Lightroom 6 peridocially freezes

Lightroom 6 standalone periodically freezes for me as long as I am signed in. If I go to help->sign out, everything becomes smooth once again, but while signed in doing simple things like zooming in/out of photo ends up freezing for 2-10 seconds randomly (very frequently). Problem then restarting lightroom requires sign-ins again, which is pain to do each itme.
Any ideas how to fix it?

I'm getting thect same problem as you, kwdaves! It's a tremendously frustrating process. It will work flawlessly for a couple of days and then, 'boom' - it's not happy any more and won't co-operate. I bought the perpetual licence and have upgraded from LR5 on a Win7 64-bit SP1 OS. I, too, am not happy at the subversive strategies that Adobe is employing to cloak the pathway to aquiring a perpetual licence whilst coercing most towards the CC model. I find it dishonest and invasive - almost parroting the Microsoft approach, but all-the-while pretending that it is an entirely acceptable practice. It is only acceptable as long as consumers allow it. Please consider the open approach to licensing and superb product development that I used to respect Adobe for.

  • Lightroom 5.2 freezes when using the spot edit tool with Wacom Intuos 5

    Hi,
I've been using Photoshop 6.x with my Intuos 5 for almost a year and it's been great.  I recently purchased Lightroom 5.2 only to discover that when I use the spot edit tool that it freezes when i use this tool as a brush.  It starts off smooth, but after brushing across my area i want to clone/heal, Lightroom seems to freeze up, and the spot edit tool is unusable.  I can lift my pen off the tablet and a few seconds later Lightroom comes back, but the tablet is basically unusable to me.  The mouse works perfectly fine.
I've read other posts at the end of last year '12, that walks through some regedits and disabling some other tablet functions, but none of those work for me.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks Ed

I solved my own issue.  I saw an article @ http://www.lightroomforums.net/showthread.php?19694-Spot-removal-tool-doesn-t-work-with-Wa com-Intuos-5-in-LR-5 that solved my issue.
    Step 1:
    Walcom Tablet Properties
    Step 2:
Click on Customize and change the default line graph from this:
    Step 3:
    To this
    Step 4:
    Click OK.
After that, my spot edit tool stopped freezing in LR 5.2 while i was using my intuos 5 pen.
Prior to doing this, I also did the procedure listed here:  http://forum.wacom.eu/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8036
So it's possible that both need to be done in order for the freezing to stop.  I hope this can help others.

  • Lightroom 4 fatally freezes windows 7 on backup

I have never encountered a program which crashes as severely as this. Lightroom 4 will freeze when backing up (the progress bar is a little more than halfway across) and then takes the entire OS down with it! Cancel will not work. The entire GDI will eventually freeze. Even Task Manager will not work. The only solution is to completely switch off the computer without shutting down. There are NO mainstream programs on Windows that crash with such dire consequences, it is the sort of thing I might expect from some very dodgy developer, not Adobe.
This happens every time I agree to back up, so the only workaround is to set it to "Never" back up.
Because of this, along with the install issue which I have also reported, I have to say I think this software is apalling.
    Windows 7 64 bit Pro, SP1.

Turning off backup of your catalogs is asking for trouble. I tried to do something unusual in LR last week and corrupted everything. Hadn't done a catalog backup for 2 days, so lost 2 days work!
If you have only got your system on a drive to itself, using the free version of Paragon backup&restore only takes about 6 minutes to backup and another 6 minutes to restore it if you decide to do so.  A fresh install of Win7 and LR is only going to take an hour at most, probably 30 minutes. At least it would show you whether LR will run fine in a clean install. Then you can decide whether to restore your old system, or slowly install everything on the new installation. I've just done a clean install of Win8, because simply upgrading win7 to Win8 causes some problems, even though it does keep all your other programs.  You may not even need everything in your current installation, and you certainly can't use it all at once. So it can be done slowly as you need the other programs. And using Paragon backup you can even restore custom presets, actions, workspaces, etc from your current CS6 to a new CS6 install.
If you definitely don't want to do a reinstall, then I would export your current LR catalog to a new one (transfers all good stuff in the catalog, and can leave behind any old stuff from previous versions), uninstall LR, delete all LR preferences files and all other leftover stuff in LR program catalogs and LR user folders, clean LR stuff from the registry, delete the acr cache, delete all previews, previews.db, etc.  and then download a fresh copy of LR 4.3, install it and using the exported catalog (NOT the old one - rename the old one so it can't try using it), recreate your previews, cache, etc. That might do the trick if the corruption is in LR stuff, rather than in your system or other programs.

