  • Lightroom 5 virtual copies disappear

HI there, just recently, maybe in the past couple months, anytime I make multiple virtual copies of images and then close and reopen lightroom, the copies have disappeared. I have a Mac with OSX 10.7.5. Thanks for any help.

How that happened I cannot answer!
To achieve the same I would- Select all images, press CTRL+'  (the key with quote symbols) three times.
To view only the VCs (to delete?) you can filter for 'Attributes' and there is a toggle icon to show only VCs to the right of flags, stars, colors, etc.
You will need a smart collection to filter for VCs that have NOT been edited.

  • Lightroom catalog just completely disappeared?

So i was on my catalog and lightroom had to close because my annoying SSD was chewing up GB again.
I got some space back on my SSD and after opening lightroom my catalog was gone. I tried opening the recent one not the one. I tried searching for it in my pictures not there. Tried in lightrooms directory not there,
My Lightroom catalog just completely disappeared? Or deleted it's self. What do i do? Where is it?

Since we were not sitting at your computer observing what you did, I think this is the key phrase
I got some space back on my SSD
We don't know what you did, but this certainly opens up the possibility that you deleted your catalog file.
You need to search all of your hard disks and SSDs for all files ending with .LRCAT, if you find any double-click on them. Certainly, you should have recent backups of your catalog file, you can use those as well. If you don't have recent backups of your catalog file, well ... um ... that's a major problem.

  • Why does desktop icon and Lightroom in program list disappear?

I have a new computer and have installed and reinstalled LR several times. When I begin work the next morning, the Lightroom icon has disappeared and the program no longer appears on my "All Programs" list. The program is still on my hard disk and will launch from there, but it is time consuming and annoying. I am running LR 64bit on Windows 7. Paul Armes

    Paul,
Are you sure you're installing and using (the following day) LR from within the same user?

  • Lightroom "folders" section, eveything disappeared, how do I get the files back?

Technically I believe the files are still within lightroom, and still on my hard drive. Under Catalog "All Photographs" it has all the ones I've ever imported to Lightroom. I was doing something and right clicked under the folders tab, thinking I was doing to delete a File under the Folders section that was empty and I didn't need in lightroom anymore. and everything vanished. I'm unsure how to get all the files in order again. All the pictures are still there. Just not in the folder's section with the names/section of my harddrive where I upload them too and name them. The raw files anyways. Someone please help me. What do I do?

If I understand correctly, it sounds like the entire Folders panel vanished, is that right? If so, there are 2 ways to bring it back.
Go to Window > Panels, and click Folders.
Or, right-click the header of the Catalog, Collections, or Publish Services panels and click Folders from the contextual menu that appears.
Most people seem to lose it from an inadvertent right-click I think.

  • Lightroom 2.1 has disappeared

    I have Lightroom 2.1.
    Mac computer 10.5.5.
I endeavoured to open Lightroom today ( after not using for a few weeks)
Though having said this - I have done an automatic backup once a week - but nothing else
    2 messages come up :
1." This Beta version of Lightroom has expired. The application will now quit"
Very peculiar -I have never had Lightroom Beta on my computer?
    2. next message with this is " New software for Lightroom available download etc etc.
What concerns me is Lightroom 2.1. which is on my computer is not being recognised.
    Please advise
    thank you
    Sue

Well, whatever it's doing, at least it isn't consistent!
Just for giggles I fired up LR2.1 on the laptop and it came up fine... Same kit, same CD, same installation.... SO, back to the desktop to uninstall and reinstall. But before hauling out the CD and doing all the fiddling I went ahead and downloaded the most recent LR, which is 2.1 (not the update, the "regular" LR) and ran it... Didn't ask for the serial again, didn't appear to do much of anything, but it's working again.
So, it's just some bizarre, normal glitch in the life of working with Adobe products. Like installing Elements 6.0 and having CS3 suddenly start screaming that your trial period is over and making you put the serial back in.....

