Lightroom and cr2 from my new Canon T3i :( ?
What's the story...? Neither Lightroom nor photoshop can open CR2 files from my new Canon rebel T3i? I've never had an issue with raw files as I have a bunch of canon cameras. Canon says it's not their problem. Is this on Adobe? I don't understand this phenomena. It seems particular to this camera and that is worrisome... do different cameras write raw files differently? Isn't a raw file a raw file? Even when I copied the files off the card onto the desktop still can't open them.
Am using Mac OS 10.6.7, lightroom 2, PS CS 4
Advice/insight would be appreciated as I still have time to return the camera :-)

If you've never had problems then your version of Adobe products has always been newer than your camera model.
Each new camera requires specific updates to Camera RAW and Lightroom to support it. Adobe only updates the current versions of software with new camera support. This means you'd need Lightroom 3.4 and Photoshop CS5 with ACR 6.4 to handle the new T3i. These two versions are in beta, right now, from Adobe Labs. Time to upgrade.
If you don't want to upgrade the alternative is to use the DNG Converter, and convert your CR2s to DNGs. These will be readable by older versions of LR and ACR.
The DNG Converter that supports the T3i is the DNG Converter 6.4 Release Candidate from Adobe Labs:

Lightroom Raw and CR2 from my new 70d
I just purchased my very own Canon 70d. I find that the RAW module I have in Photoshop Elements 9 is not compatible with the .CR2 raw files my new camera generates, nor can the Organizer recognize the .CR2 format. I wanted to find out what the differences are between the RAW module appropriate for Elements 12 and Lightroom 5. I have not been able to find any specifics on the differences between the two. I get generic statemenst like "It's better." What does it do and in what way? I am a very techincal kind of guy and like specs when I can get them.
Could someone point me in the right direction, either what the differences are or where I can read about them?

TonyI cannot give you the technical information that you might be searching for. But I can tell you that raw editing using Lightroom gives you far more flexibility than it will with any version of Photoshop Elements. You have additional "tabs" in Lightroom that give you more control over your image. Tone curve, hue/saturation adjustments, etc. I cannot give you a complete list because I have never used Camera Raw using Photoshop Elements. Additionally, the Process Version 2012 that you would have in Lightroom 5 offers the radial filter that I don't believe is available in any version of Photoshop Elements. If you upgraded to the latest version of Photoshop Elements you would have the new process version. But some of the features in Camera Raw will not be available. I think choosing Lightroom would be a good choice, but you need to take time to watch some tutorials so you understand how it works.

I have Lightroom 3 and have downloaded the DNG CONVERTER 8 7 1 to be able to open my CR2 files from my new canon 7d, however It still will not open my images

I have PS CS5. It does not recognize .CR2 files from my new Canon PowerShot SX50HS camera. Can I update my CR plugin? To what version? Where can I get it?

I have photoshop CS4 with the newest update. I'm a photographer and just purchased the new canon 7d mk II. Today, I shot some photos on raw but am unable to pull them up in photoshop. A window pops up saying "photoshop cannot recognize this type of file. The thumbnails are white with a blue and white CR2 on them. Please help.

The problem is that your new camera is supported by ACR 8.7 and only Photoshop CS6 and up supports this version.
So if you do not want to buy CS6 or subscribe to the $10/month Photography Program, you have to convert the CR2 files to DNG to work on them. Your original CR2s are untouched in the process, you just can't directly edit them in CS4, only the DNGs.
Maybe Canon offers editing software for their CR2s, but CS4 is not going to be updated and there is no way around that.
It's not what you want to hear, but that's the situation so far.
Maybe Elements or Lightroom has updated raw support for your camera, so I encourage you to visit those forums and ask.

You need the 8.2 version of the ACR module, and PS10 is too old to be updated.
So, you can choose between 3 solutions:
- update PSE to PSE12
- use the Canon software to convert the raw files to the tiff format which PSE10 can handle
- download and install the free Adobe DNGconverter which is able to convert a whole folder of CR2 raw files to the Adobe DNG raw format which PSE10 can handle.
The last two solutions are free. -
Unsupported Image Format when inporting from my new Canon 400D (KISS X) CAM
Could someone please tell me why Apeture is giving me the Unsupported Image Format notice when trying to view and import Raw images from my new Canon 400D camera? I can view the photos on my Canon software. Is it possible that just becase the file is 10.1 MP on my new cam instead of the 8mp that my rebel XT (350D) was that Apeture can not use the format? If in fact this is the case, what can i do to get the 300 plus photos that I just shot at a paid photo shoot into Apertue and still be able to work with them raw?
I would be grateful for any help I can get.

