Let's try a preference file reset: Resetting (or 'Trashing') the Lightroom Preferences file - Lightroom Forums Does that get you past startup?

  • Lightroom CC freezes on splash screen

I've seen lots of posts about Lightroom CC crashing, but my problem seems to be different.
I installed Lightroom CC through the CC app.  When I launch the app, it asks me to update my catalog.  After the "Updating Catalog" dialog finishes, it launches Lightroom, my catalog appears in the background and then it freezes on the splash screen.  If I click anywhere, it goes black behind the splash screen and the program says it's Not Responding.  Here's what I've tried:
    - waited a really long time to see if it was actually doing something
    - restarted computer
    - uninstalled and reinstalled Lightroom CC (on a different hard drive)
    - quit creative cloud app and relaunched
    - logged out (via preferences) and logged back into creative cloud
    - started a new catalog instead of updating a current catalog
    - reset/trash preferences
No matter what I do, it freezes on the splash screen.  Can anyone help?
    I'm using Windows 8.

Hi, first of all excuse me about my Englis.
I had the same type of problem you described! The program, after a logged out and logged back in in the creative cloud desktop app, just freezes.
I did this way and it now works properly:
    - I make sure I just have my older catalog plus the preview file in one folder
    - I lunch Lightroom and when the upgrade dialogue box appears I created a new catalog (choose desktop as destination so it is easy to find later) and click ok
    - At this point you should be inside Lightroom with an empty catalog
    - from the pull down menu under "Lightroom" (on Mac, on Windows I guess it should be under "File") choose: "open differe catalog" and on the next window look for your old catalog"
    - Lightroom should tell you that the catalog needs to be upgrade and after you confirm and after the catalog conversion process ends you should be inside Lightroom with your old catalog upgraded and working
    - next time you start Lightroom it should be working as expected.
    - delete the folder Lightroom created on the desktop for the new catalog you created before.
    bye!

  • After Effects CS5.5 - Lion: Crash on splash screen EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGABRT)

So one day, out of the blue, After Effects stops wanting to open. The worst part is, I can't think of any changes that would have caused this.
I am running After Effects CS5.5 (10.5.1) on my MacBook Pro 13" (Early 2011), which is running Mac OSX Lion. Here is my system profile (with some sections omitted).
Just a few weeks ago, I began to consistently receive this message during the AE splash screen:
    After Effects Alert
Last log message was: <140735295236448> <ASL.ResourceUtils.GetLanguageIDFromRegistry> <0> Unable to obtain the User 'Language' registry key at: Software\Adobe\After Effects\10.5.1\ Defaulting to 'en_US'.
    Here is a crash log.
    Any ideas?
    First attempt
I figured maybe I had a bad preference file, so I cleared my prefs. Nothing changed aside from a modified error message:
    After Effects Alert
    Last log message was: <140735295236448> <DynamicLink> <5> 0x114ee8418
    And a crash log.
Also, if I try opening AE again, after I cleared my prefs and opened it once, the error message returns to the "registry key" alert.
    Second, third, fourth attempt
So I uninstalled and reinstalled After Effects about 3 times. No change. I used the latest download from Adobe, and the original Master Collection image: no difference.
    Fifth attempt
I created a second admin account to see if this was an isolated issue. It isn't; same problem.
    Sixth attempt
I thought about QuickTime, so I opened up System Prefs, and uninstalled Perian. I left the prefpane there though.
Also, I have the latest version of Java.
Seventh attempt (Added 19 March 2012)
I used the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool to wipe out my entire Adobe installation. I still have the same problem after a reinstall. I'm going to try installing AE on my external drive next. This is really frustrating. Has anyone experienced this issue and found a resolution?
    Notes
Interestingly enough, all of the other Abobe CS5.5 apps I installed work fine:
    Bridge
    Photoshop
    Illustrator
    InDesign
    Premiere Pro
    OnLocation
    Extension Manager
    Added 1:54PM, 13 March 2012:
Also, opening up the render engine causes the same error message.

