Lightroom 5 is distorting my images in Develop view

When working on images in Develop, Lightroom 5 is distorting them. For example, let's say I'm looking at an image in Library view (fig.1), then switch to Develop view (fig.2) — the image is suddenly compressed horizontally (or stretched vertically, however you choose to describe it).
At other times, images get distorted and rotated (fig.3). And at other times, images were appearing as though a sharpen filter had been applied with accented highlights — but this particular distortion doesn't seem to be happening anymore.
This does not happen to all images in the catalog. I'm running LR 5.2 on a 15" MBP with 16GB ram and a 1.2TB fusion drive.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm late on a deadline beause of this, and other local (NYC) experts, as well as Adobe phone support, are as stumpted as I am.

Did you find an answer?  I'm having the same issue with LR 4.4.  It didn't happen with 4.3
The only thing I've found to fix it is re-reading the MetaData file for each affected photo and it is taking forever.

  • Distorted Album Cover Images In Cover View Mode

I have recently developed a problem where a number of album covers appear distorted (lines, dots etc.)when in the cover view only.
The same album when viewed in the grouped or list mode displays the correct image in both views.
    Please Help

i am probably being bad taking this topic to three different threads. strange thing there is no button for me to start my own new thread.
try this...copy album to artist album and grouping, each album done seperately of course. its a work around for me. i think artist ablum and grouping is redundant. if i sort by artist, thats fine to split them all up, but if i click album, it should group them all together in any view. (i can see the use for grouping, but then playlist or genres can do the same job.

  • Have trial version of lightroom images display in library and 'before' in developer, but can't display full image to develop.  Shows as a blue box with a white X on it.

I have downloaded and installed Lightroom for a 30 day trial. Library works fine, but when I try to edit images in Develop, I can't see the full size image just a blue box with a white X on it.  If I switch on to Before & After mode, the image displays fine in the before, but still just blue box in the 'after'.  Can't find any answer to this anywhere!  Please help as my trial days are running out.

  • Lightroom 4.1 low quality image in develop module

Hi all, i have a macbook pro with retina display, in my lightroom 4.1 the images in the library look normal but when i go to develop module the image is blurred and very low quality. In settings the rendering are high quality 2048 1:1
Any way to fix this? Also in my external monitor i notice this thing with minor loss.

This probably won't help you but the preview settings don't affect the Develop module. In Develop the image is rendered from the raw data.
Are you seeing this with raw files? JPEGs? Is it a huge camera file?

  • Thumbnail view to Develop view... can I?

    Hey all,
I must admit I am mystified by Lightroom's UI. But I am learning, slowly.
One thing I have not yet figured out is how to get efficiently from the thumbnail view to the edit ("Develop") views. So I am constantly switching. All day long I go:
    1 - GO TO LIBRARY
    2 - SELECT THUMBNAILS
    3 - FIND THE IMAGE
    4 - GO TO DEVELOP
5 - Do my thing (mainly crop and straighten)
    6 - GO TO 1
This seems a lot of extra clicks. I would just like spend my time in one environment where I can do what I need, not constantly having to switch (twice for each image) from Library to Develop. Is there any way to do this? Is there a better workflow that I am missing?
I need the thumbnail view becasue I find the long ribbon useless. I come back with 400 pictures froma shoot and scrolling left and right in that ribbon is worse than useless: I get lost and it takes me more time that not doing it at all.
I am sure I am missing better ways to work. Any input appreciated.
    Michael

Cmd/Ctrl+F11 opens the second display window, which can be configured to show a Grid view. Clicking on a thumbnail in the second window opens that photo into Develop module.

Still wondering what tool is available in LR 1.1 to "view proof"
As in Photoshop CS 3, and previous versions of PS, in view I can

What tool is available in LR 1.1 to do the same?

  • Lighroom 5.4 Develop View does not update when changing sliders

Just updated to Lightroom 5.4 (using Adobe CC) on Win8. After going to "develop view" on any photo and changing the exposure or any other slider does not update the main view of the photo. It does however update the thumbnail in the film strip and the second monitor window correctly. I've tried everything I can think of:
    (1) downgrading to LR 5.3 (which used to work)
    (2) forcing 1:1 and standard preview regeneration
    (3) uninstalling the re-installing Lightroom (both 5.3 and 5.4)
    (4) Optimizing catalogue
    (5) Removing the Adobe AppData folder
    (6) Creating a brand new catalogue with zero photos, importing a single photo and trying to change exposure/contrast on that
None of these result in the develop view of the picture changing when I change the sliders.
Do you guys have any experience with this?

The chances of me suspecting monitor color profile causing bugs in LR was very slim. =)
So were mine, especially when only the view itself doesn't work, but all other stuff works fine. Well, I probably have really not good colour profile, luckly you can change it after the lr is launched - it won't cause the problem untill next restart (at least works for me). And hopefully once my calibrator arrives lr will work ok with its colour profiles..

  • After importing an image from cs5 back into lightroom, lightroom is making the image darker

Lightroom is making my images darker after i edit them in photoshop cs5 and I dont know why. When i open the image back into photoshop it looks fine. Even when i save it as a jpeg lightroom is making the image darker. When i imported the raw image into lightroom before i edited into photoshop it looked fine. Is there a way to fix lightroom?

