Lightroom 5 with CS5 Suite

I use the CS5 Design Standard Edition.
Now I thought about using Lightroom additionally, and acquire it.
I have read that Lightroom works with Camera Raw in Version 8.
Camera Raw in version 8 can not be applied to CS 5. But I do not want to update my CS5.
What can I do now? Should I use a prior version of Lightroom? Proposals for solutions would be reuqested and very much appreciated.

Hi Christian,
You can have Lightroom 5 installed alongside CS5, but opening RAW files in Photoshop from LR will be problematic.
You can get around this by choosing "Render using Lightroom" when you open it in Photoshop:

• Adobe Acrobat is not installing with CS5 Suite

I have downloaded the CS5 Suite and Adobe Acrobat is not being included in that download for some reason. What is wrong and how can I correct this issue asap!
thank you

Hello,
I am having the same issue. I purchased CS5 a few years ago and have reinstalled it onto my new computer (Was done successfully). When I went to download CS5, the adobe acrobat pro 9.3 (I believe this is the version) was not included. For the life of me, I cannot find the ability to download it anywhere. I'd prefer to not to have to purchase it again since I already bought it (even though it's been a few years).
Any tips would be most appreciated!
Thanks,

• Does Lion play friendly with CS5 Suite?

Was thinking of upgrading my MacPro from Snow Leopard to Lion and wanted to know if it is fully ready to handle a graphics work environment. I use InDesign CS5, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat pretty regularly along with Suitcase Fusion and Lightroom 2 (and Quark 8 sometimes) Once in a while use Contribute to maintain an old website for someone. Have read the Adobe problems list file (and nothing sounds like too much of an issue). Do mostly Print Production work.
Opinions/comments welcome.
Jeff

You can buy a cheap (~$8) usb thumb drive and do a full install that way.
http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1433
Is the utility to do it if you want the easy way out. Otherwise there are a gob of sites that will show you the manual way to do it.
Bob is a big clean install fan though I've had really good luck with upgrades. Just depends on how old your Snow Leopard system is. A couple months back someone had some issues with InDesign opening links due to having upgraded and upgraded and upgraded since I believe 10.2. Just depends on how much time you spent on the machine as an administrator testing out garbage apps and various whirlygigs. The more you tinker the more stuff will break.
I'd ensure anything else you want works fine with Lion. I know Default Folder X works great with it and so does DropBox. Those two things are the only gamebreakers for me. Since you are already on Snow Leopard you've given up on the Acrobat PDF printer and a good number of other things some miss with Lion. Make sure you don't have an Classic apps or stuff like ancient Quicken going first also. I can't think of too many things that don't work, but if you have anything that you haven't updated in the last 5 years or have things from software companies that lag behind on what technologies they use to build their applications you may want to ensure they will launch.
If you use Quark you may want to make sure that works, seems like every operating system upgrade I do requires a new version of Quark. That's what prompted me to stop at Quark 7 when it didn't launch in Snow Leopard. Sick of paying the piper for an application that doesn't generally get any better or have a motivating industry requiring me to update it like Adobe's upgrade spectrum.

• Online help does not work any more (Lightroom 3, CS5 Suite)

Hi,
since a few days I get an error when using the Lightroom Online (german edition) help on my Win 7 64bit computer.
When searching for something there pops up a dialog box stating "Unerwarteter Fehler. Suchen Sie erneut", that's like "Unexpected error. Please search again".
My girlfriend has the CS5 Web Suite. She gets the same error on a diffferent computer (but also Win7 64bit). She also got an error 16822 when the help client tried to update. This error is already known and so I was able to fix it.
But the error when using the help itself is still there.
Any ideas.
PS: The help does work when I switch from online to local search.

I tried again— but NO – it does not work

• How to update revoked certificate issue with CS5 suite?

I have a security issue found with a Nessus scan that states:
Synopsis: An application installed on the remote Windows host is signed by a revoked certificate.
Description
: The remote host is using Adobe software that has been digitally signed by a revoked certificate. An Adobe build server was compromised, which has caused at least two malicious utilities to be signed with Adobe's code signing certificate. Any software signed by this revoked certificate (including legitimate Adobe software) is no longer trusted.
I have followed everything I found on how to correct this, but most information is regarding CS6. I have updated the certificate through Acrobat (version 9), but that has not fixed my issue.
The programs it says that are affected are:
Bridge.exe
Extension Manager
Illustrato
Photoshop
I see no way to update anytype of certificate in these programs.
Is it just that CS5 is no longer supported, or have I missed an update?
Thanks,
Dan

Rahul,
You can do this in the doDMl method of your Entity Object.