I just installed AE, have never used it, and am seeing it bail on startup with the same odd language registry key error. Please see my post on a related thread.
Any luck here? Would be nice to get AE to boot so I could evaluate it.

    Reinstalling
Clearing the preferences in the AppData folder
Signing out and logging back in to CC
    Restarting the computer
    Updating the video card
    Changing language preferences
    Still nothing.

My Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 is crashing on the splash screen. My Adobe Premiere Pro CC was not crashing until 2014. I am very angry and frustrated this subpar update was forced on us.
    I have tried:
    Uninstalling and re-installing SEVERAL TIMES
I have tried changing the compatibility issues to windows 7
I have tried running in administration mode
I have started my computer several times
I have tried updating my video drivers
    My computer specs:
    ASUS G75V gaming laptop
    1tb SSD
    12g ram
    3gb video memory
I have deadlines for clients and this is VERY frustrating!!!!

Hey everyone. I'm having the exact same issues. I've been using Premiere Pro CC for over a year, and only just recently started having issues with it.  Now, every time I launch it crashes(not responding) before it even gets to the project screen.
    I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
    Intel i7 4820k 3.70 Ghz Processor
Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 graphics card with the latest drivers. 9.18.13.4052
    8 GB of DDR3 1333Mhz RAM
So far I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling all graphics drivers as well as Premiere with no luck.
I then uninstalled every single Adobe application, including CC.  Then reinstalled CC and Premiere by themselves.  Still no luck.

  • Illustrator/indesign and premire pro cc 2014 crashes after splash screen

Hi, I can't figure out whats going on, I had CC running fine, the 2014 updates came and all software except photoshop crash after the splash screen.  I have done everything I could think of.  Verified fonts, I've uninstalled and re-installed creative cloud and the software.  I ran adobe cleaner which get rid of the original CC software (I didn't want that to happen)  I've deleted preferences, ran disk permissions and repair. CS6 software install and runs.
I am lost to say the least as to why photoshop CC 2014 works and yet, the others crash.  Any Ideas?
    Thanks.

    Hi camdude,
Can you send the Adobe Illustrator CC 2014 crash logs to me at [email protected]
The steps to get the crash log are:
    1) Open the finder app.
    2) Press command +shift + g to open the "Go to the folder" dialog.
    3) In the text edit field type "~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports".
    4) This will take you the DiagnosticReports folder.
    5) Please share the latest crash log file from this folder.
    With Best Regards,

  • Premiere Pro CC crashes at splash screen

Hello everyone. Having a problem that I hope someone can help me resolve.
This morning I restarted my workstation and when it rebooted I was unable to launch Premiere Pro CC. It gets stuck on the purple splash screen that normally loads all of the assets. After a while, it says "Premiere Pro CC is not working" and gives me a crash log. I'll post the crash log but first I'll list some of the things i've tried to fix this..
    1. Restart the computer
    2. Update all drivers
    3. Run Premiere in compatibility mode and as an admin
    4. Reinstall Premiere
    5. Adobe tech support used remote acces to replace the file "dvamarshal.dll" in my Premiere folder (but it still doesn't work)

  • After Effect CS6 crashes after splash screen

I cannot get After Effects to open. When I try to open the software, I get a splash screen, and then the window opens, but the it stops responding before the interface can appear. I thought the issue may have been my virus protection (norton), so I tried shutting down my firewall and restarting my computer. This seemed to work for me the first time I tried it; After Effect opened and everything seemed to work fine, but the next time I started the computer and opened the software it continued to crash, and what I thought was the solution no longer worked. Premiere, Photoshop, and Audition work fine. However, the trial version of FX Home's software, Hitfilm 2, gives me the same problem as well. I have tried alot to get both of these programs to work with no success. I would appreciate any suggestions as to how I might fix this.
    Computer spec:
    win 7 64-bit
    intel i7 960 3.2ghz
    12 gb ddr3
    nvidia 560 ti

