Lightroom 5.7.1 Lens Corrections chooses wrong lens info from EXIF when I 'Enable Profile Corrections'. Windows 7

When I enable lens corrections on a jpg image it brings up the wrong lens info. If I try to change it there are only 2 lenses listed—neither one is correct. It lists a 50mm lens even though in the Histogram just above it says 18mm. I then tried the original DNG image & it chooses the correct lens automatically. Both the jpg & DNG image EXIF info show an 18mm lens, which is correct, but Lr doesn't read the jpg info correctly. The problem is the same on all the images I've tried so far.

Most Adobe-supplied lens profiles are for raw files only.  Since there are very few JPG lens profiles LR is probably just choosing the closest one it has which isn’t anywhere close to the right lens.
The reason raw and jpgs have separate lens profiles is because cameras apply lens corrections when they produce JPGs and it would be inappropriate for LR to apply a lens profile when the camera already has, so LR refrains.  If you are sure that your camera has not applied any corrections then you can hack a raw lens profile into a jpg lens profile by text-editing a copy of the .lcp file that comes with LR, and changing the raw designation from true to false inside the file for each profile segment, then move this edited copy to the users profile area.  You might also find the JPG version of the profile using the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader available via a search at adobe.com.

  • Lens data from Exif

This is a question that was raised in the Lightroom Forum, but I think it might fit better in here. In Lightroom there is an option to sort images with respect to lens used, a very neat function, but when using raw files from Minolta (.mrw) or DNG's converted from these, no lens data is provided. The only information in there is "Unknown lens". Can this be fixed?

It may work this way with Pentax PEF files but unfortunately doesn't with Minolta MRW or Sony ARW files. Of course, Minolta AF (and now Sony Alpha) lenses do report their identities to the camera, and the camera does write this info into the EXIF data but it ends up as an obscure lens ID in the Minolta (or Sony) Maker Notes where most 3rd-party software (including Adobe's) cannot (or would not) access it.

This is not true! Adobe XMP won't read the Maker Notes sections but it does preserve them. When I convert an MRW file to DNG (with Adobe DNG Converter) and then create a TIFF or JPEG file from the DNG (with Camera Raw) then the Minolta Maker Notes will still be present in the final TIFF or JPEG file (and of course in the DNG file, too).

Sigma lenses don't have Minolta/Sony lens IDs but just random numbers. Kindly ignore what Sigma lenses do. And please don't bother which lens 'was really used.' Just provide us with the lens ID found in the EXIF Minolta/Sony Maker Notes data. Please!
By the way, is there a way to access the Minolta Maker Note LensID tag (or any tag) in the EXIF data through the JavaScript API? If not then please add one!
Currently, I enter the names of the Minolta/Sony lenses manually into the metadata. I customized my File Info Panel 'Camera Data 1' so I can enter the data there in a fairly comfortable way. This is not too hard to do because usually I am using no more than two or three different lenses per assignment usually. This way, the lens names go into the exif/1.0/aux tag named 'Lens.' Unfortunatey, due to a bug in Bridge or in XMP, raw files and DNG files won't accept changes in this and a few more tags; only TIFF and JPEG files will. Instead, the change will get stored in Bridge's cache only. So I wrote a Bridge script to manipulate the XMP sidecar files' contents directly, to 'burn' the changes from the volatile cache permanently into the disk files' metadata.
All this would become *much* easier when 1) we had access to the lens ID in the Minolta (or Sony) Maker Notes and 2) someone would eventually care about fixing that $#!+ metadata bug in Bridge (or XMP) which was already there in Bridge 1.0 and still is around in Bridge 2.1.

  • Bad - wrong - inaccurate info from 3 Verizon stores

I support an IT environment with 6000+ Blackberry users, we've decided to move to either iPhones or Droids, I was selected to test/pilot the Droid so I went shopping.
I went to 3 VZ stores and asked.
"Do I need ANYTHING other than the data plan to recieve company email using GOOD Enterprise"
At ALL 3 VZ stores they said NO.....
Upon activation of my GOOD account I received a message indicating I DID NOT have the appropriate plan.
I spoke with GOOD and was told I needed and enterprise plan
I CALLED Verizon customer service and was informed I needed the business/enterprise plan to use GOOD.
I spoke with coworkers who were selected to pilot the iPhone and they did not receive the message from GOOD and their email works fine. Mine was cut off.
I called VZ again and was informed they CANNOT manage the iPhone due to iOS being a closed system.
Due to the sales persons lack of knowledge  things are going to happen
1-Verizon is going to lose "prefered" vendor status from a multi billion corp to supply 6000+ users with access
2-Droid is going to lose 6000 purchases
WHAT HAPPENED TO CUSTOMER SERVICE ?

    actually hes probably correct
most companies have a point of contact with vzw, a corp service rep
the company i work for has @ 40 phones, when we want something we call that rep
with 6000 phone they should not only have a rep, but the rep should have an office in thier corp headquarters
nope going into a store was the last thing they should have done
i think there is somethign else going on

  • How can I make LR2.2 pick up the Lens ID from EXIF?

