Lightroom 5, Topaz b & W, Elements 13

When I attempt to edit in Topaz or Elements, Lightroom gives a message that says Unable to prepare file and will not open.  This does not happen on all files.  My computer is Windows 7.  Can't figure out what I am doing wrong.  I have searched every blog I can find.

Are you on a Mac or a PC?  The images below are for a Mac.  The first is what I see from the Photo menu; sorry, but I do not have PSE, I do have PSCC and PSCC 2014.  If you do not see PSE in the list, you can add it by going to LR Preferences>External Editing.  In the middle of the panel, click the Choose button.  You will then have to navigate to the exe file for PSE.  On a PC, it would be C-Drive>Program Files> Adobe Photoshop Elements.  In that folder find the exe file that opens PSE.  Name the preset something like PSE 13, select the other options and you should be set.  As you can see in my first image, I have set presets for onOne PPS9 and CS6.  If you are confused as to what exe file is correct, you can go to the short-cut on your desktop (I am assuming that you have one) right click on it and select properties, it should show you the target path and file.  That would be the same file you need to navigate to and Choose.

  • Integration between Lightroom 4.2 and PS Elements 11.0

I am using Lightroom 4.2 and PS Elements 11.0. Clicking "Edit in" in LR  when I have selected at least two photos, I get as bottom menu item "Open as layers in Photoshop...". When selecting this item PS Elem. nicely starts up but after waiting for a while no layers are created. Same applies to the HDR and Panorama options. The only LR menu item working is the one moving to the PS Elem editor sec. After carrying out editing of the file(s) in PS Elem and saving (as) there is only the option to include the edited file in the PS Elem catalog (while the version set option is "greyed out"). In the normal Photoshop (CS versions) the edited file is nicely included in the LR catalog. I now have to follow a cumbersome route by importing the file from within LR. Another issue is when 16 bit files are loaded into Elements; there is no warning that layers can only be generated/worked on  in 8 bit mode.
Yet another, small LR issue, is that when in library mode moving from the center thumbnail grid/pane to the left Navigator, etc and right Histogram, etc. panes, the cursor changes into a double headed arrow passing the separation line and but does not turn back into the cursor (mode). Only moving fast through the separation line or "going over the top" passing along the top menu items helps
Obviously anyone with some suggestion as how to solve/circumvent the issues above?

Photoshop Elements does not support layes with 16-bit files. Additionally, there is no HDR function in Photoshop Elements. You should be getting an error letting you know this is the case when you try from Lightroom.
These menu options are designed to be used with Photoshop, not Photoshop Elements and would normally be greyed out. Have you had a version of Photoshop install previously? When looking at the Edit In menu, what does it say at the top? Does it say "Open in Adobe Photoshop Elements..."?
Saving the file should automatically import it into Lightroom, even if you use the option to add it to the Elements Organizer as well.
As for the cursor not changing back to normal after crossing over the panel dividing line (which allows you to grow or shrink the panels) is rather curious.
All of these issues could be caused by corrupt settings files. Deleting these while the applications are closed will cause them to be recreated at next launch (with default settings). I would suggest doing this will all Adobe preferences (not just PSE and LR). Where they are stored depends on what OS you are working on.

  • After changing my mac mini 2009 with a mac mini late 2012, and using Time machine for the reinstallation, Lightroom is operational but Photoshop elements is said to have a license no more valid (code error 150:30). I tried all solution I found to no avail

After changing my computer from a mac mini 2009 to a late 2012 version, all reloaded with Time machine, Lightroom works fine but Photoshop elements refuses to start (error code 150:30; "license no more valid"...). No solution found on the internet works. Any advice ? possibility to reload the application (I have kept the number of license etc.) ? Thanks in advance to anyone who could help.

Alain Picard this error often occurs due to incorrect file permissions or corruption of licensing data during the Time Machine restore.  What version of Photoshop Elements were you using?  I would recommend that you remove and reinstall it using the uninstaller located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder.

  • Using lightroom 5.6 and Photoshop elements 12

When I am using Lightroom 5.6 and want to Edit In Photoshop the picture transfers over to PS but it won't allow me to use layers.  How can I fix this?

