Lightroom adjustments applied to edits in external application

I discovered something else tonight that I sure didn't think happened. When I do an edit in external application and choose Edit a Copy (Lightroom adjustments will not be visible) the lightroom adjustments that were applied to the original are applied to the edited file. They show before you save your edit and they are applied after you save your file. This surely is not what anybody wants nor do I remember this happening (maybe I always edited an unadjusted file before tonight?). They don't show in history so you can't undo them except by zeroing all the changes.

Thanks for responding, Pierre. No, I get three choices to edit in an external editor. My files are jpgs. a) edit the original, b) edit a copy without lightroom adjustments, c) edit a copy with lightroom adjustments. In the case of b, I get a jpg in Photoshop and it does not show lightroom adjustments. In case c, I get a PSD in Photoshop and it already shows lightroom adjustments and does not readjust it when I save the file.
I am using b. Edit a copy without lightroom adjustments. But as soon as the copy is created it shows the +- meaning an adjustment is applied and after I save a change from Photoshop, this adjustment is applied on top of the edits made in Photoshop. I didn't notice this happening previously so I wonder if it's some setting I managed to set with random incorrect keystrokes or something?
Adjustments are not applied to every file. It's only when the original has an adjustment, it is applied to the copy, and then applied to the edited copy AFTER it is saved (but the adjustments do not appear in the history).

  • LR 2.1 - Auto-Stacking EDIT IN EXTERNAL APPLICATION

I REALLY thought Adobe would have sorted this bug out. In previous versions of LR when you right clicked to EDIT a file in your external application, it popped up a dialog box asking if you wanted to
    - EDIT THE ORIGINAL
    - EDIT A COPY WITH LIGHTROOM ADJUSTMENTS
    etc etc
It also had an option to say "stack with original"
Now since LR2.1 RC that option is gone, it just does not pop up at all and of course Lightroom defaults to assuming I wish to stack my edits with my originals which I do not wish to do. So I have to continually go and unstack EDITS and then delete them, I save my edits elsewhere because that's the way I want it and the way I work and I wish I could be allowed to work the way I want to. I never experienced any such issues on 1.4 and I wish there was a way to convert my database back to 1.4.
Am I missing something with this option box not popping up ???

  • Problem with editing in external application

    Hi,
I have tried to edit a web page using an external application
(TextEdit in Mac) and Contribute allows me to open it by going to
File>Actions>Edit Page Source in External Application; but
when closing the document in TextEdit and returning to Contribute,
it shows the HTML code, not the page as it should appear in a web

Could anyone give me some advice?
    Thanks

Could you post the page-source or post the url to the

  • Edit in external editor no longer works - LR to PS

I'm using Yosemite and have Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CC 2014 installed ( all up to date ). My workflow was to make most adjustments in LR then select edit in external application (which is set to Photoshop) and had it configured to create and stack a high resolution tiff for final touch ups in PS. This would also give a dialogue box asking whether to edit the original or the LR version with adjustments. This no longer works!. When i try it now it just opens the unedited raw file in PS, no tiff duplicate, no stacking, just the raw file opens with no ajustments, which is useless to me. I have tried setting the secondary application also to PS with the same tiff export settings, but this also doesn't work and again just opens the original RAW file, i don't think i'm the only one with this issue, thanks... Will

    Hi Will,
Sometimes the problem like this happens when the Camera Raw version in Photoshop is missmatching to the RAW support from Lightroom.
For example: Working with Lightroom 5.6 while Photoshop is on ACR 8.7.
    * Currently there is the ACR 8.7 available on the Labs from Adobe.
If this is what you have installed there is a missmatch on the versions.
What happens if you set the Post Processing from Lightroom to Photoshop in the Export Dialog.
Like this you should be able to get the Adjustments you created displayed in the Document that opens in Photoshop
    Hope this helps

  • Lightroom 4 does not work with external editor

    Hi All,
I am using Lightroom 4 and Photoshop elements 9 on Mac OSX. I upgraded from LR3 to LR4 a few weeks ago and since I updated I can not anymore use Photoshop Elements 9 as external editor. I did all setups, still does not work.
Anyone has an idea what could be the issue or did anyone experience the same issue?
    Thanks,

  • Edit in external editor with lightroom adjustments issue LR5 and PS CC

Since several days when I try (in Lightroom) 5 to edit an adjusted file (NEF, JPEG or TIFF) in Photoshop CC as external editor (with the option "edit a copy with lightroom adjustments") in many cases the adjustments ar not visible in photoshop CC, or only partial visible, and sometimes the file opens not at all. Removal of the preference files of LR 5 and PS CC and  a whole new installation of LR 5 didn't resolve the issue. I have a macbookPRO with Mac OS 10.8.5 and the most recent versions of LR 5 and PS CC. Has anyone experienced this problem and what can be a solution.

