Lightroom 5.6 / CR 8.6 not recognizing my Canon 16-35mm f4 IS USM lens

I have Lightroom 5.6, Camera Raw 8.6.
I'm using a Canon 5D Mark 3.   I had a Canon EF 16-35 f2.8 USM for years.  Under Lens Corrections / Profile I would use the Auto Setup and LR would detect the lens automatically.
I switched to the EF 16-35 f4 IS USM recently, even with LR 5.6 and Camera Raw 8.6 the Auto Setup doesn't recognize the new lens.    I manually select Canon, then within the model drop down list - the EF 16-35 f4 IS USM does indeed show up.
I checked the EXIF data - it's listed as "EF16-35 f/4L IS USM" (notice the lack of space between the EF and 16.   However the profile is listed as "Canon 16-35 mm f/4 IS USM" (notice the space between 16-35 and mm).   Looking at the drop down list, this appears to be the ONLY lens listed with a space between the focal length and mm.
Not sure what the source of the mismatch is here.   I'm trying to figure out how to find the Lens ID in the EXIF info.
Ideas, suggestions?

If LR supports the lens natively then manually selecting the lens and doing a Save New Lens Profile Defaults shouldn't be necessary as Auto should work.  Rikk, since your LR screenshot says Custom instead of Auto I expect that you're seeing the same thing as the OP and may have already set your lens profile defaults, manually or having to select a lens profile manually seems less odd that it does to the OP.
In any case, I think there are two problems, or perhaps two different manifestations of the same problem:
1)  Looking at the EXIFTool LensInfo tag list the Lens ID is apparently 507 for this lens, but the Lens ID in the lens profile file from Adobe is 251 which corresponds to a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens:
http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/TagNames/Canon.html#LensType
It does not seem to be enough to change the 251 to 507 in a copy of the LCP file and put that file in the User's lens profile area.  I did this and Auto still doesn't work, although the 507 copy of the profile is found if I choose Custom and pick Canon.  Without the LensID = 507 lens profile existing, Custom / Canon chooses the 16-35 f/2.8 lens.
2)  If we select the supposedly correct lens profile manually, then there is distinct pincushion distortion in the door edge, and this distortion is actually slightly worse in the corrected image than in the original uncorrected image.  Here is the corrected image:
This makes me wonder if the correct lens distortion data is even in the lens profile file attributed to the 16-35 f/4 lens or its for some other lens.  An obvious suspect is the other lens profile with the LensID = 251, the 70-200 f/2.8 II lens, but if I choose that profile it does apply different corrections so the profile is not the same for that, either.
In any case, the proper profile is not being selected automatically and the distortion corrections seem off if the profile is selected manually.

  • Elements 9 not recognizing my Canon ZR65

I have a Canon ZR65 camcorder that his connected to my computer by firewire.  If I click on the camcorder in My Computer (Windows XP) the camcorder is recognized and an image is displayed.  When I go into Elements 9 and select Get Media > DV Camcorder, the only device listed is Microsoft DV Camera and VCR.  I do not see my Canon ZR65 nor is an image displayed in the window.  I'm not sure why my camcorder is not being recognized or where within Elements I can point to my camcorder.  Any suggestions?

I have never had any issues with Premiere (Pro, or Elements) seeing my Canon ZR60.
A couple of things to think about:
Though Windows seems to be seeing your camera (you get the Bing-Bong, when you turn it on, right?), if you have Win7-64, you might want to check out this ARTICLE.
When you launch the Capture module in PrE, is the camera connected, turned on, and in playback mode? Though I have never had an issue with Capture, I have a slightly different model. Some users have found that the order that they do things can be important, depending on the camera. For some, connecting the camera, turning it on, and setting the playback mode, BEFORE either launching Premiere, and then launching the Capture module works best. For others, they have found that the program and Capture module need to be launched, before the connected camera is turned on, and placed into playback mode. The order can affect how things work.

  • Aperture / iPhoto not recognizing CR2 Canon Raw anymore

    hello all,
ive been using lightroom to manage my photos which are a CR2 Canon Raw from my Canon 5D Mark II. I recently decided to try out aperture and see if id like it better since i do use iPhoto to manage all of my simple little snapshots from my point n shoot. iPhoto seemed to be working with my raw format images but i recently updated my cameras firmware to 1.0.7 from 1.0.5 and iPhoto will no longer recognize the format. I think i had the camera raw 2.4 update but i went on the apple site and got 2.5 and reinstalled it just in case and my camera is in the listed ones supported but now i get the same error in iPhoto and in Aperture but lightroom can still import them. Is anyone else experiencing this or have a possible solution to it?
    Thanks.

ive discovered the problem. my camera can shoot raw in 3 different resolutions and iphoto / aperture will only accept the original highest quality raw (which is 21mp) so there must be some slight difference in the other size formats. this needs to be fixed apple since i shoot a lot of random photos in a raw format at a smaller resolution. it works in lightroom.

