Lightroom 5.4 and 5.5 crash when trying to go to Preferences
Lightroom 5.4 crashes when attempting to go to the Preferences. Today I updated to 5.5 but have the same problem. As soon as I click on Edit > Preferences the program stops working.
Windows 7/ 64; 32GB RAM
Any solution?
Thanks
Ronald
It sounds like your Preferences file is corrupt. You can try trashing the old one so that LR is forced to re-create it:

This report also contains technical information about the state of the application when it crashed.
Here is the link to the full crash report:

I have already tried reinstalling the printers/drivers. I also tried running Firefox in safe mode, and the issue still persisted.
I installed Firefox 29.0, and the app does not crash upon trying to print.
I have been unable to find any helpful information on this issue. Please advise as to how this can be resolved. Thank you.I filed a bug for this crash as it has been reported on Mac machines and all of the comments are either printing a webpage or printing a print button.
If I may ask are you using File > Print or is there also a print icon?
Another question for investigation is do you have print_printer?
In order to change your Firefox Configuration please do the following steps :
# In the [[Location bar autocomplete|Location bar]], type '''about:config''' and press '''Enter'''. The about:config "''This might void your warranty!''" warning page may appear.
# Click '''I'll be careful, I promise!''' to continue to the about:config page.
#right click new > string and enter name : print_printer and for value : enter the name of your printer with without the quotes, then OK.
Please post back with the results. Thank you! -
Lightroom 2.5 and 2.6 crash when I open Photoshop CS2
We are running XP Pro and on one machine everytime we open Photoshop CS2 with LR2.5 or 2.6 running, Lightrrom will crash - everytime.
I have updated video drivers, updated Lightroom, cleaned the registry, optimized the catalog, defragged everything, I have over 200 gig free space on all drives, 4 gig ram, and reseated all cards in the PC.
All I have to do is open Photoshop and if Lightroon is running, it will crash within a minute or two. Any help?Look in windows reliability History for the Photoshop Crash and double click on it to see what is crashing within Photoshop.

Hi there
This Mac is quite new and was originally a migration (using Migration Assistant) from an older Mac.
Illustrator and InDesign in CS5 were both crashing often and most of the time it's when placing an image (in either application) – it doesn't crash each time I try to place an image, but 90% of the crashes are when placing an image.
We tried lots of things, like cleaning out the fonts, clearing font caches etc. After several months of that, we decided to wipe the Mac clean and start from scratch. It has been reformatted with a clean install of the OS and only minimal additional software added. Although quite a few fonts have been reinstalled, they all validate in Font Book.
One other thing of note is that the Adobe Updater fails to complete an update and so we have had to update each application manually from the Adobe website.
I would be so grateful someone could help shed some light on what is going on. Here's an EtreCheck report. Can also provide crash reports from the Console if useful.
Thanks!

Adobe Illustrator and InDesign CS5 crash when trying to place images.
Hi there

It has been reformatted with a clean install of the OS and only minimal additional software added. Although quite a few fonts have been reinstalled, they all validate in Font Book. I've also done a full Memtest which passed all the test.
One other thing of note is that the Adobe Updater fails to complete an update and so we have had to update each application manually from the Adobe website.
I would be so grateful someone could help shed some light on what is going on. Here's an EtreCheck report – couldn't post it on here for some reason, but I have it on a post in Apple Community Forums, here... https://discussions.apple.com/message/26970885?ac_cid=op123456. Can also provide crash reports from the Console if useful.
Thanks in advance. Any ideas gratefully received – I've run out!
ps. I have 10 colleagues with same OS version and CS5 (some even have the exact same model of Mac). They don't have this issue. Thanks, I will do.

Flash Builde 4 crashes when trying to start
on my work mahine we use FB 4. We have windows 7 and no one has experiened this issue - I have even tried re-installing - Flash builder 4 (and catalyst) just crash when trying to start I get the FlashBuilder.exe has stopped working everytime I try and start it up.
Ideas? This is actually Photoshop Elements forum. try posting it on Photoshop forum.
In case you have some scanner/printer etc installed in the machine it might be causing issue. Try launching with none of the devices attached and anti virus disabled.

Lightroom 4 crashes when trying to open the slideshow module. I spent over three hours with both Adobe and Apple tech support and we know it is a permission issue but have not been able to get it solved. It started with the last upgrade to 10.8
Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
{ sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
The first step should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select
▹ Restart
from the menu bar. -
I have been using Lightroom 4.4 successfully for over 2 years. Just tried to import some new photos after a vacation and the application crashes when I click "import" every time. Tried restarting computer. Version says it is up to date.
How do I get formal support for this from Adobe? Thanks for the response. The application was crashing. A Windows message was displayed showing "Lightroom.exe has stopped working", "Windows can check online for a solution the problem.". Etc.
I just launched Lightroom to check the exact message for this reply - and the Import worked. It had failed dozens of times before. -
i was working on a project in iMovie (10.0.1) and iMovie just crashed. when i reopened it the project i was working on disappeared. in my list of projects it still says i have 3 projects but its only showing me 2. is there any way i can recover my project?? PLEASE HELP!!!
iMovie on your Mac has nothing to do with iCloud storage. Download and use Find Any File to search for your iMovie project. FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't, like invisible folders, packages and system folders. If there a file with your file name on it anywhere on the hard drive FAF will find it.
Do you have Time Machine enabled backing up to an external HD? This situation is exactly what TM is good at. It makes hourly backups so you can go back to find and restore the missing file. All HDs crash at some time or another and having a good backup strategy is the only protection against that. -
Is ILife 11 the current version today? (May 2014). ILife 11 on Amazon appears to be 3+ yrs old?
When searching for ILife 11 on the Apple Store, I am directed to a separate purchase of Iphoto version 9.
Somewhat confusing, Apple is always so clear with these things.
The goal is to upgrade my Iphoto 8.2.1 to Iphoto 11.
I have a Macbook Pro, Maverick 10.9.2 and Iphoto is crashing when exporting photos.
I understand ILife is the way to fix it.
Thanks! The current version of iPhoto is iPhoto 9.5.1., and it is the latest version of iPhoto '11.
If you are running Mavericks 10.9.2, you can buy iPhoto 9.5.1 from the AppStore - it is the currently sold version.
The iLife bundle is called iLife '11, and the iPhot version in iLife '11 is iPhoto 9.x.x. - that is confusing allright
I have a Macbook Pro, Maverick 10.9.2 and Iphoto is crashing when exporting photos.
While it is certainly useful to upgrade to the current iPhoto version to be fully compatible with MacOs X 10.9.2, there may be a differnet reason for the crashes. Is there an error message with the crashes? When did these start? Did you import new photos or videos? Install other software? -
