I currently have Lightroom version 3 which I brought a wile ago on discs which I have installed on 3 separate machines. If I upgrade to version 5 via an online download will I be able to update all 3 machines with the same purcgase?

    I upgraded my Lightroom 4 to lightroom 5 , but by a mistake i used the serial number from my lightroom 3 upgrade disc, so now i have Lightroom 5 without the Lightroom 4 futures and i miss all my work from lightroom 4.
    Is it possible to re-upgrade.

    The Lightroom 5 installation does not change your previous installations in any way.  If you had Lightroom 4 on your computer, all you have to do is (from the Lightroom 5 menu) choose File/Open Catalog and then browse to your Lightroom 4 catalog and choose it.  Lightroom 5 will inform you that it needs to be updated and when you choose to do so it could take anywhere from 20 minutes to several hours to complete.  It depends on the size of your catalog.
    And, just to clarify, the only thing Lightroom 5 needs from your previous version is the serial number.  It does not depend on the previous version for any other files.  It will read and adopt your preferences, but that is all.  So if the program indicates that you are using Lightroom 5 there is no need for you to try to update again.  You have the program.

    Calmc what error message do you receive when you try to open Photoshop Lightroom?  Also which operating system are you using?
    Also if you wish to download a copy of Lightroom 5 you can download the installation files from http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop_lightroom&promoid&promoid=DT EML.  You will be prompted to enter your serial number when you open the software.

    not a stupid question and the answer is no, you do not need to install lr4 in order to install your lr 5 upgrade.
    when you enter your lr 5 serial number, it will be recognized as an upgrade serial number.  the installation program will check your computer for lr 4.  after failing to find it you will be prompted for your lr 4 serial number.  enter it and you should be good.

  • My Lightroom 5 upgrade serial number not showing up on My Products page; chat support useless

    I purchased a Lightroom 5 upgrade license on July 25th.  I didn't receive a confirmation email but my serial number was displayed on the order summary page after purchase.  I tried registering the serial number repeatedly through the My Products page but for some reason the serial number wasn't showing up, even though the registration process reported a successful result.  Furthermore, Adobe products bought from the Adobe store should automatically be registered according to Adobe's web site.  Apparently this must have failed.  I need to reinstall Lightroom 5 but the serial number is still not showing up on the My Products page.  I just spent an extremely frustrating hour with Adobe "Live" chat who did nothing but send me in circles and repeat the same canned responses over and over again.
    I'm currently on hold with "phone support" but I'm not optimistic as I've been on hold for 28 minutes.  The only other support option was a link to this forum, hence this post.  Hopefully someone from Adobe can retrieve my serial number and contact me.  Failing this my only other option will be to contact VISA and open a claim.

    OK, I was able to recover my previous system's image and thankfully it appears you can get the serial number from Help->System Info.  I attempted to register the serial number again via the My Products page and while it indicated that the registration was successful, we'll see.  At least I should be able to install LR5 on my new machine now.
    Edit:  I also just discovered that the serial number is listed under My Orders, but not under My Products.  Weird.  In my defence , I never thought to check My Order history because I never received a confirmation email and the order wasn't listed after purchase...even as late as mid-August (when I last checked.)  Very strange but it's all good now.
    Edit #2: OK now I just feel silly.  I just received an email from Naveen with an actual support case AND the correct serial number.  So, I stand corrected.  The Live Chat process still felt incredibly long with some seemingly canned/automated responses but, in all fairness, he did get back to me.  Thank goodness I washed both feet today...

  • Can I open Lightroom without upgrading my catalog?

