Lightroom crashing when Photoshop is running??

I need help!  I am running Windows 7, 4GB RAM.  When I have both Photoshop CS4 64bit and Lightroom 3.3 64bit open Lightroom crashes.  The moment I close Photoshop, Lightroom is fine.  This is something that just started, I use to work with both of them all the time.
Thanks in advance!

First off, did you really mean PS CS4? Because PS CS4 and LR 3 are not fully compatible, and you don't get all the features of LR with CS4.
I do not know if CS4 would cause LR to crash. I worked for a while with CS3 and LR 3 and both worked fine, except that CS3 can not open the RAW images processed in LR 3.
Secondly, what do you mean by "crashes" - do you get a Windows message that LR has to close? Or is it that LR seems the be "frozen", i.e. un-responsive?
If LR becomes unresponsive, the reason might be that do don't have enough RAM. Try the following:
How large is your page file? Increae your page file (Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Performance) How large is your LR Cache. Set the Cache size in LR to very large (mine is set at 75 GB) - it might help (Edit > Preferences > File Handling). Also, move your LR Cache to a different drive than the drive on which LR sits .
Finally, if LR closes down on you and if both programs worked before then one or the other has become somehow corrupted.
Since it is LR that crashes, try to re-install LR.
Before you do that, backup your Catalog, so that you can open it with the newly re-installed LR and don't lose anything.

  • Lightroom crashes when rendering Develop preview under Vista 64-bit

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit and Lightroom 1.1 crashes every time I click the "Develop" pane. My images are DNG files without the original RAW embedded.
Lightroom ONLY crashes when I load an image in Develop. If I open Develop without any image selected, it's fine (no image is displayed). I can zoom in to 100% in Library and it works fine. Exporting images to JPG works fine. Editing photos in the Library pane is fine. The crash data is:
    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: lightroom.exe
    Application Version: 1.1.0.0
    Application Timestamp: 4677e8e1

    OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1

I've uninstalled LR 1.1 and reinstalled and it does the same thing. When I uninstall LR 1.1 and the install LR 1.0 (the previous version) Develop does open, but it doesn't render the images correctly - it looks like it misinterprets the white balance by about 1,500k degrees (very ugly), but Library shows the correct image/white-balance.
I've updated my nVidia 7900 graphics drivers to the latest version, appropriate to my OS and architecture. I've disabled XMP creation and Adobe Photo Downloader, as well as all other running applications (Antivirus, spyware, itunes, etc).
This USED to work fine in Vista and I did not make any significant changes, but I expect it's an issue with WindowsUpdate causing an incompatibility. I can't roll-back to my Vista state when it worked a month ago (that's another Vista frustration).
Anyway advice or comments would be GREATLY appreciated since this is an integral part of my professional workflow. I own a legitimate, licensed copy of both Lightroom and Vista, yet neither company is willing to talk to me unless I pay them money, which I think is complete extortion, but I digress.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Has anyone got a resolution on this? I have the same issue. Lightroom crashes when I click develop and the develop module begins to render the image. Clicking develop with no image selected allows the develop module to load however selecting develop on the menu bar and choosing either previous photo or next photo causes lightroom to crash while rendering an image.
I have a 64 bit capable HP XW8400 workstation with 2 dual core Xeon processors, 4 GB RAM, and a nVidia FX 4400 graphics card. This video card was put in as a test. the original video card was an nVidia quadra NVS something. When I ran the NVS card I used the drivers certified for Adobe CS2. I am running 32 bit Windows XP SP2 with all current updates. I do not have any MS office components installed on this system.
I read of some troubles around the Realtek HD audio driver and some Adobe applications (not Lightroom). Since I have this sound device I disabled it and removed the drivers...still crashes.
I also disabled the Intel VT in the system bios (I believe this is required to run 64 bit XP or Vista)... no change. Also disabled the NX feature...no change.
I also loaded VMware workstation 6.0 and installed Lightroom in a 32bit Windows XP SP2 VM. In the VM Lightroom works perfectly on the same machine...just not as snappy...
This stinks...Lightroom works perfectly on my poky laptop.

