Lightroom 5 Develop Module Not Responding

The LR5 develop module will flash not responding after about 5 minutes of use.  I have to shut down LR and restart it to get it to respond, but it gets kind of old having to do it every 5 minutes.  Photoshop CS6 had the same issue with ATI drivers and, as far as I know, that issue has not been resolved.  The workaround was to turn off hardware rendering, but there is no option, that I can find, in LR to do that.  Anyone else experiencing the same issue?  Any temporary solutions other than dropping ATI altogether?

  • Develope module not working - tried advice

    Hi
Lightroom develope module is giving the error stating I need to renew my membership, which I don't.  I have tried the log in / out, folder permissions, deleting advice on the site, but it doesn't work.  Running on Mac.
    I need this urgently.
    Thanks

  • LR 3.2 Develop module not fluent but CPU not fully taxed

    Hello,
on my AMD Phenom II X6 2.8GHz (Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit, 4GB RAM) I experience LR3.2(64Bit)'s Develop module not to be really fluent. Esp. manual lens correction is sluggish. I expected the CPU to be fully taxed but I only see all 6 cores at 55-70% load. I tried overclocking the CPU to 3.2GHz but it doesn't really help. The CPU load decreases to 45-60% but there is not so much of a performance difference. I don't see a difference when I switch off writing metadata to files either. I also tried to exclude JPG, CR2 and lrcat files from the virus scanner's plan. LR uses around 950MB of ram. The catalog is around 15000 files large and I work on Canon 15MP CR2 raws (around 20MB/file).
Any idea what I could do?
    best regards,
    Fabian

IME a lot of this slow response to sliders etc is due to graphics card and driver problems.
Sorry Bob but I fully disagree with this. Most people having these problems with LR3 have up-to-date drivers and powerful systems. Moreover, what if Photoshop CS5, DxO Optics Pro, Bibble 5, LightZone,... work normally without any performance issue on a given system and LightRoom drives you nuts because it sometimes becomes so slow on the very same system? How could one explain that on the same system where the same display drivers are installed, LR 2 works with acceptable performances while LR 3, which is supposed to enhance these performances, brings the system down to its knee under some  circumstances?
Finally, these performance problems are almost always appearing when using local adjustements on the Mac and on the PC. And this should be caused by a display driver that is not up-to-date?
I regret that Adobe have been totally quiet about these problems since they appeared and especially since the release of LR 3.2. It's obviously a bug (or a series of bugs) and they could at least advertise that they are working on a fix.
You can have the most up-to-date graphics drivers and the most powerful systems, but still suffer from bugs in the graphics drivers. Just have a look at the release notes for the latest nVidia graphics http://http://uk.download.nvidia.com/Windows/260.89/260.89_Win7_WinVista_Desktop_Release_N otes.pdf
This very lengthy document lists all the problems that have been solved and those that are still unsolved, and you will see that the driver has problems with some programs (games mainly) and not others, runs faster with some games and not others, has problems with some graphics cards and not others, etc. It is an absolute minefield of bugs/problems.
I'm not saying that Adobe can't get round some of these problems themselves, as they have done in the past, and they have co-operated with nVidia in the past to solve some of the problems. They are probably still doing so.
Local adjustments have always been the achilles heel of LR; when you read how they are done, it is not surprising that anyone expecting to do loads of local adjustments runs into problems eventually. Personally, if an image needs a lot of local adjustment, I take it into Photoshop, which is better able to do this sort of work because of the fundamental difference in the way the program works. Horses for courses!
If you have a nVidia card, and go to the nVidia Control Panel, under 3D settings you will see a long list of variables that can be altered, and the panel has preselected sets for different programs and games. A long time ago, people showed that some of these settings had a big effect on LightRoom performance.
I'm sure Adobe is working on all the problems that they know about, and that the next version of LR will have fixes for some of the problems. But they won't cure all of them any more than nVidia, which still has loads of problems in driver version 260! LR is only in version 3 (Photoshop is in version 11).

  • Lightroom 2.7 not responding

    Hi,
I use Windows 7 - 64 bit OS and Lightroom 2.7. Frequently, when I'm on develop module, I get a message (on title bar in parenthesis) "not responding", which is usually followed by flickering of screen and sometimes screen gets frozen. Any suggestions as to how to address this problem?
    Mukib

Sounds like the OS has detected that the application is no longer being a good neighbour, and is cycling hard. The key is finding out what Lr is doing in these cases. Unfortunately, there is no easy way for mortals to get a thread/stack dump on Windows.
Is it cycling hard on memory (is virtual memory being hit)? Is the CPU pegged?

