Lightroom 5 upgrade killed my workflow. What options are left for importing by reference from a flash card?

I just upgraded from Lightroom 1 to Lightroom 5.
I no longer see the option ~"Import from disk"
The application just magically decides what I am importing from.
Unfortunately, this used to be my workaround for keeping my workflow streamlined.
The import from disc option would allow me to import my flash card by reference
into a temporary catalog that would be active only until a full flash card
was archived. This temporarily catalog was used to delete rejects from my
flash card in a Lightroom-leveraged fashion. Once the latest photo update
on the card was clean, I would import by copy into a permanent catalog.
This meant:
-Always two copies of images once I got back to base
-Ability to leverage develop tools in determining rejects
-No having to make a list of rejects and then deleting them separately
on the camera or through the OS
I see no way to do this with Lightroom 5 and Mac OS X.
I understand the problem might be coming from the OS change that happened
at the same time, but since ~"import from disk" is no longer in the menu, I am
suspecting the change is from the application itself.
I could probably find out the answer to my question through a bunch of experimenting,
but I thought I would float the question in an attempt to save time.
I'm not sure if I can run two versions of Lightroom at the same time on a Mac OS X
machine, but If I can, is this the only way to maintain my workflow?

"we have serious concerns about customers accidentally importing referenced files from a card that is subsequently reformatted in the camera"
I understand. So bury the option under the, "Only use if you really know what you are doing. You could destroy everything." heading, Or even as an external file of settings for people who know what they are doing. The point is this has forced me to take a step backward in my workflow which was already a workaround from what I really wanted. Ideally I have wanted all along:
-Import from flash card to main catalog by copy *and* a special-use link back to the flash card file for each image in the catalog
-When deleting rejected photos from the catalog, I would have a third option to delete rejected photos from the flash card.
This way, I avoid not only the new problems created by the Lightroom 5 upgrade, but I would be reducing my imports from two to one. With a slow USB connection, there were advantages in only importing by reference on the first import, but since things tend to run faster these days, I think I would come out ahead overall now.

  • Newbie: Drums. What options are there for drums?

    Hi there,
I'm having fun with Logic Express. I can play most instruments I need, but not drums. I've never played drums.
I don't have much money to spend of it.
Searching through previous threads, I found references to the following drum loop companies:
    Drums on Demand:
    http://www.drumsondemand.com/
    BetaMonkey:
    http://www.betamonkeymusic.com/
Drums from H*ll (Hehee, the forum edited that word!):
    http://www.drumsfromhell.com/homeofdrumloops.html
I already purchased Apple's Jam Pack Rhythm Section. I was a somewhat disappointed in it, because it contains a little bit for everyone, and one or two loops for every style in the world, but not much of what I want.
I guess I want more slow-tempo rock. But not necessarily "soft rock". I like things to rise and fall in volume in a dramatic way, but not stay soft like a ballad, nor head-banging fast.
I haven't listened to Drums On Demand, but I'm a bit afraid their "soft" disk might be full of soft dreary ballads, and their "heavy" disk might be full of really fast head-banging stuff.
Maybe I'll still go with something like Drums On Demand. But the problem with loop disks seems to be that you will buy many loops that you will never use. And maybe, hopefully, find a few that are good. Pity they're not previewable online, and downloadable online.
What about MIDI loops? Is it possible to purchase MIDI loops and then just apply them to a standard drum kit in Logic Express?
I figured a MIDI file would be more editable. I could use an existing beat, and then add some extra drum or cymbal smashes to make it fit my music better.
Or should I just learn to make my own MIDI loops? I have a good sense of rhythm for other instruments. Would it be possible to apply this to drums easily, and play them on a keyboard? Having not played real drums, I am afraid I would not know how to get the feel of a real kit.
    Thanks for your info.

