"Automatically update the original when the original comes back online"
So the .xmp file will be updated with any offline adjustments that were made?
If this is true, I don't think this functionality is working
The dates of my .xmp files do not get updated when I plug the external drive back in.

  • Saving Changes to your Photographs in Lightroom 3 | Adobe Evangelists - Julieanne Kost | Adobe TV

In this episode, Julieanne Kost will explain how changes made to photographs are saved automatically to the Lightroom Catalog. Then Julieanne will demonstrate how to use both the “Save Metadata to Files” command as well as the “Automatically write changes to XMP” Catalog Setting to push changes made to photographs from the catalog into individual files (or sidecar files) so that they can be read and utilized within additional applications such as Adobe Bridge.

When updating my jpeg file with metadata from Lightroom, does this in any way degrade the image in the jpeg file.  I understood that any changes to a jpeg will result in loss of image data and a corresponding degradation of the image.

After you make the blur over the full picture, you quickly switch to the gradient panel, but you say it so fast that I don't know what you pressed to get there. It sounds like you say tap the "g" key for gradient. But when I do that, the paint bucket tool appears. Help?

Julieanne Kost shows the best ways to take advantage of Adobe Lightroom’s Custom Sort Order feature in this Lightroom 2 tutorial.
    http://adobe.ly/y3dj94

This was helpful, Julieanne, however, I have one more question on custom sort order. I am trying to sort a Collection that is made up of photos from several different import files. It's a vacation collection where I have created a different file for each day of the vacation as well as by who took the photos. So i have a file for my daughter's shots, my shots, my son's, etc, to keep things organized. Now that i have selected the "best of" from each original import file, I have created a new User Collection where I am putting them all together. The problem is, my entire Collection won't sort. I want to sort them all by capture time, but LR keeps grouping them by the original file source, and only sorting by capture time within each group. Can you help?

Hello--When I use my adjustment brush with saturation set to -100, it is not taking out all the color from my photos.  Instead it adds a red hue.  Please advise as I would like to be able to selectively color my photos.

Julianne, I have photoshop CS5. It will not open my camera raw pictures from my new Nikon D5200 (2013) raw pictures. I? I love that you di am being told to upgrade to CS6. Do I have to? Scott Kelby suggest converting the files to DNG, but will that give full use of CS5 tools. And then I have to convert each picture at a time. Also should I get Lightroom? Isn't it enough to have CS5 which cost me tons of money.

  • Should I use Lightroom or Bridge? | The Complete Picture with Julieanne Kost | Adobe TV

In this episode of the Complete Picture, Julieanne Kost helps you decide which application is right for your workflow by explaining the differences between Lightroom and Bridge for managing images and assets.

Lightroom 4 supports Soft Proof capability that also lets you see an accurate histogram for different output RGB spaces. Lightroom 5 now also supports under 'Edit In' > 'Open As Smart Object in Photoshop.'
I agree the tutorial was excellent, thank you very much. I would just like to add that there is no reason why you can't use both Lightroom and Adobe Bridge for"digtal asset management." Keyword metadata added in LR can be written to the file or XMP sidecar using CTRL+S keys that will appear in Adobe Bridge and vice-versa. I do most of my InDesign layout image processing using LR, but keep track of ALL my project assests using Bridge. Keywords are added using BOTH applications with no issues to date.

This is great; I was just discussing the other day about what data gets saved with what file formats and how it actually gets saved.  My only confusion now is in the example given:  If you're a Lightroom user (as I am) why would you ever use Bridge?  Is there anything Bridge does that LR doesn't?

This is much more complicated than it need be - Adobe should make a Migrate command that moves the entire show. Users can then deselect options as to what to copy or simply copy wholesale. Don't you think?
