Lightroom 5 Beta - Most Thorough + Detailed  Reviews?

Hi. Where are the most profound and deep reviews  or introductions of Lightroom 5 Beta? I do not need general reviews just touching the highlights (such as in DPR).
I'd like a deeper look at interesting details such as this look at the new crop functions:
https://holycrop.wordpress.com/2013/04/15/holy-crop-lightroom-5-the-crop-enhancements
Again, general overviews are not needed. Only deep-diving general reviews or reviews of certain aspects (especially image editing and image managing).
Is there anything to read that's interesting even after having digested all the headline news? I am also interested in "Still Missed" lists and in reasonable speculations about features that might still show up in version 5. I'd prefer a written review over video.
Thanks for all links!

The LR5 beta has been out for 2 days and there are a few “what’s new” lists.  If you want things about “what’s old”, you mention image-management which hasn’t changed much if at all in LR5, then find an in-depth LR4 review after looking at the “what’s new” for LR5 so you can tell what is different.  In general, because it’s a beta there may or may not be any descriptions of LR5 as if you’ve never heard of LR, before.  If you don’t want to watch videos, get a LR4 book, that has the space to go through things step by step as a video would show you.

Lightroom ver 1.0 will not allow me to install it. I get an error stating I must uninstall an earlier version 1st. Problem is when I attempt to uninstall beta 3, it looks for the installation package which has been deleted. The error I get is "a network error occured while attempting to read the file lightroom beta\lightroom_b3_standalone_07-18.msi.

  • Adobe Lightroom Beta...

I have been running the Adobe Lightroom Beta since the beta released. I am wondering about two things:
    1. I heard that BETA testers are getting a greater discount than the public rate of $199.00 how do I go about getting this discount? Does anyone know? Also, I have had a problem with is re-exposing my images. There are no defaults set, however as soon as I import and image and click on it is adjust the levels automatically, making the tones more dull and the lighting much darker?? Any input regarding this, I would love to hear....
    ~Jessica

You can get it at a discount of $169 by using following promo code - Macworld07
It was suppose to expire on 2/19 but it still works.

  • File size difference between DNG Converter and Lightroom Beta 4

    Hi,
I want to go the all-DNG route and am trying several things ATM. I want my files to be as small as possible, thus I disable previews and RAW embedding and enable compression in DNG Converter. In Lightroom, there are no options at all. What I do get, are pretty amazing file size differences:
Original .NEF as it came from my D70s: ~5MB
.DNG created by DNG Converter: ~1MB
    .DNG created by Lightroom: ~4MB
The very small file size in DNG Converter is the one that bother's me most. I get these small files from time to time. I checked both the DNG and the NEF in Photoshop, and they seem to be identical. So my question is: What triggers these small file sizes? Do I loose anything? Or is the Lightroom DNG converter not as advanced as the stand alone version?
Maybe this helps: I get the ridicolous small files for very dull subjects that tell the computer scientist in me that it should be easily compressable by common compression algorithms.
    Thanks for any pointers,
    Markus

Thanks for the hint! It did make me revisit those files and now I see the reason for the small file sizes: The Apple Finder does note update the file size view once a file was added to a folder. Here's what I did:
Opened a folder full of .NEFs in detail view in Finder.
    Converted them using DNG Converter
Looked at the sizes of the files as they were shown in the Finder window allready open.
Unfortunately, those file sizes are not correct. If I open a new Finder window of the same folder, file sizes are correctly reported as between 3.5 and 5 MB.

  • Aperture vs Adobe Lightroom (Beta 3) JPEG exports

I've been beta-testing the Adobe Lightroom product and comparing it to Aperture. I'm using Aperture 1.1.1 on a MacBook Pro.
Lightroom has some intriguing features, but I've noticed a wildly different color when exporting the same image to JPEG format from Lightroom and Aperture.
I took the same RAW image from a shot I took with my Nikon D70 and exported a JPEG from Aperture using default settings with no color adjustment. In Lightroom I exported the same image to Photoshop, and then exported a JPEG with default settings and no color adjustment.
    Look at the difference:
    https://www.carsonmedia.com/projects/softballphotos/phototests/photocomparison.h tml
Can anyone explain the difference? Aperture seems to export a JPEG that resembles the original.
    I'm perplexed at the difference.