  • CS4 - Illustrator crashing when Photoshop open

Running CS4 Design Premium Suite on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
All programs are working fine on their own.  However, Illustrator almost always will crash when I have Photoshop open as well and go to do anything in AI - paste, edit text, save, etc.  I've tried running both the 32-bit and the 64-bit of PS and both crash AI.  I've tried running AI in compatibility mode, no luck.  I've tried making my default printer the Acrobat driver, from my HP officejet (this was a weird fix back in CS3) and no luck.  And crash = immediate closing of problem, not freezing up.
I see under Windows compatibility list here - http://tinyurl.com/yjdju8g - that Illustrator CS4 on Win 7 64-bit is the ONLY app from the suite that isn't yet shown as compatible, but "info coming soon."
Is anyone else experiencing this problem and know anything to try for a fix?  Driving me crazy having to close PS anytime I want to do something in AI.
Thanks in advance, hoping I'm not alone here!

  • Lightroom crashes when png fils is used for water mark

When I use png files, lightroom 5.7 crashes (windows 7 64 bit). With the plug-in Mogrify it works, but not with lightroom itself. The dng fil can be imported into the lightroom catalog without problem. But it cannot be loaded for the identification table (lightroom crashes). I had this issue already in lightroom 4.
Thanks for any ideas to solve this.

I opened and resaved the PNG with Photoshop and it didn't crash LR, so it seems your scanner is producing PNGs that aren't quite compatible with Lightroom.
Instead of me uploading files after editing in Photoshop, you can use an online editor like Pixlr to edit your own PNGs that won't crash Lightroom:
I used the following steps in Pixlr to convert ABC.png to a transparent background PNG that had black writing then another with white writing:
Open apps.pixlr.com/editor/ Online Photo Editor | Pixlr Editor | Autodesk Pixlr in a browser, I used IE 11
    Click Open Image from Computer
    Browse to and Open ABC.png
Double click the padlock symbol in the Layers panel to convert Background to Layer 0
Select the Magic Wand tool - over at the left
Turn off Anti-Alias and Contiguous checkboxes up top if necessary because you want all the background removed and clean edges on this B/W PNG
Click on a white area outside of the letters, notice that the insides of the A and B are also selected because Continuous is turned off
Hit the Delete (Del) key, notice that the background turns from white to a checkerboard pattern indicating transparency
Use File / Save... and save this black-letter copy with a new name (e.g.  ABC_black.png) to your computer, somewhere, as filetype PNG - Transparent, Full-Quality
Use Adjustment / Invert to change the letters to white, notice that the transparency remains
Use File / Save... and save this white-letter copy with a new name (e.g. ABC_white.png).
    That's it.
Obviously you can do more things in this editor, but for the simple task of making transparent background PNGs from a scanned PNG that's all you need to do.

  • FlashPlayer crashes when JAWS is running

    Hi there,
I have a website in Flash that consistently crashes IE when JAWS is running (it's fine otherwise).
It's a multipage Livecycle Guide.  When you move to the second page, you get an error "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem with an add-on and needs to close"
The add-on is Flash Player FlDbg10e.ocx
I have tested this with Flash Player 9 and 10, on IE 7 and 8, with JAWS 10 and 11 - IE always crashes.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Tim

Sounds like a bug that will be fixed in Flash Player 10.1

  • JavaME SDK 3.0 with DEP crashes when MIDlet is run from Eclipse

    Hello, guys!
I experience constant crashes of the JavaME 3.0 emulator when trying to run a MIDlet. I have attempted clean installations on two separate Windows XP SP3 machines with DEP (Data Execution prevention) for the following:
    - Eclipse 3.4.2 (latest)
    - Eclipse MTJ 0.9.1 (latest)
    - Java SE SDK 6u14 (latest)
    - JavaME SDK 3.0 (latest)
I add the WTK path then populate the emulators and choose one as default. I then create the MIDlet project, add a MIDlet class with Form in it. When I try Run as Emulated JavaME JAD/MIDlet, though, the emulator crashes and gets closed with warning message that runMidlet has been closed by DEP. This only happens when the DEP option is on. When I turn it off, the emulator runs just fine.
Is there anyone with similar issue? I wondered if there's a way to go around the crash.

