Lightroom 5.7, latest ACR and DNG converter don't support my new D7200 NEF files.

When will they be updated to do so?  This should be a very popular camera.  I'm crippled until I can shoot and process RAW files.

  • DNG Converter suddenly stopped working, won't read NEF files

Hi all, I'm new here, but am looking for some help.
I currently am on a mac book and run photoshop CS3. I've been shooting with a nikon d700 in raw. When I upload the photos to my computer I've previously run them through the DNG converter without a problem. Now, for the past two days it has just stopped working. When I try to convert the NEF files, they are just greyed out, I can't select anything. I tried reinstalling the DNG converter, but still no luck.
I never had any issues with it before, and now it suddenly won't read my files. Any ideas what could be wrong?
    Thank you!

Had you run the DNG on a Mac before?  On the Mac, the DNG Converter works on folders only, not on individual files (unless you use the Finder to drop the icons of your raw files on the DNG Converter application icon).  From within the application, using File > Open, the icon and names of individual raw files will always appear grayed out.
You need to target the folder that contains the files you want to convert.
CAVEAT: all eligible files in the folder will be converted, including any and all DNG files that may already be contained in the folder.  So if you have any DNGs in that folder, they will also be converted again and the original DNGs may be overwritten.

I'm having troubles converting my raw files from Nikon D5200 (NEF) to DNG. I tried using Lightroom 4, but it didn't identify the folder containing the files. So i downloaded the latest DNG converter but that too didn't identify the files kept in the folder location. So I downloaded DNG converter v7.3 for D5200. It identifies the folder and files; but it is giving me parsing error on trying to convert files. I'm running Windows Vista Home Edition SP1. Kindly advise. Thank you.

I probably missed this detail in what you’ve posted, but do you see the thumbnails of the three cameras’ raw files in Finder if you don’t convert to DNG?
What has happened in the past is that the Apple raw interpreter doesn’t read thumbnails of DNGs it doesn’t like, where at least one thing it didn’t used to like was embedded lens corrections for mirrorless cameras.  Are the Olympus and Panasonic mirrorless—meaning there is no optical viewfinder and everything is seen on an LCD screen or perhaps an electronic view finder?  If so the reason these are different is that the camera is doing the lens distortion corrections automatically and this information is stored in the raw files and in the DNGs but Apple doesn’t know how to use these embedded lens corrections or doesn’t know how to read the newer DNG spec that does allow for this information to be embedded in the DNG, at least.
Apple could just extract the embedded jpg preview and ignore the other parts of the file it doesn’t understand, but it apparently doesn’t do this.
What I’m not sure about is if the Apple raw interpreter still has this problem or if you’re on an older system without the latest updates for camera raw decoding by Apple.

  • Camera Raw and DNG Converter 4.4 Now Available

    Details here: http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2008/03/lightroom_14_and_camera_raw_44.html

Hmmm... I got the DNG Converter and ACR from the page I listed.
If you go to the DNG page at http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/ and click on Downloads (in the light gray box on the upper right) for Mac or Windows (I'll use the Windows example here because I'm on a PC right now, but it also worked from my Mac) you will go to http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3894 and then you have to click on Proceed to download and it should say filename DNG_Camera)Raw_4_4.zip and be 5.4 meg in size (If you follow the Macintosh link the filename is DNG_Camera_Raw_4_4.dmg and is 12.5MB).
However, if you go to the Camera Raw page at http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html and click on the download links under the main gray box you will only get the Camera Raw file (filename is Camera_Raw_4_4.zip at 3.3MB or Camera_Raw_4_4.DMG at 7.8MB).
Both download places list the Product name as Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter. But the filenames are different and indicate which one you are downloading.

  • Camera Raw and DNG Converter for PSE10 and PS CS5.5

I recently bought a Nikon D5200.  I have Photoshop CS5.5 at home and PS Elements 10 at work.  I had to download a DNG coverter in order to open my RAW files (NEF).  I have 2 questions: 1) Which are the latest updates that will work with each of these programs (the listings on the Adobe Download pages are confusing) and 2) Do any of these updates allow a new NEF file to be opened directly without the extra step of DNG conversion?  Bit of a pain.

Latest DNG converter can be downloaded from following link:

  • D300 and DNG Converter

    Hi,
I am trying to convert my RAW D300 images to DNG using the converter programme (latest version, 6.3.......whatever it is, just downloaded an hour ago). For some reason when I go to select an image from my source file I cannot see any NEF files to choose. I did use the DNG converter about a year ago with D300 Raw files and had no problem. I don't quite know what I'm doing wrong now or why the converter can't see the NEF files. I also seems not to be able to see my older D70 NEF files. Would appreciate any help,
    thanks,
    Liam

    Rob,
this seems to have worked (I am at work and just messing around with one or two NEF files that happen to be on my work computer). I will tinker about on my home machine later. Thank you very much for your prompt and informative reply.......I was becoming very frustrated with this.
    Thanks again,
    Liam

This is the last paragraph from my very first response to you, post #1 in this thread:
…Additionally, you need to install the DNG Converter, not just "download" it, and you need to launch it and run it on each folder of NEFs you wish to convert to raw DNGs.  [emphasis added]

  • CS 4 and DNG Converter

    Hi,
    1) I'm trying to get my CS 4 work with DNG Converter but it seems hopeless. I've downloaded the ARC 5.7 and DNG Converter from the site but when I try to import a raw file via Bridge using the "Convert to DNG" function, it fails only saying "Convertion to DNG failed". I'm using Mac. The Photoshop CS 4 is a part of a "Master Collection"
    2) I've recently switched to Mac and would like to use my Elements 9 disc I bought for Windows about 6 months ago. Is it possible to find Elements 9 on the site? I've tried...and if I would find it, can I download a Mac version using my licence key?
Thank you someone out there / Fredrik

Freddy71 I would recommend posting your inquiry to the Camera RAW forum.