Yeah, looks like a colorspace issue -- I'm guessing Pro Photo, but it might not be LR's fault. Last I checked, LR actually exports PSDs, not JPEGs, in Pro Photo space to PS. So 2 possibilities:
    1. LR incorrectly tagged the PSD output, so PS doesn't realize it's Pro Photo.
    2. You didn't do a colorspace coversion in PS before saving the JPEG. Try using 'save to web' in PS -- it usually takes care of the sRGB conversion for you. Does it look correct in PS before the JPEG export?

  • Photoshop Touch detailed Review/Walkthrough

For people considering purchasing this program, I have put together the following review/walkthrough of Photoshop Touch for Android.
It is quite long and goes into some detail on the majority of features available in Photoshop Touch, while also highlighting some of the major flaws.  I am extremely concerned with correctness, so if I have made any mistakes please let me know and I will correct it as quick as possible.
Hopefully some of you find this review/walkthrough useful in your evaluation.  It really is a rather amazing program, which with just a few flaws corrected would be one of the best apps available for Android!
To other PSTouch owners, what are your experiences? Do yours echo mine, are there things I have missed or items you disagree with?

That is a good point.  I really should have made it implicit that you can no longer manipulate/edit/transform as text.  The way I have it worded now makes it sound like you can't do those operations at all.  I will alter it to match, thanks for the heads up.
Coincidentially, I actually find it out shockingly close it came to being Photoshop CS on a tablet!  Frankly if it exported PSD as an option, it would be at the very least "good enough" for 90%+ of my tasks.  I also bought Sketchbook Pro and witnessed it's evolution, and frankly, Photoshop touch launched in a much more complete state!  With the exception of a few warts ( use the native UI!!!, even if just to map Back button to cancel! ), I am pretty much satisfied with it out of the box...  except of course the (artifical?) limitation to PSDX and JPG!

  • Uninstalling lightroom beta 3 sample version

Can not install adobe lightroom 1 due to message saying that a previous version has to be uninstalled.
I had already uninstalled previous beta 4 version.
While trying to install the new version, it keeps telling me to find the
beta 3 sample 7-18.msi version in order to allow me to install!!!!
Already removed info from registry. how or where can I solve this problem.
    THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

Your catalog, previews, and all of your images should remain intact. All you should have to do is uninstall 4.3 and reinstall the earlier version and you should be good to go.

  • Upgraded from Lightroom Beta which was on a hard drive which has failed now want to install my upgrade unto new hard drive.

When lightroom first arrived on the scene, it was in the beta stage and had unlimited free access.  I liked it and when Lightroom 2 came out I upgraded from Adobe.   That was on my old computer whose hard drive has failed.  So now wish to install my Lightroom 2 on my new computer.    It asks for the Original serial # which I do not have access to.   Since my original version was a beta how can I get a serial # for a version 1.0 ?

  • Lightroom Beta 3--Slideshow Problem

I am unable to change the order of the slides/images in Slideshow. I can drag the images, but the image "snaps back" and the order does not change. "Help" says you should be able to move images if you have a "collection" without a subfolder, and I do not have a subfolder. Any ideas?

    The beta forum is at
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/labs/lightroom3
In general if you are in a collection(but not a smart collection), you should be able to drag and drop images to create a user sort order.

  • CS6 beta ACR7 'Color Detail' slider BUG Win7-64bit

I'm not sure if this happens on everyones system...
    Steps to reproduce:
    1) Open a photo (RAW, jpg, etc) with heavy color noise in ACR 7.0.0.308 (like ISO > 6400)
    2) In the Detail tab, set the noise reduction 'Color' slider to about 40.
    3) Then drag the 'Color Detail' slider back and forth using the left mouse button while noting the effect on the photo.
    4) Release the mouse button at 'Color Detail' of say 100 (or something far from 50).
    5) Notice that the effect will be revert to the equivalent default of 50 even though the slider numeric value still shows whatever you set it to.
    6) Also notice that the up/down arrow keys can change the slider numeric value, but the effect on the image stays at 50.
In summary, the 'Color Detail' slider works only when the user drags that slider while the left mouse button is in the 'down' state.
