Lightroom autodetct PSE7

i have just installed lightroom 2.0 ( which immediately upgraded to 2.5) and My PSE7 is not recognized/found by lightroom. In the preferences dialog under Eternal editing tab it says photshop (not detected) I was under the impression that Photoshop and elements seemlessly integrated into Lightroom automatically. ...... Why doe mine not do this, any clues?
I also tried adding PSE7 as an additional editor, but that only sort of worked it did not seem very satisfactory as all of the photoshop Edit In options remained grayed out and on closing the file in elements the changed file did not return to lightroom.
I have tried tech support but I sem to be haveing a problem submitting a reply to their questions< I have used the portal and the opened th case number replied 3 times and it still says waiting my respone
I noticed in one of the forums that PSE7 catalogs cannot be imported to lightroom due to a realease timeing issue, is my problem related?

I am slightly confused by some of the comments here.
I am running LR2.5 on Vista (Dell Ispiron 1545)
Installed PE7 a week or so ago and LR has picked it up as primary editor without any issue.
I was expecting to use it as a secondary editor, buI do not have to.
Sorry to add a little confusion to the equation.
Is it the order or addition LR first then PE 7?

Lightroom 2.0 versus PhotoElements 7 ?

Hi,
I have about 20,000 digital photos on disk organised in folders named yyyy-mm-dd-eventname. I need something better to organise and catalog them, edit where necessary, and maybe do slide shows (although I am thinking of ProShow Gold for that). The two obvious choices seem to be Lightroom 2 or Photoshop Elements 7 (AFAIK, easier to use, much cheaper and appears to be better for editing - lots of fancy new easy to use editing tools have been added).
From what I can see, PSE7 seems to fit the bill, but lots of people seem to rave about Lightroom. Why ? Is there a detailed comparison of Lightroom and PSE7 features available anywhere, or can anyone here give me some pointers ?
If I go for PSE7, and migrate to Lightroom 2 later - will it import all the tag library correctly (ie. preserve tags, and category hierarchies etc.) - Are the two compatible in that way ?

I didnt really understand this until I checked it out on the web - eg. demo at http://www.vimeo.com/613582. I'm not sure how much use this would be to me though - do you have to have lots of *the same* photo to make use of this - why would someone want to adjust the contrast, colors etc on large batches of photos that were different? I rarely take more than two or three shots of the same scene, so I suspect this (often quoted) LR feature wont be any use to me.

I tend to agree with this comment after the first hour or so playing with both trial versions.

I dont fully understand the above comment, and I cant find much info on the extent of the PSE7 support for RAW, but The Adobe website page for PSE7 says that you can "Enjoy enhanced support for working with raw files"..."Get the highest quality results by performing nondestructive editing on the raw image files from your digital camera. Enjoy fine control over lighting and color adjustments, and save time by applying the same set of adjustments across multiple raw images simultaneously you can even see batch-applied changes as they're made. And now, edit raw files from a greater selection of camera models. ". I havnt shot anything in RAW format yet, so I guess it's less of an issue for me unless I start using RAW from now on.
All in all, it seems that for me (amateur, but with lots of images) if I only buy one tools PSE7 is probably better. The organiser seems easier to use, and the localised editing (and easy-to-use quick-fixes) seems suited to digital editing newbies. I don't mind saving edited photos under a different name (or overwriting the original) if necessary. RAW I'm not sure about yet though.

Workflow Interface between Lightroom 2 and PSE7 - Resources?

Hi, I'm a new member, and a new user of both PSE7 and Lightroom 2.3. I love the organising and raw processing capacity of LR, and need PSE7 for simple filters, layers etc. CS4 would be expensive overkill for my needs.
I am looking for resources:- manuals/podcasts/articles/tutorials to instruct me how to use the two together - preferably in Windows speak.
There's loads of wonderfully helpful info around about LR - which I'm soaking up - and there's similarly loads about PSE7, but when it comes to the work flow interface most sources focus on combining Photoshop CS3/4 and LR. Fundamentally the interfaces aren't hugely different, but there are differences and they are frustrating to bump up against.
For example it's no longer possible to upgrade catalogs from PSE7 to LR2, whereas it was from PSE6 and is from CS. And in the Photo - "Edit In" dialogue in LR, CS4 is a default - to set up PSE7 I had to choose preferences specifying PSE7's editor.exe as I would for any 3rd party editor. (Am I right in thinking that earlier LR versions had Elements as a default external editor?)
I almost feel as a user that I'm being steered away from combining PSE7 and Lightroom 2 (I do have slightly paranoid tendencies though)
I am making headway, and extracting pieces of useful information from different places, but would find it extremely helpful to have something coherent that would take me through the process. (Maybe there's a slim volume there for someone.)

I think you may have hit a nerve with this. When I was trying to decide between the two, the Adobe Sales Person couldn't even explain the differences. I now know that the Lightroom nondestructive editing and great organizing capabilities are what I want, but I also have both. As you said, there are many books on each, and several on PS and LR2, but none on this combo. I like the Photoshop.com program, and will like it more when they figure out that Friends should be able to see all your shared albums without using single email links for each album. I hope you get an informed response, and I'll ride your coattails!

