Lightroom cc Crop overlay issue

When I try and use the Lightroom CC crop overlay tool I get what seems to be a rendering failure that shows as a blue box with a white cross. See attached.
Computer is a Surface Pro 3 i7 with 8.1 fully updated.

Could you double check if you have Sync turned ON. See the attached screenshot which shows the top left activity panel. - Guido

  • Is it possible to create a Lightroom 5 cropping overlay guide from an image?

I must have dreamed this but I thought I saw that LR 5 had the ability to create a cropping overlay from an image.  My goal is to create a quicker way to place a date on 5x7 and wallets so that it works for both prints.  I want WHCC's wallet guide as an overlay.

It is not possible to create a custom crop overlay but you can use a Loupe Overlay to eyeball it.  View>Loupe Overlay>Layout Images and then navigate to a PNG (transparency enabled) version of this overlay. It will show you the overlay in Library>Loupe and Develop so that you can preview your crop.  If you don't have the means to create a transparent PNG, you can simply use CTRL/CMD to reduce the opacity of your Opaque PNG File.
Note: the Overlay and the Crop Overlay cannot be active at the same time.

  • Crop Overlay Tool

I believe this is something new and I cannot find the option to change it.  I don't remember this being an issue until recently.  When I am using the Crop Overlay, I make the frame box as I want it (currently constraining original aspect ratio) using the mouse.  When I go to move the box to the area I want it to be in, if I move my mouse left, the box goes right, mouse right box left, mouse up box down, and mouse down box up.  In other words, inverted and confusing.  Is this normal?  This is the only time on any application it does this so its definitely something in Lightroom.

In Lightroom, the box is fixed and you move the image underneath it.

  • Lightroom CC crop bug?

I downloaded the new lightroom yesterday and if i crop and rotate an image it will jiggle and bug out and freeze for a few seconds before it stops and works. anyone else having this problem? it is driving me crazy.

Okay, guys.  This has to be fixable.  When I downloaded the new LR CC I had the super jiggly crop tool issue.  It drove me crazy.  I have now got it fixed and here are my specs:
    MacBook Pro - Yosemite v 10.10.3
There was a new update to Yosemite for the Pro Video Formats v 2.0.1
I downloaded it 5 or 6 times and it wouldn't update.  It kept stalling out.   FINALLY I got it to install.
After that, my LR CC seemed to be working.
In addition, I quite LR.  I quit everything on my MacBook.
I restarted the MacBook. and even unplugged it and replugged it in before restarting.
After I was sure the update to Yosemite installed, I restarted again.
Somewhere in that mix, the LR CC crop tool started to work.  I have no troubles with it at all now!  The leveling tool is also solid.
I have no idea why, but it works just fine now.
I'm sure that you have all tried all of these steps, but somehow, mine started working after all the stops, starts, unplugs, and restarts.
Keep trying.  I don't know when Adobe will fix this, but the fact is, that this thing got resolved after I did a bunch of starts and stops.  I know this isn't very helpful . . . .but if it works for one person, maybe this is worth posting.

  • PSE10 New Crop Overlay

The new crop tool menu in PSE10 includes an overlay bringing Elements into line with Lightroom and CS5. This is useful for composition using the rule of thirds or golden ratio. Check out the video tutorial (Quick Time add-on required)

Thanks ken. What is the rule of thirds? The best compositions traditionally place the subject at the intersections. Like all rules it can be broken; use your own judgment and shoot how you like.

  • Crop Overlay stuck in Proportion mode

    Hi,
Recently I set up proportions for the Crop Overlay tool. Now it won't do free-form cropping any more. When I grabbed a center handle on a vertical or horizontal side of the crop overlay, only that side used to move for the crop and I could make the photo any horizontal/vertical aspect I wanted. Now it moves the entire crop rectangle keeping the proportion of the original photo.
When I click on Crop Tool the list of values shows no "free form". When I pick "Custom" it still does Proportional and when I try to Enter Custom it displays 1.00 x 1.00 for horizontal/vertical and will not allow me to delete either number.
How can I make the Crop Overlay free-form again?
    Thanks,
    Robert

It just sounds like you have the aspect ratio locked. Is the lock icon closed? Press A to toggle it off/on (open/closed).

  • Lightroom v3 Crop Bug?

I've created a 16x20 crop aspect via the Develop / Crop & Straighten tools as I did in LR v2.   However, when I move the 16x20 crop overlay, up or down for example, it changes it to the 4 x 5 / 8 x 10 crop aspect.   I'm not even changing the size of the crop, just adjusting the location of the crop overlay.    Any ideas why the aspect would be changing?   This is new as I did not have this problem in LRv2.

    Jonathon LeFaive wrote:
In LR, you set the image size on export. Crop just does aspect ratios.
Yes...think of "aspect ratio" as "shape" and export is where you set the "size" of that "shape".