  • Photoshop Elements 12 not recognizing my Canon 60D on an iMac

    Hello,
My Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer will not recognize my Canon 60D device on my iMac.  I will only sporadically recognize and download photos from my cameras (a Canon 60D, a Canon Rebel xti, and a Canon Elph).  I NEVER had this problem with my PC.  I know it is not the AV cord since the iMac photo download program recognizes them just fine when it is plugged in, so it has to be the softward.  Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Upgrading from Lightroom 1 to 4.1 - catalog not recognized

I am trying to upgrade gtom LR 1.0 version to 4.1 version and my catlog is not being recognized for upgrade. I launch LR, select my NAME.IRCAT catlog and get this message: " The Ligghtroom catalog named "Lightroom Catalog" cannot be opneded because it is not valid. Would you like to select a different catalog?"
I wonder if need to upgrade to some lower version befor moving to 4.1. I have not upgraded in many years, actually I never upgraded since I first purchased LR. I finally purchased a new PC and upgraded my OS, and consequently decided to upgrade all my most important SW.
Thanks to anyone who has insight to help me with my issue.

It might be worth trying to upgrade from 1.0 to 1.4.1 first, and THEN try the upgrade to LR4. You can download it from here:

  • IMovie not recognizing camera (Canon ZR 700)

    Hello there,
Just a few days ago we got our first Mac - an iMac 24". We had a great deal of problems with it from the beginning - going through the step-by-step set-up the computer froze, and then we had to install the operating system discs.
Now I am having nothing a lot of trouble with iMovie, when trying to transfer video from our camera. I was successful at getting iMovie to recognize the camera (over firewire) this evening and transfer some footage, but then the program crashed, over and over again.
I would get it started and transferring, and it would just crash.
I also installed Final Cut Express after iMovie crashed and it doesn't recognize the camera either.
Now, after unplugging the cables, the power, restarting the computer (and almost resorting to praying...) neither iMovie or Final Cut are recognizing it.
Does anyone have any suggestions whatsoever? We are definitely newbies with Macs but are eager to learn so we can take advantage of all of the great things we can do with it.
    Thank you in advance.
    Tamara and Konrad

Hi Lennart, thank you for the link...I actually worked through that list yesterday but nothing seemed to work.
I let it overnight and this morning, iMovie recognizes it and I was able to transfer about 5 minutes of footage before it started acting up and then it just stopped.
Final Cut didn't see the camera.
    And on we go!

  • Macbook Pro not recognizing printer Canon iP4300

    Hello
I have been having problems with my Canon iP4300 Pinter. Once upon a time it worked, now it doesn't. I only use it to print direct to DVD's. I have another printer attached which is an all-in-one Brother for my main printing, faxing etc. (unfortunately it doesn't print direct to DVD tho). I have tried reinstalling the drivers but now mt MB Pro won't recognize the printer at all. If I plug it in to my USB hub I get a message stating "Over Current Usage" or something like that. I try plugging it in to my USB port on the MB Pro left or right side and still nothing. When I go thru Printer Settings it checks for new drivers and still nothing.
    What am I doing wrong?
Can I connect printer with a different cable? Firewire?
    Please help!!

    Hi.
Try a different USB cable. I had troubles with USB printer cables a couple of times, giving me the weirdest problems.
If that doesn't work, try uninstalling the IP4300 driver: move the /Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter folder to the Trash and empty it, then download and install the latest IP4300 driver from the Canon download page.
Plug the printer directly to the Macbook Pro, or get a powered USB Hub.
    Good Luck.

  • Trying to upload raw cr2 files and Lightroom says "file is not recognized"

Backstory: I photographed a VERY important commercial shoot today and I went to upload the photos to Lightroom. The first 30 images uploaded just fine, but the rest won't. Lightroom says the file is not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom (401). Everything is updated in my computer... Lightroom, Photoshop ect. Photoshop also says that the file cannot be read. I can't open them in iPhoto or preview either. BUT I can see the thumbnail when I click the camera card reader on the desktop. I am uploading from a card reader as well. I shot with this card yesterday and everything was fine. I NEVER delete photos off my camera, and I always format it. If it is corrupted, how do you I find that out, and is there anyway to get my photos back?
Is there anything I can do to fix this? I am panicking. Help, please.
    Thank you in advance

The two raw files you've uploaded to dropbox are corrupted so Lightroom and Photoshop are giving you the correct message.  At least with these two, the embedded JPG preview is there but the raw data is not correct so cannot be rendered.  Here is the error that Canon's own software gives when the files are attempted to be edited:
You should reattempt to copy the images from the memory cards to your computer using a card reader and an operating-system function (Explorer or Finder) to do it rather than LR or a cable connected to the camera, then see if things work any better.  If you already used a card reader, then try a different one and see if the situation improves.
If you cannot get a better set of images by retransferring them, then we can work through how to extract the embedded JPG previews en masse.

