Lightroom Cannot find PSCS3

When I installed Lightroom, I had the PSCS3 beta installed and light room was able to export photos to PSCS3 without problem. Now I removed the Beta and installed the real thing. Unfortunately not it has forgotten where to fine PSCS3. Under External editors, it says "Edit in Adobe Photoshop (not found). How can I fix this? Why isn't there a simple Choose button like there is immediately below?
Thanks,
Dave

I can install CS3 as a secondary editor, but I would like the shortcuts, etc to work. Anyway I tried to "repair" lightroom, but when it starts to repair the program, it stops and asks for disk 1. Lightroom only has 1 disk and it is in the drive. If I take it out and put it back in I still get the same message. Any suggestions?
The problem is most likely related to the fact that Adobe's installer
for CS2 does not do a good job about uninstalling; loads of registry
entries remain in there, leading to conflicts.
Here's a story about it: http://dh2publishing.blogspot.com/ ; several
entries on installing CS3, partly in German, partly in English. Read
the very first, using both languages in one entry.

  • Lightroom cannot find Photoshop as primary external editor

I have loaded photoshop and lightroom on my computer but, in the preferences dialogue window, lightroom says "photoshop not found" under the primary image editing option. I can find photoshop and set it as my alternate external editor but I can find no way to find and set photoshop as my primary. I would like to do that and then set Capture Nx as my alternate. Any suggestions? or do I have to re-install Lightroom?

Have look at this Adobe tech note:

(Try solution 2 first if it is Windows Xp instead of reinstalling Photoshop as suggested by solution 1.)

  • Lightroom 5 for Mac. Joined CC to install filters but cannot find them or failed to appear.

I have just installed Lightroom 5 to enhance my photographic work and decided to check Adobe for any free presets. Having registered with Cloud to enable download I cannot find either a Zip or link to add it to my application.
Adobes guide to install it reveals nothing installed! :
    Where to find it
Make sure you have Adobe's Creative Cloud desktop App (free) installed, log in and sync before clicking the download button. If you experience problems acquiring the product please reboot your computer then re-check your Downloads folder. You can contact me at [email protected]  After installation, the ZIP file (PortraitMatteBWStrongbyalwiDesignLR4LR5.zip) containing the LR preset will be available from your computer's Downloads folder.  1. Open Lightroom and click Lightroom then Preferences on a Mac. On a PC, open Lightroom and click on Edit at the top.
    2. Go to Preferences and click it

    3. The window that pulls up will show 6 different tabs. Click on Presets and open the box called Show Lightroom Presets Folder...

4. A new window pulls up. Double click on Lightroom then double click on Develop Preset(s)
    5. Copy the content of the unzipped files you just downloaded into the folder Develop Presets. That’s it. Restart Lightroom and the Presets are available

    So a few things:
The "lrcat" folder I specified is really whatever folder you named it when you first set the catalog file location.  Whatever you named it, make sure "Wheel" also has read-write permissions, and "Apply to enclosed items".
Check, double check, and triple check that the .plist files in /Library/Preferences continue to exist.  Every time this failed on me, I found them to be missing from the global preferences folder.  I'm not sure if I was copying them with insufficient permissions, or Gatekeeper blocked it, or something in the OS cleaned them up, but once I was SURE they were sticking around even through a reboot; it seemed to good to go.
Don't "replace" copy the /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom folder, just delete it first so there's no folder merging going on - then move the one from the User's Library over.
This should always be the last step: Run LR once more when you're satisfied and make sure the key wasn't lost in the shuffle.  Just re-enter the key if needed, no need to copy all the files again.
Any other insights, updates, or failures are welcome.  Hopefully the next version fixes this as it sounds like is being promised.
Follow Up: Success!  I was able to capture a composer package that does suppress all the start screens for all users, including new ones after the installation.

  • Using Lightroom 5.5:  I can sort images by edit date, but I cannot find a display of the actual time and date of the edit?