  • Lightroom 5 auto import issues with nikon d90

Hoping someone can help answer my question - I am wondering if Lightroom 5 has any issues with the auto import or tethering feature using a Nikon d90? I was using Lightroom 2 and the auto import feature has no issues with my d90. After I installed Lightroom 5 (Cloud App) and ran it for the first time, the first thing I used was the tethering feature and it worked great for 4 shots. I turned my camera off and then back on again and LR would not recognize my camera any longer for tethering. What's strange is that it will detect it for "Importing from Device" option. So, I went to plan two which was to auto import and that wasn't working at all. I am at a loss. I have a shoot coming up this weekend and need for one of these options to work. Any help is appreciated!!!

I use a D90, but I have never tried tethered shooting with it. Other users might have some suggestions for you, but looking at the list of supported cameras for tethered shooting the D90 is not "officially" supported in Lightroom. So you're probably on your own to find solutions. I know this isn't a lot of help.

  • Lightroom 4.4 video issues, I think it may be a windows 8 issue.

I am not sure when this started happening or what has changed.  I went to import some video and in the import dialog box all my video files show "Preview unavailable for this file" in the thumbnail in the grid view.  And if I try to import them i get a dialog box with a message that says Import Results > Some import operations were not performed. > There is a problem with the video file (1) > [Filename].AVI
I am currently using windows 8 and I have imported video to this catalog before from the same camera.  The video plays fine in the video players(windows media player, quicktime, and the new video app on windows 8 that is the default player in the OS).
I went throught the http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/troubleshoot-video-issues-lightroo m-4.html and did all those suggestions.  I am now turning to the forums before I reach out to support.
Has anyone else run into this issue or a simililar one that may be able to give me a workaround or solution?
I am a cloud subscriber and all my programs are up to date.  Windows is current, all players are current, and this specific catalog has .AVI files in it from the same camera and the firmware on the camera has never been updated since I started shooting video.
    Thanks,
    Alex

I had the same problem -- also on Windows 8. I was trying to import .MOV files from an Olympus OM-D E-M5 into Lightroom and got the error you mentioned.
I believe it was a problem with my QuickTime installation. I was using an unofficial distribution of QuickTime called "QT Lite", and apparently it doesn't play well with Lightroom. Uninstalled that, installed the latest QuickTime and video imports started to work.
Unfortunately I then ran into this other problem, which sometimes causes video editing to fail: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/972420

  • Lightroom mobile trial expired issue

I have CC Master and in my installation of Lightroom, it only tells "Lightroom Mobile Trial Expired". Same in iPad. "Your trial period has ended"
I installed it way back almost right away, when it was announced. I also posted a note on a forum about this, and the guy said this would be fixed well before trial was over.
I mean: come on! Someone already said that this is a thing Adobe is working on and that it should be resolved well before trial period is over. Well it is not!
Could you please fix this. I am fed up with all the crap I have been having with CC subscription. Not the first time I have had issues with it. Once I spent two hours with chat tech support trying to fix something that should have been just working.
Crappy, crappy, crappy work, Adobe. I am losing my faith here, and I am not alone.

    Hello keith.
That is not true Keith. If it is like you say I could not have the trial version and I had it during a month without any problem!
Saludos, de margaret y un buen día.

Margaret, Mobile is only available to CC subscribers because it needs the cloud as the mechanism for syncing between Lightroom and Lightroom Mobile.
Maybe they could say it more  explicitly, but the necessity of CC membership is pretty clearly implied (several times) by this page:

  • Lightroom 3.2 RC issue with cropped preview on load

I'm running 3.2 RC on a Macbook Pro 10.6.4 with the Snow Leopard Graphics update. I've found a problem where I begin to load an image in the develop module using "fit" and it suddenly switches to a randomly tightly cropped view. If I zoom in and zoom out, it reverts to normal behavior.
    Anyone else notice this?

I'm running the same software and haven't noticed this behavior. I have a 17" MBP.

  • Any Chance of Getting 8x10 Crop Overlay inside the 8x12?

    Hello,
I am using 2.3 and have not downloaded 2.4 but am wondering about a possible overlay feature.
Most cameras shoot an 8x12 frame yet I am often cropping for the lowest common denominator - 8x10.
Since some of the overlays resize inside the crop box, I am wondering why there is not a choice to add 8x10 or 5x7 ratios?
I am often delivering a digital file that is in 8x12 but needs to be "safe" for 8x10.
I have written this in the new features section but it strikes me as odd that Lightroom has a squiggly resizing shape and not photo frame sizes marked!
This great program has revolutionized my workflow and this one feature would stop a lot of guessing when cropping, making the program even better.

Other than keeping on developing your eye to know when you've got a safe crop in this situation, you could, as a workaround:
crop a batch to your normal ratio, then go through them quickly with the crop tool  set to 8 x 10, apply it, check then hit escape and move on.
Alternatively, you could create a batch of Virtual Copies, rename them, perhaps adding '8x10' to the file name, and crop them to the 8 x 10.
Finally, if you so wish, you could add this as a feature request.

