Lightroom 5 andExternal Editor

I use Lightroom 5.3 version 6.1 and have downloaded another editor Gimp 2  - When I go to Preferences in Edit then External Editing, in order to export the photo to Gimp 2, it says Application < not specified > so I cannot connect with Gimp 2. What am I doing wrong or not doing that I should?

In the lower part of the External Editing tab, browse to the Gimp program file (.exe), set up the file type and colourspace and bit depth that you want to use, and then under Preset, select "Save Current Settings As New Preset", assigning a suitable name (such as, "Gimp" - or possibly say "Gimp 16-bit AdobeRGB" if you might want to have some alternative setups).
Then to send a new copy of your image to Gimp for editing, select "Edit In..." and you will see your new editing preset name (such as, "Gimp") presented there. This first creates an editing file on disk (bitmap TIFF, usually), and then starts Gimp along with instructions to open that editing file.
Subsequently, this same process should by default just re-open that same file (Edit Original) - though you can also choose to spin-off a further, independent editing version instead, if you like.

  • Lightroom 4 External Editor

Lightroom 4 has decided my external editor is Photoshop CS5 (64 bit). Strange as this is not installed on my machine.
This means a cannot acess photoshop from Lightroom direct and have to load files into PS manually. Which is a real pain!
Have tried unistalling Lightroom, but with the same result.
    Any ideas out there.

You should post your issue in the Lightroom forum here http://forums.adobe.com/community/lightroom. They will be able to help you.

  • Lightroom as external editor

Is there a way to teach iPhoto (09) to use Lightroom (2) as an external editor?
    Regards,
    Börries

    No
Lightroom is not an editor - it is a photo manager just like iPhoto and each must control its own photos - editors are programs like Photo Shop
Managers like Lightroom, bridge and Aperture import and manage photos just like iPhoto does
You must choose one photo manager (except iPhoto and Aperture do have some limited cross application capability)

  • Lightroom 5 - externer Editor: PS Elements 12

  • Lightroom Filename Template Editor

While importing images from a device, I'm attempting to setup my filename structure to include Camera Type (D200). I've seen several tutorials suggesting the Filename Template Editor has a field in the "Additional" section where you can insert various EXIF information. I've downloaded the Trial version 1.3.1. I only see a variation of "Date" in the additional section. Do I have to set something up for this to be active?

There is a second drop-down list in the Additional Section of The Filename Template Editor screen and that allows you to insert fields such as camera make and model. I did not have to do any set-up to get this drop-down list to appear. (Lightroom 1.3.1, XP Pro SP2).

  • Using Lightroom as an External editor for Elements

I just got copies of lightroom 5 and Elements 12.  I've been using Elements for years and really love the organizer. While I know that Lightroom should have the ability to convert an Elements organizer as of version 5.4, I find the Elements organizer far better for tagging, facial recongition and usage. I like having Lightroom as an editor for the first round of simple edits.  I figured out how to configure Elements to call Lightroom to edit a picture directly.  (Edit-> Preferences->Editing)  WIth that setting, I can now use lightroom on my photos.  I find the problem is when I finish in Lightroom the pictures do not get automatically imported back directly into Elements.  Is there a way to configure this?

Agreeing with 99jon, and adding that in my opinion, the only logical use of the two programs is to use the Lightroom Library Module (not the PSE Organizer) as the tool for organizing your photos, and the Lightroom Develop module as your primary editor, and the PHotoshop Elements Editor as the supplemental editor for the situation where you need more power editing than Lightroom provides.
Why? Because Lightroom is designed  so that it can relatively seemlessly send photos to PSE for extra editing and receive the edited photo back from PSE.
There is no relatively seemless way to have the PSE Organizer send photos to Lightroom and receive the edited photo in return. You will do a lot of extra work to make this work. I am also very skeptical about this statement, I don't think it opens your photos in the Lightroom Develop Module, but I admit I haven't tried it: "I figured out how to configure Elements to call Lightroom to edit a picture directly.  (Edit-> Preferences->Editing)  WIth that setting, I can now use lightroom on my photos."

  • Set up Element 10 as external editor in Lightroom 3, it does not work.  What's wrong?

I am using Lightroom 3.  Just bought the Element 10 and set it up in Lightroom as external editor.  It does not work at all.  What's wrong?

Make sure you are linking to the application and not a shortcut. If using Mac OSX you may need to reveal hidden folders.

  • Can't open image in External Editor.

