Lightroom creating large cr_sdk_*.tmp files

I'm using Lightroom 4.1 RC2 on 64bit Windows 7. My C: drive is an SSD and only has about 8GB free. My catalog and Lightroom cache are both configured to live on my F: drive however, so I wouldn't have thought this would be a problem.
What I'm finding is that after an hour or so of editing (in the Develop module only), I run out of space on my C: drive which causes Lightroom to exit, and other general system instability (eg Windows Explorer dies). It looks like Lightroom is creating large files in my temp directory (C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp) called eg cr_sdk_03182513.tmp.
What are these files for and why do they get so big? Can I configure Lightroom to store them elsewhere (ideally without relocating my temp dir)?

Thanks Dorin. I'd performed a quick search of the forum but only found a few comments vaguely alluding to the problem, I missed these two threads.
I realised I could relocate my tmp directory but figured the behaviour looked more like a bug in LR than sensible use of the temp dir. Sounds like I don't have much choice other than to live with it for now; I'll move my temp folder to a different drive and hope it gets addressed in an upcoming release.
Thanks again,
Chris

  • Does Lightroom create an extra JPG file?

I'm new to Lightroom. When I import images from my camera and exit Lightroom, I notice that every JPG has been exactly duplicated with the addition of a _2 as a suffix.  The DNG files are not duplicated.  I'm quite certain my camera is not doing this, as it hasn't done this before.  This creates an extra cleanup task as I must delete all these extras.  What gives?

Since I'm new to LR, I did an Import. One other person mentioned that maybe I imported into the same folder, thus creating dups.  I will watch carefully next time. I'm willing to give LR a chance as I know many people swear by it.  I guess if someone has tens of thousands if images, fast keyword searches can be helpful, but I "catalog" my images by discrete folders, so I know where everything is.  That might not be the case when I get many more images.

What is your workflow for importing images?  Do you use something other than LR to copy images from a memery card to the HD, and then import into LR?  What option (at the top of the import window are you using for import (Add, Copy, Move, etc.)?

  • Photoshop CS6 extended creates 65,000+ tmp files

Can anyone help with a tmp file problem?  After the last update for Photoshop CS6 extended, I get 65,000+ .tmp files (all 0k size) each time that I save a jpg or targa file.  It doesn't matter if I save to the local drive or a network drive.  It also takes almost 20 minutes for the save to finish.  It then takes 15-20 minutes to delete all of them.  Images are 1.5-2mb files.
System is running Windows 7 64bit pro with 4gb of ram.  Local disk is 500 gb 7200 speed with 45% free.  Servers are both Dell PowerEdge with two separate Raid 5 each server with 4 1tb 7200 speed drives per raid.  Servers have two Intel Zeon processors and dual gigabit network cards.
    thank you

Monitor the file I/O with tools like Sysinternals' System Monitor and check what's causing the problem. Could be a mundane permissions problem with your temporary folders or otehr resource problem.

  • Smart Objects without tmp files

I am trying to place/ import a .psd as a smart object into a composite and have Photoshop keep referenceing that same psd witout it creating a local tmp file.
does anyone know fi this can be done?
    Thanks!

Embedded objects are independent of any original file. Embedded objects are a copy of whatever (file, layer, group, etc)  anything supported by Photoshop.  You can have smart object layers in a document that share a common object.  If you replace that common shared object all the smart object layers that share that the object pixels will change and be transformed by the smart object layer's associated transform.  This is often used for  creating picture packages. However the replacement object must be the same size as the original object for all the transforms to work correctly.
In fact when you update a smart object layer by double clicking on a layer's smart icon in the layers palette.  Photoshop copies the object into a unique file in your user id temp space the first time you double click on a layers smart icon as a work file. This file will remain there till the document containing the object the temp file was created for is closed in Photoshop. If you make more the a single edit  to a smart object  layer in an edit session the same file will be use only a single temp file is used any given object. Photoshop will delete any temp files it created for a document when the document is closed in Photoshop. When users commit changes to the temp work file Photoshop will update the documents embedded object. The work file may be updated  by Photoshop or a Plug-in like ACR.
There have been threads about creating  metadata links for Smart Object layer to help user try to keep things in sync.  I don't know if its possible or that is that desirable not to have versions of objects

  • Excel automatically create .tmp file when open after close Excel, tmp file still there

Anytime I save a change to one of my Excel files, the TMP file appears in the destination folder and remains.  The "main" Excel file

  • .tmp file is created by NI Report generation toolkit for logging data to MS Excel

    Hi,
I am getting ".tmp" file while logging data to MS Excel by NI Report generation toolkit. Instead of assigned file name, toolkit is generating a junk value with .tmp extension, but I can able to open this .tmp file with MS Excel.
Can anyone help to solve this issue?

    Hi Thirumala,
You may experience issues when you try to save a Microsoft Excel file if one or more of the following conditions are true:
    1. You save an Excel file to a network drive where you have restricted permissions.
    2. You save an Excel file to a location that does not have sufficient drive space.
    3. The connection to the Excel file has been lost.
    4. There is a conflict with an antivirus software program.
    5. You save an Excel file that is shared.
    6. The 218-character path limitation has been exceeded when you save an Excel file.
    7. The Transition Formula Evaluation feature is turned on in Excel.
    8. The file was created from a template that contains embedded objects.