Updated to 310.7 from 306.97, but still no luck. When after effect stops responding there is sometimes a dialog box asking me if I want to send my information. This dialog box does not always appear every time I try to open after effects, but when it does, this is the additional information it gives me:
Files that help describe the problem:
    C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\WER9F1C.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml
    C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\WER193B.tmp.appcompat.txt
    C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\WER19AA.tmp.mdmp
However I can't find these files on my computer. This is also the same information I get when trying to open FX Home's software, except when I try to open that software I do not get a splash screen or window, the .exe shows up for a few seconds in the task manager and disappears.

  • Captivate 5 crashes after splash screen

I've downloaded the trial version of Captivate 5 and every time I try to start the program, I can't get passed the splash screen.
    I'm running:
    Win7 Home Premium, 64-bit
    i5 2.27 GHz
    4 GB RAM
    350+ GB memory available
Upon initial launch, program crashed and produced an error message: "Adobe Captivate is not responding." I changed the AdobeCaptivate.exe file properties to "Run this program in compatibility for: (tried all options)" and "Run this program as an administrator" and no luck. Making the file compatible to a previous OS version caused the file to simply freeze (rather than crash) but prevented the Trial Activation prompt when operating as compatible for versions earlier than Vista.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling 6 times, after following various recommendations on potential fixes. Have also tried:
    Cleaner tool - http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs5clean.html
    AdobeNotificationsDllFieldReplacementTool.exe
Deleting the "amt3.log" file from the temp folder (saw this in a previous post, I guess to look for process errors)
The only "error" message listed in the entire amt3.log file is "Sequence Error!  PreValidate called after Validate!" towards the very end of the log sequence. I'm at the end of my rope here. I almost purchased Captivate 5 without downloading the trial version first. I'd still like to purchase it but not if I can't even get the trial version to work.
    Someone please help. Thanks.

Hi and welcome to this forum.
It sounds like you've tried most of the usual fixes for this installation issue.
I'm only a regular user like yourself but I know that the Adobe developers watch this forum closely for any issues like the one you're having.  They'll usually chime in pretty quickly to offer assistance via some kind of screen sharing session so that they can investigate what's happening.
Stay tuned and be patient. Help is on the way, but even developers need a weekend.

Ok, so if this happens to you here is the solution:
The problem relates to the installed fonts you have. There is no way of knowing exactly which one it is without trial and error enabling and disabling. What worked for me was using a font-managing software like Font Book and having it validate all your fonts. From there delete or disable any questionable ones with errors. Not all fonts with errors create this problem, so it is possible to re-introduce fonts and isolate the one(s) that cause the crash.

  • Illustrator crashes before splash screen with networked home dir

I’m having a problem with deploying Adobe CS6 in my school’s labs. Actually, this problem only affects Illustrator CS6 as all the other applications of the suite are functioning normally.
Here are some data about our network Environment
120+ imacs of various models (from late 2007 to early 2013)
Each mac is bound to 2 directory services (Windows AD and a Mac mini server)
Authentication is taken care of by the Windows AD server.
Preferences management and Mac-specific settings are controlled by the Mac server
Each user (teacher and student) has a remote home directory located on a huge (21 TB) synology NAS
The address of this home directory is maintained by the windows AD and retrieved at logon
Users can authenticate with no issues and their home directory is correctly mounted on the Imacs. The applications of the Creative suite (deployed through AAMEE) are all working fine except for Adobe Illustrator CS6.
    Here is the problem
If a remote user (that is a user with a distant home directory, so pretty much everyone in the school)  launches Illustrator, The application hangs and crashed even before this beautiful brownish splash screen appears on the screen. I can see illustrator in red in the activity monitor an have to kill it manually
If a local user logs in (that is the local admin or the guest user) Illustrator works fine! (Which tells me that it is not an install or dependency issue)
In short, It looks like Illustrator does not like users whose home directory is not stored on the local machine.
Has anyone run into a similar issue?  Is this documented somewhere? Are there some preferences I need to customise to make Illustrator work with remote users? Will it be naturally solved when I’ll deploy Illustrator CC in a month or so?
In case any Adobe employee read this message, I attache the Crash report as generated by my iMac.
Any insight on this issue is very much appreciated. I’m stuck with this one...... heeeeeeelp!!
Thanks and regards from cloudy Belgium!