Usually that means that lightroom sent over the photo in 16 bits/channel and you want 8 bits/channel in order to use layers in photoshop elements.
After you open the image from lightroom into photoshop elements you can go Image>Mode and click on 8 bits/channel
or in the Lightroom Preferences (Edit)>External Editing set the Bit Depth to 8 bits/component

  • Can not open Lightroom 5 image in Photoshop Elements 12

I just purchased PSE 12. In Lightroom 5, I can set up an Edit in Photoshop Elements preset.
When I try to edit a .dng or .cr2 raw image in PSE from Lr5, the first dialog I get asks if I want to edit a copy with Lr adjustments. Then PSE opens but no file(s) are loaded.
If I open the file directly from PSE 12, it will open (with Lr5 adjustments)... but that's not the point.
Any ideas on getting the Lightroom 5 --> PSE 12 workflow to operate properly?

I don't want to seem flippant, but that's exactly what I did - Actually I set up 2 presets here (one for Adobe RGB & one for sRGB).
As I stated previously, I set these up on 2 different computers (a MacPro and a MacBook Pro), each computer running a different version of OS-X (Lion & Mavericks, respectively).
I have successfully set up several external editors using various stand-alone programs - they all still work -- with the exception of Photoshop Elements 12.

  • Cannot edit lightroom 2 photo in photoshop elements 9, help please.

I am using OS 10.6.5. I have Lightroom 2.7 installed and I just purchased Photoshop Elements 9. I am trying to edit my Lightroom photos in Elements by going to the menu, selecting photos and then the Edit In, but I am not able to select any of the options as they are grayed out. I have uninstalled and re-installed both programs and that has not helped. Any suggestions?  Let me know if more info is needed.
    Thanks,
    Sam

Please repost in the Lightroom or Photoshop elements forum.

  • Edits in Photoshop Elements 12 won't show up in Lightroom 5, edits in Photoshop Elements 12 won't show up in Lightroom 5

Everytime I Edit a photo in Elements 12 it won't save in Lightroom 5.5

That's because your Photoshop Elements edits aren't in the Lightroom catalog. If you modify an image in Photoshop Elements without sending it from Lightroom, there should be a little icon on the image indicating that the files don't match. You can, to read the adjustments from the disk.
Basically, you are running your workflow backwards. You should start in Lightroom, and then choose to "Edit in Photoshop Elements". Lightroom will send the image to Elements, and when you are finished in Elements the edited version should be in Lightroom.

  • Is Lightroom 5.6 compatible with Elements 9?

I would like to take NEF files from Lightroom 5.6 into Elements 9 to merge into a Panorama.
But the option Merge to Panorama in Photoshop is not available.  I am using the path:  Photo > Edit in > ....

I think that only works with Full Photoshop. But you can choose Edit In Photoshop Elements Editor (see image below) and LR will render copies. It’s probably best to choose 8 bit PSD rather than tiff as the files will be more efficient in elements. When all the images show up in the elements project bin use:
File >> New >> Photomerge Panorama
Then click the button “Add Open Files”

  • Lightroom 5 - externer Editor: PS Elements 12

  • Using Lightroom 3.2 After installing Elements 12

Some software called iLivid was a common theme in many of the cases of that error.  Other than that, who knows!

  • Transferring photos from Lightroom 5 to Adobe Photoshop Elements 12

I have over 4k photos installed On Lightroom 5. I recently purchased and installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 12. Can you please
advise easiest way to export photos from Lightroom to Photoshop? Am having significant difficulty. Thanks

You can't do it that way. Any attempt to poke around in the iphoto library from outside iphoto is very likely to damage the library and cause you to lose your photos, so PSE won't let you. You have two choices:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor, send the photos from iphoto, and save them without changing the name or format (you may need to adjust the editor prefs>Saving Files>On First Save to let you do this). Then iphoto will remember your original and the last edited version.
Be sure to choose this file in Applications>Adobe Photoshop Elements 10>Support files as your external editor, not the one at the top level of the PSE 10 folder in Applications:
    2. Export the photos from iphoto, use File>Open in the PSE editor to open the images and then save them with whatever changes to name or format you like, and reimport the saved images to iphoto as new files. This way you can save as many versions as you like.

