Lightroom brighter than nikon view

Windows Vista, lightroom 2.3, nikon d300 shooting raw images. Monitor calibrated using spyder3
If I open an image in nikon view and compare it to lightroom, the lightroom version is significantly brighter than the nikon view display even though the histograms look the same. When the full size view initially pops up in lightroom, it looks the same, but when it finishes rendering it, it suddenly jumps brighter. If I export the image from lightroom to a jpg and compare its histogram to the orginal in nikon view, the exported jpg histogram is significantly slid to the right and no longer matches the one lightroom (or nikon view) orginally displayed for the image. Color and tone seem pretty close. My question - is there some setting that lightroom is using that bumps up the brightness or is it just the difference in the programs? I love lightroom, but its display and the proofs it exports just aren't as good as I'm getting from nikon view

  • Preview Panel Appears Brighter than Loupe View In Develop Module

    Settings and Hardware:
    - Macintosh 15" Power Book G4
    - Lightroom Version 2.1
    - Attached Apple Cinema Display
    - Mac OSX 10.4.11
When viewing Lightroom on the PowerBook monitor all is well and the Preview Pane shows the same brightness value. Yet when the Lightroom interface is brought over to the Cinema Display the Preview pane in the Develop Module is significantly brighter than the main image in the Loupe View.
Any help with getting the value of the Preview Pane to the same brightness value of the Loupe view would be of help. Or if there is a simple explanation as to why this happens, that would also be appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Jarrod.

Monitors should be calibrated at around 120 cd/m2. This is usualy around 2/3 brightness for Cinema displays and around 4 to 5 clicks back from maximum on a mac book Pro. If you don't, you'll think all your prints are far too dark.
    >being a different luminance than the loupe view image on the same monitor
huh? I thought you were comparing between monitors?
Lightroom might not realize that you moved the entire interface to a different monitor and use the wrong profile or it forgets to use the different profile for the preview. This is very common even in managed apps. Lightroom does have a nice dual monitor interface now that uses the correct profiles for both monitors, but I don't think it likes the main window being dragged over.

  • Why are files viewed in Bridge a lot brighter than Mac Finder window?

Why do my camera raw files appear a lot brighter when viewed in Adobe Bridge than when viewed in the Mac Finder Window?  Like a lot brighter.  I'm not really sure which is the 'correct' brightness. Thanks!

    No one?
Bridge shows the raw files according to the settings you have applied in ACR or if you have not applied any it shows the default ACR settings. The finder uses the embedded jpeg preview to show the contents of the raw file.
Without a screenshot it is hard to judge your situation but also check your Camera Raw settings (under Adobe Bridge menu see camera raw prefs) and in the default image settings be sure to have the option 'apply auto tone adjustments' unchecked.

  • ACR 4.6 Nikon D90 vs Nikon  VIEW NX colors/exposure/brightness

Went from a D80 to a D90. Downloaded ACR 4.6 and all of the beta camera profiles for the D90 a month ago or so. When I view my NEF's in Nikon View NX the colors/exposure is fine. When I view them for the D90 in ACR, they are a little washed out. When I converted a couple of NEF's to DNG it appears the results are better, but I don't know if that would hold true for all. I do not want to convert everything to DNG though, plus it does not appear that DNG files can be viewed in View NX.
Haven't put enough hours into researching this yet to figure out if I'm just going to have to convert every NEF file in ACR 4.6 or spring for NX2 and start using that as a supplement-which I really, really do not want to do-but the NEF's look fine there.
I'm holding off buying a new computer until the new PC OS systems come out and at that time assume CS5 will be out by then and will upgrade that also.
Was anyone built a camera preset for the D90 to combat this problem with CS3 ACR 4.6 or encountered the same? Just looking for any input. I've only had the camera a little over a month. (Using XP) Thank you.

Both original NEF raws and DNG from those same raws really should appear the same in Camera Raw 4.6. The only potential difference is whether or not you've actually selected one of the other DNG Profiles in a D90 raw and made that the ACR "default". ACR and DNG Converter share the same "defaults". So, what profile is selected in the Calibration panel with a D90 raw? Which one looks better (from the drop down list)? If you like one of the others you can change the ACR default to be that newly selected profile...

  • Images in CS4 are Brighter than LR 2.4

I'm using both CS4 and Lightroom 2.4 on a Mac with an external (calibrated) monitor. Images opened in CS4 are significantly brighter than the same ones in Lightroom. What could cause this?
    Thanks

There is a bug in CS4 that causes PS to use the wrong profile on external displays in certain circumstances. You can test whether this is the problem by disabling the OpenGL acceleration. To do this, go to Preferences->performance and disable the openGL checkbox. If this fixes it, check in the advanced checkbox whether color matching is enabled and if not, enable it and reenable openGL acceleration. This bug doesn't always show up and for some reason it has not been fixed yet even though Adobe is well aware of it.
Lastly, you indeed need to calibrate both your screens with a calibrator, but you already knew that I am sure. LUT based profiles have some minor issues (most notably shadow posterization) in Lightroom as the other poster noted but you are unlikely to notice it.

  • More than one view with iphone SDK.

    Hi
I'm trying to make more than one view in Interface Builder and then switch between them in xcode. But I can not figure it out.
I tryed reading guides, watching tutorials, but with no luck.
Can anyone here give me a small tutorial on how do that?