    Hi all,
I'd like to be able to use the LensID metadata created in my Minolta and Sony RAW files to search my photos by lens. For my Canon lenses I get a breakdown by lens type, but all of my Minolta/Sony shots are apparantly created with 'unknown lens'.
    All help much appreciated!
    Adam

Where did you get LR2.2? The most recent public version is LR2.1!
Try an external EXIF reader like EXIFReader.

  • Enable Profile (ACR) and Filter Lens Corrections does not recognize Lens

I did several searches and couldn't find this so it may be a new question. I'm running into it in both CS5 (Camera Raw and Filter > Lens Corrections) and Lightroom 3.3 (Develop- Enable Profile). I'm asking here since I figure if I can fix CS5, I'll know what to do in Lightroom.
I have a Canon 1D MK IV. ACR recognizes the camera and processes the raw file. I check updates and everything is current. With Enable Profile checked, some lenses like my 24-105 L are recognized but my 17-35 L seems to be a complete mystery to it. I'm assuming that this is due to a missing profile.
Am I correct in thinking that the process is, download, install and run the Adobe Profile downloader. If I do not find any hits for my lens, I am then in the spot of having to use the profile creator to build one (or go without).?
Are there any other sources for camera / lens profiles that can be imported into the enable profile process?
Once you have a new profile where do you store it?   under Users> Owner > AppData > Roaming > Adobe > Lens Correction ?
    Thanks
    Rick

Just to make sure:  Have specifically checked to ensure you have the latest Camera Raw update (6.3)?  I know you said you checked updates, but it never hurts to do a Help - About Plug-in... in Photoshop and double check.

  • Lens Corrections: Enable Profile Corrections missing from tab

The "Enable Profile Corrections" check box is missing from the Lens Corrections tab in Camera Raw (CS5). How do I get it back? I'm comfortable hacking my registry or any settings files.
I'd like to report this and see if there's a better solution than Ctrl-Shift-Alt on startup.
    Things I've checked:
The EXIF data for the lens is present and can be read Lightroom 3.
The "Enable Profile Corrections" check box is present in LR3 and functions.
After exporting a copy of the same photo to a folder the EXIF data is still visible in Bridge.
After opening the photo in Camera Raw the "Enable Profile Corrections" check box is missing.
I've used the option in Camera Raw for months, and had it included in my default CR settings.
    Screen shots of
    EXIF data displayed in Bridge
The Lens Corrections tab in Camera Raw (CS5).
The EXIF data for the same photo displayed in Lightroom 3
The Lens Corrctions tab in LR3
    Thanks,
    Ed

After installing 6.2 the check box is back, but this doesn't explain why it went away.
If I had already installed 6.2 and was seeing this symptom what would you have recommended?

color balance looks different going from lightroom to photoshop which is correct?

    Besides calibrating you rmonitor:
Make sure that in PS you have selected ProPhoto RGB as Working Space.
Go > Edit > Color Settings.
LR uses ProPhoto RGB and tht cannot be changed. So you have to make sure that PS uses the same Working Space.

  • How to choose correct version of editing app when choosing to edit image from within InDesign?

    Hi all,
Normally when I wish to edit an image that is in a layout in InDesign I either press option-click on the image or I ctrl-click on the image and choose to edit it using Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC or whatever app I need to use at any specific time. Well, I also have backups going that backup my entire system and so all of my applications get backed up as well.
Well, what is happening now (since today) is that when I choose to edit the image, it is opening Photoshop (or Illustrator, etc.) from my BACK-UP drive and not within the app on my main drive. So, even tho' I already have Photoshop open as I am working in InDesign, when I try to edit an image it will open up the BACKUP copy of Photoshop AS well I have tried to choose "other" when ctrl-clicking on the image and choosing to edit...but when I navigate over to where Photoshop is on my main drive, I cannot choose the main app because it seems to show the main Photoshop app as a folder with the package contents therein.
How on earth can I correct the path to the correct version of Photoshop where I need to do the editing?? I now have to go about things a roundabout way by navigating to where the image is in the finder (via ctrl-clicking on the image link in the LINKS panel and choosing "show in finder") but this is taking twice as long:(( It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have as many images I need to work with that I currently do.
Any help or advice will be much appreciated:))
    Thank you kindly,
    Christine

