Lightroom 5 catalog corrupt

When I updated to the latest release of LR5 my catalog was corrupted.  I am going to be building a new PC on Windows 7 64 bit and when I create this new catalog, I want to be able to get my presets and collections from the old catalog into the new one.  Is this possible?

Presets are stored separately from catalogs assuming you have the default settings. Collections are in each Catalog so just open the latest back up and they will be there.
I recommend making a copy of the back up catalog bfore you try to use it!!

  • Lightroom catalog corrupt and unrepairable after migrating from LR4 to LR5. Can I send the compresse

My Lightroom catalog is corrupt and unrepairable after I migrated it from LR4 to LR5.  The only way I can use this catalog is by copy/pasting/renaming it.  Only after I do that, is Lightroom able to open the catalog.  When I close LR and allow the catalog to be backed up, the LR informs me that the catalog is corrupt and it fails to repair it.
Can I compress the catalog and send directly to Adobe for inspection?
    Thanks,
    Tim

  • Lightroom catalog corrupted

On my Mac I had to force quit the computer with Lightroom running. The currently used catalog was corrupted on restart and can not be used. I spent 4 hours adjusting 2000 images on this catalog. I know i have to re-import all the images into a new catalog but IS THERE ANY WAY TO SAVE THE ADJUSTMENTS? On the hard drive were the images are stored I don't see the "side cars" that usually save with it. Weren't those side cars supposed to be automaticly created whenever I adjusted something on the image in Lightroom? Please help.

I am using LR 1.4.1 in Windows XP Pro and have a question:
    Where is Edit>Catalog>General located?
In the LIBRARY mode, on my command line, I have these commands: File/Edit/Library/Photo/Metadata/View/Window/Help.
Looking at the options under the EDIT command, I see:
    Undo/Redo
    SelectAll/SelectNone/InvertSelection
    SelectOnlyActivePhoto/DeselectActivePh
    SelectFlagged/DeselectUnflagged
    SelectByRating/ByFlag/ByColor
    Preferences/IDplateSetup
Is there some other EDIT command that you are referring to here?

  • Lightroom catalog corruption

I use the latest version of Lightroom and I backup the catalog every day to an external drive. Today I got the message that my catalog was corrupted and could not be repaired. I have tried previous day backups but they are all corrupt. It does bring up an old backup made about a year ago as a default. Can anyone help?

I had this experience with the Lightroom catalogue and the backup feature. Using tools to look at the files, it did appear to have corrupted the current catalogue but not the copies that I made by simply copying the files. In email conversation with Dan Tull, I have decided just to do disk copies until I get more time to investigate the problem.
Because of the way that it was reporting corruptions, it seems that it may be corrupting the preferences file and thus indicating all catalogues are corrupt until a new catalogue is created. I hope to put some tests in place to prove this and by using SQLLite tools validate that the backup catalogues are not corrupt even though Lightroom is indicating that they are.

  • Lightroom 4 Catalog Corrupt

"Lightroom 4 catalog corrupt and cannot be used or backed up until it is repaired"
Repairing does not seem to help the problem, however I have backed up the catalog numerous times before this occurence.

The first thing I would do is try your most recent backup.
Make a copy of it in your operating system and perhaps rename it.
Then double click on it or choose File->Open Catalog from inside LR.
Set LR to backup on exit and perform optimization.
If everything works then proceed with this catalog for a while, maybe even a month. The concern is that the problem may exist in the backups. If all goes well go on from there. Otherwise repeat with the next oldest catalog.
There are also some folks who know how to repair the actual database inside the catalog but that is beyond my expertise.

  • HELP! Need to restore corrupt file/recover deleted file from LIGHTROOM Catalog

    Hi,
I recently edited a wedding I finished and sent to her via WeTransfer.  It showed that she opened the file, so I deleted it off of my computer.  A few days later she said she couldn't open the file because it was corrupt (at this point I couldn't resend because I had deleted it as stated).
She sent it back to me to see if I could try opening -- but every time I try to open in Lightroom it reads:
    Unexpected Error Opening Catalog
The Catalog could not be opened due to an unexpected error.
Can ANYONE help me recover this file?? I've also tried to run a Data Recovery software to retrieve it from the trash, but it won't recognize .lrcat files (it brought up all of the .jpegs, photoshop, .tiff files etc -- but no lightroom catalogs.
I REALLY really really don't want to have to re-edit 1000 photos again.
Thanks so much in advance for any advice xo