  • How FND_FILE.PUT_LINE create tmp file in app tier and move it to db tier?

i have a concurrent program runs in application tier which uses FND_FILE.PUT_LINE... does anyone know whether is that true that when the concurrent program runs, it will create a temp file in the database tier ($APPLTMP), and once the program finished/done, it will copy the output to application tier ($APPLCSF/$APPLOUT and $APPLCSF/$APPLLOG - out file and log file)? if it is true, how does Oracle copy the file from database tier to application tier?
    here is my current setting:
    - concurrent program runs in application tier
    - mount $APPLTMP (set it as first entry in utl_file_dir) in database tier on applicate tier
    - tmp file creates in $APPLTMP (database tier)
    - out file creates in $APPLCSF/$APPLOUT (application tier)
    - log file creates in $APPLCSF/$APPLLOG (application tier)
we occasionally run into problem creating tmp file. so, am wondering is there any best practice for concurrent program? should we run it in application tier or database tier?
    help is highly appreciated. thanks.

    Hi, Hussien.
Our problem is... occasionally we run into "ORA-20100: File lxxx.tmp creation for FND_FILE failed" error. 0 bytes temporary file created, but out/log files created with data/output. That's why we don't know what did we do wrong.
We followed metalink 261693.1, tried all the possiblities... still no luck on temporary files (created with 0 bytes).
The problem (ORA-20100) comes and goes. Very inconsistent. Created simple package to test FND_FILE.PUT_LINE, it looks like nothing is wrong with that. So, not sure did we miss something.
    Thanks.

  • What format are the .tmp files created by hp scanner deskjet f2400?

What format are the .tmp files created by hp scanner deskjet f2400?  I had a customer get the dreaded "out of space" error after scanning over a hundred pages that she was going to have all in one multipage pdf.  So all that work was gone (each page was a painstaking layout of multiple elements, etc.), except for the hpfAAAA.tmp files.
I'm trying to recover the data.  I should say, the data is now recovered, but now I must figure out a way to use it.  How can I open these HP .tmp files?  What format are they saved in?  There is no human-readable header to give me a clue.
If anyone can help me, it would be much appreciated.  You will be saving a very nice woman many hours of work duplicating what she already did.  Thanks,

    Hi LC475,
There would be no way to read the .tmp file. Unfortunately she will need to free up space on her hard drive before attempting to scan the documents again.

  • Tmp files created on desktop while running queries

    Hello
I have on some PC's a problem while running reports in Discoverer Desktop: for each report I run, a tmp file is being created on desktop and its not being deleted after closing the Discoverer.
    can someone advice?
    thanks

Once you close Discoverer you can delete if you want.
As suggested by Michael, you can put them in a location where you know you can delete them later, but really, you only need to delete them if you feel like it.
Of course, you could always get a shareware product like 'crapcleaner' - I know ... bad name, but good product ... that can be set to delete things like .tmp files whenever run.

  • Can i create AIF or WAV files larger then 4 gig?

Can i create AIF or WAV files larger then 4 gig?  It seems like I have been doing that all along, but suddenly FCPX and Compressor 4 will not allow me to create and AIF file bigger then 4gig.  It claims that the file format does not support sizes above 4

    Hi...
per def. WAV 32bit does not support larger files than 4GB (sometimes 2GB).
You can use the BroadCast WAV format. Which will enable that.
However, if the destination format (Your final movie you wanna export to in Compressor and Fcpx) is WAV and not broadcast WAV it wont work due to the 4GB limit.
    Aiff is limited as well.
    Here are a few sources:

  • Creating large text files

What is the fastest as well as less memory intensive way to create large files.
    Current State
I have an application where I am reading the database and processing the information (formatting it) and using some third party API to add the information and then finally save as text file. The problem is since its third party API and we do not have any control on that and it takes very long time to generate the files
    Future state
I want to build the file generator which will read from the database and then process/format the information one by one. Now I have following options.
    1) Add the processed information in a StringBuffer line by line and at the end of it create a file from the StringBuffer and save it.
    2) Create a custom object with different ArrayLists and keep on adding the processed lines into appropriate lists and at the end of it while saving it to a file read the custom object and save it as a file.
    3) Create a file at the start of it and then keep on adding and flushing the lines one by one and at the end of it close the file.
For handling files I was thinking of using PrintWriter. I am talking about the text files anyware from 50 KB to 20 MB.
I have performance concerns as well as memory issues. So I want a balanced solution so that I am able to handle both.

Use a BufferedWriter to write each line/entry/record as you process it.
Don't do any special flushing() (unless you need special transactional properties in which case you need a lot more than simple flush() calls).

I created a large Flash Pro file which includes buttons and I want to share it with others. It's too big for e-mail and youtube and dropbox don't support fla files. I'm new to Flash and I would appreciate a simple solution!
    Thank you!

Thank you! But based on the link you gave me it seems like I should only have to do step 1 since I am not trying to embed my file into a web page. After I uploaded the SWF file to the Google Drive it still will not play. It keeps opening in Adobe Device Central and won't play anything. Should I go ahead and do step 2?
I really just want the video available to share with others. It seems like this shouldn't be very difficult.