I'm getting the same issue, with JME SDK 3.0 latest, latest LG and Samsung SDKs too,
    Vista, sp2 for me.

  • Lightroom crashed when I Export

I've tried this with Lightroom 1.41, then I uninstalled it and went to Lightroom 1.2 to get support for my Canon 40D
I use Windows XP, SP 3. (NOTE: I thought perhaps that a clean format and reinstall would fix it, but it still crashes when I try and Export a picture I've worked on)
-I *can* successfully go to File->Export with Preset. It works then.
I cannot simply press the Export button, or File->Export. LR will crash.
INTERESTING NOTE: Before I had this version of LR, I tried the beta of LR 2. It also crashed when I would try to Export. I never did try Export with preset. However, I have formatted and reinstalled since I had the beta on. I should think anything that messed up would have gotten fixed.
My question (besides what's wrong with my install of LR) is:
What exactly *is* Export with Preset? Is there a disadantage to using it as opposed to just plain Export? It's not a big deal to me either way, but I guess it is sort of a big deal since plain old Export won't work.:-)
    Joe
    Kalispell, MT
    Canon 40D

Still not working. I've reformatted twice and reinstalled once. This latest time, I just put on XP and SP 3. Nothing else, then I installed Lightroom.
Still the same behavior, if I try to export, LR crashes. If I Export with previous (MISTAKE IN ORIGINAL POST, I MEANT EXPORT WITH PREVIOUS), it exports it as a jpg. I never do get the box in which I can choose to export as tiff, jpeg, etc...
My computer is a shopbuuilt machine, Intel D865 PERL motherboard, 2G RAM, 2-250G HDD's onboard sound and network interface, ATI Radeon 9600 vid card.
It's not a big huge deal, 99% of the time I'll want to export to jpeg. But I'd like to have the option.:-)
NOTE: I have a Toshiba laptop, XP MCE. LR works flawlessly on it.

  • Lightroom crashes when I try to access one particular folder

Recently I've been renaming and reorganizing my image folders directly from Lightroom, instead of doing this in Mac finder or Bridge. Recently I renamed one particular folder that immediately caused lightroom to crash, and then keep crashing immediately after relaunching because it keep trying to load this folder in the library mode. Finally I decided to try and quickly select a different folder before it could crash, and this indeed worked. But it still crashes every time I try to view the contents of this folder. I tried deleting this folder from the catalog and then re-importing it, but after importing 10 or so images out of 500, it crashes agian. Could there be some corrupt file in this folder or what?

I managed to get my Lightroom to a point were it crashes when I browse through certain folder.
While testing possible solution for slow thumbnails problem I did the following:
I shutdown Lightroom, renamed my preview folder, restarted Lightroom, rendered standard previews to folder X, browsed through those images few times, shutdown Lightroom again, removed new preview folder and renamed the old one back.
Now, every time I browse through the folder X my Lightroom crashes at certain point. After brief testing there is no problems when I browse through other folders. Rendering standard previews to folder X did not help. I discarded all 1:1 preview from that folder I'm now rendering them again. Maybe that helps...
Edit: Discarding and rendering 1:1 previews for all images in problematic folder removed my crashing problems.

  • Illustrator crashes when Photoshop open

This is on a new, clean OS install, Vista 64. This, in fact, is the 2nd full clean OS install I have done because of this problem.
Plenty of RAM, 4 GB. Illy and PS were rock solid on this same machine, same configuration before the OS reinstall. Now cannot work with PS open at all, since for like 10 years now I have jumped in between programs just fine, you can imagine I am hugely frustrated. Submitted so many crash reports at this point it isn't funny.
Tried different scratch discs, I haven't even loaded many fonts yet. I am at a loss...HELP!

