Lightroom 5.6 crashes on entering settings

Hi, after reinstalling my complete system (windows 8.1), I installed Lightroom 5.6 64bit (through adobe cloud).
Everytime I try to enter "settings", lightroom crashes without telling a reason... Even with an empty catalog !
I tried deleting the prefs file, I tried resintalling several times, I tried version 5.5 but this one fails to start because I don't know which licence I should enter.
Before reinstalling the complete system everything was working just fine even 5.6.
Any  ideas ?

  • Lightroom 4.2 crashes when entering print module

    Hello!
When going from any module into the Print Module, Lightroom crashes.   Another thread suggested using a new catalog without any templates.  I did and the application did not crash.  Unfortunately, Lightroom is now booting into the print module with the catalog that is causing it to crash.  From previous threads it sounds as if the issue was print templates.  How do I delete the error causing templates?
    All help is welcomed!
    Thanks!
    Paul

    Victoria,
Many thanks for the fast reply.
The first time I tried opening LR with the Ctl held down it gave me the option of selecting a catalog.  The good catalog opened then I tried the normal one.  Now both catalogs go directly to print and crash.    Ctl does not give me the option of selecting a catalog.  The Store Preset wasn't checked and I did rename the folder.
    Other avenues?
    Thanks again,
    Paul

  • My Lightroom CC always crash when it is trying to upload the preview of big images

My Lightroom CC always crash when it is trying to upload the preview of big images like photo merge images from 3 or 4 RAW images together. Thank You. Marco

When Lightroom first displays the image, it shows the JPG preview which includes your camera custom white balance settings. (This is probably also what you see in Finder)Then a few seconds later it renders the RAW image, with none of the JPG editing and with none of your camera settings applied. That is what you see in Lightroom.
There is no way to turn this off.
You then need to apply your own Lightroom edits to this RAW image to make it look pleasing.

  • Photoshop 5 quits when entering settings in print menu

I am using an iMac with Yosemite and Epson's latest print driver for my Stylus Pro 4880. Whenever I attempt to enter settings in the print menu, Photoshop crashes.

…then you're not using "Photoshop 5" but Photoshop CS5.  Photoshop is ancient, as in probably last millennium.
First of all, tell us what exact version of Ps CS5 you have.  For instance Ps CS5 version 12.1.
    then:

If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,

exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CS6", but something like CS6v.13.0.6) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
    etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster).
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too.

  • Lightroom 5 is crashing my Mac, can it be from a corrupt catalog file?

Lightroom 5 is crashing my Mac approximately 2 minutes after the application is open.  I usually freezes after the 4th or 5th click in trying to edit a photo.  I've tried different photos in different folders, and I get the same results.
To try to remedy this, I had the stand alone LR5 app., and removed it from my iMac.  I installed Creative Cloud, and downloaded LR5 again.  Opened the application (it seemed to remember all my settings, so I'm assuming it found and used the same catalog file as before) and it crashed my computer again in the same way.
IS THERE A WAY TO REPAIR THE CATALOG FILE??  I am dead in the water until I can fix this, or find a work around so I can finish the edits on this wedding!
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've taken my computer to the Genius Bar, to check the computer, and it turns out it was a failing hard drive...  Once I'm back up and running with the new drive, and restore from my back up, I will try this again.  If it still happens with current catalog file, I will try with a new catalog file.  Thank you.

  • Lightroom 5.6 crashing, not able to import or back up changes

I have been having issues with Lightroom 5.6 for few days now. I have been working from this Lightroom install for a year now problem free. The problem seems to happen when I try to import pictures. At first I thought it was my SD card but I copied the pictures to my desktop and was not able to import from the file on my desktop. It will start to download a few out of 400 and stop at 2 or 3 pictures then freeze. A message pops up that says "Lightroom encountered a problem and needs to quit" When i try to open Lightroom again I will get a message that says "The last time Lightroom ran, it shut down prematurely due to a problem reading the catalog. Lightroom must now check the catalog before proceeding." It will proceed to check integrity of the catalog then another message pops up saying it was repaired successfully. When I try to open, same stuff happens all over again.
I have not moved any files around through the external hard drive and there are no images in the catalog that are "missing." So I'm a little confused as to why Lightroom suddenly keeps crashing.
I am able to export images from the same catalog, I am able to edit pictures as I normally would, but I am unable to Back up the changes or import new files. I tried working from a different external hard drive and the same thing happens.
    Please help!!