    I confirm what Serge said.
We worked on this issue with the Illustrator team and Illustrator just does not work when the home directory of the current user is not on the local drive.
That being said, it IS possible to make Illustrator work in a Network environment. There are 2 ways to do that.
    1) when binding the MAc to an Active Directory domain, tick the "Force home directory on local drive" checkbox. That will create the home directory of the user on the local drive and Illustrator will work fine. The down side of this method is that if the user switches to another Mac (whith is the case in our school lab) his home directory will be re-created from scratch on the new Mac and all his custom preferences and setting will be lost.
    2) Use the WorkGroup Manager to create a roaming profile. With this method, The home directory of the user is copied over from the network location on the local drive at logon. As far as Illustrator is concerned, The home folder is then local and everything works as expected. You can have the local home folder be synchronized with the remote home folder at logout (or even at regular intervals during the session) so that the custom preferences and settings of the user does follow him from Mac to Mac
The only case where Illustrator does not work is when the home directory is mounted as a remote folder. That configuration prevents Illustrator from openning.

  • InDesign Crashing at splash screen

InDesign CS5 keeps crasing during the start-up splash screen. There is no error message, it immediatley opens the crash report. I've unistalled it and reinstalled it twice already with no luck. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for the thread it worked. I was having the same problem with Fireworks. All working now.
Here's the instructions that worked from the thread provided:
    22. May 6, 2010 8:32 AM in response to: dip694
    Re: CS5 crashes when opening
    Hey Guys!
New in here, but I've been banging my head with this problem and found a very odd solution here... I will now explain:
When trying Photoshop CS5, I was surprised by a message that said that it couldn't save its preferences... So I went to where Mac stores its preferences files and to my amazement saw that every CS5 folder were locked to my user! Oddly enough, only CS5 preferences folder were locked... So I went manually and unlocked them all and... success!
So... go to /Users/[USER]/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/Version 7.0. In Finder menu, File/Get Info....
The last pane is something like Sharing and Permissions (don't know if this is exactly what it is called, I am working on a Portuguese Mac OSX). Expand it, press the little lock button, and press + button... add your user (I've added admin too, but don't know if it is necessary), give Reading and Writing privileges to it... and voilá!
Apparently everytime that an Adobe CS5 product creates a folder in there, it creates it with this weird users privileges... Really don't know if it is a Mac OSX (10.6.3) issue or Adobe CS5 (Master Collection Trial).
    Hope this info helped...

  • Adobe Illustrator CC crashes on splash screen

    Hi there,
I couldn't find a similar thread with similar solutions so here we go, about 2 months ago my Adobe Illustrator CC stopped opening. It will start up and show the splash screen but then stops while "Reading Fonts" (see image below)
I hadn't changed anything or downloaded anything that I know and I assumed it would start working again but alas.
    I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2011) running Yosemite 10.10.1
Things I have tried so far to fix the problem:
    Uninstalled / reinstalled AI twice.
Restarted my computer a million times.
Cleared cache folders as per other forums suggestions.
Reset system fonts and deleted all non system fonts (Through Font Book, if there's another way to solve the font issue please let me know)
Please help if you can, I'm at a complete loss.
    Thanks.
    Screen it gets stuck on:

    Alice,
Item 1) and 11) under 5) in the following list may be relevant (I am unsure whether FontBook serves you well), and the full 6), too.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible), for CS3 - CC you may find the folder here:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/preference-file-location-illustrator.html
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.