Often when working intensely on a large project which spans over days I forget to mark the start and finish time for each session.  When billing clients for time this can create problems.  I thought the perfect solution to this problem would be to sort catalog by edit time, and then by view the time stamps. I could then find the first and and last edit for a session and quickly translate to session time.  The only problem is I cannot find a place with LT displays this information.

It seems to be an oversight in LR -- the metadata field "lastEditTime" is available to plugins via the Lightroom SDK, but you can't use that field to define a custom tagset for displaying in the right-hand-side Metadata panel.
However, here's a workaround that might work for you:  In the right-hand Metadata panel, select the "EXIF and IPTC" preset, and the field Metadata Date will show the date/time of the last time LR wrote metadata back to the file. In Catalog Settings > Metadata, make sure "Automatically write changes into XMP" is checked.  This will cause LR to write develop settings or metadata changes (keywords, captions, ratings, etc.) back to the file soon after you make the changes ("soon after" is typically less than a minute).

In Bridge I cannot find Lightroom as a program to open files. All the other programs like photoshop etc are indicated?

You would go into Preferences > File Type Associations and from the dropdown menu and choose "Browse" to get to Lightroom.
So yes you can set files that Lightroom supports to open from Bridge into Lightroom.
    But I don't think you'd want to.
Lightroom is a standalone product for a Photography workflow. Bridge is a manager for Creative suite products like Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign. Basically web and print design workflows.
Bridge is not a manager for Lr because Lr has it's own catalog system.
Lightroom is not a Creative Suite product.
Bridge does use Adobe Camera Raw to make adjustments, but move those adjusted files into Lr, you have to make a decision whose settings stay.

You are welcome.  Just finished a chat session with an Apple support rep and confirmed the matte option no longer available.  Seems lots has changed since I bought my 17” 19 months back:).  They did say that there were after market screen films available from places like amazon
Have never used anything like that though.  My wife has a 2008 MBP 15” with gloss and I can say it is a nice screen finish, you just have to be careful of lighting from behind you.  All my iMacs were glossy and I did learn to compensate for the added brilliance the screen brought to the photos.  The new soft proofing feature of LR5 seems to better estimate the level of brightness of the printed work, compared to past versions of the s/ware.
In any case, in my opinion you really can’t go wrong with the apple product.  I bought my first iMac in mid 1999 and have never looked back.  I donated that machine to a pre-school in 2008, it was running OSX version 2 or 3 I think.  I did run Photoshop 7.0 on an IBM laptop for a time (windows XP).  I think I had one of the very first versions of Adobe Camera Raw on that machine.  I digress, sorry.
The chat representative did confirm that the 17” is out of production and I’m guessing Apple found the market for the big laptop just wasn’t there.  They did mention that 17” MBP’s show up as “certified refurbished” units from time to time.  Suggest you might explore that option with a local Apple store in the UK, assuming  Apple has store front operations off this continent of course.
Please feel free to contact me with further questions if you wish.
    Take care, Gordy

  • How do I re-import photos that Lightroom says it "cannot find."

I have gone to a half-day workshop on Lightroom 5.  I have purchased and started reading Scott Kelby's Lightroom 5 for Digital Photographers, but find it rather cumbersome and unhelpful.  And all I am trying to do is ORGANIZE and import photos (I am only now on Chapter 1).  I have used Photoshop Elements for years, and found it very user friendly. Not so with Lightroom, for me!!!
I was trying to organize my photos in my external hard drive.
    1.  I noticed that some photos I thought I had imported from my SanDisk 16 gb "chip" to the external drive don't seem to be available in Lightroom, because I get a message like "Cannot find files."
    2. I tried to re-import these photos, but Lightroom seems to think they are somewhere, and won't let me import from my SanDisk again.
    3. Trying ot solve this problem I clicked "Merge" on the photos in my external hard drive, but that only put all my photos in one folder, now not according to date. I want to revert to saving them by DATE, not "merged" into one file
    4. I checked in Scott Kelby's index under "merge" it does not refer to a problem with managing photos.
    5. Help me learn the following:
    A. How to correct the "merge" which put all the photos in one folder, not by date, so that they are again organized by date.
    B. How to find the photos that Lightroom says it cannot find, or download them again, or whatever to solve the missing photo problem