Unable to view TIF files saved in pse7 on a Mac

Hello! I burnt a few TIF files (downloaded as RAW files from camera via Lightroom 2.5, then converted to 8 bit TIF via pse7) onto CD. I was able to view the images on another pc but not on a Mac. Is there anything I can do? Maybe change settings on the Mac? Many thanks!

It's most likely the settings you used for burning. Try burning a disc using Joliet, or just using the built-in burning capability in Explorer and see if you still have the same problem.

Import Catalogue Elements 7 to Lightroom 2

Hello here from Germany !
I have a problem with importing an PS-Elements 7 Katalogue to Lightroom 2.
I have about 10000 pics in Elements, all with keywords, all in a very detailed catalogue. But I found out, that Lightroom 2 has much better possibilities to work very fast with the pics.
And of course I don't want to rebuild the complete catalogue in Lightroom, would last some weeks
Is there a possibilty to import it?

At this time, Lightroom 2 does not import PSE7 catalogs. We expect that this capability will be available in future releases of Lightroom.

Help with upgrading from Photoshop Elements to Lightroom 3

Any tutorials/books/best practices on upgrading from PSE to LR 3? I have thousands and thousands of photos in PSE, and I'm sure the upgrade is not as transparent and smooth as Adobe promotes it to be.
Any suggestion, advice or past experience will be greatly appreciated.

Lightroom detects if your computer has a Photoshop Elements catalog and can import photos and data from the PSE catalog into a new Lightroom catalog. Lightroom imports photos and data from Photoshop Elements 6 and later on Windows. Lightroom imports photos and data from Photoshop Elements 9 on Mac OS.

In the Library module, choose File > Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog.The Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog dialog box displays the most recently opened Photoshop Elements 6 (PSE6), Photoshop Elements 7 (PSE7), or Photoshop Elements 8 (PSE8), or Photoshop Elements 9 (PSE9) catalog.
To choose a different PSE catalog, click the Photoshop Elements drop-down menu.
To change the destination of the new Lightroom catalog, click Change and navigate to a different folder.

Photoshop Elements 7.0 migration to Lightroom 5

I currently use PS Elements 7.0 on a PC running Windows XP. My catalog has about 32,000 images in it which are tagged and organized. I obviously do not want to lose that organizational structure which took a long time to establish when I move to a new platform.
I am planning on migrating to a new iMac running OS X Mountain Lion with Lightroom 5 and am looking for the best way to accomplish this. I have read that Lightroom will support photo and data import from PSE 6 through 10 in Windows, but only PSE 9 through 10 in Mac OS. What is the best way to proceed with this upgrade? I can see three options:
1. Install Lightroom 5 on the old PC and perform the data import from PSE 7 to LR 5 there, then install LR5 on the Mac and migrate the LR data to the Mac.
2. Upgrade PSE 7 to PSE 10 on the PC, transfer the PSE 10 and data to the Mac, and then install LR5 on the Mac and migrate the data.
3. Transfer PSE 7 and data from the PC to the Mac, then install LR5 on the Mac and try the data migration (don't like this one!)
Any input on best/easiest approach? Thanks!

Lightroom 5 will not install on WIndows XP.
So that's not an option.
I have not heard that the Mac version of Lightroom can only import PSE9 and PSE10 catalogs; and I am highly skeptical. In fact, I believe your statement is incorrect. Can you provide a link to where you heard this?
If I were you, I'd separate the "move to the Mac", from the issue of upgrading the PSE7 catalog to a LR catalog. You are just asking for problems if you combine these two. Once things are in Lightroom and working properly, you can move to the Mac.
So, what I would do, is install LR3 (a trial version) on your Windows XP computer, and upgrade the PSE7 catalog to an LR3 catalog. Now that everything is in Lightroom, you should be able to move everything to the Mac, relink if necessary, then upgrade to LR5.

Recommendation Needed Re: Elements 8 and Lightroom V.1 & V.3 Beta

I have ~150+ files on my hard drive holding 250+ photo's each with additional sub -sub categories below that. I have not used keywords to date and admit I now have a mess on my hands, unable to locate what is needed. I have Lightroom v.1 now but have never really used the program (shame on me). I have Elements 7 and intend on getting v.8. I will be purchasing LR V.3 when released as I am under the impression if I work with V.3 Beta, I may not be able to transfer my work to V.3 when released, so here are my questions. (1) Is my last statement true? (21) Should I add keywords in Elements or Lightroom? (2) If in LR, should I do it in LR v.1; v.3 Beta or wait until the final version of LR v.3? (3) is it easier to add key words in Elements or LR?
My goal is to do it in the most expedious manner and would really like to start digging myself out of my 'self made' hole right away. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

In my opinion, I would use LR3b if keywording is your main activity before purchasing LR3 in a couple months. Support for PSE catalogs has been spotty in LR.
The LR3B release notes say it will be able to read LR1, LR2, and LR3b catalogs, so perhaps any of those versions' keywords would come across.
Of course if LR3 has some innovation in keywording hat people have been requesting, you might wish you would have waited.
If you want to experiment with the current keyword-import capabilities between Elements and LR2, then you can download an dinstall the LR2 trial, with the understanding it'll expire in 30 days.
PSE8 came out way after LR2 so I doubt LR2 can import PSE8 catalogs, but if LR2 cannot import PSE7 catalogs, then I wouldn't expect LR3 would be that much better, but who knows.
If your photos are all JPGs and PSE can write keywords inot the JPGs, then that is a different story from LR importing a PSE catalog, directly. You have some experimentation to do. You could even try to see what LR3b does with PSE7 JPGs with embedded keywords.