Are you able to import 450D raw files into LR5.5via USB connection and are you on Windows 7/8?
I agree with your observations concerning SD vs CF card fragility, but they also have a limited number of insertions before failure.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB#Durability
The newer Micro-USB receptacles are designed for up to 10,000 cycles of insertion and removal between the receptacle and plug, compared to 1,500 for the standard USB and 5,000 for the Mini-USB receptacle. This is accomplished by adding a locking device and by moving the leaf-spring connector from the jack to the plug, so that the most-stressed part is on the cable side of the connection. This change was made so that the connector on the less expensive cable would bear the most wear instead of the more expensive micro-USB device.
All my Canon cameras have micro-USB connectors. With one (1) insertion and removal per day that equals 10,000 days, or about 27 years before end-of-life! SD and CF cards are also rated at ~10,000 insertion and removals, but more prone to damage from static electricity and handling due to the exposed contacts and fragility of CF card sockets.
So there's no real advantage from the camera wear perspective to using a card reader. I'd say use whatever method is easiest for your workflow, but handle memory cards with care and avoid exposing them to static discharge.  Ground yourself to something metal before removing memory cards and inserting them into the card reader, especially in cold Winter months.
BTW- I helped design one of the first semiconductor DRAM memory systems back in 1970. We killed more memory chips than I care to count before we discovered they were easily damaged by static electricity. Today's ICs have built-in protection, but you can still damage them with a big enough static ZAP!

  • Lightroom CC 2015 crashes on Start Up - Solution doesn't work

I am experiencing the reported problem where Lightroom CC 2015 crashes immediately on start up displaying the splash screen for a fraction of a second. I have tried signing out of and back in to Creative Cloud as recommended but the fault persists.  One this should not be happening with an Adobe product and secondly a better fix is required.

Support fixed the issue for me.
He looked into the Windows Event viewer and found the faulting path
    Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ig7icd64.dll
    and renamed it ig7icd64old.dll
On restarting Lightroom he turned off the use graphic enhancement option in preferences.
Not seen this solution anywhere in the forums so I asked him to post it but not sure if he will.
    Hope it helps.

Hello, I recently downloaded a trial version of Lightroom and then decided to get the monthly photoshop membership.  Now, when I launch Lightroom, my choices are to enter a serial number to continue the trial.  On the adobe website, it says "You can convert your trial to a Creative Cloud complete or single-app membership by purchasing on the Creative Cloud website. After you purchase your membership, your desktop product trial will automatically be licensed upon relaunch."  But this is not the case.  I do not want to risk losing my catalog and the work I have already done in Lightroom, so what should I do?

  • Lightroom 3 keeps crashing in "Develop"?

I have recently installed Lightroom 3 and have been copying transparances. When attempting to improve images in "Develop", Lightroom 3 regularly crashes before reappearing and then continues to crash. Can anyone please advise? I use XP and there is plenty of space on the hard drives.
    Thank you.

My limited experience tells me that this problem really should have nothing to do with Lightroom.  Last year at work I scanned literally thousands of transparencies and used Lightroom 3 to do the corrections on them.  I have also scanned lots of slides at home and have used Lightroom 3 and 4 and not experienced the crashing that you have.  The big project at work was started using Windows XP and finished using Windows 7 64 bit, and I haven't experienced problems with either one.  Something else must be contributing to the problem.  How much ram?  Tell us a little more about your system.

  • Lightroom 4.4 crashed on Windows 7 Laptop, lost catalog info, won't import half my images.

