I imported to, and MOST of them look fine now.  Reimported to LR and now only like 8 of 200 images are corrupted.  They still export to .jpg as corrupted.
I had formatted my CF cards immediately after importing, only to find the corruptions after.  Using Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery to try to reimport manually the residual data from CF cards.  Will know if that works soon.

From previous posts on this forum there are several things that can cause this type of corruption on import; faulty, CF cards, card reader, cable, and RAM.
On my system it turned out to be faulty ram. Since changing my ram I have not experienced any further problems.

  • Lightroom 4.1 - Shows 14 files to import/sync, then says none found

    I have Lightroom 4.1 for Win7x64.
When I right-click on the folder where I keep all my photos, and choose synchronize, it says I have 14 images to import.
I click import, it does it's thing, then says 'no photos or videos were found to import' and that's it.
Tried closing/reopening and trying again, selecting/deselecting the options in the sync menu and still says 14 to import, then nothing found.
... is there a way to 'flush' the database or something?
Currently downloading the 4.2 update... on a side note... what kind of "update" is 750MB???? seriously... most programs are smaller than that!

A LR for Windows update contains an installer for both the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions of LR, but you usually only install one of those.
I would guess that they are duplicates that have a different name from the initial instance of them, and the quick check during Synchronize doesn’t figure that out, but the more sophisticated check during Import does.
One way to determine this would be to show the Import dialog and enable the Allow Duplicates and see if the 14 are available for import, then.  I’m not saying you should import them, just determine if they are duplicates.  If they are duplicates then you can determine if you want to delete them.

  • LR5 and xmp files on import

    Hi,
I have the trial of LR5 and I trid now to geotag my pictures. To do so, I convert the .gpx file to xmp with geosetter. The XMP are created but when I import them into LR, the GPS position is not imported. But If I embed the GPS info into the raw files (cr2) the position is imported but I'd like to keep the raw file untouched so this is why I use the XMP.
When I try to "update metadata" it's not working.
So how can I make lightroom to read the xmp files on import ????
    Thanks.

    Strange

  • Lightroom 4 missing RAW files on import

After upgrading from lightroom 3 I'm having a problem importing my raw files. Most of the time Lightoom 4 will only recognize some of my .CR2 files and only the JPGS of the rest of them. The weird thing is that it's not my card reader. When I access the card through finder I can see all of my files. It's only in Lightroom that I can't access all the files.
It's very random about which CR2s will and will not be recognized at any give time. Sometimes it's one day only of a shoot, sometimes it's completely random photos spread across different days. I always shoot RAW+JPEG on a Canon 60D. As of now I just keep plugging and unplugging my card until all the RAWs show up for an import but this is annoying and time consuming. Anybody know what's going on?

Suggest you try the 4.1RC (available here: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/lightroom4-1.html) as there were some bugs in this area which were fixed in the RC.

If you are having the same problem, i.e. a disk permission problem, open your favorite search engine and search on, "change disk permissions", and I think you'll find plenty of information on how to fix the problem. This is a Lightroom forum. Your problem is with your operating system. There is no sense in rewriting instructions that are already available if you do a simple search.

I just got a new Mac Mini, and now when I try to import photos into Lightroom, iPhoto ties to load them first, then Lightroom can't find the files.  Big problem.  What to do?

    Simple:
File -> Export to get your photos out of the iPhoto Library. In the Export dialogue you can set the kind to Original and you'll get back exactly what you put in.
Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.
Once exported, you can then trash the iPhoto Library - just drag it from the Pictures Folder to the trash and empty it.
After that, if you're entirely neurotic about it, just put the iPhoto app in the trash and empty it.

  • What happens to Raw files when importing Raw+JPG from camera to Lightroom Mobile on iPad? Only JPGs are showing up.

Hey I am Brian, and I was wondering how Lightroom mobile works again as in when importing photos directly into iPad using the camera connection kit.? This is for IPad 2.  I . Like when importing raw files. now I just did a photo shoot. and I just uploaded them into lightroom 5 on desktop. the raw files are being pushed as smart priviews acroos ipad and iphone. its kinda cool seeing cr2 file showing up on lightroom mobile. when its coming from lightroom 5. but what about coming from camera to ipad.?
I thought you can import a Raw plus jpeg into ipad and it shows up as a jpeg plus raw file. well its not doing that. shows up as just jpeg.
cant wait for next update  of lighroom mobile.

With this version of LR Mobile we not support the direct RAW import.

  • I can not import in Lightroom 4.4 any RAW-file from my D600. Lightroom gives no picture.

I can not import in Lightroom 4.4 any RAW-file from my D600.  Lightroom gives no picture.

    How long have you waited?
When I connect my D600 via USB and import in Lr it takes a long time before the image thumbnails are displayed in the Import Dialog.
I know that using a card reader would probably be much faster (you gotta try that!).
In the meantime I just do something else for 5-7 min (read e-mail, get a cup of coffee) and thereafter the thumbnails are displayed and import is straightforward.
And I do have a powerful and fast system.
So, somehow Lr and the D600 are slow to begin "talking" to each other.

  • Lightroom 5 is auto-developing our canon 7d raw files but not the canon 5d mark 3 files upon import.

Lightroom 5 is auto-developing raw files upon import on the canon 7d but not on the canon 5d mark3. I would prefer to do individual file developing in the develop module.

Go into preferences, select the Presets tab. Hit "Reset all Default Develop Settings". You probably by accident set a default Develop for the 7D. Also check that you don't have a preset selected in the import dialog.

  • Lightroom 3 Raw Files not Importing

I have a Nikon d3200 and I am using Lightroom 3. My raw files are not importing. Do I need some sort of plugin? Im not sure where to find the plugin on Adobes site...ugh!!! #frustrated

You would need the FREE Adobe DNG Converter (version 7.1 or later) to convert your D3200 raw photos to DNG.  The DNGs will import into Lightroom.

  • Lightroom 5 not loading .xmp sidecar files during import

I have a folder of RAW images that also contain .xmp sidecar files that I am trying to import into Lightroom. The images import with no issues but it appears that Lightroom is ignoring the sidecar files since none of the metadata they contain are appearing in the catalog. I am seeing the same behavior when I take the same RAW/.xmp files and first run them through the DNG converter and then import the DNGs into Lightroom (again, no metadata). I have tried to update the catalog by both writing to file as well as reading from file but nothing I do will get the metadata read into the catalog. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks...

    Rob Cole wrote:
Whoops - I just realized you had also tried force-reading metadata after import.
If that doesn't work, then either the xmp sidecar files were not named properly, or something in them Lr not liking (presumably)
If you can make a copy available (of original photo file + xmp sidecar, e.g. zipped) I can have a look.
PS - Lr will only read DNG sidecar if newer than DNG (and hence embedded xmp).

Thanks Rob. New to these forums so still trying to feel my way through it. I tried both using the context menu as well as the metadata menu option for a selected image with no success. I have tried this with an image I had previously converted to a .DNG and the metadata does not load into the catalog for those either. However, I can't determine that the .DNG version had the metadata loaded or not. I don't know enough about the file structure or have the tools to peer inside to verify. The .zip file is 12MB in size so I am unable to insert the RAW file but I can't figure out how to attach to .xmp file either. Will continue to research to see how I can do that...