I have no idea, but have you tried File / Catalog Settings/ General tab: Relaunch and Optimize. Relates to the database.

  • Edit in Photoshop CS5 function does not carry over all Lightroom adjustments

    LR 3.3 with ACR 6.3
After selecting "Edit in CS5" I do not get the dialogue box asking if I would like to apply Lightroom adjustments.
Image opened in CS5 includes some adjustments from the Develop Module, but not the Transform Lens Corrections that I had applied.
Anyone have tips on how to fix this?
    Thanks much.

OK, I managed to figure it out.  I had been getting a warning box about Camera Raw 6.5, which my "about Lightroom 3..." shows that I have.  I had been selecting "open anyway" and was losing the transforms so I just tried "render using Lightroom" and it worked fine.

I installed Photoshop CC (2014) yesterday through the Creative Cloud app. Now, when in Lightroom when I go to "edit in"and select Photoshop CC (2014) and click on "edit copy with Lightroom adjustments",  it opens Photoshop CC (2014) but my photo doesn't show up?  My photo does show up when I click on "edit copy" or "edit original".
How can I correct that so that I can open up a photo from Lightroom WITH the Lightroom adjustments? Thanks!

I'm having a similar problem, but only with jpg's. I have PS CS6, CC, and CC 2014. Other image file formats function normally with regard to the "open with" list. PS CC 2014 appears on the list. But with jpg's only PS CC appears on the "open with" list and 2014 can't be added by the browsing for it.
The curious thing is that if I have any of the three versions of Photoshop open, click on Photoshop CC in the "open with" list, the image opens in whatever version is already open on my computer. This is true of all image formats. No matter which version I pick from the "open with" list it opens in the currently running program. I use only the latest version so keeping it open all the time is an easy work around. I won't uninstall any of the earlier versions lest more file association quirks result. it would be nice to have this matter fixed.

  • Error when trying to edit in external editor in Lightroom 4

Hi all, need help please with Lightroom 4.
I have an external photo editor set up so when I choose "edit in" it goes to that editor, not photoshop.  I am getting the following error "Unexpected error performing command: bad argument #1 to 'lower' (string expected, got nil)".
I have tried repairing and reinstalling the program to no avail.  I have tried setting up a different program for the external editor, same problem.
This is working as it should in Lightroom 3.6.
    Thank you for any help.

  • Edit photos in external application: Pixelmator

I'd like to set Pixelmator as the application which opens when I want to edit photos in an external application. Presently the choice I have in the drop-down menu is only Photoshop. How can change this since there is no option to choose the external application?

This is because you previously chose Photoshop. So, go back there and select Photoshop again and the dialogue allowing you to choose will become available.
If that fails, trash the com.apple.iphoto.plist file from the home / library / preferences folder

  • Photoshop CS5/Lightroom 3 integration issue - "Edit Copy with Lightroom Adjustments" does not work

When clicking "Edit Copy with Lightoomroom Adjustments" from Lightroom, I get an error in Lightroom 3 complaining that the Camera Raw plug-in is not up to date; full message below.
"This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 6.1 for full compatibility.
Camera Raw version 4.6 is the latest version available for Photoshop CS3. If raw file support for your camera was introduced after Camera Raw 4.6, the Photoshop integration features in Lightroom require Photoshop CS4 and the latest Camera Raw version 5 plug-in.
The version of Camera Raw plug-in currently installed is 0.0."
After I click "Open Anyways", Photoshop CS5 is initiated but it seems to have lost context of why it is opened and asks me what file I want to open (i.e. the Open As dialog).
"Edit Copy" and "Edit Original" from Lightroom 3 works as expected and opens images fine in Photoshop, CS5 however.
My installation is on Windows 7. I currently also have Lightroom 1.4 and Photoshop CS3 installed. Everything worked fine with the old configuration. I also tried the same workflow in Lightroom 1.4 again just now, which is now linked to CS5 instead of CS3. The "Edit Copy with Lightroom Adjustments" also work just fine.
Things that I have tried but do not worked:
I did an Update via the Help -> Update menu, and also manually downloaded the Camera Raw 6.1 plug-in.
Blew away the Photoshop preferences file
Made sure that Lightroom 3 points to Photoshop for editor
I'm thinking that I'll try uninstall CS3 next. Anyone else encountered this issue?

