Lightroom 5.7 in Windows 8.1 and MIDI controlers

Hi,
I am looking for a plug-in or other option with what I can use for example the Novation Nocturn in the develop module in LR.
But for Windows there is probably no solution aviable There is "Paddy", but that is outdated and not working..
Actually I dont undersand, why there is no native support for MIDI controllers, the potential is huge, just turn knobs and edit the image..
Any ideas or solutions? Or at least a explanation why this is not possible..

Fast editing, controlling more sliders at once, using the mouse or tablet just for brush work or cropping, the rest with sliders or knobs(the better choice), you could look the most time just on the image and the changes, and have no need to look on the sliders.

And you can set the functions for more "pages" on the controller, that means you can set really tons of settings. But Paddy "works" for LR 5.2 in a beta version.. You can find Youtube videos, mostly for the Mac plug-ins

Lightroom 5 is supported in Windows 7 or newer. You will be able to use Lightroom Mobile on the iPad, but Lightroom Mobile is not yet supported on Android devices. That support is suspected to be added sometime in the future. Also, take note that you must have a creative cloud account in order to use Lightroom mobile.

If you use extensions like Adblock Plus or NoScript or Flashblock that can block content then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content. 
You can see the installed Firefox extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions".
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

I was running Lightroom 3.6 with the OS Windows XP (Sp3). The whole system crashed, I am unable to recover the serial number. I then upgraded my OS to Windows 7 (x64) and down loaded Lightroom 4.4, I wanted to buy a licence so I then upgraded to Lightroom

If you upgraded from 3.6 to 5 (you didn't indicate buying 4.4) then you will need the serial number from 3.6 in order to be able to use 5. If you did not keep a record of it there is a chance it might be available thru your Adobe account online, but if not, there is likely not much you can do except to return the upgrade and purchase a full version. Try contacting support using chat and explain your situation to see if they can help.

If you did purchase 4.4 then that should be sufficient to use to activate 5.
I can never be sure what goes on with Lightroom, and the Adobe site (even when it works properly) makes finding information about products difficult these days so I am at a loss to confirm anything I say.

Blue screen/Computer shuts down is almost always a hardware malfunction or a driver problem.
Make sure your video driver is up to date.
If it is, then the next suspect, in my mind, is overheating, make sure all of the fans in your CPU case are working properly.

I checked the catalogs and see that lrcat-Journal and lrcat-Lock have been created every time I try to open. I have a backup from the first day I upgraded, but Lightroom doesn't want to access it. Should I reinstall?

Well, is the catalogue (and the folder it is in) writable? Have you actually checked the permissions? Lightroom won't be spitting out the error just to tick you off, and - computer wizard or not - this sounds very much like something you'll have to fix at the OS level: it's probably nothing to do with Lightroom or those funny lads at Adobe.

The Lightroom serial number is cross-platform. It works on both Windows and Mac.
Something else is going on here.

Licenses in all versions prior to CC are strictly platform specific, either Mac or Windows.
A windows serial number does not work on a Mac and vice-versa., neither do the binaries themselves, of course.`
Not sure if you can still request a platform swap (also knows as a crossgrade), which requires destroying the Windows software and license.

JIm, you can make the text larger....look at the Interface Tab on the Preferences menu and you'll see several different Font size options (although there are less on OSX apparently). Make a selection, then close and restart Lightroom for the change to take effect.

I have a dual monitor setup. When I paste develop settings from one image to another, Lightroom switches the active window.

Strange problem. Lightroom 5.5. Windows 8.1. Dual monitor setup.
I'm processing a large batch of photos. I have Monitor #1 set as my main develop window, with Monitor #2 set only to display a larger version of the image I'm working with. If I copy the develop settings off of one image and try to paste them onto another image, Lightroom will switch from Monitor #1 to Monitor #2 as the main develop window, and will not display anything on Monitor #1.
If I then try to paste develop settings onto another image on Monitor #2, LR will then display a larger version of the image I'm working with on Monitor #1.
To work the way I want to, I have to continually drag my develop window back to Monitor #1 every time I try to paste develop settings onto a new image. How can I make this stop?

I just tried what I think you’re saying you’re doing and I don’t have the problem with LR 5.5 on Windows 7 SP 2.
Does the same thing happen whether you use the key shortcuts vs the Settings / Copy/Paste options on the menu?
I ask this because if you’re using the keyboard shortcuts, maybe you have some display-manager program that has bound itself to the Ctrl-Shift-V (paste settings) to the function of move-to-other-monitor which would do at least part of what you describe.
You can also test this theory by doing a Ctrl-Shift-V with an application other than LR as the active window and see if it moves. I suppose Ctrl-Shift-C might also play into it so try both of these hot-key combinations with a program that isn’t LR.
If none of this sheds any light on the situation, then give a more detailed description of the low-level functions you’re doing to accomplish the copy-paste of settings, so someone else could replicate the steps exactly.
Specific detailed steps, like:
left-click on source photo’s thumbnail in the filmstrip
press Ctrl-Shift-C to copy the settings
click Check-None
enable the white-balance and calibration checkboxes
click Ok
left-click on destination photo's thumbnail in the filmstrip
click on Settings / Paste Settings in LR’s menus to paste the settings to the selected photo

I have tried re-booting my computer, but this did not work.

Thanks Geoff. I was finally able to locate the ".lrcat.lock" file relevant to the catalog I want to open. Once I deleted it, LR5 was able to access my images. Problem solved. THANK YOU

Why isn't ratings information set in lightroom showing up in windows explorer file properties?

I am using Lightroom 3.4 64 bit on Windows7 64 bit. When I apply keywords and set a rating in lightroom, only the keywords show up in the file properties in windows explorer, and FastStone viewer. The ratings information is not shown. Is this a known problem, or is there a way to fix it?

Hmm, are you remembering to do Metadata > Save Metadata To File after you change the rating in LR?
LR and Windows 7, Vista, and even XP (if you install Windows Live Photo Gallery) share metadata using industry-standard fields, and Windows' manipulation of the metadata is pretty robust. In particular, they'll share the rating via the metadata field XMP:Rating. I just verified this with LR 3.4 and Windows 7, but I'm pretty sure it also applies to earlier versions of LR 3:
1. In LR 3.4, change the rating of an image.
2. Metadata > Save Metadata To File
3. In Windows Explorer, right-click the image file and select Properties.
4. Observe the new rating on the Details tab.
5. Change the rating on the Details tab.
6. In LR, do Metadata > Read Metadata From File. Observe the new rating in LR.