    See screen shot:
Click on the two small triangles and under <Lightroom General Presets> select <Zeroed>. Sorry, it seems that the option <None> is not available anymore in Lr 4.3. But <Zeroed> has the same effect.
Alternatively, in the Develop Module, bottom right, just above the film strip click on <Reset>.  See screen shot:

  • Passing images to different views

    Hi all,
I am currently working on integrating the camera into an app I am developing (first time working with camera and images), and I am trying to pass images to different views. I have worked with passing text with text fields to labels using prepareForSegue methods, but have not come across any clear examples of tutorials on how to take a photo, and move that captured photo along to different views, pretty much the same as the instagram camera process (image below to illustrate).
    In short, my scenario is:
...launch camera from button on home screen, then take a photo (currently want to use AVcapture framework) which once photo is taken/captured is sent to a UIImageView in a second view to crop and overlay text over the image, then submit to feed. If anyone can provide some sample code that would be very much appreciated.
Thank you very much for any feedback.

    Hi Sethuraman,
This is not possible with current design of product as exploration views are combination of components from different information spaces.
You can raise an idea as stated above at www.ideas.sap.com

  • Only some pictures have preview images in 'Years' view

  • Loupe and Grid view rendering not as good as Develop view.

I recently see that while using LR 5.6 the images rendered in the loupe and grid views do not look nearly as good as the same image displayed in the develop view.  I have screen grabs if you'd like to see them below.  The Loupe and grid are not as saturated and the gradient in the sky is not nearly as smooth.  If I bounce between 'E' and 'D' it is pretty obvious.  Once in a while the 'E' (loupe) view looks the same.  I'm afraid that I will delete an image based on what I see in the Loupe or do unnecessary edits on an image.  When I exported to jpg, the images looked pretty good.
    Grid:
    Loupe:
    Develop:

As far as what could be contributing to a difference, other than an actual bug:
LR Previews are stored as AdobeRGB JPGs, so Library previews go from LR-Internal color profile to AdobeRGB to Display color profile, whereas Develop previews go directly from LR-Internal color profile to Display color profile.  If there are some colors that are outside of AdobeRGB then some conversion may occur.  The conversion to 8-bit JPG is also probably adding banding that Develop wouldn’t show.  There might also be Relative vs Perceptual color profile conversion differences occurring.  I don’t know the specifics of which is used for the Adobe color profile conversion and whether what you’re seeing is outside the expected variations.
If you view at less than 1:1/100% zoom, especially with Fit or Fill, then small details that vary across the group of original image pixels that are displayed as one display pixel can be averaged differently due to differences in the downsampling algorithms used between computing Library file previews and computing Develop display previews where Develop’s is built for speed because it occurs in real-time after every slider movement, where Library previews are computed in the background and so can use a more accurate resampling algorithm.  Usually this is only a difference in sharp/smoothness but it can also manifest as a difference in tone if there are lots of tiny noise spots getting averaged together inaccurately in Develop or more accurately in Library.
Since I can see only a tiny difference between Library and Develop on my monitor in this particular example, I can't imagine that small difference is enough to reject the Library version and accept the Develop version.  Maybe you're seeing others with more differences?

  • IWeb: changing the slideshow image scale and viewing time

I moved my iWeb sites over to another server (iPage) and went through the sites to observe for inconsistencies and problems.  While doing this, I noted that my image galleries, when placed into the slides show mode, were very small on my iPad 2 and that they cycled through at a very high speed.  I thought this was odd and I wondered if anyone else has observed the same thing?  It sounds to me that an HTML under-the-hood modification may be required or a bug fix to the iWeb code is in order, to change the sideshow image scale and viewing time/slide value.  Comments?  [I suspect that Apple does not hold iWeb bug fixes at or near to the top of its software development to-does priority list.  Sounds like I need to change web authoring software.]

Why do you think it's a bug?
    Anyway :
Is there any reason photos in an album page display small on the iPad, but normally on an iMac? And videos on a movies page don't play on the iPad, but are OK on the iMac?

  • Images in loupe view of library module of LR4 are not always focusing. Why?

  • Image orientation in viewer

Today I opened my Aperture 3.1, opened a project created a few days ago, and found that several of the images in the project were "sideways" and had the wrong orientation and where somewhat distorted. When the image is selected for large view, it appears correctly, and when closed goes back to the sideways orientation in the viewer. There are multiple images that act this way, while the rest seem to be fine / usual. Any ideas what may cause this "distorted view?" All the Exif data is there, manipulation is possible, and exportation of images works fine. The images are CR2 from a Canon DSLR, and there were no problems downloading.

I played around with the orientation manually, and found that if I change the orientation, the image would be correctly "orientated' in the lower part of the split viewer, but the actual image would be off by 90 degrees. I then reoriented the image back (sideways view in the bottom file-strip) and the large image would display correctly again, and, the bottom image corrected itself to the normal orientation. So, by changing each sideways image 90 degrees once and then back again, seems to "fix' the issue. Still not sure how I applied this feature.