I have a PC running Windows XP (yes an antique) with CS3 Photoshop and InDesign and lightroom 2 (yes all antiques). I have acquired a PC running Windows 7 with no programs. I also have a MacBook pro with full CS5 suite. The programs were already loaded with I got it as a gift. Question 1. If I find serial numbers used to download programs to the old PC, can those CS3 programs be put on the newer PC. Question 2. I really want to put CS5 suite on PC machines. Is that possible? Especially since my MacBook is showing some hard drive problems.

You should be able to get the CS3 programs installed and running on the new pc since CS3 is spec-ed for Windows 7 Service Pack 1. Downloading the programs does not require a serial number. You can find them here: Download CS3 products but you will need the serial number to activate the programs. You might be able to find that thru your Adobe account online.
You will not be able to install the CS5 Mac version on a PC and you won't be able to trade it to a PC version either due to it being an older version. Trades are allowed only for the latest version (CS6)

• Have OnOne software Suite used with cs5 always crashing MACbook Pro

I Have OnOneSoftware Suite used with CS5 PS and Lightroom 3..Work with Canon 5dMark11 (so files are big) ..always crashing when going into OnOne..Do I need more ram?
I have a macbookPro, late 2009, with 4GB Ram. ALso can I installed more on that model? Thanks for help in advance!

That's not an issue with the MacBook Pro hardware. You should either visit the OnOneSoftware website or Adobe. They'll provide you with a better/faster/more useful answer.

• Adobe cs5 suite compatibility with Yosemite

Has anyone tested Yosemite with the adobe cs5 suite

Photoshop CS5 Extended
Illustrator CS5

etc....?

Thank you
I have CS%
I have been using the Adobe products almost daily since the early 90's
You would not beleive how much money I have paid them over the years to keep my Adobe sutes update.
I will not give them any more money as I am ver happy with CS5 and their cloud software is not to be trusted.how it is for me
I am going to retire before I will give them another thin dime.....haaa
Thank you for your advice.
I am guessing that the actual CS%/ CS^ engine was not all that different so I am hoping I am good to go.t
What surprises me is that there is not more information on the SE's regarding Yosemite software compatibility

I have adobe cs5 suite in particular dreamweaver I use alot, is it compatable with Lion?

http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Shows Dreamweaver in CS5 has some issues, 5.5. is OK.

• Remote update cs5 suites

We have about 15 clients with different cs5 suites and some lose photoshop/dreamweaver installs on the network. both microsoft and osx clients.
What is the best way to keep these clients updated without running around all the time?
Was looking for some console update options but can't find a thing about that.
Adobe has a nice deployment toolkit which was perfect for deployment.
Also read about hosting your own update server. But nothing in the docs about remotely updating the clients.
anyone some good advice for this?

Hi Ashubijalwan1,
just to make sure there is no misunderstanding:
All Creative Suite Apps are updated except for the app with the name "Adobe Creative Cloud".
When I use the Creative Cloud Packager and select solely the core components, "Adobe Creative Cloud" is a part of them. The program itself shows a message saying that an update is necessary, but RUM won't update "Adobe Creative Cloud".
Best regards,

• I used up my two downloads for my standard CS5 suite, my backed up program on my external hard drive isn't working. My serial number says it is invalid, what do I do?

I purchased the standard CS5 suite (photoshop, illustrator, in design, bridge) student package for my laptop (through a download process, not dvd, in which I had two downloads). I used my first one, that followed with my hard drive crashing. I used my second download, and then I had an accident with my laptop and had to purchase a new one. I backed up all of my programs onto an external hard drive and I just tried to re download adobe programs using that. When i enter my serial number it says it is invalid. What can I do? Live chat will not help me because I do not have the current CS6 or CC.

Double-check your serial number here: Find your serial number quickly
Serial numbers will sometimes become invalidated if they were hacked and made available on the internet.

