Lightroom cannot find Photoshop as primary external editor

I have loaded photoshop and lightroom on my computer but, in the preferences dialogue window, lightroom says "photoshop not found" under the primary image editing option. I can find photoshop and set it as my alternate external editor but I can find no way to find and set photoshop as my primary. I would like to do that and then set Capture Nx as my alternate. Any suggestions? or do I have to re-install Lightroom?

Have look at this Adobe tech note:

(Try solution 2 first if it is Windows Xp instead of reinstalling Photoshop as suggested by solution 1.)

  • Photoshop CS5, primary external editor

Well, I'm going to try this again. I posted the question once before, but nobody answered. I have tried to search but haven't found what I need. And, admittedly, I haven't paid attention when it has been answered in the past because I didn't think it would never affect me. I have been using Photoshop CS3 along with my Lightroom 3. No problems, no complaints. But now I'm going to move to Photoshop CS5. Consequently the question: should I just uninstall Lightroom and then install Photoshop CS5 followed by reinstalling Lightroom? I want CS5 to be the primary external editor. Photoshop CS3 will still be on my computer. Or, I guess the easiest question is, what is the simplest way to have Lightroom see Photoshop CS5 as the primary external editor? I apologize for having to ask this question.

Typically, the last installed Adobe editing application will take precedence, although Windows XP can misbehave. Therefore, install CS5 after Lr.

  • Lightroom 3 does not see Photoshop CS5 as Primary EXTERNAL editor

After removing prior versions of Lightroom (2.7) and Photoshop (CS4), Lightroom 3 does not recognize Photoshop CS5 64 bit or 32 bit as the PRIMARY external editor.  I can select the file and edit in the proper file, but the other options are greyed out.

Missing Registry entry caused by uninstalling CS4 AFTER installing CS5.

  • Lightroom 1.2 has lost Photoshop CS3 as external editor

In Lightroom 1 I used Photoshop CS2 as external editor and lightroom has found it with the first choice of external editors.
In Lightroom 1.1 I used Photoshop CS3 as external editor and lightroom has also found CS3 in the first choice of external editors. CS2 was deinstalled.
Now I have Lightroom 1.2 and this version doesn't automatically find cs3. I have only installed lightroom 1.2 and have nothing done with the installation of cs3.
How can I solve the problem, because I want to have two external editors?

Try the following link. The upgrade to 1.2 lost track of CS3 for me too. I fixed it by editing the registry as outlined in the article.

  • Setting the Primary External Editor in LR4

How can I set the primary External Editor in LR4?  I recently  upgraded to CS5.5, then uninstalled CS5 and now Lightroom thinks it should use CS4 which is not longer installed.  I've unstalled and reinstalled LR4 and nothing changed.  I deleted the preferences file and nothing changed.
Why isn't there an easy way to change this setting?
    David

    Winner, Winner, chicken dinner!
Thanks so much trshaner.  A modified Solution 2 from the link you provided below fixed it  i.e. The Photoshop.exe Key was already there, so I just changed it to point to the CS5.5 path.  woala!

  • Elements 8 Organiser won't load Photoshop CS5 as external editor

For some years I've succesfully used Photoshop CS2 with Elements (various versions) Organiser as my photo file manager.  The Organiser allowed me to select Photoshop as the external editor and subsequently accepted/managed the edited photos from Photoshop when I closed the file there.  (I prefer the facilities of Organiser to those of Bridge; and other folk in the household prefer Elements Editor).
I recently upgraded from Photoshop CS2 to CS5 64bit.  Initially Elements 8 Organiser (which is 32bit) continued to call up Photoshop (CS5) as the external editor but has now ceased to do so.  There is still an option in Organiser's dropdown EDIT list to "Edit in Photoshop" and any thumbnails selected in the Organiser get the "being edited" label applied if I select the "Edit with Photoshop" option.  However, Photoshop does not open;  or, if I have Photoshop open already, the photos selected in Organiser do not appear in the Photoshop workspace for editing.
I cannot, either, find the "close external edit" option in Organiser. When I eventually close Organiser, it warns that I will lose any editing done with the external editor to those photos it thinks it has handed to Photoshop, even though there has not been any handover in fact.
I can chose, in Organiser, to edit the very same photos with Elements Editor, even though Organiser appears to think that they are currently being edited by Photoshop.  If I do edit such a photo in Elements Editor then close it, the Organiser becomes happy and forgets it thought Photoshop was involved at all.
Is there some switch in a config file somewhere that I can throw to get the Organiser to actually call up Photoshop and hand it the file(s)?  Or is this just an Adobe glitch?  Any help or clues would be much appreciated.
    Lataxe