  • Lightroom 2.1 Crashing Finder

I've installed Lightroom 2.1 on my Leopard 10.5.5 Mac Pro. Now, whenever I start lightroom, my disk Volumes disappear from my desktop and I cannot make the Finder my active app. I can't right click on my desktop, or open a new finder window, or anything. If Lightroom is full screen (my normal working mode) the Dock is invisible (and unclickable) in all other Spaces.
Anyone else with this very frustrating problem? Multiple restarts have not fixed it. Everything is fine until I boot up Lightroom.

    Nate-
    For a test, disable Spaces.
    Kev-
I've never seen a problem on my Macs due to running in 64 bit. (MBPro, iMac)

  • Missing print templates - Lightroom preset ones

All the preset Lightroom PRINT templates have disappeared.  I see the folder on the left that says Print templates and Lightroom templates and user templates.  If I import templates they show up in user templates as expected but the Lightroom Templates is completely empty - just pops up new folder box.  I have checked preferences and looked for the template folder.  I just has a folder for user templates which seems to be what the problem is.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times to no avail.  I also went back and deleted old versions (3,4) and the preferences files and every other file/folder I could find relating to lightroom including catalogs.  I have lightroom installed on both my laptop and Imac.  The problem is occuring on both so it seems that accidently deleting something is unlikely.  I've never looked at the print module before so this may have been going on for a long time.
Any ideas on how to get these.
    <moved by mod from downloading,installing,setting up - kglad>

I assume you mean, Edit / Preferences...  [presets tab] Location: [Show Lightroom Presets Folder]. If you haven't yet saved any print presets of your own, then LR has not yet had any need of a User folder to contain such. So one may not yet have been made.
The easiest way to get LR to do that, (and to be sure that you are looking in the right place) : click the + icon next to Template Browser in Print module.
IOW: save a dummy print preset, doesn't matter about its contents, but enter some very distinctive name and then click Create. By default this should go into "User Templates", which is made as necessary, though you can choose to make a differently named folder if you prefer.
Full path on my Win8.1 is C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Print Templates\User Templates
Then take a look in Explorer and see what has changed - if there's any problem, you can always disk search for whatever distinctive template name you have just entered. Copy your other bought templates alongside this new dummy print preset, restart LR and you should be able to start using any of those. Delete the dummy preset in due course.
(Note that it is quite usual for built-in LR presets to be held somewhere quite different, than user created or user added items. The provided choices such as "(1) 4 x 6" and "custom 1 over 2" may not be findable anywhere on disk, for example.)

  • Lightroom 5 Print module.

    Hi,
I suddenly have some Lightroom 5 problems.
    1) If I want to print an image,
whenever I move from either"Library" or "Develop" modules into the Print module the image in the workspace changes from the image I am working on to the first image in that library folder.
This happens whatever folder I am in.
This happens if I am in grid or loupe view
The only way I can get the image I am working on into the print module is to highlight it in the slide show row at the bottom and then click on the "Print"module icon.
These problems started today, previously I could move from module to module keeping the same image.
    2) The program (lightroom) itself copied a complete folder contents (620) images into a collections folder without prompting from me.
After restarting Lightroom that collections folder disappeared.
I have a MacBook pro and an iMac.
I have recently upgraded both to Lightroon 5 and Mavericks.
I have the same upgrades on my MacBook Pro and the program seems to be ok.
It seems to me that the program may have become corrupted?
If so could I reinstall over the existing program? or should I uninstall or delete the app first?
    Any suggestions please
    Rich.

    Hi,
I have answered the first part myself.
At the bottom of the work space there is  Use: All Filmstrip Photos
                                                                                Selected Photos
                                                                                Flagged Photos
I must have unknowingly changed this from Selected Photos  to  All Filmstrip Photos.
With Selected Photos the image I am working on stays in view if I am in Library,Develop or Print Module.
I hope this may help others.