• Strange window behavior with CS5

I have begun experiencing strange behavior with PS CS5. I should begun with the machine configuration: 2.66GHz iMac (8,1) Intel Core Duo with 4GB RAM and OSX 10.6.6, Radeon HD 2600 Pro graphics card. The initial symptom showed up suddenly as an inability to display an image window; that is, I could open PS normally, everything would show up properly, but when I opened an image file of any sort, there would be no image window. Other cues indicated that the file was open; for example, the window menu would show it selected, and the layers palette would show the file's layers.
It did not seem to matter what type of file was involved: PSD, JPG, TIF, whatever. Occasionally, this behavior would begin during a session. Sometimes it would happen right off the bat. Sometimes, stopping and restarting PS seemed to clean things up; other times, this had no effect. After messing around quite a bit with different permutations and combinations, all I could say was that the problem was random.
I might add that I've had PS CS5 on this machine pretty much since it was announced, and had not had problems with it before. So this issue came along quite suddenly a couple of weeks ago. This was a little after I'd installed an update for Nik's Viveza 2; and I began to suspect that. Although why Viveza should do such a strange thing was odd, and Viveza was never part of the files I was experiencing issues with. Anyway, I went back to an earlier version of Viveza and the problem persisted.
Since I run Time Machine, I also went back to versions of the entire PS folder from a month back, and found the same problem. Along the way, I experimented with the files I was using with PS CS4 & CS3, which I also have installed on this machine. These two versions of PS run perfectly well. At least the CS4 version has precisely the same plugins as the CS5 folder, and this seems to discount the potential problem with plugins.
To be sure about CS5, I completely deactivated, deinstalled, and reinstalled it. The same issues occurred. Now, I have to admit that I let PS run its update process so that I brought it back to the most recent version in this step of my troubleshooting. So, I can't be certain that the issue isn't with some update of CS5.
I might add that I have been running CS5 in 32-bit mode, for compatibility with certain plugins. This may or may not be an issue, since I have limited experience with running in 64-bit mode. At this point, I should add a bit more about the confusing behavior.
While messing around with CS5, I also suspected the GPU support, since my problem had to do with windows. When the problem presents itself, the usual cycle through window views that you get by pressing the "F" key seems to get messed up. In particular, the "F" key doesn't work at all. Next, if you use the View menu to select different views, the full screen with menu bar view will often have garbled pixels, while the full screen view will show a blank grey screen. Then, cycling back to a window view will show a window with blank grey contents. This is interesting since the starting point was no window at all; but going into full screen and then back will produce a window with bogus contents.
Now, the next strange thing, having to do with the GPU, is that CS5 often fails to recognize the Radeon HD 2600 card. Oddly enough, it did originally. And I had it running in Basic mode. However, CS4 does recognize the GPU; and I can set it in any variety of modes: Basic, Normal, and Advanced. This behavior is not consistent at all either; that is, while CS5 almost always now fails to detect the GPU, sometimes it does. As near as I can tell, this failure to detect the card does not depend upon whether I start CS5 in 32-bit or 64-bit mode. OTOH, CS4 always recognizes the GPU.
Another form of this odd behavior arises if I start CS5 cold, and then just open a new blank window. This almost always works. I get a blank white window, and I can paint on it with a brush, etc. However, if I go ahead at this point and open a file, then the new file takes over the window; and there are no tabs. If I select the original new file, usually labelled "Untitled", the window bar will show the change of filename but the window's contents and the layers palette will continue to show the old file that I had opened. Cycling through views can sometimes get back to the new Untitled file, but just selecting file windows never works.
Yet another aspect of this messed up window behavior is that the workspace bar, which shows the Bridge, MiniBridge and view icons on the upper left and the various workspace options and CS Live on the upper right, is present but blank. OTOH, the tool bar is always displayed correctly, as is the horizontal bar that shows the various tool options. Likewise, the palettes for the workspace such as layers, swatches, adjustments, and so on, are always correctly displayed on the left.
My next steps in trying to figure this out will be to ensure that I am running the latest of all plugins so that I can get everything running in 64-bit mode and try this again. However, the single factor that seems consistent in this whole mess is that whenever I do find this odd behavior, the performance preferences window will indicate that CS5 is not detecting the GPU. Whenever this happens, if I open up CS4 and check the same performance preference in it, the GPU is detected. I can have the two preference windows side by side on the screen in fact, CS4 sees the GPU and CS5 does not. The counter-indication is that sometimes CS5 will work properly and the preferences window still shows that the GPU has not been detected. Having said that, I can add that if I have opened up CS5, and it has found the GPU, and I have set it into, say, Basic mode, and then later found CS5 messing up, and I go back and check the performance preferences again, the GPU has always been lost. So, CS5 can mess up windows with or without the GPU detected and active; but when if it started with the GPU present, it will show up as lost after the weird behavior starts.
To add one more observation, I have had Macs and other computers with failing GPUs. This computer is showing none of the typical signs of that. Every other program seems to be working just fine, and I have a lot of these, many graphics intensive; e.g., Corel Painter 11, Parallels v6 running Windows 7, PS CS4, Lightroom v3, Aperture v3, and so on. It is just CS5 that is messing up.
I could load up this message with screen shots of all this nonsense, but I'm not sure what that would add to the strange tale, other than I'm not pulling your legs. I am, however, pulling out my own hair.
As I stated before, this began quite suddenly a couple of weeks ago, early Feb 2011. My best guess as to cause is some combination of incompatible updates between CS5, OSX, and maybe some plugin or other. I found unusual behavior with onOne's FocalPoint v2 last year after Apple updated GPU drivers in some OSX update, and cratered that program. It took onOne a month or two to fix that. I have CS5 on a laptop with the same OSX version, and on that I haven't seen these issues; but then, I haven't been using it as intensely over there. Also, that machine has different CPU and GPU models than this iMac.
So, to the community: is anybody else starting to see this odd stuff? Am I alone?