  • Lightroom imported and  upgraded my elements catalog I  have the metadata and no pictures

I have photoshop elements currently and have decided to upgrade to lightroom 3.4. So I  downloaded the trial version anxious to try it, during the installation I was asked about upgrading my catalog  from elements.... sure I'm going to be using lightroom mostly from now on anyway, so I did this and started lightroom ready to play. What I found was this.... light room found all my photo's but says there is no picture to display. I can click on any "blank tile"(I'm not sure what you call them) on the screen that shows the picture name and I get the metadata for the picture but no picture. figuring the problem must be with myself I then tryed my other computer, a laptop that is not long for this world and soon to be replaced and the program works!!! ??  As I said the laptop is dying and only works when it wants to,but both my machines are running vista32bit, same photo's the only thing is different is I store my photo's on my desktop's external harddrive. So thinking that could be the problem I stored them main hard drive still no luck I also tryed reinstalling the program, reupgrading the catalog.
The little bit of lightroom I have played with; (on the laptop when it works) I 've got to have this program!!! only I can't get it to work.
    help!!!
    Mike

I'm guessing here, but it could be the external HD is referenced differently by Elements and by Lightroom.
In Lightroom, go to the folder panel on the left and see what letter drive Lightroom thinks the photos are located on. Then go to Windows and see if this drive has the same letter. If the letters don't match, then the solution is relatively simple (I think), you need to change the drive letter in Windows to match what Lightroom thinks it should be (although this *could* screw up the Elements Catalog, if you will still be using it). An alternative solution is to tell Lightroom that the photos are on a different drive, by going to the top level folder in Lightroom, right clicking on it, and select Find Missing Folder and point it to the proper location of the photos.

  • Lightroom doesn't recognize PS Elements 6?????

I have been using Lightroom 1.3.1 and PS Elements 4 with good compatibility. Now upgraded to PS Elements 6 and Lightroom doesn't recognize the program when I try to go from Lightroom to PSE6. The drop-down menu under "photo" in the Develop module has the command "edit in Photoshop" grey and not functioning.
I know that there is a fix mentioned to add photoshop itself but I need to add photoshop Elements. Any suggestions?

  • Why Are Lightroom File Sizes Smaller Than Elements Equivalents?

I have been struggling to get good quality thumbnail sized images at small enough file sizes for a website. The only problem is that the versions I have done through Lightroom via the Web Module using the Flash template, will only allow a maximum width size of 191 pixels, whereas I'm looking to achieve 250 pixels wide. Doing it through Elements image resize box gets me the size I want, but for a decent quality, the file size is much larger.
Out of curiosity and for comparison, I made the Elements versions the same dimensions as the Lightroom ones. In order for the file sizes of the Elements ones to come even close and yet not as small as the Lightroom versions, I had to reduce the Jpeg quality to zero. This rendered them unusable.
I can't understand why two related applications doing exactly the same thing can differ so wildly. Can someone tell me what is going on?

    Hmmm??
    Not To Sure??
But I will try to find out..
    Keep you posted about that.

  • Lightroom 3 S&T or Elements 9?

I purchased my first DSLR about two weeks ago and am looking to purchase a photo editing software program.
I have narrowed it down to either Elements 9 or Lightroom 3 Student and Teacher Edition.
For now I will typically be shooting in JPEG but may in the future move to RAW when I learn all the ins and outs of my camera.  My T2i came with: Digital Photo Pro, EOS Utility, Zoombrowser, Picture Style Editor.
Which of the two would you advise me to purchase?
    Thanks for any advice.

I never answer these questions directly because I don't know your  level of computer and photographic knowledge, nor do I know exactly what  types of editing and cataloging/organizing you would like to do.
The  best answer I can give you is to download the 30-day free trial of both  software programs, and see which one you like. Spend 30 days with PSE,  then spend another 30 days with Lightroom. And, to start out, find some  tutorial videos for each (use Google) so you don't try to learn these  package entirely on your own. Then you can make your own decision.