Just did the scan (mind you I have NO clue what I'm doing), but I dropped it in the SQLite and clicked "expand" and it came up "Idle".
I've attached the two messages I got :
Uh, yeah - it's not an archive and so you don't want to try and expand it as if it was one.
I'm not sure which SQLite app you are using. I think SQLite Spy is Windows-only, but for Mac, maybe:

Other Mac users may have more recommendations.
Once you get a real SQLite app, then open the .lrcat file with it.

  • Lightroom 4 Corrupt Catalog... Please Help!!!

    Hello,
I recently tried to open lightroom 4 and I got an error message that states "The Lightroom catalog "Lightroom 4 Catalog" is corrupt and cannot be used or backed up until it is repaired".  When I click "Repair catalog" Lightroom is unable to.  I have tried renaming the catalog as was suggested in a similar fourum topic, but this did not work either.  PLEASE HELP.  I regretably have not backed up my catalog in a long time and there is a mountain of work I will have to redo if I can't fix this. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Aloha,
    David

    Hi guys,
Thanks for responding. So I tried creating a new catalog and then importing from the currupt one and it did not work.  It says "lightroom cannot import this catalog because of an unknown error".
So this whole thing happened when my external drive, containing my lightroom catalog, accidentally came unplugged from my computer while I was working on photos. I have not been able to open the catalog since.  Any other suggestions?
    Thank you for your help!!

  • "suspected duplicates" are ghosts, is my catalog corrupt?

Hi, when importing, some of my photos show as "suspected duplicates" although they definitely are NOT in my catalog.  Is my catalog corrupt?  Is there a way to correct it?  Thank you

    Please disregard:
It turns out that if there are multiple copies of the file in the subdirectory of the directory I am importing from that Lightroom marks them as duplicate, and rightly so.  They aren't duplicate in my catalog, they are duplicate in the subdirectory when I view from the parent directory.  Sorry

  • Lightroom 3 corrupting images on external drive.

I'm using Lightroom 3 with the catalog on my macbook and original files on seagate firewire goflex external hardrive,
( has happened with 2 different firewire seagate hardrives) Lightroom has been corrupting some images (edits and some originals) randomly, which are then un-retrievable apart from my personal back ups.

It's quite understandable that you might suspect Lightroom in those circumstances. However, there are very many threads in this and other forums which start off with the words "Lightroom is corrupting my images", yet in virtaully every case this turns out not to be the case and the culprit is usually a hardware problem somewhere in the pipeline from camera through to computer.....and the challenge is trying to nail it. Remember that Lightroom doesn't usually write to your image files.
I suggest we start by filling in some of the blanks, such as trype of file we are dealing with, e.g. Raw, DNG, Jpeg? What form does this corruption take, can you post a screenshot showing it? Have you tried opening one of the "corrupted" files in PS or PSE (if you have it installed), if so with what result? And can you upload one of the originals which appear corrupted in Lightroom to a file-sharing site such as Dropbox or yousendit so that we can download and try to load into Lightroom to check?

  • Lightroom catalog question

    hi,
i need advice on the issue i encountered with importing a catalog into LR 2.5 and LR 2.6.
i recently deleted a catalog file from a laptop hard drive. i used laptop on my recent trip and upon return transferred all the photos to my desktop machine where i run LR2.6. i forgot to transfer catalog file from the laptop. later i cleaned up laptop hard drive. when i realised what happened (about 3 months of hard labor of processing pictures) i used a recovery software (iCare Data Recovery) to recover deleted catalog.
catalog file was found and supposedly recovered to hard drive.
however, when i try to open this catalog (file-->open catalog) i get an error message "The Lightroom catalog "catalog name" is corrupt and cannot be used or backed up until it is repaired".
i am given an option to Repair Catalog and upon selecting this option an error message comes up "The Lightroom catalog "catalog name" is corrupt and cannot be repaired at this time".
    any thoughts on this issue?
    thank you

    nop, did not work.
i guess there is one positive consolation out of this disaster - i get to relive the wonderful holiday experience once again, although only in pictures
    thank you Victoria

