Lightroom 5.5 won't launch

updated Lightroom and Photoshop to the latest and greatest today, June 18th. Installation of each went without any incident. Photoshop CC2014 works fine. LR 5.5 won't launch either by double clicking on desktop, from the programs folder or running as administrator. Have logged out of Creative Cloud and back in with no luck.
LR won't run on either laptop or desktop. If i try double clicking on the catalog itself, nothing happens either.
Ideas please.

***** FIXED IT *******
So it looks like if you update LR via the CC menu bar it causes this issue!
I had to downgraded to 5.4. Once I started 5.4 a window came up asking me to Update (I figured I'd give it one more go) Downloaded 5.5 from this link Adobe - Lightroom : For Macintosh : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.5
Once installed it worked great! I had the splash screen fail on two Macs and they both work great now! So stay away from the CC update windows!!

  • Lightroom 1.1 won't launch upon registration

    Hi everyone,
My name is Janyne and I was hoping someone here could help me with a problem I am running into with Lightroom 1.1 on a mac G4 osx 10.5.8. I have installed this old version of lightroom because my computer doesn't have intel and i needed the older version in order for it to work on my very old computer.
I installed Lightroom and it won't launch after the registration page. I put in all my information and serial number and it gives me a green check then i click finish and nothing happens. No highlightable options in my menu bar either.
I have tried the newer lightroom versions on trials but i decided to go with this old 1.1 to ensure that my computer was capable of running it well.
Any one have any technical support they could offer me on this ? I have some photos already in a library somewhere in my computer but i wouldn't know where to look to find it or any other lightroom files that could be getting in the way of my program launching.
    This sucks, Please help.
    Thank you,
    Janyne

You need to reinstall iPhoto as it's missing bits of itself.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

Bought the Photoshop/Lightroom CC combo.  First the installer downlaoded Lightroom 5.7, which worked, but wasn't what I bought. Then the installer downloaded Lightroom CC which crashes immediately at launch with the following error:

Logging out and in doesn't work. Uninstalling/reinstalling doesn't work. Using the Adobe clean install /CCleaner doesn't work.
Lightroom 5.7 and Photoshop run fine. Running Windows 7 SP1.

After trying almost everything with no luck I decided to just reinstall Windows and now it works. It's not an ideal solution by any means but I needed to get this to work.  Hopefully someone will figure out a less drastic fix.

  • Updated lightroom and it won't launch

when i updated lightroom from the creative cloud app the program will not launch

    I have the same issue.
I'm on a 27" iMac, with all current updates.  It opens fine on my  older MacBook Air.
I've tried rebooting, uninstalling, repair permissions, etc all to no avail.

  • Lightroom CC 2015 won't launch.

I've installed and uninstalled Lightroom CC 2015 three times. However, so far I can't get it to launch.

Can't get it to launch, either on a MacBookPro running 10.10.3. (Works fine on my MacPro with 10.10.3, been using it all afternoon.) MacBookPro has been rebooted.
I briefly get the splash screen for LR CC, but it crashes immediately. Tried to relaunch repeatedly, but same issue.
UPDATE: Got it working by signing out of CC app and signing in again. Then LR started working.
To sign out, go to the CC app preferences to find the signout button.

Have a  problem with Lightroom 5.4.  Since the program crashed yesterday it won't launch, it comes up with the message "Lightroom encountered an error when reading its preview cache and needs to quit".  "  Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem next time it launches".  Except that it doesn't, I keep getting the same message and the program closes.  Does anyone know what I  can do to repair it?  Can't back up, can't do anything.

There are dozens of threads in this forum that describe the fix

  • Lightroom 2 won't launch after install

After installing onto an XP 32-bit machine that already had Lightroom 2 Beta running, Lightroom 2 now refuses to launch. It is an upgrade version loaded from disc but has killed off all the other versions, too.
I have un-installed and re-installed repeatedly - rebooting every time - to no avail. Even a new install of Lightroom 1 won't launch - which makes me wonder if there is a rogue file from the Beta version that needs a serious talking to.
The computer shows the application as correctly installed but it simply won't launch.
    What to do?

    Thanks Lee
Version 2 and Beta preference files no longer exist after uninstalling and V1.0 still refuses to launch even after removing its preferences.
Could there be something in the registry that needs a kick?

  • My lightroom just updated to CC from lightroom 5 and now it won't launch - ideas? I have tried reinstalling, restarting. No go.