  • Pictures Randomly Vanish from Lightroom on my iMAC

I’m moving pictures from my old HP LIGHTROOM to my new iMAC LIGHTROOM and have discovered that my pictures tend of vanish from both, so that I’m left completely  unsure if any picture I move to or import into LIGHTROOM on my
iMAC will be there permanently. I’ve experienced this software instability in LIGHTROOM on my PC and was hoping if I moved to the iMAC the problem would
be resolved, but I see it is an inherent  and significant bug in the LIGHTROOM software. I’ve had the entire contents of the catalogs on both my PC and iMAC disappear requiring me to re-import the pictures (resulting in even random duplications} and to reenter and re-annotate metadata for thousands of pictures.  I have searched in vain for any satisfactory explanation, most of all from Adobe, what might be going on here and how to prevent or alleviate the problem. I welcome any suggestions or advice on this frustrating and highly irritating feature of LIGHTROOM.

There was no prompt to relink anything.  What happened in the most recent
"disappearance"  was I imported some additional photos (959 pictures) and
suddenly that was all that was in Lightroom.  All other 31K photos had
disappeared -- no thumbnails, no folders, nothing.  The originals are stored
on the IMac.  And all the work that had been done (in LR)  on them was gone.
When I tried to reload them into Lightroom the 959 photos disappeared AND I
got some 62 k photos duplicates of every single picture even though the
    avoid duplication box was checked.

  • How do I delete files from an external hard drive?

I am running LR 3.6 on Windows 7 and keep my images on an external drive rather than my internal one. When I select the "delete from disk" option, it removes the file from the catalog but not from the external drive. I have to do this manually. What am I doing wrong?

It should be deleting from both the catalogue and disk.
Are you sure that you don't have two copies of the file on disk, and (of course) Lightroom only knows of one of them?
Try this:  before you delete a file, right-click on it and choose Show In Explorer. Then delete the file from disk using Lightroom. Does it disappear from the open Explorer window? (You might need to right click in the Explorer window and choose Refresh.
After your experiment, get back to us.

  • Importing iOS 8 edited images AAE files?

With iOS 7, I could crop images using the built-in Photos app on my iPhone or iPad, then when I imported those photos into Lightroom, the original image and its cropping automatically appeared, just as if I had done the cropping on Lightroom. This behavior disappeared with iOS 8. Only the original unedited image from iOS 8 is imported by Lightroom.
Lightroom complains that it is unable to import files with extension .AAE for the files that were edited in the iOS 8 photos app. Some Googling revealed that AAE is the new XML sidecar format used in iOS 8 to non-destructively record edits. I guess that iOS 7 used a different sidecar format that Lightroom understood. I am using OS X Mavericks, no CC and no iCloud.
I tried to import the AAE files to see what they look like, but had no luck doing so. On my Mac with Mavericks, they don't show up in Image Capture, and on a Windows PC I can see the AAE files, but I get errors trying to copy them.
It appears that if I upgrade my Mac to Yosemite, then Image Capture will be able to read the AAE files.
Has anyone looked at these files? Do they contain any adjustments that Lightroom might recognize if their extension is changed to XML?
Can anyone from Adobe comment if there are any plans for a future version of Lightroom (or other Adobe products) to interpret these files?
    Thanks for the help!

.aae are iOS 8 picture's sidecar (just like adobe .xmp) where iphone saves the list of adjustment you made when you edited your picture (jpg manages as a raw with sidecar). Problem is that so far I don't think any desktop editor editor manage this sidecar file yet. It's probably there just to mantain the picture look when you move files from a portable device to another (iphones, ipads...).
So far the only way I found to export the pictures with modifications applied is Airdrop (iphone to Mac). It will render the picture and send a new edited file, but I think it's better to copy also the originals with sidecars since sooner or later we'll have an .aae compatible editor (I hope).

  • Why can't I access multiple photo catalogs?

I have had a couple of catalogs that were accessible under "open recent"  under the "file" tab.  Suddenly those other than lightroom 3 catalog have disappeared.  They arrived after passing 9,999 photos.  Is there somewhere elser I should look?  Thanks, Doug

File->Open should allow you to open any catalog.
Your comment about 9999 photos is cryptic and doesn't make sense, a catalog can have more than 9999 photos, even if they all come from the same camera, there's no limit.