StanTwo problems with this workflow:
1) A 16 bit TIFF file is 52 megabytes. Ouch. Reading them bogs down my little MacBook like you wouldn't believe. I may have to work with JPEG or, god forbid, use Photoshop until Apple's devs can get support for the XTi
2) Aperture seems unable to figure out the colour balance of the TIFF files. I added a bit of saturation and colour correction (working in the Adobe RGB space) in Canon DPP, but Aperture seems to totally screw up on these files. http://images.dasmegabyte.org/wine_tour/large-37.html almost no detail at all in those bins (plenty in the RAW) and I had to boost the gamma on the web gallery by 1.2x so they didn't look fire engine red.

I did the camera raw update and downloaded the dng software.I also downloaded the adobe app manager. I am not sure where to go from here. Do I have to upgrade to ps 12 or is there a way to make this work?

If going to Help -> Updates doesn't work, try a manual update.

How many times can you install Lightroom 5? My problem is that I have saved my programs on C. To I have more space, I want to save my programs now on E. Can I now uninstall Lightroom and reinstall from C to E? Can I use the same license code as the first installation?Thank you for your answers, it helps me a lot.

I have an iPhone 4 thats i was trying to fix and now it will not turn on at all is there anyway that i can access my pictures and contacts from my new phone or pc? Aslo the are both on the same apple id but i dont know if that would help or not.
Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.
Pictures taken with the device are designed to regularly be copied off the device to a computer as would be done with any digital camera.
If you have failed to use the device as designed it may be too late to recovery anything.
Is the device regularly backed up to a computer via iTunes? If so, the most recent backup (when restored to a replacement iOS device) should contain all contacts and pictures as of when the backup was created. -
Images I move from one folder into another are disappearing, at first it was occurring immediately and only if I did not copy and paste the images. Today however I found out that images I had been using for days just up and vanished from their new location. A few of these images had copies in another folder that remained and the ones I couldn't find may or may not have ever had copies. I had backed up my system with time machine recently as well, so I went into the backup to retreive the lost images. When I searched and found the backup copies I got the error "the file alias cannot be opened because the original cannot be located". The crazy thing is that the images that remained on my computer did not give me the same error and opened like they should.
In short images that I am creating, saving, and using are disapearing so epically that even time machine versions are affected when retrieval is attempted. Any suggestions as to what I could be doing wrong without realizing it? Or perhaps other people have had similar bugs that are software related and have a solution?Hi Kevin,
I understand what you tried to do but it doesn't work that way. Swapping drive names will just mess things up.
You should be able to reconnect the files though: in the Locate Referenced Files dialog make sure you click the Show Reconnect Options button — this will give you access to all the connected drives. Locate one of the files and hit Reconnect All. Should do the trick.

If the camera is listed here OS X Lion: Supported digital camera RAW formats or here Mac OS X v10.6: Supported digital camera RAW formats then the raw image file is supported by Aperture.
If the camera is not listed then as Keith wrote if it produces JPG's they can be imported into Aperture.
If you told us what camera you were interested in it might help.

i broke my iphone and got a new one. My iCloud backup has a backup from the old phone and one from the new phone. The new phone didnt download everything from the original icloud backup. Is there a way to download the stuff i didnt get back? please help
You'll have to do another restore from the old phone backup. But before doing that, tell us what was not restored. For example is it just photos that didn't get restored? If so, that seems to be a common problem for many users, judging by the posts left in the forum. There doesn't seem to be a solution to that problem (other then to tell users to ALWAYS sync photos to a computer and never trust an iCloud backup/restore to save photos.

RAW files from my new Canon SL1 to Lightroom?
I just bought a new Canon Rebel SL1 as a second, lightweight camera. But I just discovered my Lightroom won't recognize my RAW files. Is there an update or plug-in to let me do this?
You don't say which version of Lightroom you're running, but I'd assume 3 (or lower) as this camera model was first supported in LR 4.4 according to the Lightroom Journal blog.
So you either need to purchase an upgrade (current version is 5.5 - and has a significant number of improvements over LR 3/2/1), or start using the free DNG converter provided by Adobe to convert your files into DNGs which can then be read by the version you have. There's an FAQ on this right here in the Lightroom forum.