Your best bet is to look through the code (and xib files) distributed by Apple. I was in much the same position a couple of months ago, except my expertise was in JEE. It is really not that difficult to get going. Just a regular Cocoa development book can also help you (it helped me understand how to get going).
Here is what you will start with
ApplicationDelegate - Will be connected by default in your primary xib file. For simple applications that is all you need. If you need multiple views, you can still make the primary nib file you primary view and lay it out as you need. Add methods as appropriate to remove current view and display next view you want.
Xxx.nib - Your primary xib file. Layout out as required. Create a UIViewController and connect to the File's Owner. That connects your controller to the view. Make connections to the view components in the xib file, event handlers etc. It is not difficult, but IMO IB is not very intuitive, though you will get the hang of it very quickly.

  • Photo rotaion in organize view different than edit view & slideshow

Photo rotaion in organize view different than edit view & slideshow. The fact that the power supply to the computer was accidentally disconnected while I was working in iPhoto no doubt was the cause of this phenom.
Any suggestions as to how to re-sync the rotations back up?

Thanks for the tip. I wasn't aware of the use of theses two keys simultaneously. It occured to me after this post to just trash the whole library which I had just created for this particular group of photos and re-import the photos to a newly re-created library. I still had the camara connected so as it turned out it was fairly easy. Now that I think about it, if this hadn't been a newly created library just for this group of photos it wouldn't have worked so simply, so I guess I discovered another benifit for having multiple libraries.
I'm glad you recomended the apple/alt key combo though as this knowledge no-doubt will come in handy at some time.

  • Copy does not show File 2 metadata in Nikon View NX

A picture opened in Photoshop CS4 11.0.1 and saved as a copy jpeg (after color correction) when opened in Nikon View NX 1.5.2 does not show the

    Macbook Pro 2.16gHz OSX10.5.6 gRAID 2TB.

Well the problem is that, in Windows, the menu bar is owned by the application. When you view the PDF in the browser, the browser owns the menu bar and chooses what to show. Hence it shows only the browser items and not the Reader menus. If you view it outside the browser, Reader is running stand-alone and shows it's menu items.
I think, all you can do is show make sure the button bars you want are exposed by default.

  • Macbook Pro keyboard keys brighter than others?

One of the keys on my keyboard is brighter than the other. Key #4. Anyone know why that would happen? Thanks

    Hi robina58,
Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like something with the backlight of a key. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

  • Screen Issues: Strip of extra brightness? Corners brighter than others?

I got my iMac back in August (just before the 24" came out, I'm kicking myself in the butt for it) and back then I noticed that the top-right corner and bottom-left corner were slightly brighter than the other two corners, but didn't think much of it. Now it seems to have gotten worse, and by worse I mean there's a kind of strip of brightness in the top-right corner.
Here's a contrast-enhanced image to show you what I mean:

Here's another contrast-enhanced image to show you what I mean by two corners being brighter:

Should I bring it in? and if I do bring it in, what are the odds of losing my data? (I'm getting an external HD for xmas, I'm wondering if I should ask for it early and use it before sending it in or not)

Ok, I'm going to try and help you, but when I put a post explaining what this problem was, AS APPLE TOLD ME THEMSELVES, my post was removed. I then added a thread to another post trying to share what I'd been told, and that was removed. So I have low hopes for this attempt...
What you have is backlight leakage or backlight bleeding. it happens mainly when an LCD panel has not been properly sealed and the backlight escapes. If you can live with it, fine, but if you can't then I suggest going for a replacement or getting an engineer to fix it.

  • Why are the compiled SWF colors brighter than in Flash CC while programming

Just a quick question, when I open the SWF with FlashPlayer the colors are brighter than in Flash CC while programming, why is that?
Left part is in Flash CC right side is the compiled SWF opened with FlashPlayer.

Flash uses the sRGB color space. If your original art was created using a different color space then the colors will look shifted.

  • 6600's display is 2 times brighter than N80...

    Hi guys,
Did you ever noticed that the 6600 is brighter than N80??
please compare these 2 phones display brightnesses..
you can compare it by swiching on the both phones at the same time...
or you can create a white jpg file and open the file in the phone...
if you could write your comments here i will be gratefull...

You are right. Even at maximum brightness on both the 6600 seems brighter. Not twice as bright but clearly much brighter. But to even it out the N80 has a much clearer screen so the brightness level doesn't matter as much.
Is that an N95 in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?!?

  • Output is much brighter than preview

    Hello,
I have a problem with video output. As you can see on picture below, output is brighter than preview. I'm using LUTs and export is H.264 with no calibration or auto correct. Is there any way to have same output as a preview? It's really annoying to experiment with it - it mainly waste a lots of time.
    Thanks.

    Hey Filip,
the "brightness" you see is cause by the quicktime gamma shift.
Please activate "automatic color calibration" during render to get a right result OR add a LUT-Layer with a 'Quicktime_gamme.ilut'
automatic color calibration feature compares input & output and automatically calculates and apply a correction lut to prevent gamma shifts.
    Hope that helps,
    Duy-Anh

No, you can either upgrade to LR4 or use Adobe's free DNG Converter to work with your images in LR3 as DNGs.