Lightroom 5 is freezing in the Library module. I can't access folders or import photos!!! HELP!!!

Dont know if this is a new occurrence or very many details but try changing "permissions".
Navigate to the following folder: /Users/[user name]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom
Highlight the Lightroom folder and chose File > Get Information
Under Sharing & Permission, verify that your have Read & Write Privileges. If not, click the padlock icon at the lower right, enter your password when prompted, then click the Read only entry and select Read & Write.

  • Lightroom 2.6 freezes a lot

I am using LR2.6 with a catalog of about 39000 pictures, on a 64-bit W7 machine with 12g memory.  I keep everything in DNG, and export to JPG as needed.  The catalog keeps freezing up, and won't let me do anything, sometimes for several minutes at a time.  It opens again and is ok for a little while and then it freezes again, sometimes with one or more white panels and a notification that "Lightroom has stopped responding."  Sometimes it will go a long time without that happening, other times it is every few seconds.

I think part of the key is to optimize the catalog regularly every couple of days.
Whatever the magic is, somehow the problem seems to have disappeared in
    my workflow.  I have a catalog of 40,000 DNG pictures, a W7 64-bit, 12g
RAM, quad core and tons of internal and external HD space.  I have three
LaCie 2TB external drives, on USB, one of which contains all the DNG
files in my catalog.  I backup  and optimize the catalog
every few days, which I guess must be the key to something.  Other than
that, I cannot think of anything I am doing that is much different from
what I have always done, but somehow things are working smoothly at the
moment.  Knock wood.  I hope things improve for you as they did for me,
but there are still plenty of mysteries.  Maybe Adobe will sneak in some
fixes in their updates (without ever admitting that there were
significant problems in the first place!) and things will keep getting
    better.

Subject: Lightroom 2.6 freezes a lot
I am having a very similar issue with very similar computer.  50,000 images in catalog,  i7 920 cpu, 12GB ram, Windows 7 x64.
LR is freezing all the time between 5 and 50 minutes of use.  driving me nuts!
I thought I had some bad RAM so I ran memtest86+ for 24hrs and it checked out OK.
I thought it was my RAID array so i ran integrity checks and it came out OK.
I went back to thinking it was RAM and removed all but 2 sticks and tried to re-import my images (thinking maybe also corrupt catalog) and it would freeze at around 11000 images.  Swapped RAM for another pair and it happened again.
Then I thought it was a memory leak in LR2.6 so I put all my RAM back and re-imported my images and it was successful and has been running for 3 days straight with no freezes.
so all i think I did was change the order of the RAM (and re-seat it)
Anyone figure out what the actual cause and resolution is?

My Lightroom program keeps freezing and (not responding) what can I do?

  • Windows 8.1 user with multiple external drives. Lightroom CC 2015 freezes on import. Need to have Lightroom recognize only a single drive.

I see that Adobe still hasn't fixed this issue where Lightroom freezes up during import when a system has multiple external drives attached. Disappointing.
A friend suggested that I configure Lightroom to only recognize the single external drive where I save my RAW files. I haven't been able to find out where in Lightroom's settings to do this.
Currently the only folders I have in Lightroom are my local C disk and my external drive with the RAW files, (K), where I do all my editing.
Can anyone offer advice on how I can either do what my friend suggested or find another way of dealing with/solving this issue? Currently Lightroom is almost unusable for me since I cannot add new files on my K drive to develop.
    Thanks.

I save edited images from Photoshop into a new folder on the same hard drive my catalog is on, then attempt to import, or to right-click on the edited image and choose Open in Lightroom. Lightroom hangs in either situation.

