Lightroom 5.3 stalls on opening

I have Lightroom 5.3 (64 bit) installed on my desktop and laptop. My images and catalog are saved on an external hard-drive that connects to both laptop and desktop via eSata. I just started experiencing trouble with Lightroom on my desktop - when I open the program, it stalls on the startup screen (Lightroom 5, all the designers names, etc.) and won't go any further. I am not experiencing the same problem with the laptop, LR works just fine using exactly the same images and catalog. Both computers operate on Windows 7 Professional. Any help would be appreciated - I can't find any contact details for Adobe Support.

Pierre, try removing/deleting the preference file on the desktop: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/preference-file-locations-lightroom-41.html

In Bridge I cannot find Lightroom as a program to open files. All the other programs like photoshop etc are indicated?

You would go into Preferences > File Type Associations and from the dropdown menu and choose "Browse" to get to Lightroom.
So yes you can set files that Lightroom supports to open from Bridge into Lightroom.
    But I don't think you'd want to.
Lightroom is a standalone product for a Photography workflow. Bridge is a manager for Creative suite products like Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign. Basically web and print design workflows.
Bridge is not a manager for Lr because Lr has it's own catalog system.
Lightroom is not a Creative Suite product.
Bridge does use Adobe Camera Raw to make adjustments, but move those adjusted files into Lr, you have to make a decision whose settings stay.

  • I installed Lightroom CC successfully but cannot open the program. What can I do?

    Dear colleagues,
I installed Lightroom CC successfully but cannot open the program. What can I do?
    Thanks for you help.

The situation with Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 and version earlier than it (in particular 3.0/3.0.2) is disturbing with regard to MPEG2 Activation.
Adobe document says that it no longer supports MPEG2 Activation for versions 8.0/8.0.1 and earlier and points the users of this group of products to a version later than 8.0/8.0.1, the current latest version 12.
But, I am not sure of the real answer. The doubts are cast by the findings of some who have claimed to have solved the problem using a uninstall/ccleaner/reinstall scheme when they have been met by the MPEG2 Activation issue.
But, I would ask....Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your Windows 7 64 bit computer? And, are you working with version 3.0 as the 3.0.2 Update?
Is it still possible to run your Premiere Elements 3.0/3.0.2 on the prior computer on which it was installed?
Also, does your Windows 7 64 bit come with Windows XP Mode
Install and use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7
which is essentially a virtual Windows XP Professional SP3 32 bit.
As last resort, and highly experimental, but would you have time to experiment by replacing your latest version of QuickTime with the QuickTime Alternative 1.8.1 and then determining what happens with your Premiere Elements 3.0/3.0.2  Windows 7 64 bit situation? Do not bother with the MPEG Streamclip program download, just the QuickTime Alternative 1.8.1.

What edition of LR 5? What edition of ACR does PSCS 6 contain. If they are not parallel (same edition number x in [5 or 8].x ), is LR making a tiff or psd rendition of the image?

  • Lightroom 5.4 does not open, using windows 7

lightroom 5.4 does not open, using windows 7. I downloaded the trail and it does not open. I want to buy it, but i am afraid it will not work. I do not get an error code or anything it just will not open.

Thanks but none of the options in that KB fix the problem.
The "Exit Code" was 3 rather than "0" and so it doesn't look like the patch will install.  In terms of the third option, I mentioned in my original message that I cannot "Deactivate" my other CS6 programs because that option is grayed out in those programs.  But those programs work just fine (other than Acrobat Pro X) and so I think there may be a bigger problem with all of my Adobe products.

I may have just solved my own problem. Right after posting this I googled bezel lightroom and found this: Flickr: Discussing The word 'bezel' appears in the taskbar. in Adobe Lightroom
I changed the setting in the view menu and now everything appears to be working fine. I cannot explain why it stopped working before because I hadn't made any previous changes to the view options.
Still am curious about the memory usage, though.

Yes, but if it screws up the files so they can't be used in Lightroom,
just how useful is it really?
It only corrupts the files if you use an old version that doesn't know
anything about the nefs from more recent cameras. If you use the latest
version that has been updated for your camera, there is no problem. Some
people are apparently still using the original Nikon Transfer that is years
old. Transfer2 is now part of Nikon ViewNX2, which is updated for each
release of a new Nikon camera.

  • Acrobat 8.3.1 stalls on opening

I have several new installs of Acrobat Standard 8.3.1 and they stall when opening the application.  Within a few minutes, Windows come in and says Acrobat is not responding and the application is closed.  These are on Windows 7 Enterprise x64 SP1.
I've repaired Acrobat via Add/Remove and reinstalled Acrobat and neither has worked.
This page:  http://www/adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3750  describes what happens, but the patch is for Windows Vista.  Three of the machines this is happening on are on the other side of the planet, so I'm hesitant to just try it without asking.  One of the machines is closer, but I won't have access to it until next week. Another machine built within the same time-frame does not exhibit this behavior.

I am probably going to disappoint you, but to my knowledge no one has reported a successful install of AA8 on Win 7, 64-bit. In any case, you should be logged in as administrator for the install and have anti-virus disabled. I assume you did the latter two. You will also probably have to run AA8 in a 32-bit compatibility mode. There is a chance that the latest update will work, but I would not be surprised if none of them work. On a 32-bit machine, folks have reported success with AA8 in Win7. I have even installed AA5 on Win7, 32-bit -- but AcroTray does not work in that case. This does likely not help, but at least it gives you some small ideas.

  • Lightroom 5.5 doesn't open after update using CC - how to proceed?

After update, that appeared to proceed normally, and did not report any errors in CC, I'm unable to open Lightroom (both using the desktop icon, and double clicking on the .exe file). Absolutely nothing appears to happen when I click. Same situation after reboot (Win 7).