    1. I noticed that some photos I thought I had imported from my SanDisk 16 gb "chip" to the external drive don't seem to be available in Lightroom, because I get a message like "Cannot find files."
Could you please give us the EXACT error message?
Then I clicked on IMPORT. Was this the correct way of downloading, because when I do that, in the top LEFT corner of the Lightroom screen, it indicates that it is “downloading photos,” but nothing seems to download.
This sounds to me like a hardware problem ... either the card reader or the card itself is not responding.
With regards to the bulk of the rest of your problems, it might make sense to start over. Remove the files from your hard disk using your operating system (assuming they are still on your camera card), create a new empty catalog in Lightroom (File->New Catalog), and import them again from your camera cards. Perhaps instead of following Kelby's advice, follow other advice on importing and organizing, such as:
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-lightroom-5/importing-photos-from-a-cf-card/
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/getting-started-with-adobe-photoshop-lightroom-5/lightroom-5-imp orting-your-images
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/getting-started-with-adobe-photoshop-lightroom-5/lightroom-5-org anizing-your-images/
It is also my opinion that if you read Scott Kelby's books and start where he discusses how to edit photos, you will probably find the book to be useful; however if you read Scott Kelby's books where he discusses importing and organizing, it is my opinion that his advice is off-the-mark and not helpful. If you want to read a good book on organizing, try http://thedambook.com/

    Find your serial number quickly
You might want to develop a more secure system of saving your serial numbers and other critical information.

  • Lightroom Import cannot find files

Lightroom 5.5 has been working fine until today. I have a Windows 7 64-bit computer with 12 GB ram and 1.5 TB free hard drive space available.
LR seems to load OK, but when I press the Import button it slows down to a crawl and then finally comes back with the message that it cannot find any files to import. I have been importing directly from my camera via USB w/o a problem until today. If I try to transfer the files through Windows Explorer - there is no delay, so LR seems to be the problem.
Any ideas? suggestions? Thanks in advance, george

Do you want to  import the photos to the organizer? Then the previous poster gave you the right answer. However, it's not necessary to use the organizer if you already have your photos catalogued in lightroom. Instead, you can set PSE as your external editor and send the photos directly from LR. Lightroom preferences>external editor tab>browse to PSE. Then when you're in the editor or library modules, right click and choose to send the photo to elements.

    Correct.
Mac app store software does not contain serial numbers since they are linked to your AppleID.
which means I can't upgrade to LR5 through Adobe.
    Yes, you can.
    Purchase the upgrade.
When when you run the LR5 installer it will see you have the Mac app store version and it will get a serial number from Adobe to use for LR5.
Very helpful - if there were a serial number!!!!
There will be a serial number WHEN YOU RUN THE INSTALLER!
It will get one from Adobe.
    You're welcome!

  • Cannot find Lightroom help

When I try to access Lightroom help from the help menu I get a windows message that "windows cannot find.............adobe lightroom\resources\fr\help\help.html".
I guess the problem is that I use an English version (the ....en\help\help.html is actually present) on a PC in France.
How and where can I correct the path to the English help menu?
Thanks in advance for help on this.

ok, I think I solved the problem. I changed the en folder name to fr and it seems to work.

I purchased Lightroom from B&H Photo a few months ago.  I did not instal the software, because I was purchasing a new computer in the near future.  I am now purchasing that computer, but cannot find the software.  B&H suggested that I contact you directly to help me.  I have the receipt, and you can look to see that the program was never used.  It would be great if you could just send me another copy of the software.  Thank you very much.
    Marc

    Download from Adobe's website
Win: Adobe - Lightroom : For Windows
Mac: Adobe - Lightroom : For Macintosh
Install then enter your serial number when prompted.
I have the receipt, and you can look to see that the program was never used.
The receipt is only of use to B&H. Adobe will have no record of it.
If you quote an Adobe Lightroom serial number then Adobe can confirm if that serial number has ever been registered. That step should not be required at this stage though. Just install the software.