How can I get correct English spelling in Lightroom 3 (UK/Canada)

I tried to download the software from the UK site and the Canadian one but it kept sending me to the US site. All I want is the 'u' in colour! Is there proper spelling in another version out there and if so, how can I get it instead?

As brilliantly suggested by Dorin above, I modified a number of 'en' translation files in the Lightroom 3 installation. I didn't have the 'en' directory under the 'Resources' directory but found that if I created this directory and put another translation file in it, Lightroom picked it up when loading.
All I ended up having to do was to add the specific lines I wanted modified. For anyone interested, here are the contents of that file so far. There may be minor mistakes as nothing translates from another language perfectly.

Win PSE7 Camera Raw Problem

Hi,
When I was using Elements 5 and CS3, I was able to open JPG files in the Camera Raw editor by viewing the files in elements organiser and sending them to CS3 for editing.
Now I've upgraded to Elements 7 this doesn't happen. How can I regain this functionality???

A possible solution is the following:
1) Use PSE editor to conduct raw adjustments.
2) Upon completion open file
3) After file openned, select edit in PS CS(3).
I had this exact problem right after loading PSE7. I always use PS to do my editing - cause I have it. Because I considered this a major flaw, and it continued the downward trend in integration between PSE and PS (started with PSE6), I have finally moved away from PSE (for now).
After purchasing Lightroom 2, I noted it exhibits same issue so I believe there is a connection between PSE7 upgrade and LR functionality. The real difference being LR has ACR as part of the package and all you have to do is toggle between Library and Development to conduct the ACR adjustments (vs launching editor). One can argue ACR is part of PSE too, but it just doesn't feel like it, particularly if one is using PSE soley for the organiser (like I do) and only as a "front" for PS.
Integration wise, I prefer the Lightroom method for now. Since I'm new to LR, I have more stuff to learn/digest before I jettison PSE.

PSE7: Naming scheme for import without spaces?

Hi all,
just upgraded to photoshop elements 7 (from 2 :-) ) and have a question on the naming schemes available to put imported photos into subfolders named by date: The offered options in the drop down (Photo downloader - Create Subfolders by date) all include spaces between year month and day values. Up to now my format was yyyymmdd (all without spaces) and the newly created folders would not sort properly anymore.
So is there a way to have PSE7 create subfolders based on the date WITHOUT the spaces. I had a trial version of Lightroom 2 and there it is possible, however Lightroom is much to "big" for my needs.

Install Lightroom on second computer?

How do I contact Adobe to get a second copy of Lightroom to install on a second computer? It says you can do this with one license, but they don't say how to contact Adobe to get the second copy. I tried using my serial number when the trial was over and it does not work.

Hi,
I just bought LR2 through the online store. I have installed it on my desk top and my lap top. I used the same ser. # for both installs and had no problem at all. I also installed pse7 from disc on both machines with no problem. I dont have the reason why it is not working for you. you should be able to do what you want. The only thing I can think of is if you had one machine running the program while you were trying to install the other one the install may have been stopped because you can only use one machine at a time.

Runtime error in starting Lightroom

I receive the following message when I try to start Lightroom:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program:...Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.2\lightroom.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
Lightroom ran well for several days and then failed to open with the above message.
I have tried everything I know to do (uninstalled and reinstalled the application, restored the computer to a restore point before Lightroom was originally installed, etc.) and do not know were to go from here. Suggestions would be appreciated.
I am using Windows XP sp2 and have 4 GB of ram and 250 GB of hard disk space.

Lightroom imports photos to wrong folder

I've been importing lots of photos from my hard drive into lightroom and been moving/renaming them in the process. I only got lightroom a few weeks ago.
This has worked fine but i've recently imported a few hundred photos off my iphone and doing the same thing - move and rename. The trouble is, these photos keep going into the 2009 folder, instead of the 2012 or 2013 folders that they should be. When i look at the photos, they have the correct name, and the capture date seems to be correct, its just lightroom keeps wanting to put them in the wrong folder by year. Does anyone understand why this might be happening?
naturally I want all my photos sorted into the right date folders as this is the way ive decided to organise my photos...

hmm so still not making sense. it keeps wanting to import my photos into the wrong destination. have removed all the photo from lightroom. how do i change it so it automatically puts the photos into the corresponding year/month they were taken..
I understand its something in the import settings/destination but cant seem to change this. not sure what parts of the import box your wanting to see Dj.
the structure now is my pictures/2009/21-7-09 then its creating new year folders and sorting them within this 21-7-9 folder..
can't see to change this?
