Lightroom 5.2 DSLR video edit - spot removal

Video editing is not currently supported in the Develop module.
Thanks to Julieanne Kost's Adobe TV module "Working with DSLR video", I know there is a workaround.
I know that I can use a develop module preset to apply an edit from a captured frame of video.
Most, but not all develop module settings are availalbe via this technique.
One setting that is not is "spot edit heal".
I have a small dust spot that appears in every frame of video in a blue water background shot underwater with my housed Nikon D7100.
Is there a way to remove it with Lightroom?

Well if you have a recent version of PS there are certainly a lot of possibilities to work with video. On Mrs. Kost's fabulous site you will find a lot of information about working with video in PS.
I know this is a LR forum but may I give a quick hint? Open your clip in PS and change your workspace to "Motion". Select the video layer and choose Layer - Smart Objects - Convert to Smart Object,
Now you can use  Filter - Camera Raw filter. This gives you about the same possibilities as Lightroom's adjustments, including Spot removal. Since you turned your video layer into a Smart object, the adjustment will be applied to every frame.

  • Considering dumping my iMac for a PC used for DSLR video editing on Premiere CS6. Help!

So I edit mostly 1080p DSLR footage taken from my canon T3i camera. I purchased a 2011 (the latest model) iMac a little over a year ago, upgraded the RAM to 12GB and it has worked reasonably well. I purchased the base model for $1200 which has a quad core i5 processor, 512mb of video ram, and a measly 500gb hard drive. The past couple of days I have come to the realization that I only use Adobe Programs for graphically intensive work (premiere, after effects, etc). I originally bought my iMac for final cut, but FCPX SUCKS and I switched to Premiere CS6 which works like a dream. Anyways, I'm a senior in high school and do lots of video editing (going to major in video production in college). I'm likely going to differ college for a year and continue my video production business (pretty informal) as well as video production internships at a couple companies (so don't suggest that I get a laptop for portability, not an issue). I just shot an entire wedding with 2 DSLR's and the footage takes up over 20% of my hard drive which is unacceptable. This is very troublesome for me and has been clogging up my computer considerably. I have realized it would make a lot of sense to sell my iMac and purchase a PC that's not only faster, but has much more space. I was ideally looking to sell my iMac for $1000, and from that get a better and faster PC setup for my video editing. $200 would be allocated for a 24" 1080p LED 5ms Asus monitor (from newegg) which would leave $800 remaining for the PC. Ideally it'd be nice to have a little cash left over. Some things that sound appealing to me are: an intel i7 quad core proccessor at least 3.0+ Ghz,  16 GB of ram (maybe 8 to start), 1 GB of video RAM (here is where I'm stuck, my Imac had a Radeon 512mb video card in it, but I've heard premiere runs especially well with nVidia CUDA cards? Don't really know too much about this stuff.) I have no idea what type of card to get, and if I would even see a performance upgrade from my iMac. For storage I'd like at least 2TB of space, should I get two seperate 1 TB drives? One for boot and software and another for video files? Anyways, I assume I can benefit from selling my 2011 i5 iMac to get a faster PC equivalent at a lower price since I mainly edit videos (which is pretty graphically intense) from an HD DSLR camera. I've noticed premiere rendering times on my mac are starting to get pretty slow these days. Ideally it'd be nice to buy a desktop (already assembled) maybe from HP for around $600 (not including the monitor). I'm not completely against building a PC from parts (since I know a friend who can do it for me) I just need help figuring out WHAT exactly it is that I need and would benefit from.

  • Lightroom 5.5 spot removal tool not working

    Hi all.
I've just updated to lightroom 5.5 and discovered my spot removal tool isnt working as before. The opacity is set to 100 and the brush size is set in the middle. It won't work for any of my images event after restarting lightroom. Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks
    Neil

    Hi Hal
The cursor doesn't change to the circle. There is just no response at all. It appears to be an issue with all the images in one folder and doesn't seem to affect other folders.
Also I have noticed when in library mode, it has 1:1 size selected and when I click in to develop, it resets back to Fit and won't let me select the 1:1 size unless I click 3:1 then back to 1:1. Sounds odd I know but I will keep trying. I cant help but wonder if its something I have selected by mistake somewhere.
    Thanks
    Neil

  • Spot removal tool has auto-placement  :)

I just noticed this little nicety: one need not click-and-drag to tell the spot removal tool what to use as a source. Just double-click, and the program picks a likely nearby source spot for you.