Tofu Mouse, if you ever do consider the more expensive options, take a good and hard and long look at EZdrummer. My band is using it to avoid having to pay for studio time every time we want to record drum tracks (we record the rest of our instruments + my vocals in our own studio, with very good results, but we don't have the equipment to record our own drums), and even without our drummer present, we are able to lay down our drum parts quickly.
I should mention that the drum arrangements our drummer composes and plays are extremely advanced (he is a schooled jazz, rock and metal drummer, so he is both very technical and very varied in his playing), but thanks to EZdrummer and Logic's brilliant hyper editor, we can usually replicate him even if he isn't present just by listening to low quality live recordings of him playing the actual songs. So far, the only people who have been able to hear that our drums are digital, are the ones who know that our own drumset could never yield so good sound quality as the EZdrummer samples do (The "Human Playing" button in EZdrummer is everyone's friend, ensuring that the drum beats never sound to artificial or perfect)
And this is probably one of the most advanced ways to use of EZdrummer. If all you want to do is lay down drum parts for home-written material, the included drum loops and the hyper editor will make that extremely easy for you.
Good luck, whatever peculiar drum tool you end up with

  • Which options are available for Encryption of data in Standard edition

    Hi,
We are implementing a DMS at one of our client location.
We are using SharePoint standard edition to implement DMS and also the SQL version is Standard edition.
Please let us know what options are available for encryption in Standard SQL version.
    Regards,
    Mohammed Khateeb

You can use cell-level encryption by the various EncryptByXxxx function. But that assumes that you are writing the SQL code yourself, and you seem to have Sharepoint. Maybe you should ask in a Sharepoint forum what is possible in the realm of Sharepoint.
It also helps if you have an understanding of why you want to encrypt. That is, what do you want to protect yourself against?

I am testing a Sony a7r, shooting RAW.  I can't seem to import the files (which are .awr) into my Lightroom 4. Anybody know what options I have?  Thanks!

Support was added by Adobe for this camera model in LR 5.3 and ACR 8.3. see the link below.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
You can download the latest trial version of LR 5 the current version is 5.7.1 and use tor 30 days.
The other option is to download the latest Adobe DNG Converter (version 8.7.1) for free and convert the Sony .arw files to dng format and they will work fine with LR 4.
Make sure you retain the original copies of the .arw files.

  • What updates are available for Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L30)?

What updates are available for Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L30)?

Before embarking on a major OS upgrade, it would be wise, advisable and very prudent if you backup your current system to an external connected and Mac formatted Flash drive OR externally connected USB, Thunderbolt or FireWire 800, Mac formatted hard drive. Then, use either OS X Time Machine app to backup your entire system to the external drive OR purchase, install and use a data cloning app, like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, to make an exact and bootable copy (clone) of your entire Mac's internal hard drive. This step is really needed in case something goes wrong with the install of the new OS or you simply do not like the new OS, you have a very easy way/procedure to return your Mac to its former working state.
Then, determine if your Mac meets ALL minimum system install requirements.
Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard system requirements
    Purchased Installer disc here.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
To install Snow Leopard for the first time, you must have a Mac with:
    An Intel processor
An internal or external DVD drive, or DVD or CD Sharing
At least 1 GB of RAM (additional RAM is recommended)
A built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
At least 5 GB of disk space available, or 7 GB of disk space if you install the developer tools
Installing and updating OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard to OS X 10.6.8 gives your Mac access to the Mac App Store where you can decide which version of OS X to upgrade to, again, if you desire.
    OS X Lion system requirements
    Purchased emailed download code here.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
To use Lion, make sure your computer has the following:
An Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
Mac OS X v10.6.6 or later to install via the Mac App Store (v10.6.8 recommended)
7 GB of available disk space
    2 GB of RAM
To install OS X  10.8 Mountain Lion or OS X 10.10 Yosemite.you need one of these Macs:
OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion purchased emailed download code here.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
    MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
2 GB or more of memory (I strongly advise, at least, 4 GBs of RAM or more)
8 GB or more of available space.
Your year and model Mac can take a total of 6 GBs of RAM, max..
I strongly suggest you install the max. RAM your Mac can take.
Correct, compatible and reliable Mac RAM can ONLY be purchased from online RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
OWC is the only source for the  6 GB RAM kit.
    Next,
If you run any older Mac software from the earlier PowerPC Macs, then none of this software will work with the newer OS X versions (10.7 and onward). OS X Snow Leopard had a magical and invisible PowerPC emulation application, called Rosetta, that worked seamlessly in the background that still allowed older PowerPC coded software to still operate in a Intel CPU Mac.
The use of Rosetta ended with OS X Snow Leopard as the Rosetta application was licensed to Apple, from a software company called Transitive, which got bought out, I believe, by IBM and Appe  could no longer secure their rights to continue to use Rosetta in later versions of OS X.
So, you would need to check to see if you have software on your Mac that maybe older than, say, 2006 or older.
Also, check for app compatibilty  here.
    http://roaringapps.com/
If you have any commercial antivirus installed and/or hard drive cleaning apps installed on your Mac, like MacKeeper, CleanMyMac, TuneUpMyMac, MacCleanse, etc. now would be a good time to completely uninstall this apps by doing a Google search to learn how to properly uninstall these types of apps.
These types of apps will only cause your Mac issues later after the install of the new OS X version and you will have to completely uninstall these types of apps later.
Once you have determined all of this, you should be able to find the latest versions of OS X by clicking on the Mac App Store icon in the OS X Dock and then login to the Mac App Store using your Apple ID and password and using the appropriate download codes need
You can then begin the download and installation process of installing your desired versions of OS X  from the Mac App Store.