    Hi RomanoDien…!
Thank you very much for your advice concerning LR CC. It works! All troubles are over. Thank you.
I understand that this issue is a common issue for many of us. You know that all of us users would be very sorry to loose the ability to track all the photographs on several HD’s, if something goes wrong.
    I appreciate your help.

  • Lightroom 4 will no longer open

my lightroom 4 will no longer open

If you want just the originals, then you can go into the Aperture library (right click on it and do "show package contents"). Inside is a directory called "Masters" and you can find the original files in a bunch of subfolders.
But... you'll lose all adjustments, keywords, and other information, and just have the files as they were imported originally from the cameras.
Easiest is probably to buy Aperture and update everything, and then migrate to the Photos application down the road if that's what you want. Aperture 3.0 came out in 2010 (five years ago!) so it's not like you've upgraded in a while

Other than exiting in Library mode, I don't think so.

  • I purchased lightroom 5.  do I open this box or go with the black friday sale for all

I purchased lightroom 5.  do I open this box or go with the black friday sale for all?  what happens next year after spending $9.99 a month without a disc for lightroom? does the monthly fee just continue?

does the monthly fee just continue?
Yes, with subscription products, if you want to keep using them, you keep paying the monthly fee.
All updates and upgrades (e.g. LR6, LR7) are included in your membership but you never get to a point where you can stop paying and own the software.
If you want to pay once and own the software then use the perpetually licensed version that you've already bought. You'll then have to pay again to upgrade to future versions such as LR6.

  • Lightroom 1.1 stalls (and apparent stalls)

I've been trying to track down a couple of reported stalls with Lightroom 1.1 and I thought I would update people with what I've found.
    * Metadata Browser updates. Lightroom updates the metadata browser based on having a list of photos for which the metadata has changed and for which we need to go rework their place in the hierarchy. This list is preseved when you quit the app and the work will pick up again when you relaunch. So long as work is going on here, we're blocking updates to the metadata browser panel so that it doesn't churn. The downside is that this means the only feedback that anything is going on is a pegged CPU meter. Rolling over the metadata browser panel seems to make it more likely to update, but not necessarily and it may not pick up new items this way. Furthermore, this is a first-in-first-out queue so if you have a lot of photos ahead of the ones you just changed, we have to get through all of those before the changes will show up.
I had been thinking that the queue processing itself might be stalling, but I can't seem to make that happen today. What I can get to happen is that I make a set of changes and then have to wait until the CPU finishes working on them before anything shows up. That matches with the analysis given above.
If anyone has a case where the machine goes idle and we still don't get the updates, please say so -- even better if you've got reliable steps to make it happen.
    * Import, preview building/loading, etc stalls. I've seen reports and even encountered cases myself where import or preview building or even just loading for the loupe will stall for several seconds or sometimes stall completely and require quitting and relaunching. I've also seen one case where memory usage spiked way up in conjunction with the stall. What that all points to is something blocking us from writing data to the preview cache. If we get enough data queued up for writing, we will stop other work lest we completely run out of memory. All of the symptoms would suggest this is happening, but I haven't found a way to reproduce it today to confirm. So again, a set of steps that reliably recreates the problem would help.

    Hi,
I am not a Mac Tech but have been using Mac's for 20 years, so I know my way around.
I am running a Mac G5 Dual with 2 gigs of RAM and 2-500 gig of hard drives. I have LR 1.1 on my main drive along with all my catalogs.
I posted a long post in this forum about my problem (can't find it to link here) but the gist of it is that I have been having terrible problems with LR 1.1 slowing down and stalling to the point of it being so slow it is virtually non funtional. No crashes or problems importing or exporting, that all seems to work fine. Just slowing to a stall but never locking up. This problem has been going on and growing for a few weeks now.
I have been on the phone with LR Support 3 times, each time trying different settings. I have divided my catalogs in very small separate units. I have optimized and changed all the previews to the least settings and nothing worked.
All the views of pictures (navagator, main and filmstrip) pixelate after loading. The menus slow to the point of not working. Nothing will load and when it does it is unreadable.
I am not having any problems with imports or exports.. just slow to the point of not working. It never froze up and crashed. I optimized, updated all metadata, etc.. everything I could think of. I trashed all catalogs and reloaded them and let it update for hours.. all to no avail. I let the program run by itself and walked away for hours with a catalog of 1700 photos to let it update, nothing worked.
In my 3 calls to Adobe we have tried everything but nothing seemed to work. And then I noticed that even after quitting LR my computer was very sluggish in opening even a simple mail program or Safari.. it seemed to take forever.
If I was in LR and went to "edit in CS3" it worked fine with no slowdown in CS3 but when I edited in CS3 and came back.. I was back to the same problem.
After reading items in this forum I unchecked the "auto write to XMP files" and my LR now runs like a champ. I went in and increased my previews to 2048 and Max preview. I imported all my files to one catalog with about 6000 files, mostly all RAW and everything is again working perfectly.. and fast, even at the max preview settings. I can hop from one folder in my catalog to another with instant access and 1:1 views loading without hesitation.
I am not savy enough to check CPU speeds or any of the real tech stuff.. all I know is that is what was slowing down my program to the point of being unusable. I will leave all the tech stuff to the engineers and real tech guys.
I now make changes and save "to or from" my metadata files and XMP files manually and LR works fast and without a problem. I just have to remember to save my files. I tried going back in and checking the "auto" function and it was right back to slow so I will use my method until the problem gets worked out because the program is unusable any other way. I am not exaggerating my slowdown, as even after the "loading/working" screen disappeared the picture would be so pixelated it was unreadable and it wouldn't clean up without changing the view or picking a different file in the filmstrip and even the filmstrip was all pixels.
So.. there you have my situation. Just thought let you know.
    Thanks !!
