Lightroom CONITINUALLY crashes on import when Android device is connected

HI,
Hoping some "techy" type can help me...
I have Windows 7 Home Pro 64-bit OS and the 64-bit version of LR.  When I first installed LR it was operating as expected.  Lately (the last month or so) when I go to import from my camera (Canon via a usb cord or via the card reader) will crash and say that the program has encountered an error and needs to close.
This is SERIOUSLY impacting my life and I need to get it worked out.
I was hoping to get on with adobe support but they are closed on Sunday.
Anyone?  Thanks in advance!

The same thing. Win7x64, Lr5.6x64.
I had to uninstall Lr5.6 and revert back to Lr5.5 is all I could do to be able to use Lr again. I'll wait for another update.
I wonder if recent Windows Updates may play a part in this because I have been using Lr5.6 for a week or two already without a hitch (but I didn't attempt to import photos) Windows updated on August 12 2014, I was out of town for a few days but have not needed to import photos in that time up until now.
Thinking back, I'm not 100% sure if Lr5.6 was even working for importing, the default program for .NEF files was set to Lightroom 64-bit, but I checked this during all this and Lr3.6 was the version that was trying to import. I tried to switch it to Lr5.6 but it didn't work, nor uninstalling Lr3.6 then trying to import again, nor the repair/reinstall of Lr5.6.
I've used it since I updated, probably a week or more. I still had Lr 3.6 because it was the version I used some older photos with, so far wasn't a problem, Adobe said when I installed Lr v5 that I could leave v3.6 on. (I can re-install it later).
I tried to repair Lr5.6; uninstalled Lr3.6 then tried to repair Lr5.6; uninstalled and re-installed Lr5.6. Nothing worked.

  • Flash CS5.5 and Android: Could not find an Android device to connect to...

I am trying to deploy/debug an application from CS5.5 to an ASUS Transformer TF300 Tablet.  Every time I publish in Flash Pro I get the following error:
"Could not find an Android device to connect to. Please ensure that you have a device connected, and the device has USB debugging enabled."
I have tried everything I can find regarding this problem to no avail.  Some details:
    Running Android 4.0.3
Running Flash Pro CS5.5 on MacOS 10.7.3
Tried turning USB debugging then back on, multiple times
Tried turning on/off all other debugging options
    Tried several Flash projects
Downloaded latest AIR runtime to tablet
    Restarted everything several times
Still no dice.  Anyone have experience with this?

OK I figured it out, or rather found someone else who had.  Thanks to Nick Collins for this extremely helpful tidbit:

  • Open iTunes when this device is connected

"Open iTunes when this device is connected" is not on the Summary Tab as stated by the Help screen. So where is it?

Each time you connect your iPhone to iTunes, you need to eject it before closing iTunes by clicking on the little "eject" icon shown in iTunes.  It seems that sometime in the past, you did not do that.
I'm not sure how to undo the previously done damage, but maybe a reboot of your Mac would help.

  • Turning off iPhoto when Camera device is connected to computer??

An ardent user of Adobe Lightroom, each time when a camera device is connected to my computer, iPhoto will be the first application speeding ahead to import the pictures, which is no longer my preference. How can I prevent iPhoto in recognizing any camera device so that it does not run the application as I no longer wish to import photos thru iPhoto other than uninstalling this wonder piece of iLife?

Launch iPhoto (or image capture) and in the preferences set the preference for "when camera is connected" to do nothing - or image capture set it to launch an application of your choice

  • How to prevent iTunes to open when my device is connected

    Hi,
I'm using iTunes 10.0.1.22 on Windows Vista OS.
Each time i connect my iPhone to the computer, the iTunes opens. i don't want it to happen. not to open and not to sync.
There's is NO tick in iTunes > Device > Summary > Options > Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected. but this line is colored in grey and i cannot tick / untick it. Here's a link for a screenshot:
    http://img2.timg.co.il/forums/1_146522632.jpg
The iTunes perfernces is tick for "prevent iphones from syncing automatically".
I also tried to re-install the iTunes software. no luck.
    what can i do?

I actually had this same question for my iPad. My wife's computer is really slow, and I was hoping it might be a little faster to get iTunes to open if it was set to open as soon as she connects her iPad. All of a sudden that option was grayed out. Thank you for your help...

  • Increasing brush-size crashes Win 8 - when HDMI cable is connected - Why?