[CS5.1 (12.1) ACR 6.5RC / LR 3.5RC; MacbookPro 4gb Leopard 10.5.8 ] As a Lightroom instructor, up until now this has been a vexxing problem to explain to my students. Even if ACR in Photoshop is up to date (I just downloaded 6.5RC and installed the PS Plugin), I still get the error when attempting to edit from Lightroom 3.5RC. I deleted the PS prefs file to no avail. I was not willing to re-install Photoshop as a solution (per some blog's suggestion), although that might be the ultimate answer. But what an ordeal if so!
For a solution, I went back to a resolution I devised when I had a CS3 compatibility problem with LR3. I went into the Preferences of Lightroom and manually chose the Photoshop app as the "custom" image editor. I went back to edit the file in PS from Lightroom and the ACR error disappeared. Try it. Yes, this means you need to use the Custom editor as your image editor, but it seems to have resolved the issue.

  • Editing a Web page in External Application

I am using Macromedia Contribute 3 and trying to edit the HTML code on a page by using the "Edit Page Source in External Application" option under File>Actions. It has worked in the past but now the "Edit Page Source in External Application" is grayed out. Any solutions? I know that I am connected to the website. Thanks.

    Hi There,
    Greetings from Adobe.
To make that option is available, make sure the role to which you're assigned allows it. If you can't update this setting, ask the person who is assigned as website administrator.
You will find that option under Edit > Administer Websites > Edit Role Settings > Editing > Allow users to edit a web page source in an external application.

  • Cannot Edit a Copy w/ Lightroom Adjustments in I LR 2

I am using Lightroom 2 w/ Windows Vista. Just recently I found that after I make a few edits in the Develop module and then try to Edit in Photoshop CS3 I no longer get the window offering a choice of options such as "Edit a Copy w/ Lightroom Adjustments". I can't find anything in the Preferences that explains this. Updating to Lightroom 2.1 did not help.

There are numerous threads about this in this forum, but a brief answer is:
You will only get the dialog offering the choices if you edit a non-RAW file, i.e. .jpg, .tif, .psd.
If you edit a .dng, .cr2, .nef, or other RAW file using the primary editor you will not be offered the choice. This is by design.
    If you
are editing a non-RAW file and aren't offered the dialog box then you have a problem.

  • LR3 - Cannot edit in Photoshop CS4 ("Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments")

Having just purchased LR3, it seems that when I select "Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustments", that the LR adjustments aren't being carried across into CS4. I am only given the original file in PS.
    Is this a known bug?

So what do you think might be the problem, Dorin?
I don't know. I haven't seen a bug (assuming it is indeed a bug, and not an operator error) like this is mentioned here in the forums.
This issue is going to affect my business in a major way.
If this is so critical to your business, you can use a workaround meanwhile.
Use the regular export command with the following options:
File type: PSD/TIFF; other relevant filetype options.
    Location: same as original photo.
Add to this catalog: checked. Stack with original: as needed.
    Post-processing: open in Photoshop.
Save this as an Export presets and invoke it from the File->Export with Preset from the menu.
The end result is the same as Edit in Photoshop.

  • Lightroom 5.4. Edit options are greyed out. I tried reset warnings already.

    Hi,
I just added a bigger harddrive and reinstalled Lightroom 5.4.
Now,  2 of 3 edit options are greyed out.
No access to plug-ins or external editors for original files.(NEF's)
    I tried reset warnings already.

Yes, Nikon transfer was used. From a D800, But that was a year ago.
    It has been working fine.
Before I upgraded to 5.4 I had this problem.
When I upgraded to a larger harddrive and re-installed 5.4 the access was limited to only "Copy with Lightroom adjustments."
Last night it started working, I had full access!
But, today it won't work on the same image/plug-ins.
    the NIK Collection for example.
    This effecting ALL RAW files! D100, D90, D3100, D7000, D800.
My Laptop is doing it now, too!!!
I installed DNG Converter 8.4 with No Difference. NO RAW EDITS.
I can't send a NEF to DXO Optics Pro 9, or anything else!