This is not really a new feature because the spot removal tool was able to do this in version 1.0. But what is new is this.
If you use the Heal mode and define a set of points to repair using a single click each time, when you sync the develop spot removal settings across other images, Lightroom will carry out an auto spot removal (like the spot healing brush in Photoshop) and use its own internal logic to decide where to sample from in each of the synced images.
So to summarise, in Lightroom 1.0, LR synced the exact relationship between the source and sample spot circles. In Lightroom 1.1, LR recalculates the sample circle point for each individual image. Of course, this does not guarantee that Lightroom will successfully auto remove every blemish when you sync a bunch of images, but it can sure make synchronised spotting more effective. Just remember that this will only apply to spot circles created using a single-click.

  • Lightroom 4 - Spot removal and adjustment brush issues

In Lightroom 4, my spot removal and adjustment brush tools will not work on all areas of photos (in particular faces and the center of photos). The cursor seems to show the tool only on the outside portions of the photo.  Any suggestions?

I have seen this a couple time and a restart of Lr has always fixed it.  It seems like there is some kine of dialog box waiting for input "hidden" behind Lr as it its not there if you minimize Lr.  This has been reported many times for a LONG time so it is probably one of the Lr bugs that is not getting fixed.  To be fair to Adobe, if someone could reproduce this problem it might get fixed but it seems to be pretty obscure.  BTW, I think Ihave seen reports of it in Lr5 also so hopefully it will get fixed in Lr 6

It is the GPU that is important.  All the CPU's will be fast enough.  If you can affords it, the 15" with the NVIDIA GPU is the best.

  • Spot Removal Tool in Lightroom 5

My spot removal tool in Lightroom 5 does not appear to be working correctly. When using the tool, it does not show the second circle indicating where it is sampling from and, therefore, I cannot manually move to sample from another place. Do I need to reset something?

No, it is just a potrait. Trying to get rid of a blemish. It seems to get rid of it but the second circle doesn't appear and so I can't change if I don't like what it replaces it with.

  • Lightroom 5 Spot Removal Tool Lags and is not usable (Temp Workaround?)

Lightroom 5 Spot Removal Tool Lags and is not usable.  The Spot Removal Tool really is pretty essential to the usability and workflow of Lightroom 5.  Checking the other tools alongside the Spot Removal Tool, it appears that the Red Eye Correction Tool is also affected.  Might it have something to do with the Process Version?  I noticed when working with some older image files (using the 2010 Process Version), the Spot Removal Tool worked as previously experienced. Current images that have been "upgraded" to the New Process Version (2012) are now incapable of utilizing the Spot Removal Tool due to its very laggy and sporadic response.  I've never experienced an issue like this with Lightroom (LR user since LR2).  Mac OSX 10.7.5, 3.4GHz i7, 8GB 1333MHz DDR3
I've also noticed that reprocessing an image can revert the Spot Removal Tool to "useful" again (reverting from 2012 to 2010, then back to 2012).  Doesn't always work and doesn't always "stick", as closing and reopenling LR usually reinitiates the laggy Spot Removal Tool.
I haven't seen anyone mention the Process Version as a potential culprit, nor have I seen any reliable workarounds.  Reprocessing an image (or set of images) at least works for me for a while, though it would sure be nice to not have continue reprocessing images every time I open/use Lightroom 5.
LR5 is great and is all I need for the majority of my images.  Unfortunately for me, though, that usability also necessitates the Spot Removal Tool's unhindered functionality.