Photoshop Elements. Increasing brush-size crashes Windows 8 when HDMI cable connected to TV or data projector.  I'm using Asus N56V notebook with Nvidia 635M dedicated graphics card with latest driver.
    Any ideas please?
    Many thanks,
    Clive  (UK)

    Hi Brian,
    Here's an update:
The nub of the problem has been determined by my computer expert as a conflict (as we suspected) between the graphics driver and screen resolution.  However the situation is far from dimple.  I'll be as brief as possible:
No matter how we approach the settings for the Nvidia driver, when using HDMI, the 'workings' of the compuer automatically reset the driver to either the inbuilt Intel driver and if that's deliberately 'disabled' it reverts to the even more basic Windows 8 driver.  As neither card/driver is 'dedicated', the sharing that occurs between the native resolution of the notebook display and the external display (even if this is set to a compatible value)  the the computer crashes.  It remains OK if a single dsipaly (internal or external) is selected.  Dual display (which I must have) is the problem.  My computer expert is going to contact Asus about this. He even tried setting the global setting to Nvidia only and it still didn;'t succeed.
I've since spoken with a colleague and he tells me that in the audio-visual community, this is a well known phenomenom with rexcent lapptops/notebooks no matter what to cost or spec - in so far as they ignor the 'dedicated graphics' when on HDMI in favour of the default (shared) driver and hence the problem. Apparently some notebooks are OK but one has to shop around and take pot luck.  What a state of affairs!
The Asus notebook works OK using the VGA socket but let's face it, I bought this hi-spec computer for HDMI usage.
This is the story to date.  It would appear that software is not the root cause.
I will continue to pursue the matter and find a resolutuion (no pun intended - or perahps it was!)
    With all best wishes,
    Clive.

  • Lightroom 3 crash on import in ui.dll

I've been using the beta and now have a licensed version of Lightroom 3. Suddenly it has decided that it can't import photos from my card and will crash in ui.dll. I've tried multiple times without success. I don't know what changed because I have been able to import from this card before.
What I see is when I bring up the import function all of the pictures on my card are displayed and checked for import. I set a keyword and make sure the destination folder is correct then click the "import" button. The progress bar comes up but just hangs there for several seconds before the whole application crashes. The info in the dialog box indicates the crash occurred in ui.dll.

Same problem as everyone is experiencing,
    Win XP SP3
    no LR3 beta
just installed upgrade from LR2 to LR3
5D2 Canon CR2 files copied to local folder for Import (50 files)
    existing LRCAT file
import fails after 1 or 2 files
Definitely has to do with importing into an existing LR2 catalog...
Created new LR3 Catalog, import worked
Then I performed the following steps:
    Open existing LR2 Catalog
Make an edit in Develop mode to an existing image - I wanted the catalog to "re-save" itself at least one time in LR3
Exit LR3 to close the Catalog
    Open same Catalog
    Do your Import...worked for me
I don't know if this had anything to do with the fact that I made a new LR3 catalog first...I suspect that it doesn't.

  • Lightroom 3 crashes on import every time

    Hi.
I have just installed the demo version of Lightroom 3 on my Windows XP (3GB RAM). It installed and opened fine, but when I click on the "import" button, it crashes every single time. I have not been able to import anything at all. I have tried folders and just one single image (I tried drag-n-dropping it too)
I have re-installed the program once to no avail. I have deleted the prefs (or so I think) and tried numerous other things.
    Very thankful for any help!
    Regards
    Sebastian

32-bit operating systems are limited to 32 bits of address space.  This is 4GB.
Windows places some additional restrictions on this by reserving 2GB of total physical RAM for the system, leaving 2GB for user processes. Because each process needs space for various libraries and stacks and other private stuff, the theoretical 2GB is actually somewhat less, but it depends on the application the exact value.
The /3G switch is a way to take part of the system memory away and give it to user processes, but not all applications and environments can operate in such an environment. It is only recommended (barely) for Windows servers where you need to make sure some small set of services have the largest user space.
Lr is not "restricted" to 1Gb. As a 32-bit or 64-bit application it will ask for whatever resources it needs to the maximum addressable space and will use that or make do and recover (in most case) if the resources are unavailable.  If this means Lr starts swapping to virtual disk, so be it. Since Lr has to share that physical RAM with other processes on the machine, it is up to the OS to balance what it can give out.  It will usually give foreground user apps as much as it can, but memory is a precious resource, and every process can ask for it at any time.
64-bit version of the Windows OS and 64-bit applications can theoretically see a 64-bit address space, but Windows (and, actually, most other operating systems) restricts the user space to some much reasonable smaller number that depends on the flavour of Windows (there are something like 7 kinds of Windows 7.) In the "premium" flavours it is something like 16Gb, with 15Gb being the reasonable maximum because of libraries, stacks &etc.  This is a little different because 64-bit pointers and stacks are twice the width of their 32-bit counter-parts.
(This is all from memory, BTW, and Windows memory management is a twisty maze of passages, all different.  See here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa384271(VS.85).aspx)