    Graham,
I have tried to persuade Elements Organiser to reconsider Photoshop as an external editor by going to the "Editing" section of Elements Preferences dialogues and specifying Photoshop.exe.  However, no matter which version of Photoshop.exe I point at (64bit CS5, 32bit CS5 or even the old 32bit CS2) Elements tells me that it automatically already has Photoshop as an external editor and I don't need to specify it as such.
On trying to exit the Preferences/Editing dialogue, Elements then pops up another dialogue box that tells me that "The path you chose for the external editing application is invalid.  Please correct the path or choose another external editor".  I need to uncheck the "Use a supplementary editing application" to stop this box re-popping.
The Elements EDIT drop down menu still shows Photoshop as an available editing application.  However, as described in the original post, Photoshop does not load or pick up any file specified for Photoshop editing within Elements Organiser.
I've also tried resetting Elements Organiser Preferences to their default.  This does not make any difference to the problem either.  There is an Organiser glitch I think.  I am begining to think it will need a Registry fix ..... but of what I have no real idea; and it isn't a good idea to mess with the Registry in a haphazard way.
Perhaps I should try a reload of Elements from scratch, after saving my Catalogue file somewhere safe?

  • HOW TO MANUALLY CHOOSE PRIMARY EXTERNAL EDITOR

How can I manually choose the primary external editor? Currently, it's chosen automatically. Is there a Registry fix?
I use XP Professional with Lightroom 1.4.1 and Lightroom 2.0 Beta and 2GB RAM on a 3.2ghz Pentium 4 machine.
Why do I need this? Well, it's not so bad with Lightroom 1, but with Lightroom 2 Beta, if Lightroom picks a program other than Photoshop for its "automatic" choice of a primary external editor, then some options for working with Photoshop are greyed out.
Even with Photoshop selected as a secondary external editor, the choices for Merge to HDR, Stack in Layers, Merge to Panorama, Open as Smart Object are greyed out in the context sensitive menu that pops up when I right-click on an image (e.g. in Library Mode).
Uninstalling the program that Lightroom manually picks only leave an error message for the primary external editor that Photoshop isn't found, even though it's installed. I use CS3 Design Premium with Photoshop CS3 Extended.
    What can I do?????

Lightroom always chooses Photoshop as its primary external editor and you are not given a choice in this. It chooses this by looking at value of registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Photoshop\10.0\Application Path. If that key does not exist Lightroom will display message that Phostoshop could not be found and the Edit with Photoshop menu item will not be available.
As regards LR 2 beta and photoshop, there are many threads in the LR2 Beta forum on the issue of missing options in Edit with Photoshop. The consensus there is that you need V10.0.1 to get all the options such as HDR, Smart Object etc. This is the link to LR 2 Beta forum:

Cannot find Photoshop CS6 even though updater informs me it is up-to-date.  OX S 10.9.1.
I go to updater and it says that it is up-to-date, even though I have uninstalled it.  When I try to reinstall, the download button is available, I click it, which takes me to the updater screen, and informs me that it is up to date, even though it is not in my application folder.  I have ben able to download Lightroom with success, but not Photoshop and other previously downloaded apps.

  • How to change primary external editor

How do I change the primary external editor to Elements 11? It was an old version of PS which I removed and had hoped that since it was no longer available, LR would look for a new one as primary. I already have my Topaz products for the additional external editor. Is it possible to have more than one? If the default choice of LR is unavailable, how do i get LR to look for new one?