It is possible that you are not following instructions correctly in the DNG converter. The DNG converter interface asks for the FOLDER that contains your raw images. Choose the folder, but don't open it. After you have chosen the folder, click on the Convert button. The DNG conversion process should start.  Does that help you?

  • ACR And Vista 64 Don't Seem To Get Along

Using the latest Photoshop CS4, w/all updates, Vista 64 / 32gb RAM. I start w/an empty cache, and a clean, separate internal scratch disk of sufficient capacity.
Using ACR, open a folder on my desktop, wait until all the thumbnails are rendered, (the little arrow in the LLH corner stops spinning), select the raw files to open.
ACR stops responding. I have to wait a minute or so, or close ACR and re-open.
I can try to open 2 files, or 10 files, with the same results.
I can't find any settings that affect this behavior. Any ideas ? TIA, Ira

Sadly I have these issues also. The re-indexing of the phone takes so long that it almost never completes during my short drive between home, work & most places I go. Consequently Sync is almost always re-indexing my iPhone. Also about every 10th time I plug the phone in via USB Sync detects a "new" device which is very annoying. I've tried every solution to the bluetooth audio skipping that I've found and nothing makes any difference. I've gone so far as to un-pair the iPhone & Sync (on both ends), pull Sync's fuse to forcibly reboot it, reboot the iPhone, repair and setup bluetooth streaming. Even this rather draconian series of steps didn't stop the skipping. Oddly enough using the phone with Sync via bluetooth works beautifully.
The issues with USB I'm pretty sure are on the Sync end. The bluetooth issues I'm pretty sure are on Apple's end. The most frustrating thing is that Apple doesn't even seem to acknowledge that the skipping problem exists.

  • DNG converter don't work for some RW2-files

    Hi,
i found out, that there ist now direct support from CS4 to my new Lumix LX5. :-(
In  some forums i got the hint to use the free DNG converter. that works  for most of the files, but some rw2's it can't convert. yesterday i made  10 pictures and the converter only identificate 7 of them. The only  thing i noticeed ist, that this files are "only" 7MB. The others are  10MB. When i use irfanview to look the rw2's are no problems. the  pictures are all very good. somebody an idea whats wrong with the 3?
    Thanks
    pittip
sorry for my english, but i hope you understand me!??

I don't know anything at all about your file format, but it sounds as if there is an option to create compressed raw files.  I know Canon has this option.  It may be that somehow you used this compressed option, assuming that there is one, and it may be that the DNG converter does not support the compressed raw format.  If not, maybe someone else will have a better answer.

  • DNG 7.4.137 will not see my NEF files!!!!

I just upgraded to Camera Raw and DNG converter 7.4.    I also just started with a new computer with Windows 7 Pro.
My version of the DNG is 7.4.0.137
My camera is a Nikon D90
    Using Photoshop and Bridge CS6
    Computer is Windows 7 Pro
When I open the DNG converter,  it asks where the images are to be converted.   When I Select   the directory the NEF files are in , it says no files match my search.   This is with the camera memory card in a card reader.  I also get this if I copy the NEF files from the camera card directly to a directory on the hard drive.
If I open Bridge CS6 and go to Get Images from Camera,   it will see the memory card in the card reader and see the files, and they can be converted.   BUT if I copy to the hard drive, there is no way I can find them and convert the NEF files to DNG!!!!!  That sucks!!!  and if I do convert them to DNG in Bridge from the memory card, when I open in Photoshop, I see they are camera raw 7.1.   I thought I had installed 7.4?????

And if you don't want to convert all, consider a batch file, like:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe DNG Converter" -cr7.1 -dng1.3 -p0 %*
You can drop raw files onto such a batch file to convert them.
PS - As far as DNG contents are concerned, there is no difference between ACR7.1 & ACR7.4 (i.e. having the latest acr version only matters when there was a DNG-affecting change in that version).
Note: I recommend use DNG version 1.3 if you don't need DNG v1.4 (e.g. for lossy compression, or fast-load data) - why? for maximum compatibility with other apps that are not yet up to speed with 1.4 (e.g. exiftool, although Phil believes next release 9.25 will provide full support).

  • I can't open D7200 NEF file with Photoshop CS6. I checked the updates and there are no updates available. What do I do?

    Hi,
I can't open D7200 NEF files with Photoshop CS6.I checked the updates and there are no updates available. What do I do?
    Nitin

For the time being, shoot JPEG images. At this time there is no support for NEF files from the D7200 in any Adobe product. It was released at such a time that it wasn't included in the last Camera Raw update. And Lightroom hasn't been updated either. Consequently, there is no DNG converter available at this time. We will have to wait and see what programs will be able to accommodate the D7200 when Adobe releases updates or upgrades that support the camera.
