Lightroom 5 software on disc, but I've no disc drive!

I bought a Canon 5Diii recently and with it came with Lightroom 5 software on a disc (the main reason I bought the camera from Calumet in particular). However I work with the new mac which doesn't have a disc drive. I'm reluctant to buy one just for this job. Does anybody know if I can download the software online from adobe instead? I have registered the software to my name (using the serial number on the disc) on the adobe site, thinking that might allow me to download online, but I can't see any option to do so. I have a laptop with a disc drive which I could put the software onto and then try transferring it to my mac via a external hard drive perhaps?

The easiest way would be to download the trial version, and then use your existing serial number to activate. Or, if you have already downloaded the update to use to update your original installation, you could copy the file that you downloaded to a flash drive and use it on your other computer.

I purchased the student version of lightroom and used it on PC. Now just got macbook and would like to install on this but no disc drive on macbook. how can i download it and enter an activation key?

If you registered the license with Adobe, then you should be able to download the software from your "My Plans and Products" associated to you Adobe ID. Assuming you are logged in with your Adobe ID, try here:

Searched online and someone suggested downloading the LR trial, and set up Cloud, then can enter the serial number to complete the purchase. Which is what I did, but the serial number is being rejected.

Ok, maybe what they’re calling Creative Cloud is merely your Adobe ID, an e-mail and password to login with. The LR5 6 update link is probably what you want to download—all updates are downloads, anyway, so there’s no need to have a disc reader as long as you have internet and the serial number.

Another issue might be that what you think is a serial number is a redemption code that needs to be converted to a serial number using this website: http://www.adobe.com/go/getserial A clue that you have a redemption code is that it has letters and numbers. A serial number is just numbers and the first few are 1160-something.

I need to upgrade to iOSX 10.6 Snow Leopard but have a nonfunctional disc drive. Can I download the software or get it on my computer any other way?

I gave my 2010 iMac to my father but it has a nonfunctioning disc drive (cannot read any type of disc). It's operating on OS X 10.5 Leopard. We need to upgrade him to at least OS X 10.7 Lion, but judging by what I've read so far, we cannot do that without first installing OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. I cannot find a way to download OS X 10.6, and having the disc shipped is not an ideal option. Does anyone know of a way I can download a legit copy? Another option — though I'm not sure it'll work — is to order the OS X 10.6 disc, transfer the files from the disc to a USB key on my newer Macbook Pro, then bring it over to my dad and install it on his iMac from the USB key. Does anyone have experience with this who knows if it will work or not? Thank you!

I want to update my software but my disc drive is not functional, are there alternatives?

I have a Macbook Pro 5,3 that I would like to update, currently my Macbook runs on 10.5.8.
My main problem is that I can't purchase the update because my disc driver is not functional anymore(my only problem, Macbook otherwise is doing very well).
I have been to the store and they advised me to call, and now it seems like I need to pay 25,- pounds so I can get help over the phone which is a bit ridiculous to me.
Besides that, what would be the alternatives for me to install Snow Leopard and hopefully then update to the newest software for my Macbook?

Snow Leopard is available from Apple for $20. Since your current optical drive isn't working, you can pick up any number of USB external DVD drives cheap. In the U.S., many are available for under $20.
Once you have those, install Snow Leopard, and then update it to 10.6.8.

New Software but no disc drive :(

Just received a copy of photoshop and premiere when I purchased a new camera. Unfortunately, they came on discs and my laptop does not have a disc drive. Any way to download the software off of Adobe's website?

Bradyw22 you can copy the installation files to a USB drive on a computer which does contain an optical drive.

Uploading book to Blurb using Lightroom 5, rendereing is OK but gets stuck at uploading, will not complete.

I'm using Lightroom 5 loaded onto a Windows PC, 64 bit. I've cleared up disc space so that is not a problem.
Building the book is OK. But when I select the Send Book to Blurb button, it gets to about 60-70% complete but then stops.
The book is 154 pages and comprises mainly tiff files (originally exported from Nikon NX2), so file size is fairly large.
What are my options?