  • LIghtroom 5.7 Freeze and not answering MAC OS/X  10.9.5

    Hi
After installing lightroom 5.7 I get some performances issues. Lightroom is using a lot of memory," free memory available" is decreasing even I am doing nothing.
In  all modules, when I want to go from on image to an other, there are freeze every 5 or 6 images. 1/1 preview are build and never deleted.
My system is a Macbook pro 8 giga RAM, 500Giga fast disk running MAC OS/X  10.9.5, only one application is running Lightroom 5.7
my library is a small one  21,000 images in RAW format
You can see the message in red sorry it is in French "Lightroom (ne réponds pas) "   Lightroom not answering. During the time you can see the message, Lightroom is frozen, then all previous click and actions are made in a short time.
Each time I am going from one image to an other in all modules , the free memory available is going down and never be cleaned by Lightroom (Memory leak?)
After 15 minutes, to take a slow look of about 500 images, Lightrrom is using 2,0 Gig memory and free memory available is reaching less than 60Meg, yes about 0 Giga
If I continue trying to do my job, lightroom can stay in the frozen state during 2 minutes. Then I can do myself a memory clem to get 2.88 GB of free memory, then Lightrrom is returning to 1 Giga real memory usage and return to some normal speed
    condition
    Hop this can help developers.

Here is a view to my Apple system, don't say this system is too old please. I will return to Lightroom 5.4 where the performance were good enough for my job.

  • Solved Lightroom 2.2 Freeze-ups

Ever since Lightroom 1.4 through ver 2.2 my system would freeze or crash after developing 30 to 50 images, requiring a system restart. I got fed up with it after the last freeze today and decided to investigate the "preferences".
Lo and behold at the bottom of the File Handling tab sits a little box "Maximum Size" in the Camera Raw Cache Settings. It was set to 5.0 GB.
I reset it to 15.0 GB and just developed 200 or more images without a freeze or crash.
GOTO Edit>Preferences>File Handling> in the Camera Raw Cache Settings increase the "Maximum Size" to at lease 15 GB.

I have been using Lightroom 2 very heavily for the past three months as I am scanning my lifetime's collection of slides and I use Lightroom to do the final touches. I have processed 3,700 images with no problems. But as of today it is freezing constantly and I am forced to do a soft restart everytime as nothing is responding. Oddly, I was able to access the task manager once this evening and it registered no activity within the computer at all. No processor activity, apps, services, nothing. I could not even shut down the computer with the task manager. Weird! I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but no change. I think that a Norton update or a Windows update it to blame but that is just my wild guess. I am thinking about permanently uninstalling Lightroom.

  • Lightroom 2.2 freezes up when importing phtotos from my g10

I got a g10 a few weeks ago and have been anxiously awaiting the 2.2 upgrade.
installed the upgrade to LR 2.2 last night, seems to go fine, When i put my card from g10 in my computer and push import, LR room freezes up to the point of being unreponsive?
    what would cause this?
what can i do to fix it? I have ps cs3, would that be the problem?
    THanks,

It's a .dat file. "Roaming" is the AppData subfolder on Vista that has among other files my Lightroom Prefs, Bibble cache and a CameraRaw/CameraProfiles folder with the .dat file.
This may be a WAG, but I wonder if deleting the contents of both of these files may be necessary for a re-install to fix the problem.

  • Lightroom 2.6 Freezes - Folders with apostrophes the culprit

    Hi All,
Thought you might be interested... anyone who may be having severe and frustrating problems with Lightroom freezing the operating system, requiring a hard reset...
I upgraded to 2.6 and had constant freezes - as soon as I tried to import or move my mouse to the left or right of the screen, my system would lock up and I would have to reset the PC. After a series of restarts and much frustration I remembered that in an earlier version of Lightroom (can't remember which now) where you had folders in your library that contained apostrophes in the names, Lightroom had major problems. It was resolved however with some sort of subsequent release or fix. Indeed, subsequently I had two folders using apostrophes prior to upgrading to 2.6 and had no issues with Lightroom whatsoever.
I renamed my folders removing those apostrophes and Lightroom is no longer locking the whole system and seems to be running fine. Of course I had to point Lightroom to the 'missing folders' once I'd done that. I'm running Vista 64 bit with 12 GBs RAM by the way.
Just thought it might help anyone having the same kind of problems...