Here's the reason I say that the same plugins exist for both CS4 & CS5. Sometime last year, the internal hard drive on this computer died (as they so often do), and it was replaced under the Apple care warranty. As a consequence, I decided to rebuild the OS and applications from scratch and bring back my user files from backup. I among other things, I reinstalled all of CS4 as well as CS5 (and I had to put CS3 back too for reasons having to do with printing calibration images for Quad Tone RIP). Then, I went to reinstall the plugins that I needed. I use Nik Software, onOne, Portrait Professional and various Topaz plugins. To my recollection, most of these install in PS CS3, CS4, CS5, Aperture, and Lightroom. In short, it is not that I've copied or moved plugin folders from one application folder to another, just that the installers automatically detect the presence of the various applications and put the various plugins into each, as appropriate.
The only 32-bit plugins that I have that don't fit into this category are from Vincent Versace. He provides special versions of certain Nik plugins (Tonal Contrast, Contrast Only, etc) that function with some Acme Educational extensions for performing B&W conversion, sharpening, blah blah blah. These plugins are only 32-bit and the extensions are only CS5 compatible. I've installed these ones only into CS5; so, you've got me. OTOH, I've had these from Vincent as soon as CS5 was available; and they've worked so far without problems. Perhaps I should just edit the extensions so I could use the latest plugins direct from Nik instead of the Versace special editions...
I've checked fonts and repaired permissions. I am presently going through the rather tedious process of disabling plugins and extensions to see if anything yields consistent results. The rather random arrival of the strangeness makes ensuring that a change is really having an effect more difficult to validate, as you will appreciate.
I apologize for my long-winded original post. I add all of the detail so that anyone who'd experienced similar strange behaviors might properly pattern-match what they were seeing. On the one hand, in finding the cause of a problem, you look for what's changed; and theoretically nothing is new. On the other hand, there's always so much changing behind the scenes with automatic updates of this, that, and the other thing that it's impossible to make the claim that nothing's new.

• Fonts in my CS5 Suite is like an Asian Restaurant menu...

I love Asian food but....I dont need the Asian FONTS
I can not get or understand why CS5 (PPRO, Photoshop) continues to display Fonts that I have specifically told Win7 Font Manager not to display
There is a Control Panel > Fonts> Setting that "Hides Fonts" that do not correspond to ones Language Setting. (in my case English)
The Font window shows that the Asian Fonts are Hidden.
...but not to my CS5 apps.
I still get fonts and all their variations cluttering my Font Menus in the CS5 Adobe apps... like :
Batang
Dotum
Gulim
Gunsuh
Sim Sun
MingLiu
Meiro
Kokika
Aparajita
...would you like noodles or rice with that sir?
I have extensively and succesfully deleted many Asian fonts from the system. but the above, and more, refuse to delete because allegedly they are Adobe or System Fonts. The samples even display in respective Asian characters. (Japanese, Korean, Thai etc..)
Font Navigator (Bit Stream) indicates I have only 82 installed fonts in my system. These are the fonts of my choice and is about right. They do not include the Asian fonts
Why does the CS5 Suite show me the Asian Fonts?
How do I clean them out?
What does Font xml do in the Adobe folder?
Summary:
1.The listed Asian Fonts show as hidden in Win 7 Font Management
2. They do not appear in Font Navigator as installed. I can probably find them in the system if I run the "Catalogue" function though.
3.They show up in Adobe app Font select menus.

Craig,
That's correct; what's in the Win7 Fonts control panel is what I see in CS5 apps:
This is Photoshop, but Premiere Pro's titler is the same. I had all the annoying foreign language fonts before the script, and now they're gone. I've run the script on both of my edit boxen, and on my field machine, and haven't encountered any problems for having done so. I'll second your recommendation to restart after running the script; fonts display a little weird in the control panel until you do so. Other than that, it pruned a signicant number of typeface "choices" that I'd never choose.
I can't guarantee it'll work for you or for everyone, as I had nothing to do with the script, but I've been cruising along for a couple months now with the lighter font load.

I currently have CS5 suite, I know it's old..but its what I have to work with. I just purchased the Nikon D3300 and cannot open the raw files. I installed the 8.4 dng converter, but obviously that does not work. i tried to uninstall it and install the 6.3 as I read that on a board. But I can't even uninstall the 8.4. No option for that in the uninstall in windows..it just does not come up. Help!! How do open the raw files in CS5?

You need Windows 7/8/8.1 to run the DNG 8.4 converter. Which do you have?
Before you do anything, there is a proper way to use it. You convert a folder of raw files not a single raw file.
Camera Raw: How to use Adobe DNG Converter - YouTube
The DNG converter is a single executable file. There are no registry entries. That's why there is no uninstall in the Control Panel. All you have to do is locate the file and delete it.