  • Delete Lightroom Catalog to bypass Lightroom CC 2015 crash on startup

!Lightroom 6 (CC 2015) crashes on startup. I'm running Mac OS X Yosemite (10.10.3). I've tried the various fixes listed on the forum (restarting the computer, logout/login of Creative Cloud, and numerous uninstall/installs of both Creative Cloud and Lightroom. None of these have worked.
However, I've found a temporary fix.
    1. Logout of Creative Cloud
    2. Open your photos folder
    3. Delete any Lightroom Catalogs
    4. Login to Creative Cloud
    5. Open Lightroom CC
    6. A dialog window appears: Lightroom Catalog was not found. Choose the option "Choose a different Catalog"
    7. Choose the option "Create a new catalog"
    8. Lightroom now successfully opens.
To clarify, I'm not trying to open a Lightroom 5 catalog. I'm not even going to bother importing my actual working catalogs until this issue is resolved.
This option, while successful, is tedious. Is there an easier fix? Is this an issue with file permissions? Or is the process of opening existing catalogs corrupted?

    Jay,
If you just completed installing Lightroom CC, try signing out and back in and see if it helps. This link explains how:
sign in and sign out of the Creative Cloud desktop app

  • Technical question:  Is it possible to work on the same Lightroom catalog across two computers and have the catalog sync? If so, how??

    Technical question:
Is it possible to work on the same Lightroom catalog across two computers and have the catalog sync? If so, how??
Here's a little more information on what I am trying to do.
I have a desktop computer with 4tb worth of pictures that has Lightroom and Photoshop on it. I also have a laptop with Photoshop and Lightroom. I would like to be able to edit those same pictures with their current edits that are currently on my desktop on my laptop. If this can be done, I'm sure I need to be on the same wifi network for my laptop to be able to access my desktop's photo library. I am technically savvy enough to map a network drive, but how do I get my two Lightroom catalogs to sync when I make a change on one of my computers? Would i be working only on one catalog? Or two separate catalogs that would need to be manually synced to the other computer? Would it be beneficial to put my lightroom catalog on something like dropbox?
I'd appreciate any information or tutorials if someone knows how to do this.

I do this by having my LR catalog and photos on an external drive that I swap between the two computers.  I am on Windows and have the same drive letter assigned to the drive on both computers.
Because the photos are on a portable drive I back up the portable drive to another hard-drive every night or after important work, because portable drives are susceptible to damage or loss.

  • Can I move the Lightroom Catalog from one location to another?

Lightroom by default, places the Lightroom Catalog in the Pictures folder on my PC. My image library though, is located on an external hard drive. I've read that it is better to have the Catalog at the same location to avoid disconnected images, which sounds reasonable. Is it feasable to move the Catalog over to the same drive as my image library, or will that cause a problem? In other words would I need to start over again and create a new Catalog on the external drive? I know this sounds like a dumb question, but I've learnt to my cost that the obvious solution isn't necessary the correct one.

For better performance it is preferable to have the catalog located on an internal hard drive. By default the catalog and the preview files have to be located in the same folder since there is continual read/write taking place while working in Lightroom. Lightroom does not make any changes to the original files so its fine for them to be located on another hard drive internal or external. Lightroom loves lots of hard disk space to operate so if your catalog is on an internal drive make sure it not starved for disk space.
However its ok for your catalog/previews files to reside on an external HDD with your original photo files.
Your photo files can reside on a HDD conected to a network but your catalog and preview files cannot be located on a network.
e.g I have my catalog / previews on the main HDD with my operating system with over 50% free disk space. My Photo files are on a secondary internal HDD with over 75% free disk space. I back up to external HDD.

Open Pictures folder and move the files named lrcat-journal and lrcat.lock to Desktop.
Make sure that , they are not inside Pictures folder any more and try to open backup from Lighrtroom and check..
Any LRcat file with .lock extension , move it to Desktop.

Make sure you don't have another copy of Lightroom actively running on your computer. If not, find your catalog file in Finder/Explorer. Look for a file with the same name, but with a .lock extension. delete that file. Now Lightroom should open the catalog again.

    Hello Forum Members,
I figured it out. You have to select  the actual logo of the Lightroom catalog and then click on  "get info" and allow what ever your new user name to "read and write". That worked!