    Unfortunately I'm not sure how to do a screen capture, so I'll try to type what I'm seeing.
    When I click on the LIghtroom icon, I get a message box that says "Please upgrade the catalog file "Lightroom Catalog 3" for use with Lightroom 3.  It continues "Lightroom will create a new catalog file in the destination indicated below.  The previews will also be moved to the location and converted for use in Lightroom 3"  Upgrade destination C:/Documents and Settings/...../Lightroom 3 Catalog-7.lrcat
    There is a button to choose a different catalog, upgrade or exit.
    When I open the button to change catalogs, it gives me one option, but when I click on it, I go back to the "Lightroom will create a new catalog"
    My concern with upgrading is that I've a workflow for the catalog that's at C:/Documents and Settings/..../Lightroom 3 Catalog-5.lrcat  Earlier today, I clicked on the dialog that resulted in a catalog at Lightroom Catalog-6.lrcat, but when I opened it, I'd lost all the listings for the Free Agent drive (usually G:/ where I do my daily uploads.  I could still see the external hard drive (E:) where I save edited work, but it indicated that I would have to locate all of the folders I'd created on the E: drive.  I saw only the default collections on the left hand side -- (smart collections, last month, etc.).
    I finally was able to get back to Lightroom 3 Catalog-5, which had all the work, but I'm not sure how to recover all my collections and folders if I Lightroom creates a new catalog at a destination that has a different number.  The problem is that now I can't seem to open Lightroom 3 at all -- when I click on Change, I don't see my catalog 5  in the default folder.  I know I found it once before, and it became an option on the pulldown menu.  But I don't want to have to keep finding it on the drive where I store it so I can keep my indexing and folder and catalog organization. 
    Lightroom 3 Catalog 5.lrcat works fine for me.  My default for backing up is whenever I close the program, so I'm confident in it's integrity.  How can I open Lightroom with the catalog that works for me --without getting messages that seem to force me to do an upgrade I don't want to do.

    back to the folder with my backups and opening Lightroom 3 Catalog-5.  I
    think I've tried to reconstruct my left side panel with earlier
    Lightroom 3 Catalog x versions.  I don't have all the collections and
    folders I had with my Lightroom 2 catalog.    That catalog seemed to
    have been corrupt when I moved to Lightroom 3.  I don't recall how I did
    it, but I guess I imported the photos and tried to start over with my
    collections.

    Hi Keith, sorry for my late reply.
    Surely I am able to connect to the help function when Icontact the website
    of AdobeLR5.The problem is as follows,
    When I open LR5 on my computer and work with it and try to open the help
    function in the software, I don't get it.
    When I bought the CD I was naiv enough to believe that I get an independent
    working software. I learned in the meantime, that the seller does not allow
    to work with, without being connected to them.
    I don't believe that I am paranoid, but I like to buy something and use it
    without to inform the supplier that I do it. Otherwise I could have bought
    the license fpr LR5 via internet.

    I am installing sap 4,7 ext: 110 in cluster formed with Windows 2003 enterprise and SQL enterprise 2000, the manual of sap says to me that it installs SQL of local way in the node a of cluster, later mind to install service pack 3 in the node a, later mind to install sap in the node a, after that requests to me that realise upgrade of SQL with the Upgrade option existing installation to a clustered installation but that option does not appear to me qualified

    Here is a short (not necessarily complete) list of Cluster Option Requirements
    - The SQL Server binaries are installed on a local non-
      shared drive (Only Node A).
    - The disc for the database files and the log file are
      belongs to the SQL Server Cluster Group (MSSQL).
    - On node B is no SQL Server with the same name (named
      instance name or default instance name ) installed.
      Check the registry on node B for the branches
      HLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server
       and
      HLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer
      Deinstall the SQL Server on node B, if it exists and
      delete the registry branches on node B, if they still
      exists.
    - The executing user for the setup has appropriate
      rights on both nodes
      (domain administrator).
    - The SQL Server database files (master, msdb, etc.) are
      on a shared disc.
    - Node B is available via private and/or public net.
    - The Cluster service is running on node A and on node B.
    - You are using the right CD (not mat.number 51011908)
      or have set the version by means of the .reg file
      sqlverfix.reg (see node 377430).
    - All needed discs (SQL DB, SQL Log, Quorum) are on
      node A.
    Please check all the requirements and run the cluster upgrade of SQL Server again.

    I seemed to download the Lightroom 5 upgrade just fine to my PC.  But nothing happens when I double-click the application in my downloads folder.  And there's no LR5 icon on my desktop.  Is there a trick to it?

    Please check the system requirement.
    Lightrrom 5 is only supported on Microsoft® Windows® 7 with Service Pack 1 or Windows 8.

  • Lightroom 4 upgrade extracting issues

    Hello,
    Recently purchased Lightroom 4 upgrade (download version). Currently using Lightroom 3.6 64bit.
    Downloaded successfully, but when tried to extract got this message:
    A. Checked to make sure, but I am logged in as Administrator
    B. Checked the write permissions for the destination folder (Desktop) and write permission is allowed.
    C. I have >30GB available on my SSD HD. I can't imagine it needs more space.
    Thoughts? What should i try next.

    Looked at the Temp folder and all folders appear to have write permissions enabled.
    Also only using MSE which I turned off and double checked to make sure Adaware wasn't running in the backround. No help. Still the same extracting issue.
    I am not sure about the SSD. I think it is rooted properly? Picture attached.