Hello. I'm using Piccure as external editor for LightRoom 5.2. When trying to open image, I get "Image file -psn_0_S784964 doesn't exist", when my original image has different name. Image name is accepted by Piccure as first command line argument. Looks like LightRoom starts Piccure with wrong arguments.
Could it be that LightRoom starts external editor with different syntax then "/Applications/Piccure/Piccure.app/Contents/MacOS/psplugin /pathToFile/imagefile.tiff". Maybe in some cases it adds more arguments, or corrupts existing path to image?
    Thanks.

What "original" camera file type are you using, how are you creating the TIFF files, and what bit depth (8, 16, 32)?  The Piccure FAQ says raw images need to be converted to 32/channel TIFF files, but under 'How To' it says:
Select “Filter/Piccure/Reduce camera shake...” (Lightroom®:Select “Photo/Edit in/Piccure”. Save the current photo as a copy(TIFF,16 Bit) and run piccure).
Also what are your External Editing Preference settings for Piccure?

  • Why can't lightroom across different folders like Photoshop Elements can?

I have access to Lightroom through CC and I'd like to use it more, but it cannot do a very basic thing that Photoshop Elements, a consumer-oriented product, has been doing for years. That is, stack across different folders. I keep my large RAW files on an external hard drive but keep the edited .jpg files on my computer's main drive. In the Elements library I stack those photos and any other versions such as .psd files. Very useful and I don't understand why this has never been possible in Lightroom.
An additional wish is that I could import my Elements library into Lightroom, complete with stacking, keywords, etc. That would be fantastic.

  • How do I import photos from a Lightroom Catolog into Elements 7.0?

Am trying to import my photos from a Lightroom catolog and cannot. I find the Lightroom folder, but the files wont import to Elements 7.0.

Do you want to  import the photos to the organizer? Then the previous poster gave you the right answer. However, it's not necessary to use the organizer if you already have your photos catalogued in lightroom. Instead, you can set PSE as your external editor and send the photos directly from LR. Lightroom preferences>external editor tab>browse to PSE. Then when you're in the editor or library modules, right click and choose to send the photo to elements.

  • Lightroom Import cannot find files

Lightroom 5.5 has been working fine until today. I have a Windows 7 64-bit computer with 12 GB ram and 1.5 TB free hard drive space available.
LR seems to load OK, but when I press the Import button it slows down to a crawl and then finally comes back with the message that it cannot find any files to import. I have been importing directly from my camera via USB w/o a problem until today. If I try to transfer the files through Windows Explorer - there is no delay, so LR seems to be the problem.
Any ideas? suggestions? Thanks in advance, george

  • Editing in Lightroom 3

    Hi
I want to (and have set up) to use Lightroom 3 as my photo editor from iphoto. I was just wondering if there was a way that I could export multiple photos to Lightroom at once. At the moment if I select to 'edit' a group of photos it only sends the first one. I am still getting used to iphoto as my 'organiser' of photos but am finding it frustrating and limiting, if i store the photos solely in iphoto I am unable to 'find' the photos folder to import to lightroom when i open it independently..and even setting up Lightroom as my 'editor' I can only send one photo at a time for editing...
can anyone help me with my workflow or make it easier..am I missing something?
    Cheers
    Ryboy30

What you're missing is that Lightroom isn't an editor like Photoshop. In fact, it's much more like iPhoto, and frankly, using the two of them makes little sense.
    Both are database applications.
When you edit a photo in Lightroom there is no way for any other app to share this photo unless you export from it.
So, if you send a shot from iPhoto to LR, edit, what happens? You now have the original shot in iPhoto. You also have the original shot in LR. And you have the edits recorded in the LR database. The only possible way to get these back to iPhoto is to export from LR and then import to iPhoto.
So, now you have the original in iPhoto, the edited version in iPhoto - but they don't know about each other. You can't, for instance, revert to the original file from the edited version. As far as iPhoto is concerned, they are two totally separate files.
And, of course, you also have both versions in LR as well.
With a photo editor like Photoshop or Elements, you send a copy of the original to the editor. It edits the copy and the copy is saved back to iPhoto. This is possible because these apps are editors, not database apps.
Frankly, as LR is a pro level app, and does much of the work of iPhoto - and then some - I don't see why you're involving iPhoto in the process at all.
For the record: iPhoto will only send four photos to an editor at one time. A protection against folks inadvertently sending entire Events over.
But even the four won't work with LR because it's not opening the file... It's importing it.
So, to make your workflow easier... pick one of these apps and forget about the other one.
    Regards
    TD