  • Lightroom 3.6 install issue

Just as an FYI for the team...
I downloaded and tried to install 3.6 and the install failed for me. It downloaded fine and then uncompressed and put the install folder on my desktop. It then seemed to start the install sequence as I was heading out the door for an appointment. When I returned I could see nothing from the install routine remaining on my screen so I opened LR and found it still showed as 3.5. I went to the Adobe folder, then the Lightroom 3.6 folder and manually ran the 'Install Lightroom 3.exe' file. It flashed up for a second or two then disappeared. Repeated this with the same results. Rebooted the system and tried again with a repeat of it starting up for a few seconds and then disappearing. Lightroom 3.5 is still running fine, no sign of 3.6 having been overlayed and there is no 3.6 folder in my Program Files / Adobe section.
After coming to the forum and reading commentsabout a variety of issues being posted I thought I should share this. I am going to hold off on trying again for now although I had considered redownloading for another try originally.
    System:
    Pentium Core 2 Duo
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64
    4 megs RAM
    GeForce 7600 video card
    Dual Monitors
    Respectfully,
    Gary N. Miller

    Updated info:
I just checked the size of the install folder that was placed on the desktop and found that the contents are only 117 megs where the downloaded file, Lightroom_3_LS11_win_3_6.exe, was almost 242 megs. The desktop folder was Adobe containing a single Photoshop Lightroom 3.6 folder... which contained an Install Lightroom 3.exe file, a Readme PDF and one folder named Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3. This folder only holds a 'setup32.exe' file of 119,524kb.
Something appears to have backfired on the decompress maybe?

  • Lightroom 4.2 Installation Issue

Leaving this around in case anyone else has the same problem -- Solution found -- Windows installer issues / registry issues -- used the Microsoft Fix it tool (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651#reso3) to correct.  4.2 install ran fine.
I've read through the posts in the Lightroom forum regarding  LR 4.2 install issues. I will list here the things I've done to try to get the install to work:
    1) Downloaded the installation software twice.
    2) Ran the setup program in admin user mode.
    3) Ran the install in admin user mode.
    4) Get the following error in a Windows Installer window:
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click ok to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Adobe_Lightroom_x64.msi' in the box below.
    Use source:
    c:\Users\RMJF\AppData\Local\Temp\{...}
What I have found (after displaying hidden AppData folder):
The location where the .msi file resides is different from the one defaulting in the above window.
I select this alternate path, but still cannot complete the installation.
Furthermore, when I cancel the install, I get this error:
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.2 64-bit Installer Info
Error 1714. The older version of Adobe Photoshop Lightoom 4.2 64-bit cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group
I have been running LR since the beginning of time and most recently LR 4.1, so there is no 4.2 installed.
Also, I tried to fix the install of 4.1 via the programs in Control Panel. I cannot repair it and get this error:
The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.
All versions (except the 1.0 version) were downloaded and installed from the Adobe LR site.
    So, looking for suggestions.
Seems like there are some missing files from the 4.1 version that are hindering the install of 4.2???
All quite frustrating.  Hope you can get me to a speedy solution.
(System info:  Windows Vista 64-bit Home, SP 2, 20 GB of disk space to spare!  Also, I have set the install program to be allowed by the anti-virus program. I have run a registry clean-up, as well.  No other apps are running during the install.)

  • Inconsistant overlay issues in same project - urgent help needed please!

Hopefully this has not been asked. I searched and found nothing.
The issue is that using overlays works great for two of the three menus in my project, but the third does not display properly when viewing a finished DVD or the TS folder. It looks perfect in simulator.
Now for the details: the menus are pretty simple. They each consist of a Photoshop file with two layers. One is the background buttons (mostly plain text) and an overlay layer (underlines under the text). These are saved as psd files.
When built and viewed, two of the menus operate normally - you roll over the text buttons, and an underline appears beneath them. The third menu does nothing when rolled over, yet if you click on a piece of text, it jumps to the proper section as expected.
I have checked every setting I can think of to make sure everything is the same between the different menus. I even rebuilt the whole DVD from scratch, and made new menus in Photoshop. Each file was made as a "save as" to ensure that the settings were the same. Same for the menus in DVDSP - duplicates of a menu that work properly. Is there something I've overlooked? Is this an issue with DVDSP 3?
Any help or suggestions are most appreciated. This forum is a great resource.

    Hi There
The only thing that comes to mind is that something's changing in your button highlight states between your menus. Go to a menu that is working the way you want and select a button. In the button inspector go to the Colours tab and ine the bottom right corner click the Save As Default button. Then go to a menu that is not performing correctly, highlight a button, go to the Colours tab and click Restore Default.
If that doesn't fix it at least you'll have ruled out a major culprit.
    Good Luck
    B