  • Develop module not displaying photos and tool updates.

This problem just cropped up on a previously working install - Windows 7, LR 5.6
The large display of the image in the develop module does not update for any of the actions selected in the develop module.  Pick a tool, make an adjustment - you cannot see the results of your adjustment on the large image.  The image in the filmstrip does display the results of the adjustment.  Selecting the crop tool causes the image to go grey.
Using the simple tools in the library module - they all work and show the proper results.
I have uninstalled LR and re-installed.
    I have purged previews.
    I have deleted "Lightroom 5 Preferences.agprefs".
    What next?
    David Hidding

Further info - Full Screen mode in the Develop Module - it's just black, no image.  FS mode in the Library module works correctly.
I have tried loading the latest video drivers for my video card, rebooted multiple times, etc.  Frustrated.
I should also note that this problem started right in the middle of an editing session, everything was fine, and then suddenly, the image stopped updating.

  • Develop module not working since upgrade to 4.2

I've installed the 4.2 upgrade and now the develop module doesn't work anymore. It was working fine on 4.1, 64bit version.
I'm on Windows 7 Pro, with second generation i7 CPU, 16 gig Ram
Please have look at this thread at Photoshop.com were I reported this problem with a lot of details already. So far no help provided.....and that's 4 days ago.
I really need help with this as I cannot work my Photos until this is fixed...or at least a solution to remove system files that are not removed when un-installing, as they bring the problem to a previous version that was working just fine before upgrade to 4.2 ( un-installed 4.2 then re-install 4.1, then 4.1 now has the same problem I have with 4.2) What a mess.......

Thank you both, as this was the lead I needed to follow.....
The profile is the problem...yes,.... and no....
I use X-rite Color Munki as my profiler, latest upgrade, 1.0.2.0
Using the above info, I've switched from my profile to sRGB, to manufacturer profile and others in the list...result : mine has the problem and not any of the others.
I've just spent 7 hours straight, un-installing, re-installing, LR 4.2, 4.1, Color Munki, deleting the content of the LR Preference file, re-profiling using "easy" and "advanced", trying all kinds of combinations and sequences of the above....
    My findings:
1- In LR 4.1   Using my profile, and deleting the content of the " Preference" file before starting LR, everything works just fine. Then when you shut it down and re-open it, the problem is back. Using " Task manager", I force the shut down of the " Not responding" LR, go back to deleting the "preference file" content, and LR works again. This does not work with LR 4.2
2- In LR 4.1   On the last re-calibration I've done, I tried again and it did not work. Went to change profile to my default manufacturer's one and as expected LR worked....but I noticed that the calibration profile change did not affect the monitor screen, and LR 4.1 works perfectly on multiple starts and closes.
Here is the interesting part....: My Color Munki profile is still displayed on the monitor, ( I did not "Restart" or "Re-boot" ) and the selected profile is the manufacturer's in Control Panel's Color Management, and LR 4.1 works perfectly. Can it be that the profile itself, displayed on the monitor, is not really the problem?
Is it possible the "Conflict" would be in "Windows Color Management"? or LR's color management protocols?.....
I have not tried # 2 with LR 4.2 as I'm kind of chicken of going another round of hours at it.... Like the saying goes..." If it ain't brokin', don't fix it ".....
So, for now, I'll cary on with 4.1 as I can at least continue working......hopefully, using the "Sleep mode", and not "Shut down", the set-up will maybe stay "as is", and if not, I now know how to fool it.....

  • Lightroom developer module disabled.

I purchased Lightroom 5 via a download card outright in April 2014 and was using it happily until my Windows PC died and and needed a rebuild.  When I rebuilt it Adobe would only let me install LR via CC as a trial version (Shows as Trail Expired in CC now) which was seemed fine as it took my licence number and ran okay for 75 days. But today I get Developer Module disabled, please renew membership.  The only options presented to me on the Adobe site or CC invite me to BUY it. Iv'e tried the obvious steps mentioned in the FAQ but no no avail. Has anyone else come across this particular one. Any ideas on how to fix this.

    uninstall lr 5 cc.

  • Develop panels not responding...