I have tried re-installing and restarting my computer - and am in lineup for customer care - but it won't launch at all.

first, sign out and then back in to your cc app and retry updating, http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/sign-in-out-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html
if that fails, close your cc app and then reopen and retry updating.
if that fails, restart your computer, sign out and then back in and update.
    if that fails,
Remove the OPM.db file and relogin into the Creative Cloud desktop application using the Adobe ID tied to your subscription.
Mac OS: You can locate the OPM.db file in the \User\<user name>\Library\Application Support\Adobe\OOBE folder. To access the hidden user Library folder, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion.
Windows: You can locate the OPM.db file in the \Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE folder.  To view the hidden AppData folder, see Show hidden files, folders, filename extensions | Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7.

  • Please help lightroom 5 won't launch with my mac 10.6.8 what

ANY  Suggestions  It won't launch it say's I need 10.7 however, my other programs are working fine with 10.6.8

Thank you.  It would have been lovely if they let us know (Important Notice that the New LR5 is compatible only with  MAC LION 10.7 and newer  Mac versions of operating systems and older, not previous Mac operating systems versions) on the main page before purchasing LR5. I've never had a LR product that didn't work with the old operating system, and I've owned all of them.  I think I just trusted Adobe would continue on with the same process .  So basically, we'd have to upgrade our operating system and risk the change of now having a situation with all of our current programs that work perfectly with LR5.
Is it possible that Adobe could make sure that they inform trusting customers like us,  similar to when trying to market their new products campaigns, they tell us how fabulous the upcoming product are in a variety of ways.... luring us in...   You know most of us are Artists.
Just make sure you make it known other than looking at the tech spec page... say like on the page where the shopping cart option is?   Epson's printer wouldn't calibrate with the Adobe PS4 a few years ago.  It took us months to figure out that, it had nothing to do with our calibration process. Finally....after speaking to Epson, they walked us through varies steps etc... hundreds of dollars later, we were able to get a good print, it turns out the Adobe 4 software was not compatible at that time with the new Epson software.   So here we go again...
Be good to us Adobe...this was a bit out of your norm.  Thanks

  • Lightroom 4.4 suddenly won't launch

been using this program for years.  suddenly it won't launch from ANY start location
    windows 7 service pack 1
    lightoom 4
    photoshop CC

So I've had no answers to this problem. I've tried deleting the.plist file - this resulted in a promising couple of screens that confirmed my licence numbers etc. but still the application won't open.  I'm beyond frustrated and wonder now is there any actual customer service at Adobe I can contact for assistance.

  • Adobe CC won't launch, Photoshop freezes immediately after launch, help!

Hello, I would appreciate any suggestions on how to solve this issue. It started with Photoshop CC freezing, as in spinning color wheels of death immediately after launch. I have tried launching with a file, without a file, from Lightroom, independently, nothing works, but spinning wheel until I force quit.
So I tried to update, thinking it wpould help. Adobe CC won't launch at all, no error message, no force quit, just nothing happens. I tried uninstalling both, but unistall just hangs, bouncing in the dock for all eternity until I force quit. The Adobe Application Manager will not launch, and also hangs until a force quit.
The machine is a MacPro OSX 10.7.5 with 3.2 GHz Quad-Core 8GB with no other issues. I have done no updates, no new programs, apps, fonts or plugins in weeks, and the Adobe CC stuff has been working until two days ago. No other issues with the machine I have noticed, and Lightroom and PS CS6 are both working as usual. Restarts have no effect.
I have attempted to start PS CC using command-shift-option thinking the preferences might be causing an issue, but got the same hanging result. Renaming the OOBE file has not worked. Help!

Have you had any luck with this? I've been experiencing the same since Creative Cloud started... happens with all creative cloud apps. I removed the creative cloud desktop app as that was the most troublesome and would often hang everything after waking from sleep. Helped a little but waking from sleep still creates the issue and I have to restart the computer. If I do get an app working and I go to update through the help menu, that app hangs. I've read in other discussions that you need to change the user (which is ******** and very time consuming) but like an idiot I did that and... surprise, suprise, same problem. Never seen adobe come back on this one.

  • 4.3 won't launch from lrcat files

I always launch LR by double-clicking the catalog files for the images that I want to work in.... I have many catalogs so launching from the one I need is the simplest way.  Installed 4.3 today, and now, double-clicking the catalog files does nothing... LR won't launch, nothing happens.  anyone else seeing this?? any help from Adobe??