I hope I am not speaking too soon.
I had written you this detailed response because I was having the exact same problem, LR2.6 freezing after 5-50 minutes of use.  I have a very similar system i7 920, 12GB DDR3 RAM, x64 Windows 7.  I thought it was my RAM so I had taken 4 sticks out and was running off of just 2.  i tried to re-import my 50k image library and it froze at 11000 images.  I swapped for 2 other sticks of RAM and did the import and again froze around 11000 images.  I was thinking memory leak for sure.  Then I read your post.  I put all the memory back in and re-ran the import (expecting it to freeze around 40k images) but it did NOT.  It has been running fine for 3 days now.  So basically all I can figure I did was re-arrange the RAM because I did not put it back in the same order as it originally was.  This doesnt make sense to me.  I was watching resource monitor as the import occurred and LR grew from 500mb RAM to 2.5GB of ram but never went beyond that.
Previously I ran Memtest86+ for 24hrs so im pretty sure my RAM is OK.
Have you had any more freezes?  have you found a solution?
    -Paul

  • Lightroom 2.1 freezes when using new Gradient tool. (Mac 10.5 Leopard)

In the Develop Module, when I click the Gradient tool and apply it to an image, the "Beach Ball" appears and program freezes. When I go to "force Quit" the application, I see: Lightroom (Not Responding).
Running on IMac 24", 2.4 intel, 2GB Ram.

I took the plunge and while I've only edited a small series of images - 2.1 RC appears to be usable - thank you, Adobe engineers. I haven't gone hunting bugs, but previously the bugs were hunting me. More like ambushing at every mouse click.
I wanted to quickly mention that this forum has some seriously trigger-happy Adobe defenders. I realize that there are annoying know nothings out there, that don't run well maintained systems and blame the first hiccup on Adobe, Apple, MS or whoever. But sometimes the code is bad. I was pretty unhappy after paying the upgrade and getting what I felt was a useless beta, but the sting in the tail was the pushback on the forum. I don't spend enough time here to know the regulars from the visitors, so maybe it's just the usual wacko brand loyalists dropping by.
Recap: 2 Macs running latest Leopard and LR1 with no probs. Loaned Adobe some $ so they could develop some software while I upgraded to LR2. Beachballs started raining down on me, I troubleshooted on one system, everything short of a system reinstall, LR2 still useless on both. Downgraded to LR 1.4 so I could deliver work to clients. After reading this thread I installed 2.1 RC and no more beachballs on both systems. I feel pretty comfortable on where to assign hiccup blame. I'm blaming myself too, for upgrading. Adobe isn't getting a dime from me for CS4 or LR3 unless Apple 'upgrades' me into it. Stability over features, ALWAYS.

  • Lightroom 4.3 freezes system when I try export - please help me!

I am so tired now with this Lightroom
Almost every time when I try export all system creshes.
    My computer:
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9650 3,00 GHz
    8 GB RAM
    ATI Radeon HD 4800
    Windows 7 Service Pack 1
I wrote to technical support and got advice about instal Lightroom 4.3 (I tried it with 4.1, 4.2, 4.3) on created new user  Windows, and nothing. I exported few photos and now again I can't export no photos more. And get still crashing system
    Please help me...

And if all that happens is your system freezes without any error message and the only thing you can do is power it off, then I can think of a couple things:
    1)      If you have your phone plugged in to a USB cable attached to the computer, disconnect it.  Some phones don’t play nice when they are connected as removable storage.  Unplug any other USB devices to see if the Export starts to function, again.
    2)      Your computer may have a hardware or driver issue where installing new video drivers and testing memory are a couple things to try but otherwise it may be hard to diagnose.
Since it worked once, there is some hope you’ll be able to determine what is causing it not to work by repeated the process preceded the one time it did work, and then don’t change anything and try another Export and see if it works, and if so, then keep track of what you do elsewise with the system between the last time it works and the first time it doesn’t to see if there is some pattern.