  • I need help! when I am importing my NEF files from my D3300 camera into lightroom 5 and try to use the "copy as DNG" button I always get an error message saying that "saying the file is not recognized by the raw format support"

I need help! when I am importing my NEF Raw files from my D3300 camera into lightroom 5 and try to use the "copy as DNG" button I always get an error message saying that "saying the file is not recognized by the raw format support". The whole purpose of that button is so that the file can be recognized... How can I make the "copy as DNG" button work as it is supposed too?? Thank you

Thank you for responding. So I essentially will never be able to use that button in lightroom 5? do I need to get LR 6? Will there ever be an update for LR 5 that will enable me to use it?
Does DNG Converter work within LR or do I have to upload pictures to my computer and then make a second copy in DNG format. and then go into LR and use them?
    Thank you @dj_paige

  • My lightroom 4 will not import my files from my compact flash card . It has been working for years with out fail but now there is no import previews and it says the files are not recognized by raw format support in LR

I have lightroom 4 I've had it for years and it has imported my raw files from my CF card without issue . Now when I plug in my CF card to import new files it says import operations not performed and there are no image previews . When I continue by hitting "import" I get a pop up window that states "the files are not recognized by raw format support in Light Room"

Don't feel too bad.  If the D4S has as many menus and custom functions as my Canon 5D Mark iii its easy to get messed up.
If you downloaded from the link I gave you it will be Lr 5.4.   The link was just to show you when the D4S was supported.  The newest version is 5.7.1 and can be downloaded here.  Don't know your OS so you will have to pick Windows or Mac.   Product updates
On my Mac I just run the downloaded installer program (its a full version and not an small update) and it installs the new version and erases the old version.  If you are on Windows you will have to get help from a windows person.

  • Just purchased Nikon D610. tried to import 3 images and got this message: The files are not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom. How do I fix this frustrating problem. Have been using Lightroom for years also Nikon products without any prior

How do I import images. Have a message that says: The files are not recognized by the raw format suppot in Lightroom. Am using a Mac version 10.9.4. the import is from a new Nikon D610. Am using LR 4.4 Please help Adobe is useless as a support.

Each camera must be supported explicity and your LR version is years older than your camera.
According to Adobe's Camera-support page, you need at least LR 5.3 to work with your D610 NEFs in LR:
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
If you don't want to upgrade to LR 5, or can't due to your OS being too old, then it might work to use the latest DNG Converter and create DNGs from your NEFs, which should open in LR 4.x.  You can find the DNG Converter here:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates

  • Im running lightroom 4 and just purchased the Sony A7 and using its sd card. when I   tried to load the photos, I got a message "the files are not recognized by the raw format support in lightroom"

Tried loading my raw files shot w my new Sony a7 and its sd card into lightroom4. Got a message: "The files are not recognized by the raw format in lightroom"
Does Lightroom 4 not work with the Sony A7?
    Thanks,

Lightroom 4 cannot read the RAW photos from a Sony A7
You would have to download and install the FREE Adobe DNG Converter version 8.5 and then convert your RAW to DNG, and then import the DNGs into Lightroom 4
You could also purchase Lightroom 5.5, which will have the capability to read the RAWs directly.

  • Lightroom 4.4 not recognizing RAW files from supported cameras

I started to get problems with Lightroom not recognizing RAW files from my Fuji XE-1 and Canon 5D Mark 3 cameras but I thought it was a problem with RC. After downloading some files today in 4.4 without a problem I encountered the same error message (unable to inport listed RAW files) again. The files open fine in Bridge. Any idea what is causing this problem?

    Hi Geoff
I use a Mac with the latest version of Mountain Lion OS. The image files are being imported from the cards; in the case of the Fuji an SD card inserted in the card reader slot on the Mac and in the case of the Canon a CF flash card in a card reader attached to the Mac.
Appreciate any help you can provide.

Those of us who spend a lot of our time helping other users in this forum get mildly annoyed when another post comes up asking the same question just answered so many times.
I can see multiple posts with my eyes on the first page, and a search turns up multiple pages, so forgive me if I have a hard time believing you searched very hard (if at all).
So, I think the characterization as "dick" is unwarranted (not to mention vulgar & derogatory) - I answered your post, but did include a note of sarcasm and mild annoyance, which was my intent - I wasn't a dick, per se, but I'm glad the note of mile annoyance came through - consider practicing your search technique..

  • NIKON D800E files not recognized in lightroom 4.4

my lightroom 4 is up to date (waiting for lightroom 5 to be given to me - apparently they are having ordering issues so may take 24 hrs and i need to finish this project NOW)
why does it not recognize NIKON D800E files? is there a way around this or do i have to wait for my lightroom 5 to be delivered?
getting a message saying 'The files are not recognized by the raw format support in lightroom. (517)'
    thanks!

That makes sense, especially if the NEFs are also not readable in LR5.
To correct any corruption from using obsolete Nikon software on newer camera NEFs, you can use the utility, here:
