Lightroom 5 filling up my Macbook Pro

I have been in the phone from Oslo, Norway today with some support guy in India for 30 minutes after 5 minutes of waiting and two guys that could not help before him. The line was horrible, he never called back as he promised to and he did not send the e-mail he promised to send. This is NOT taking care of your customers and very annoying! I want to know why Lightroom 5 is taking up 260 GB of space on my Macbook Pro and how I can solve this. I am a CC client and a professional photographer.

I doubt something is "wrong" in the sense that I'm pretty sure Lightroom is doing what it is supposed to be doing.
You have a number of options here.
One is to optimize the catalog (File->Optimize Catalog) which will (possibly) cause the catalog file to take up less space.
Another is to go to Catalog settings and change the size of the previews you are creating. This will also cause the previews to take up less space. (In fact, you could delete all the existing previews, and when Lightroom regenerates them, they will be smaller)
You could have a bigger hard drive installed. And lastly, as I mentioned, you could place one or more catalogs on another drive. I know you don't want to do this, I mention it again just for completeness. It seems to me to be the easiest solution. But it seems to me that if you don't like this option, eventually you will run out of space on your existing hard disk and then ... um ... we're back at putting catalogs on another drive.

  • Is it safe to just store my purchased iTunes movies in the iTunes cloud rather than filling up my Macbook Pros hard drive?

Is it safe to just store my purchased Itunes movies in the Itunes cloud rather than filling up the Macbook Pro's hard drive with HD content?

Not safe, no. The movie's owner can remove a movie at any time, which does happen from time to time, making it impossible to re-download later. You should always keep a backup copy of any app or content that you care about.

  • Loading Lightroom 4 on a MacBook Pro without CD player

I have just rec'd Lightroom 4 from B&H for my MacBook Pro which has no CD player. How do load Lightroom 4 on the MacBook Pro? Can I copy the CD (on another PC) to a Flash Drive USB Memory card and then use this USB card to load up the MacBook Pro?
    Thanks

Yes, you can. Just make sure that "PC" is actually a Mac or the resource tree may get damaghed and the DMG loses its magic...

  • Lightroom not working on Macbook Pro (2014)

I've just bought a new Macbook Pro, 2.8 Ghz i7, and I've installed Lightroom 5.6 via the Creative Cloud. Everytime I open the software, after the splash screen, all I've got is a grey window (where the actual software should be displayed). Also, I've noticed the top menu is reduced to only "File, Edit, Window and Help".
I've tried uninstalling and installing a few times, and the problem persists.
    Here's what happens:
I've also tried downloading Lightroom 4, that actually works (but since my previous laptop already had the Lightroom 5, I've lost a lot of presets, so, I don't consider a downgrade an option).
Any clue on how to work around this problem?
    Thanks

    Hi Kevin,
Can you please provide screen shots or a screen recording of the issue your experiencing? Capturing the Timeline panel, Program monitor and Effects panel would be helpful.
This will allow us to see exactly what your setup it and hopefully allow us to reproduce the issue.

  • Having problem running Lightroom 5 with my MacBook Pro

A salesperson from Bestbuy told me if I get a macbook Pro 13" with 2.5Ghz i5 and 4 GB RAM, I would be able to use Lightroom 5. I used the trial version, but it was slow on my Mac. Does that mean I need to upgrade my RAM?

Hello! Did you solve the problem? I tried it all, new cable, Apple Store, downloaded what was recommended here: Lion 10.7.2 upgrade and HDMI video issue
...nothing worked. I am frustrated ... My Mac book 2009 didnt have these issues.

    Hi Rikk, thanks,
yes I just tried all those suggested solutions but they didn't work, actually I don't have that folder structure that they're saying... (/Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Lightroom5.plist), my library folder is not there, is in HDname/Library and anyway it doesn't contain those files.

  • Launching Lightroom after download on MacBook Pro

I've just downloaded Lightroom 3.6 on a MacBook Pro but the icon for it does not appear in Launchpad.   How do I start the program?

In Finder, I find a folder called "Adobe Lightroom 3.pkg," click on it and
get the installation window, which I've used twice to install just to make
sure I've done that.  Surely I'm missing something.

  • I am having trouble installing Lightroom 4 on my MacBook Pro.

I have used the LR4 DVD, and it seems to install, but it doesn't showup in an active way on my computer (MacBook Pro w/ 10.6.8).  I can't find it on my computer... it was installed on the hard drive, but doesn't show up on the "dock."  Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Double click your  HDD on the desktop, then open the Applications folder. If it was properly installed it should be in the folder. If its there click/hold/drag to the dock.
Then you should be able to start the application from the dock. You can double click the Icon in the Applications folder to start also.

  • (Lightroom 5.2 in MacBook Pro) Cannot Import Photos.

    Hi,
I have just purchased, downloaded and installed adobe lightroom 5.2 online. I was trying to discover it since it's my first time using lightroom. So I tried clicking on the "Import" button and it showed me different folders from my library. However, I cannot find the folders that I 've created in iPhoto. I saw various online tutorials about importing photos but it's only for those photos that are coming directly from either an inserted memory card or direclty from a camera.
    Please help.
    Cheers!
