  • Lightroom 3: Edit in Photoshop CS5 no longer saves a copy as TIFF for editing

    Hi,
I have Lightroom 3 (LR3) and Photoshop CS5 (non Extended) and Snow  Leopard on OSX.  Both LR3 and CS5 are filly updated.  CS5 updated with  Camera Raw 6.1.
On one day, when I tell LR3 to "Edit in Photoshop" it would save a copy  of the NEF with current LR3 settings as a TIFF and I can edit it in  Photoshop as a TIFF.  I would see a progress indicator in LR3 that show  it saving a copy as a TIFF.
The next day, this stopped working.  It goes directly to Photoshop and  opens the NEF itself.   It's is completely ignoring the LR3 settings in  External Handling tab.
Strangely, when I "save" this NEF in Photoshop, a TIFF is created back in LR3.  That threw me off completely from LR2.7
Has anybody encountered this?  Does LR3 skip telling you if you want to save as TIFF now if you have the latest LR and CS?
    Thank you.

What you describe as abnormal is how things are supposed to work:
If the RAW engines match (where LR3 and ACR 6.1 do), then LR just tells PS what the "conversion recipe" is and PS tells ACR to silently open it with that "recipe" so it doesn't have to be rendered to TIF or PSD on the way into PS.
If the RAW engine of PS (ACR's version) is too odl to understand all the LR adjustments then LR knows this and will render to an intermediate file on the way into PS.  This also happens if you use some other third-party photo-editor that can't use ACR to open the file.
On Windows, at least, there is a way to make LR render to TIF/PSD on the way into Photoshop, I fyou create a duplicate copy of the EXE and rename it to PhotoshopX.exe or some other name that LR doesn't recognize as Photoshop, then LR thinks it is a third-party editor and renders an intermediate file.
What might have happened is that you updated to ACR 6.1 or maybe PS 12.0.1 which caused LR to re-evaluate the Photoshop compatibility and it determined it was fully compatible and didn't render to an intermediate file on the way in.
Since Photoshop is a bitmap editor, it has to save as something other than the RAW file on the way out, and LR will see that Save occur and import it automatically.
    Does that all make sense?

  • Edits in Photoshop Elements 12 won't show up in Lightroom 5, edits in Photoshop Elements 12 won't show up in Lightroom 5

Everytime I Edit a photo in Elements 12 it won't save in Lightroom 5.5

That's because your Photoshop Elements edits aren't in the Lightroom catalog. If you modify an image in Photoshop Elements without sending it from Lightroom, there should be a little icon on the image indicating that the files don't match. You can, to read the adjustments from the disk.
Basically, you are running your workflow backwards. You should start in Lightroom, and then choose to "Edit in Photoshop Elements". Lightroom will send the image to Elements, and when you are finished in Elements the edited version should be in Lightroom.

  • LightRoom to Edit in Photoshop to email

I love the Lightroom Email Photo feature.
This post is just a tip >>
There is a Photoshop Extension - Adobe Emailer [FREE] which can email photos direct from PS
If you Edit in Photoshop from LR and are in a hurry to email you can do so from PS before you close back to LR.
OutLook - Outlook Express and Thunderbird are supported.

  • No new PSD file in Lightroom after Edit in Photoshop

As usual, I send a NEF from LR 5.6 to Photoshop CC2014 (ProPhoto RGB) but a new PSD shows up in LR after saving/closing in PS? (Mac)

Lightroom works in a completely different way than Photoshop or other pixel editing programs. In order for you to edit that PSD file has to be imported into the Lightroom catalog. It might be to your advantage to just use Photoshop, if you have it, because understanding how Lightroom works is essential in order for you to be effective.
If the PSD file has a text layer, you will not be able to access It separately using Lightroom. Lightroom does not use layers, and you cannot work with text like you do in Photoshop. I just believe, based on what you have told us, that Lightroom is probably not a good choice for this particular project.

  • Returning images to Lightroom after edit in Photoshop?

    Hello,
When I export a raw file from LR to Photoshop CS2, as a 16bit Prophoto tiff, it opens with LR's develop settings applied. However, after I have saved the image in Photoshop, when I close the file and revert back to the LR Library the image arrives back in LR with a completely different exposure and histogram? Is this normal? What has happened to the development settings that were applied in LR? My Photoshop working space is Prophoto 16bit.
    Thank you,
    J.