  • Determining what views are created for certain structure

    Hi!
I need to create some views to structure in Development system as it is done in Production system already. It is something like manual transfer of structure and it's views from Production to Developement system (special case).
My question is this: how to determine what views are created for certain structure?
    Will reward,

Use 'Where-used' list for that structure.
    Go to SE11.
    Enter the structure name.
click on the Where-used list button in the toolbar.
Select the applicable options. (In your case 'Views')

    Hi Folk's
Anybody know what size are the screw's to keep place the Airport card? as I got a card here that I've had sitting around and now I've set up wireless network that reach out to where my Mac Pro is located but I don't have any screw that fit arrgh !

    Subcoustic

    Hi,
I purchased an Apple MB988ZM/A Airport Extreme Wireless Upgrade Kit for my 2.93GHz 8-Core 2009 Nehalem Mac Pro a couple of months ago.
The kit includes 2 screws inside a transparent pack. The description on the pack reads:
    "HH111009 603-9823-A Assembly Screws China".
The screws are approximately 4.5mm in overall length, of which about 3mm is the thread.
The thread appears to be fine, and the round head of the screw takes a Philips 00 screwdriver tip.
I have checked one of the screws with my "screw gauge" (I am a very keen DIYer!), and its diameter measures 1.5mm.
    Hope this helps.

Any one know what we should be watching for as far as what is too hot?
    I have a ThinkStation D10.
Did not see this in the user manual but could have missed it.

    I found my specs:
    Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU           E5405  @ 2.00GHz
You are correct. An E series.
I was so focused on the upgrade to the X5420 that I forgot what the system came with.
So what should I set my sensor high value to on my sensor program that shows up on the panel (taskbar)?
For the E5405 or the X5420?
SIDE NOTE: where can I get 2 E5420s or better cheap?
Not ready to give up my filters just yet. I live in a dust factory!
My girl friend sews really nice bags but creates sewing dust and fuzz.
And well there are natural fibers everywhere...
    So other than the the X5492 (150watts),  the X5482, X5472,  X5470, X5460, X5450 are all 120 watts.
Like the bulk of the X series...
    The E5405, E5410, E5450, E5440, E5420, E5430, E5470, E5462, E5472 are all 80 watts.
The L series seems to all be 50 Watts.

    Hi Vinay,
    1. For DP_PROC_TY  you need to give the transaction type or R/3 document type you want to use for creating direct material POs. Could be ECDP given in the standard or copy of which you might  have created.
    2. For CT_PROC_TY it is either PCTR or GCTR depending what you want to create local contract or GOA.
    3. TEND_TYPE can have BID, RFCR etc depending on what type of bid invitaion you want to create form sourcing cockpit or as follow on bid invitaion.