  • Lightroom 4 crashes on import

Windows 7, Home Edition, version 6.1 service pack 1
Intel 7, with more than 400gb memory available
I've now spent more than 32 hours trying to solve this problem, including two phone calls and three chat sessions with Adobe Help Desk.  The Help desk takes me through the same checklist of "fixes" as the previous calls and inquiries and has resulted only in wasting more hours of my time.
To date I have tried the following to fix this issue:
    - uninstall and reinstall with and without the LR 4.1 update
    - create a new administrator account on my machine and run LR off the new account instead
    - create a new catalogue for every import (which kind of defeates the purpose of having LR to begin with)
    - wipe out my old preferences file and allow LR to create a new one
    - completely wipe my hard drive and reinstall EVERYTHING all over again
    - rebuild my catalogues from scratch on a new, fresh install of lightroom
    - limit my cache size in LR preferences
    - limit my backups in LR preferences
    - change my 1:1 previews
    - attempt to import images from a Nikon 90, D3s and D800 only, each on a fresh LR install (in an effort to see if it was a particular camera model causing the issue)
    - attempted to only import directly from another hard drive, rather than an external or internal card reader
Each time I have no more than a day of proper working conditions before the program hangs up and windows pops up a warning that the program has ceased to respond and must close.  Lightroom is rather useless if I can not import images.
I'm out of solutions or fixes, and out of patience now too.  I'd really like to continue using Lightroom products because of how integral it is to my workflow.  At this point I'm ready to switch to a competitor if this issue can not be solved.

    Hi Dave lorde,
Do you get an error dialog for Lightroom crashing?
Also which version of Lightroom are you using? Have you tried with Lightroom 4.4 yet?
You might also try downloading the Lightroom 5 beta that is available now on labs.adobe.com and see how it works on your system there.
As for the current issues, my suggestions are as follows:
    0. Make sure you're up to date with LR 4.4 or LR5 beta
    1. Take a look through our performance optimization documents for Lightroom and see if any of these suggestions give you something to work with:
    Optimize LR performance
    http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/optimize-performance-lightroom.html
    Performance Hints
    http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/performance-hints.html
    2. Try resetting Lightroom's preferences: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/recover-catalog-images-resetting-lightrooms.html#id_90 046
    3. Try Lightroom in a new administrator user to see if the hangs continue.
Let us know how it goes,
    regards,
    Pete

  • Itunes crashes when any device is connected

Been having this problem for weeks now and just can't seem to find any solution.
Basically I upgraded to the newest version of itunes (the one before the most recent)and ever since then If I connect any device to my itunes, be it my iPhone 3G,iPhone 4 or my 5th Gen iPod, itunes crashes immediatly and I get the windows error message "Itunes has stopped working - A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"
Now it's not a problem with any of my devices, because i've tried with friends ipods and it does the same thing. I've literally tried everyone, uninstalled and reinstalled, set itunes to not automatically sync devices, deauthorised and authorised my account, tried older version of itunes and done a system restore of my whole laptop.
It's driving me crazy, havent been able to sync anything for weeks now and it's majorly ******* me off! So can anyone help?

Right sometimes when the error message comes up, windows gives me these details.
Apparently the error stems from these 3 files
Files that help describe the problem:
    C:\Users\Me\AppData\Local\Temp\WERA449.tmp.version.txt
    C:\Users\Me\AppData\Local\Temp\WERB05B.tmp.appcompat.txt
    C:\Users\Me\AppData\Local\Temp\WERD96F.tmp.mdmp
Does that shed any light on the problem?

  • Why does my iTunes always freeze when a device is connected?

I am running the latest OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 and iTunes 12.1.0.50.  Every time I try and connect a device to iTunes the colour wheel appears and iTunes freezes. This has happened on an iPhone 5, an iPod Touch and an iPad Mini.  This problem only occurred after updating to the Yosemite OS X and iTunes 12.  Prior to then everything was working fine.  I was hoping the latest updates to both would have sorted out my issue but they didn't.

    Howdy SheppBoy,
If you are having an issue with iTunes becoming unresponsive when you connect a device, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • Removable disk drives(E,F,G,H) appearing when no devices are connected

I have been doing some android development and using my phone to run the apps. Yesterday the removable drives(E,F,G and H) showed in my computer yet there are no devices connected. It is persistent. What could cause these drives to appear?

    Hi,
Generally speaking, this problem should be caused by Virtual Device driver installed in your system.
To fix this problem, please access to Device Manager to check if there is any new drives were added recently.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    You will need an app such as the freebie LineIn app from Rogue Amoeba;

LineIn is a simple application for OS X to enable the soft playthru of audio from input devices. In simpler terms, you can use LineIn to play sound coming in through a microphone or any other device plugged in to your Sound In port.