  • Lightroom 3.5 freezes every time I try to export

I have tried to export some pictures and have not been able to.
We have 329,000 pictures in lightroom but haven't had any problem before 3.5.
Has anyone found this problem with 3.5?

    Hello Hal,
Before the holidays I couldn't make it export, no matter what I did.
Now I can't make it freeze up.
I am trying to figure out what is different. I had lots of programs opened
and may have had a RAM shortage issue but I don't know what else is
    different.
I have probably reset the computer two or three times since then and have
only iPhoto running right now...as Lightroom is now functioning properly.
I just successfully burned a CD from exporting directly from Lightroom and
then attempted to also export the same pictures (about 40 files) to a hard
drive and it didn't lock up for that either. I guess we don't have a
    problem anymore.
Maybe this isn't the right place to ask for a couple of features but I have
looked on your website multiple times to try and figure out where to
    request features in Lightroom.
1-Simple duplicate deleting without having to manually deal with every
single file. Over the years we have had multiple hard drives crash. Before
we discovered the cloning software which doesn't require us to find the
unique files, we just started saving all of these backup drives and have
ended up with sometimes 10 duplicates of pictures. We now have probably
150,000 duplicate pictures in our 329,000 pictures in Lightroom. The other
reason for the duplicates is that the naming systems didn't used to make
unique names each time we imported. So, each time the camera was downloaded
we had what appeared to be duplicate names of pictures in the computer. If
we re-name them in a batch, the other programs which have imported these
pictures will no longer recognize these names. There are still thousands of
pictures with the same names but aren't really duplicates.
Another challenge with deleting duplicates is that I have folders that have
legitimate duplicates (say in a company website folder) We would need to be
able to have the option to delete all duplicates EXCEPT in Folders X  AND Y
AND Z. This way we can protect any collections we keep outside of
Lightroom. I can't really have an outside program do this without making a
mess in lightroom. Anything that is changed outside of Lightroom turns into
a question mark inside of Lightroom. Then you have to go in and hope you
are not deleting files that you really didn't want to delete. Maybe you
already have a feature like this.  *
Even if you started with having the option to place the folder name on each
picture so that as we look at the duplicates lined up on the screen, we can
quickly tell which folders and duplicates we want to keep. That would be
    helpful for a start.
2-Face recognition would be a nice feature too. Right now I am importing as
many pictures as possible into iPhoto so that I can have that feature for
at least my most recent pictures.
Thank you for your quick responses. I wasn't able to spend much time on my
desktop with the Lightroom software over the last week...Sorry.
If there are any other ways I can help you find the problem with exporting,
    let me know.
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Lightroom 2.6 freezes when trying to export images

I have been using LR successfully on a Windows XP machine for several years and using version 2.6 for the past several weeks . As of a few days ago, LR would freeze when trying to export images. The export functions of 'Export with Previous' and 'Export with Preset' seem to work without crashing LR but most of my exporting needs me the ability to adjust the export settings. Any advise?

I would guess LR only goes by drive-letter so if you've kept that the same it should be ok.  Look for something else.
I would look in your Lightroom Preferences files to see if there is any drive letter that no longer exists.
On Vista/Win7 my LR prefs file is in:
    C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences
XP has something similar under C:\Documents and Settings\Local Settings (or Application Data)
If you open that file in a simple text-editor like NotePad then about halfway down (at least in mine) there are some export-related things that include the drive-letter and path on your hard-drive to various folders.  You can find it by searching for:
    AgMRUPopupList_AgExport_destinationFolderPathPrefix
Look through those and see if any of the drive-letters or paths are wrong and look around for other paths.  The paths will contain
    or
instead of \ because the low-level language routines LR is written with need it that way so if you change anything, keep the number of slashes consistent.
It could very well be that there is nothing wrong with any of the paths, so another approach would be to rename or move your preferences file to see if LR will recreate it with defaults for everything, and see if that clears up the lockups.
Whether you decided to edit or rename your preferences file, please make a backup copy so you can put it back in case something even worse happens and you need it back.