Lightroom 4.4 crashed on Windows 7 Laptop today, lost catalog info, won't import half my images.
Not only is LR messed up, it deleted my day's shooting. Can't believe that.
Now it won't import (i.e. re-import) half my files.
Imported half, but had errors importing rest.
    Corrupt catalog?
When I try to import the folders, it recognizes that they are in the catalog (I have "don't import duplicates" turned on).
After running through all the folders, it says, "Nothing to Import."
    Any help?
    Best,
    Peter

    Thanks dj_paige.
I installed a plugin, coincidence makes me thinks this might have cause a LR4.4 crash.
After rebooting my windows 7 laptop, LR had lost record of half my directories on the external drive, as seen in Library Module.
In Windows Explorer, the folders and images are still there.
I tried recovering the lost folder references in LR by doing an import on the external hard drive again.
It took about a half hour to run.
There was a report screen at the end of the process that said that LR was unable to import something like 1500 images.
I did not save the report screen. Maybe it is part of a log file somewhere to give you what it exactly said?
I do not profess to understand how catalogues work under the covers.
I only use one catalog at this point.
My guess is at this point I should de-commission the catalog (whatever it takes to do that - delete it, etc.) and just do a new, fresh import on my images.
I don't feel I lose anthing this way - I can't see where I would lose anything important. About 5-10% of the RAW images were processed and exported to jpg, just for web use for casual viewing. The jpg's are all still on the external hard drive.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Peter

  • Lightroom 2.7 Crashes

Our lightroom seems to crash when editing pictures i.e brush work, graduated filter, and spot removal. I've seen some old posts about a memory dump glitch. Does this still exist in 2.7 and if so is there something I can do so my wife is happier with this product?

Like so many of you, I have experienced lockups in Lightroom in various versions from 2.4 up to 3.0.  I am running a liquid cooled Core i7 Extreme 975 Overclocked to 4.2ghz, 12gb RAM, twin ATI 5970 video cards.
I have tried a lot of the suggested fixes with no success  Like so many of you have reported, I had no issues with 32 or 64bit applications and out of no where I start getting lockups.
(I give the following background because my pc is new)
Since December and thru April, I have had work done on my home and I have been frustrated with the amount of drywall dusk that gets into everything.  Needless to say I have given my PC several (cans) blast of compressed air to the motherboard, video cards and especially memory section and still had issues with lockups.
Frustrated I decided to load LR3 on my wife's new Alienware liquid cooled Core i7 920, 6gb RAM and had no problem. Then it hit me, there is no reason this should not run on my PC, so there must be something I am overlooking.
The backside of the motherboard has exposed pins from the processor, the front side is liquid cooled!  Today's mothers boards and processor sockets are being packed in with more and more connections in a space (motherboard) that is not growing and subsequently connections are tighter and tighter together making accumulated dusk a real issue.
Once I blasted the backside of the exposed Corei7 with compressed air, I no longer experienced lockups with exporting or lockups when I click on the first one or two images.  More importantly, none of the previous versions of Lightroom looked up and more as well.
In my case, my is only 5 months old and exposed to plenty of indirect drywall related dust.  I can't help but imagine that older systems exposed to "regular" household dust over many months/years might be experiencing the same issue.  Its easy to miss the underside of your motherboard when cleaning with compressed air and in my case, that was key.
I hope this helps so many of you who are frustrated with the random, but consistant lockups like I was,
Good luck and please post your experience to the forums if this works for you!
    God Bless,
    Nate

My problem is after updating to Yosemite does my mail client any longer. I can not even open the mail, and when I "forced closes" mail and try to open it again to go in the entered settings running the colored wheels around and allows me only to forcing close again? does anyone have a solution to the above problem?

You mean the default OS X mail app? Try reinstalling OS X Yosemite if that's the case.
If you are referring to 3rd party mail applications, that's a compatibility issue. Some apps don't work in the new operating system. You have to wait until the developer updates the app, or you have to revert back to Mavericks to continue using it.

  • CC Lightroom 5.6 Crashes on Opening

I am running Maverick on a MacBook Pro, and subscribe to the CC photography option containing Photoshop and Lightroom. Photoshop opens and works fine. Lightroom (5.6) crashes immediately after the flash screen appears. I tried the Adobe suggestion of signing out of CC, then signing back in, but it did not help. Has anyone else had this problem? Any solutions? Thanks, Russell Munson