Removal of Photoshop has probably left settings in the Registry (if Windows). You can set up as many external editors as you like, so if you can't get it to work as the primary editor, just set it up as another extenal editor. Adobe does have a Cleaner utility to remove old stuff after uninstall. I think there is one for CS3/4 and another for CS5/6. Why uninstallers don't do this in the first place has always puzzled me!

  • Cannot find Photoshop Elements 11.0,exe

I made a mistake by deleting Photoshop Elements 11. I did it not the proper way. Then I tried to instal Photoshop Element over and over again but after installing I cannot open the Welcome screen because a pop up screen appears: I cannot find Photoshop Elements 11.0.exe.
However I can start the program by using 'Photoshop Elements Editor' but when started the program I cannot use 'Organizer'!

    Today I solved the problem.
    1. Every time I removed Photoshop Elements 11.0. I used Revo Uninstaller. After cleaning with Ccleaner and restart the pc I installed Photoshop Elements again. And the samen procedure again (4 times).
    2. This time I used Windows 7 software to remove Photoshop Elements 11.0. And Premiere Elements 11.0 as well. (I use Premiere Elements 12.0).
    3. Cleaning with Ccleaner, restart pc and reinstal Photoshop Elements 11.0.
    4. All necessary files are installed now and PE11.0 works!
Thanks for trying helping me out.
    Best wishes, Cees

As far as version 9 goes, if you never purchased it you shouldn't expect to be able to use it.  If you check your Adobe account online you might be able to find whatever version you purchased identified there.

  • Photoshop Elements12 as external editor for iPhoto

How do I get IPhoto to use Photoshop Elements12 as external editor, when I can not select "Application" under the advance setting, as suggested. It shows PSE12, but the photo's do not open up in that application. The application opens, with no photo. What needs to be changed, and how do I do it?

Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note 1: screenshots are from PSE 10
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • Error while using custom xslt: Cannot find the script or external object that implements prefix 'ScriptNS0'.

    Hi,
We had a complex map. Because of some requirement, we used custom xslt on this map. Somehow at runtime that custom xslt is giving below error:
Cannot find the script or external object that implements prefix 'ScriptNS0'.
I checked below links, it seems this is a bug in Biztalk 2010/Visual stuio 2010.
    http://sandroaspbiztalkblog.wordpress.com/2012/07/29/biztalk-mapper-patterns-calling-an-external-assembly-from-custom-xslt-in-biztalk-server-2010/
The above link suggest to add a xml element in the .btm file. I tried that as well but no luck. Can anyone suggest me reason and solution for this?
    Thanks, Girish R. Patil.

When using the Custom XSLT option, you have to maintain the Extension Xml yourself, just as you would for inline custom Xslt that calls external Assemblies.

  • I have set up photoshop elements as external editor in iPhoto but I cannot get the edited photo to open in iPhoto. When I save the photo Elements asks where do I want to save it and iPhoto is not an option.

I have set up Photoshop Elements11 as the External Editor in iPhoto just as Terence Devlin said. However when I save the edited photo it does not appear in iPhoto. A drop down menu asks where I want to save the photo and I do not know what to choose. Also should I choose, "save" or "save as"? I should be really grateful for your help.

I suggest opening iPhoto and reverting back to iPhoto in the Preferences for photo editing. Quit iPhoto. Restart your Mac for good measure. Open iPhoto and again choose Photoshop Elements in Preferences as the editing app.
As far as editing, I don't have PE, but I have another editing app form the Mac App Store, ColorStrokes. I have been experimenting with using it for editing iPhoto photos and it works flawlessly. After setting ColorStroke as the editing app, I open a photo in iPhoto and click the Edit button in the menu bar below the photo. Color Stoke immediately opens with the photo and I complete my editing. When I have finished editing I choose to Save the photo, leave the name the same and agree to replace the iPhoto photo of the same name. I quit ColorStroke and the photo in iPhoto now has all of my edits from ColorStroke.
Should I decide that I prefer the original photo, I open the photo in iPhoto and choose Revert to Original in the Photos pulldown menu.