    Hi, Tim.
It is indeed the latest Wacom drivers, as you've already found out. I managed to reproduce the problem in Windows 7 64-bit after updating the Wacom drivers to the October release.
Curiously, Illustrator only crashes when you interact with its window using the tablet, not when you use a standard mouse, so it was fairly easy for me to trace the problem to its cause.
Hopefully Wacom will address this issue (I'll send them an email. I suggest you do the same), though their update dates suggest we'll be waiting months; just use the older drivers in the mean time.
    Thanks.

  • Lightroom crashes when viewing RAW files (LR 6)

    Hey,
my LR 6 Trial Build 1018573 crashes when viewing raw files on my mac book pro late 2010. The problem occurs when I press the right arrow several times to get to the next picture. The RAW files are Fuji. I don't expiernce the problem with LR 5.7, but migrated my whole catalog.. :-/
I turned off the automatic change of graphics mode to be sure that the better graphic-card is used.
Any help or suggestions how to solve the prolbem?
    Thanks in advance!

In the Preferences dialog, Performance tab, try turning off all GPU support.
Lots of issues with the video cards, especially ATI cards.

  • Lightroom crashes when using sort by label

    Setup: LR Version 3.4, 64-bit, windows 7
I recently started using the sort by label color option. Now when I change filters or change to a different folder, I get the error "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 64-bit has stopped working", with options to Debug or Close program. It seems this only happens when I use sort by label color.
Any ideas why/how to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Nick

    Hey Brett,
Thank you for your quick respond
Well, there was a message after it crashed asking me if I want to report or send an email, which I did. Then it says that Adobe is an able to know the problem. Maybe this is the message you are talking about.
I have imported the same file from another source, and to a new catalog. same thing. In fact, I managed to apply both tools before it crashes, now every time I go to the same photo and just zoom in and out, it crashes.
I then uninstalled 4.3 and downgraded to 4.2. It works fine with this version (even the same old file that caused everything) it is just really slow version. 4.1 (straight from the CD) was REALLY fast and with no issues.. or maybe I didn't get to push it to its limits. 4.3 is slower but crashes. 4.2 is very slow but never crashes.
I'm saying that after uninstalling and reinstalling all these versions couple of times each.
I was considering upgrading my OS to 10.8.3 (even though I really don't want to) just to see if I can run 4.3 properly. But then I read that 4.3 is widely problematic and that is why 4.4 is coming out so soon.
What do you suggest? Should I stick with 4.2 for the time being? Just received a reply from another staff member saying that I should just wait for 4.4 Is there any time frame to the release?
Sorry for making it this long..
    Much obliged
    Ab

  • Lightroom quits when Photoshop CS4 is open at the same time

When I have Lightroom open at the same time as Photoshop CS4 I get the message Lightroom has encountered a problem and has to shut down. I am running the latest version of Lightroom using a PC with XP professional 64 bit. Also occasionally Lightroom reverts back to an old catalogue. Does anyone else have these problems?

Just FYI, Lightroom is not supported on XP 64 bit. This might be one of the reasons why. You might need Vista or 7. I do know many people still run it on XP 64 though.

  • Illustrator CS4 crashes when Photoshop is open

Hi, I have a problem with Illustrator CS4. Whenever I have Photoshop CS4 open at the same time as it, the program crashes completely, giving no error message to indicate why.
It runs totally fine as long as Photoshop isn't already open, or as long as you don't open Photoshop while it is still running. This is a nightmare when I want to draw certain things in Illustrator and then copy them over to Photoshop.
Anyone else experienced this or have any idea how to fix it?
    My system specs:
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU [email protected]
    3.5gb Ram
    XP service pack 3

Opened up task manager as suggested before opening the programs, and noticed there were more processes running than expected. I ran Spybot Search & Destroy which seems to have picked up a few things ad-aware hadn't, and following a reset, the problem now seems to have disappeared.
Hopefully this is what was causing the problem and it isn't just pure chance that it is working ok for now...
    Cheers for the suggestions