    Just guessing...
Does the problem exist if Photoshop CC on the main drive is open? If not, consider setting it to open when the computer starts up. The active instance might take precedence over the inactive one.
Usually, the last-installed instance of an application is the one that operating systems (OS X & Windows) associate with a document file that calls for the application, for example, when double clicking in Finder/Explorer. It's common to see the newest release invoked (say Photoshop CC rather than Photoshop CS 6) because the newest release is usually the last one installed. Because Adobe CS applications usually install new versions of common files, it's recommended to install releases in chronological order if it's necessary to reinstall applications when there are multiple instances on the same computer. For example, install Photoshop CS4, then CS5, then CS6; if an earlier release is installed when a newer is present, the earlier common file(s) may cause problems for the application. A consequence of this is the normal, but sometimes annoying, behavior that when launching an application by launching one of its files, the newest release is opened because that's how the operating system works.
In your case, it's possible that the operating system sees the backup drive's Photoshop installation as the newest installation, and launches it. Perhaps backing up Photoshop CC makes that instance appear newer to the OS. Consider leaving Photoshop CC out of the backup operation. If that works, fine! If not, you might try starting the computer from the backup drive, running Photoshop, then quitting and restarting the computer from the main drive. If that doesn't fix the problem, perhaps try starting from the backup drive again, then reinstalling Photoshop on it, then restarting from the main drive. If this works, it may "hold," or some operation like backing up, might negate all your smart tricks.
Perhaps one of these strategies may be a permanent fix.
    HTH

  • Incoming message matches multiple accounts, mail chooses wrong reply-from

I have 2 email accounts for my daughters, daughter A has [email protected] and daughter B has [email protected]
They are both set up with their own account on Apple mail.
Often, mails arriving are addressed to them both. They arrive fine, each receiving a copy in their inbox.
If daughter A reads it in her inbox and hits reply, Mail chooses the correct reply-from address ([email protected])
However, if daughter B reads it in her inbox and hits reply, Mail chooses the incorrect reply-from address ([email protected])
Sometimes it is vice-versa - the choice is determined by the first listed recipient in the original mail.
Anyone know how to fix this ? - aside from having to pay attention to the reply-from dropdown every time.
    Thanks
    Paul

If using one User account, but multiple email accounts, and a message is received addressed to two or more of those email accounts, then Mail will choose the address that is listed first in the Distribution list in the To Header. Furthermore, a Reply All will exclude all addresses in that list that are also setup in accounts in that User Account.

  • Lightroom 4 Quicktime Not Installing Correctly

I Install Lightroom4 and it said that I need to install QuickTime which I did (Windows 7 - 64 bit).  Quicktime says that it install correctly but everytime I go to open Lightroom I get the error message that I need Quicktime Installed.
When I try to use QuickTime by itself I get the following error message
Error 46: Could not load or find the QuickTime ActiveX control.
I have looked and done all of the things on the Apple forum to fix this problem but that does not work.
Since Adobe has set Lightroom  to need Quicktime I think they should provide a solution of how to bypass this error or to not depend on a product that does not work.
Does anyone have a solution for this?

I did include a number. I said it gave me the number -3.
no, that's the number you said you were getting when you did the itunes install.
i was asked if you were getting an error message when you tried to uninstall quicktime and what error message numbers you got then.
that's why i quoted this from your post above my question:
but I can't uninstall quicktime either. It starts and then just quits.
do you understand what i'm asking now?

What IP address does the TC have and what IP does the computer have?
We need more info as we really have no idea what your network looks like.
Modem router, model, type of broadband?
TC setup as bridge or router?
Is the computer getting internet via the TC?
Are you using wireless or ethernet?
Have you set IPv6 correctly to local link in the computer on whichever network client is doing the connection?
Did this work the first time for backup and has now failed? If so simply reboot the TC. It is a constant bug that the TC is lost to the network.

  • V4, "Enable profile" no longer auto detects lens.

In V3 checking the "Enable Profile" box would detect the lens if a profile existed for it.  In V4 I must specify "Make" before it auto detects.  Is this a known issue?

Lens Auto-detection still works for me. Some lens correction settings might have gotten corrupted on your side.
The next time a lens fails to auto-detect, after you choose the make and the lens gets detected, select "Save new lens profile default" from the Setup box. From now on, the auto-detection for a similar camera/lens setup should work.

  • Lens info not in Smart Album?

I am having some trouble with duplicate files (no idea how it happened), but even all duplifinder or duplikiller are finding the wrong duplicates. Basically a bunch of images have a duplicated JPEG, and I can always tell which is the duplicate, because it contains no lens information, while the real JPEG and the RAW image have the lens info. I was hoping to filter out the ones without lens info (make 2 smart albums, one with both lens) and then delete the ones that are ot in that smart album, but while iPhoto seems to see that lens info, it seems you can't use it in Smart Albums. All I see is Aperature, Camera Model, Flash, Focal Length, ISO and Shutter Speed. All the images have all that info, but only 2 out of 3 have the actual lens info (EF50mm F/1.8 II) for example.
Does iPhoto just no deal with this Metadata?

    Correct.