Thanks folks. John, I was using 'Edit in CS' not the 'Export' button. Sorry I didn't make that clear. My problem was that after I closed the photoshopped file LR was applying an "auto tone adjustment" to the new image as soon as it popped up in the LR Library. The adjusted image looked terrible and I had to readjust the develop settings in Lightroom for a second time.
At Jao's suggestion I went into LR's Preferences/Presets and unchecked the 'Apply Auto Tone Adjustments' box.
    Works just fine now. :o)

  • Edit in Photoshop CS5 Not Seamless

With Lightroom 2 and Photoshop CS4, when you would select "Edit in Photoshop CS_ " the image would automatically open in Photoshop without passing through Camera Raw first.
Now, with LR 3 and PS 5 whenver I cmd+e (edit in photoshop) an image, I get the Open dialog in Photoshop.
How can this be fixed? Is there a setting I have overlooked?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
I recently updated from PS CS4 to PS CS5 and Lightroom 2.7 to Lightroom 3.
Everything went smoothly and i'm very happy overall.
The only problem that i'm having is that now in Lightroom the "Edit in Photoshop" is greyed out.
I can still edit in Photoshop if i use it as an "another external edit program", but my question is how do i get the two programs aware again of each other?? So i can edit in photoshop as a smart object again. I updated ACR to the latest version.
    Thanks

  • Can't use "Edit in Photoshop" for RAW images

I can't get Lightroom's "Edit in Photoshop" feature to work for CR2 RAW files (from Canon Rebel T2i).   I've installed the latest Camera Raw update, and Photoshop can open the RAW files.  However, when I use "Edit in Photoshop" within lightroom, Photoshop (CS5) opens, but then nothing happens.
Previous threads have mentioned this issue, but none gives a solution that worked for me.  One user reported rebooting as the solution; other solutions involved trashing the preferences files for Photoshop and Lightroom.  I've tried those, but no luck.   The "Edit in Photoshop" feature does work for JPEG files.
Any further ideas?  I'm using Lightroom 3, CS5, and Mac OS (Snow Leopard).

found the answer on another thread and it works!

  • Lightroom 3.6 to photoshop CS4

I used to use Lightroom 2, a Canon 450D and Photoshop CS4.  i had no problem using Lightroom, Photo/Edit in Photoshop to open and work with my images in photoshop.  i then upgraded to Lightroom 3.6 and now use a Canon 60D camera and still use Photoshop CS4.  When i click Photo/Edit in Photoshop now, Phoshop CS4 opens but the image doesn't appear.  What can i do to rectify this?

OK things have change here. I expect you are working with raw files from your camera.
With LR 2 and PSCS4 the ACR version are in sync i.e. LR uses the equivalent of ACR 5.x and PSCS4 uses ACR 5.x.
Now LR 3.6 has the equivalent of ACR 6.6 and PSCS4 is using ACR 5.x. Since the ACR versions are not in sync you should get a warning dialog indicating that the ACR version needs to be updated in PSCS4 but this is not possible. If you are not seeing a warning dialog you need to do the following in Lightroom 3.6 go to  Edit>Preferences>General Tab> click on "Reset all warning Dialogs". You should now see a warning dialog when you select Edit in PSCS4. You should choose "edit a copy with Lightroom adjustments". This will make Lightroom create a tiff file with your adjustments and send this to CS4. ACR in PSCS4 cannot process the LR 3.6 develop settings.

  • "Edit in Photoshop CC" opens Photoshop but shows no Image!

Whenever I open photos from Lightroom (that already have lightroom adjustments) edit in Photoshop CC only opens Photoshop but does not open the image.
If I open Images with "Edit in Photoshop" that DO NOT HAVE Adjustments, the image will open up in Photoshop correctly.
This is very annoying. I just came from Windows to Mac and im getting frustrated with all the Problems I encounter with Mavericks and Photoshop!

Try removing the preference file: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/preference-file-locations-lightroom-41.html

I've just installed upgrades to move up to Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5 (on Vista). In Lightroom, the edit in Photoshop menu choices are all grayed out as not available. I have searched for a way to to turn on Photoshop editing in Lrightroom but cannot find it. How do I get Lightroom to make Photoshop editing available? Thanks!

  • Unable to use "Edit in Photoshop"

I am using Lightroom 3 on my Mac.  I have been unable to switch from Lightroom to "Edit in Photoshop" when I go to the  "Photo" menu - the words are just not highlighted.  I have tried to access this through Library and Develop. What am I not doing right?  Thanks

If you have PSE installed, you should get the option "Edit in Adobe Photoshop Elements ..." in the context menu.
    If not I would re-install PSE8.