I had the same problen with Lightroom 5 - Prepares the files but won't Upload to Blurb. Tried numerours times. It is a Landscape size Book 132 Pages. There is a BUG in Lightroom and here is how I got it to work:
Check each slide and make sure APPLY BACKGROUND GLOBALLY, GRAPHIC or BACKGROUND COLOR and not checked,. If so Uncheck them.
Go to EDIT and SELECT ALL Slides in the Book.
Select Apply Background Globally - turn it off and on several times, then leave it off
Select GRAPHIC - turn it off and then turn it on and off several times
Select BACKGROUND COLOR - turn it on then off then on then off
I ended up with APPLY GLOBALLY unchecked for Every Page.
GRAPHIC was turned on with a Graphic set at 12% Opacity on every Page
Again check each page first for these Checkmarks or just fix exverything with SELECT ALL.
Background Color was Turned off.
NOW UPLOAD THE BOOK - It took a couple hours but it uploaded without a hitch., I turned off all Firewalls and Plugged directly into the Router. I am using an IMac 27" with 32 GB of memory and this is the only way it would work. The Mac is about 7 days old and Lightroom 5 is also 7 days old. BUGGIEST piece of software I have ever used.
Note - one of the above steps fixes the BUG - I am not sure which one but one will fix your book. It finally uploaded to BLURB today. It took a few hours though.

Correct. When you purchase devices, they would have stated the OS they needed to work, on the box. This can be overlooked, but it is very important to check when purchasing.
You current OS, is so old, that they technology build into the new devices, is not something your OS understands. It didn't exist when your OS was created, and therefore you need to upgrade the OS to work with the newer technology of these devices.

You don't need to have Lightroom 3 and 4 installed on your computer to install Lightroom 5. Just install Lightroom 5 and input your serial number for 3 in the previous version box and your serial number for 5 in the upgrade box.

Which Software Restore Disc?

For some reason, iMovie 3 has been acting up on my MDD. Launching each time gave me the interface for half a second, and then the whole LCD screen went black. I had to force quit. After trashing iMovie, I connected to my other MDD which runs iMovie OK, same version, and imported the application over to it, but I still get the same issue.
So I have 4 gray Software Install discs...one of which has iMovie on it. Can I do a custom install of just that app? And which disc might that be on? Also, what do you think the problem was in the first place? Something to do with a pref needing to trashed? Restarting didn't help.

I don't think it's going to help to reinstall, the copy of the APP should have worked.
Usually iMovie would be on a separate iLife Disc.
I think I'd try this...
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovie.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovie3.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

Solaris 10 software 5 disc ?

i've succeeded in installing solaris 10.
i am now stuck in a loop.
when starting up, the solaris install always starts and want the software 5 disk to continue.
i've put in every disk i have, but nothing seems to satisfy the installer so it can continue.
i received 3 disks from sun in the mail,
a sparc install, a x86 (which i used as i have a x86 machine) install and a developer install disc.
none of these will install, and i can do nothing but reboot and try again.
whats this software 5 disc it want?
if i choose to skip it, it gives me a reboot option, but never actually reboots unless i hit the on off switch on my machine.
can anyone give me some help?

I've had a very similar error this evening, but on 10/08.
I selected the OEM full (everything) option and the reboot button fails after CD5. Likewise, performed a halt. It rebooted from the disk image to install menus and asked me to insert CD2. Then it gave me a blank list of what it wanted to add, so I pressed back and custom install and found it wanted to install en_gb locale (previously selected by me). It then asked for CD3 and did the same ... and then CD4 and did the same ... and then the same on CD5. This time the reboot button did work ... and it's now installed ok.
If you've hit this bug it's worth going round again to CD5 ... just in case it does the same as above and works second time. Hope this of help to others finding this error.

I received Photoshop Elements 13 (disc install version, not download install version) as a gift, but do not have a disc drive on my HP Ultrabook. After entering redemption code to obtain the serial number I expected (apparently naively) to have the ability to choose a downloadable version of the product to begin installation. Does anyone know if there is a way to redeem this for a downloadable version?

the program is free. the serial number to activate is what costs money (and is what you hopefully received in that gift).