For some reason, it's clear that not everyone is experiencing such a massive slowdown / bottleneck when it comes to the Spot Removal Tool.  If all users experienced this issue to this degree, they would have been clamoring for Adobe to address and rectify it immediately.
With all due respect, Sean, to make a suggestion like that proves you do not experience / have not experienced this issue / don't understand the severity to which this issue can affect workflow; simply "turning off noise reduction and lens correction" is definitely not a fix.  If 16GB of RAM doesn't fix the issue, do you really think simply turning off noise reduction will?  And as Bert Nase points out, to do that to large volumes of images increases workflow in a program designed to streamline workflow for large volumes of images.
1- One option is to change the process version in your first photo (2003/2010), then copy-paste that develop setting to the rest of your images.  This will get all of your images to the point in your workflow where you can use the Spot Removal Tool on each image.  Once spot removal is done, reconvert each image back to the current process version (2012) then re-accomplish the spots that reconverting lost.
2- Configuring presets is one work-around option, though you will need at least couple of them tailored to your workflow.
3- Changing your import settings to an earlier Process Version is an option, then accomplishing Spot Removal on each photo, then updating the Process Version on one and copy/paste to the rest, then re-accomplishing for each photo the spots lost in the conversion and continuing your workflow from there.
Readers of this thread can use the link above, but it can introduce its own issues, too.  As noted, switching back-and-forth between Process Versions can delete some of your already-corrected spots and you'll have to re-correct them.  Worse, a window prompt asking to create a virtual copy or proof will occasionally begin popping up.. closing the window, clicking "cancel", or choosing any other option in that pop-up window won't be "remembered" and the window pops back up with any further "click" on the image.  Lightroom has to be shut down and the computer restarted for the issue to reset.
Yes, it's very frustrating and time consuming to say the least.  So, unfortunately there is no fix, still only work-arounds.  Hopefully this issue will be addressed and remedied in either the coming release of 5.2 (doubtful) or the Cloud version of Photoshop + Lightroom.

  • Adobe Lightroom 5.4 - Enhanced Spot Removal Tool

Since upgrading to Lightroom 5.4 I am unable to effect the Enhanced Spot Removal Tool. Having selected the area to be corrected, the sampled area appears. I am unable to transfer the sampled area to the area to be corrected. What is it I'm missing?

First step would be to make sure you opacity slider on the Spot Tool is set sufficiently high.

  • Basic PC requirements for Premiere Pro, After Effects editing DSLR video?

I shoot primarily stills with Canon DSLR but have a number of (short) video projects... my current computer is not up to speed to handle much video editing etc. I'm in the market for a desktop and wonder what would be a good "basic" build or confirguation I could start with and grow into if I continue with more videos. I'm not by any means a Tech kinda guy... so any and all input appreciated.
Also... I'm om a tight budget... are there machines out there good to go out of the box... or is a build the way to go? Thanks

  • Lightroom 5 Spot Removal

My June purchased version of Lightroom 5 has what I think is a bug. I cannot export as DNG file either clone or heal "shaped" spot removals. It will export simple circular removals as DNG. Both types of removal can be exported as TIFF and JPG files. When I reopen spot-removed as shapes DNG files in Lightroom, even then the spot removal does not appear. Oddly, when I Import such DNG files back into Lightroom, the spot removal does appear in the thumbnail of the photo, but not in the actual file when re-imported. What gives? Is there a fix?

It doesn't even have to be an older version of Photoshop.  Remember that Photoshop CS6 can utilize camera raw 8, and by so doing would be able to read those DNG files.  But it was mentioned that they are using camera raw 7.1.  And that version isn't going to be able to read those spot removal adjustments.  If you are using Photoshop CS6 then you really need to be using camera raw 8.  Then you will be able to read all the adjustments made in your exported DNG files.

  • Lightroom 3 spot removal problem

    Hi all.
I still have lightroom 3 wich works great but a couple of weeks ago I got a problem with the spot removal tool. Short explanation, it's not the same.
I don'd know what I did but I dont have the regular spot removel tool.
WHen I shoot the spot removal tool the cursor dissapear when I get over the picture like it hides behind the image.
When I click I get a very tiny circle and when I drag it makes an arrow. WHat is up with that?
Please help because now the spot removing tool is completely useless.

Not sure what you are expecting to happen but what you describes sounds like some of the options that are available with the tool.
In the bottom left of your image, when using the Spot Removal tool, there is an option labled "Tool Overlay", from the way you describe it, it sound like it is currently set to "Auto", try changing it to "Always"
After you select the Spot Removal tool, some options appear directly below, including the Size of the spot to be removed, try moving this slider to the right.

  • The spot removal tool in Lightroom 5 has suddenly started running REALLY slowly, to the point of being unusable.  What should I do?!

My spot removal tool was working absolutely fine and then suddenly started running really slowly.  I now can't adjust easily as there's a lag of about 5 seconds between moving the mouse and the icon moving on screen. I've tried splitting my catalog (which is not actually that big - less than 3000 photos) but that doesn't work.  Help!  I really need to do some photo editing and I'm running really far behind work-wise!

This has nothing to do with catalog size. Splitting the catalog won't help.
This is a common issue with the spot removal tool, if you remove LOTS of spots in a single photo, it will begin to run slowly; the more spots you remove, the slower it will get. If you have a photo which requires huge amounts of spot removal, it would be better to do this in a "desctructive editor" like Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.