I just recently uploaded some new pics, sorted them all out and went to the develop module to start editing.  When I click on one of the develop panels, it only opens maybe half way.  Tried to open another panel and nothing happens ( Tone Adjustment, HTL etc. ).  I checked my view mode, everything looks OK.  Nothing is hidden, the panels just don't work.  I'm running LR 3.6 on a Dell with Windows 7.  I just tried the panels in the quick develop module and the panels are doing the same thing.  Tried reboot, optimize catalog.  Any help ?

    Hi,
Try resetting the prefrences for your lightroom.
    Location is given on webpage:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/preference-file-locations-lighroom-3.html
You can simply go to the relevant location according to your Operating system and delete the .prefs file.
Then check if it is working or not.
    If working, very good.
If not ,simply create a new catalog, you can use import from another catalog option to get back your previous catalog pictures.
    Thanks

  • Develop module not working

My develop module is not fully opening. The only items it is allowing me to edit is lens profile correction, vignetting. Please tell me how to restore the full develop module starting with temperture, contrast, blacks, whites, shadows, etc., all the way down the whole module. Thank you.

What happens if you right click on "Lens Corrections"? Do you get a menu where you can put check marks next to the other panels? If so, then put those checkmarks there.

  • LR6 Develop module not working

I have just tried to install LR 6 as a standalone (NOT CC) installation. I put in my new serial number, it told me it could not find any compatible products for the upgrade so i had to put in my LR5 serial as well. then it would not launch but told me I had to download Adobe Application Manager as well - despite choosing the non CC download I got something plastered with CC links. Ran it anyway. LR 6 now opens without warning messages but when I go to the Develop module the image space is just a blue rectangle with a white diagonal cross. What is wrong - I've done everything by the book and I have a fully paid for licensed product but it won't work !?!?!?!?

Developer Module only shows blue square with a white cross, images are displayed in the library ok but not im developer Module

  • Develop module not working but I entered a serial number

I purchased Lightroom as a standalone product and registered it with my adobe account online.
However now when I try to use it i get the following error message in the Develop module:
    Develop module is disabled.
Please renew your membership to reactivate the Develop module.
    Now what?

You have installed and are still using the creative cloud licensed Lightroom. It cannot be activated with a serial number. You have to have a creative cloud account and package, and it is all activated with your Adobe ID and password. It will be necessary for you to uninstall Lightroom and install the appropriate standalone licensed version.
Adobe - Lightroom : For Windows : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1
Adobe - Lightroom : For Macintosh : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1
The links are for the latest update of Lightroom 5. After you install, when the trial screen appears choose the option allowing you to indicate that you have a serial number. You will be guided through the process of entering the number. After you have everything installed you will be able to open the catalog that you have been using, and all the work that you have done will still be in place.

  • Lightroom CC sync not responding

    Hi all
Just upgraded to lightroom 6 CC and when i try syncing a few photos it is not responding. I have made sure all things are checked in the boxes and have logged out of CC shut down and started up again etc.... getting frustrated

Have you installed the Lr Mobile app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone and logged into the app with your Adobe id? Are your photos to be synced in a collection in Lr CC?
See this: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Help | Syncing Lightroom - Desktop and the Mobile app

  • Develop Module not showing edits

Running LR 5.3 from the creative cloud.  Had LR 5.2 working fine with a perpetual license.  Any edits I do in develop module are not being displayed until I change the focus to another photograph and then come back.  Also, sometimes the photo will go grey when I try to zoom in.  I have uninstalled LR and reinstalled it but it does not work.  I also reset my settings and that did not work.  The work-around was to create another user and start fresh.  However, this is not productive.  Any ideas?

Ok, I feel a wee bit sheepish. I closed LR and reopened. No more problem. I converted another photo and could see the edits in the main window--without restarting LR.

  • Development system not responding

I am using LV8.  Last week I noticed that when I tried to run LV8 it would not respond.  I am running on Windows XP.  It has worked just fine since LV8 was released.  I even uninstalled and re-installed it.  It still does not respond.  Can anyone help me?
    Thanks
    Jeff

    Hello Jeff,
When you say that it does not respond, what is the actual behavior that you observe? Does the software launch and then just appear to hang? Or does nothing happen when you try to launch the application? Do you know if anything has changed on this system since the application worked successfully?
I apologize for the barrage of questions, but for an issue like this one, I would have assumed that a reinstallation would have worked. This was a complete uninstall and not just a repaired installation, correct? Thanks,