Okay, that answered that question for me. But something else just doesn't make sense. I just tried it again, double clicked on the catalog file, and Lightroom opened just as expected. All I did was download the 4.3 update and install it like I normally do. So I wonder why it would fail to do a registry entry on your computer but not mine. I'm not challenging you, or saying that you are wrong. It just doesn't make sense. It almost seems like if there is any anomaly with Lightroom or with the computer that Lightroom is automatically the thing that gets blamed. The program has been so erratic, baggy, inconsistent, slow, and who knows what else that it seems to have gotten some people terribly gun shy. I just wish Adobe could almost start over if necessary to make things right. I like Lightroom a lot. Maybe I'm just going to have to stop reading the forums because every time I come on here I get scared about another problem. I hope I don't run into the same thing you're having. But I wish Adobe looked like they were really on top of things.

  • Photoshop CS6 won't launch and when it does it's really slow...help?

    Hi,
So my copy of Photoshop CS6 sometimes won't launch and when it does manage to launch fully, it's really slow. I mean ridiculously slow. The only times when I can get it to run even remotely quick is if I shut down my computer, and then restart it and then start up Photoshop CS6 as the first program. Even then it slows down after a while. (And I only have a firefox browser open usually, never more than a couple of tabs at once, so it's not a bandwidth issue)
    Here are my comp specs:
    Samsung
    Processor:
    AMD A6-3420M APU with
Radeon (Tm) HD graphics 1.50 ghz
    Installed Memory (RAM) - 4.00 (3.48 usable)
64 Bit operating System running on Windows 7 home premium, service pack 1
I also did just recently install the new update Adobe had for Photoshop, so that's up to date.
It's getting really frustrating! I have another program I'm using in the meantime (Paint tool Sai), but I'd really like to use Photoshop CS6.....
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Make sure you updated the drivers from AMD's website, not Microsoft.
Make sure you are running the 64 bit version of Photoshop, not 32 bit.
Disable all third party plugins, and try disabling system utilities (we've seen font managers, antivirus, disk backup software, etc. cause slowdowns due to bugs in those utilities).

  • Mail won't launch nor its settings save/ allow changes after 2.0

Anyone else have this ? Mail just won't launch ; opens to the main scroll screen, which stays blank, with the top and bottom bars showing – the bottom bar showing the refresh and write buttons – and then quits. Also, I cannot delete my MobileMe or GMail account, nor edit them.
Though with the MM account, if I try to delete it, it disables all of the push functions except mail. Things that I've been trying to do, like change whether the Trash folder autodeletes mail or not and the name of the account, don't save at all. The Trash delete frequency change stays in place as long as I'm in the Mail settings ; the name change doesn't hold at all.
In the second setting 'pane' in Settings – "Nouvelles Données" in French, so I guess "New Data" ? – down in Advanced, there are two MobileMe Push accounts listed. The first one saying it syncs calendars and contacts, and the second one mail... Yet I only have one MM account set up, or so says the uneditable Mail settings.
Nor can I (re)add my MM and GMail accounts. Trying to add a Yahoo account I never put on the also failed.
    I've restarted my touch too.
Sounds like one of those things that when on a Mac, deleting a plist or fixing permissions would be suggested... I can't find a similar Settings-related problem anywhere on the internet either.
    Reïnstall?

  • CS3 Installer Won't Launch

    OSX 10.5.5
Intel Quad Core Tower, 8GB Ram
    Currently installed: CS3.3 Master Collection
I am trying to reinstall Acrobat 8 from my Master Collection 3 disc, and Setup won't launch. I've also tried Utilities:Add or Remove Adobe Creative Suite 3 Master Collection, and it won't launch either.
I've tried the standard solutions: fix file permissions, install from admin account and new user account, uninstalled CS4 Beta applications. Nothing has helped.
Adobe technical support has been no help. I've been on the phone with them for two hours this morning.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

BRIAN, HERE'S WHAT WORKED FOR ME, BUT I WAS USING WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL, NOT A MAC SYSTEM. STILL MAYBE IT MAY BE OF HELP.
I had problems uninstalling and reinstalling my Adobe Master Collection CS3. The problem being that the installer would run and then disappear without initiating the uninstall/installation process.
Here are the simple combination of steps which worked for me.
1/ removing Adobe Master Collection CS3 by running add/remove programs
2/ running the Adobe CS3 clean script. I'm almost 100% certain I chose option 1 when running the script http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs3clean.html
3/ out of desperation and realising I had nothing to loose because I had an image of the fairly newly configured hard drive I was using, I deleted the Adobe "Installers" Folder located inside the Adobe folder at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe
Steps 1 and 2 above did not solve my problem.
Step 3 did solve my problem. However, I do not know if step 1 and/or 2 were required for step 3 to work.
    GOOD LUCK :-)
PS. Please let users of this site know if this solution has worked for you ...and if so, pass the solution on elsewhere too.
