Lightroom doesn't show Histogram, Exit Properly, or load previews

I've installed both Lightroom CC and Lightroom 6 on multiple machines.  I'm experiencing the following difficulties with both.
1.  When I exit from Lightroom CC or Lightroom 6 (Yosemite 10.10.3), the program appears to exit, but doesn't actually close.  I have to use either the activity manager or CTRL-ALT-ESC to "Force Quit".
2.  While in Lightroom CC, histograms do not appear in the histogram box either in the library or develop module.
3.  On many images, the preview will not load in a reasonable length of time (5 minutes).
My hardwares are:  1)  a Trash Can Mac Pro (2014) with 32 GB RAM, 6 cores, 3.5 GHz per core, and the 1 TB flash drive (0.7 TB free).
2) 2011 (Late) Mac Pro, 3.4 GHz Quad Core, 32 GB RAM, 2 TB Hard drive (1.8 TB free).
I've tried uninstalling, followed by reinstalling both programs, I've redownloaded the Lightroom 6 and Lightroom CC programs directly from Adobe.  I've rebooted my machines.  I've signed out of the CC and signed back in.
Right now I'm mostly frustrated by the inability to use the program for anything function.
Any suggestions.

Thanks Victoria, here you go.
SSD is my root volume (most people would have "Macintosh HD" instead), so that is where /Users/… resides: so for example my home folder is at /Users/dave which is the same as /Volumes/SSD/Users/dave. You can see that saving from PS has made LR think I have image folders at /Users/… when I do not, and never have. You can see below "SSD" is the volume "Users" where the real image folders live (an external Firewire drive in this case).
I have expanded "Show Parent" to the root of each volume in that screenshot.
So under SSD, "/Users/Lightroom Photos 2/…" is bogus and under Users "Lightroom Photos 2" is legitimate.

  • I installed CS6 and now Lightroom doesn't show CS5 as an Edit option

I installed CS6 and now Lightroom doesn't show CS5 as an Edit option. CS5 is still installed on my computer. How can I add it to Lightroom Edit options?
    Mac 10.6.8

You can add CS5 as an "Additional External Editor" on the External Editing Tab of the Preferences panel. See this screenshot, I have Photoshop CS5 as my prime editor, and have added CS3 as an additional external editor:
Then when you use "Edit In...." you'll see both options available..

  • BEWARE "Copyright Status", "Copyrighted" tag added in Lightroom doesn't show when image is opened in

When meta data is added in Lightroom using the "Copyright Status" tag one would assume that the copyright symbol (©) would be visible in the image title when opened up in it's sister product Photoshop just like when using Bridge to add the same add meta data, well it doesn't.
Those of us who make a living from licensing the rights to use images rely on copyright and notification thereof as an important part of being able to defend our rights. For a company that produces software for the purpose of disseminating such images I am surprised that two of their main products don't speak the same Meta data language. This is a serous bug for me and causes yet another step be taken in the work-flow outside of this otherwise good product.
Those of you who don't know what I am talking about regarding your copyright ownership of the images should follow this URL http://www.asmp.org/commerce/legal/copyright/index.php to get educated on this important issue for intellectual property creators.

I'm having issues with the IPTC copyright fields when I export TIFFs from LR2. Specifically, it cuts the word limit to 128 characters, clipping my terms in half.
The 128-character limit is imposed by the IPTC standard:
    http://www.iptc.org/std/IIM/4.1/specification/IIMV4.1.pdf
Note that LR stores the value of the Copyright field of the IPTC metadata panel in three different metadata locations in a file's Exif data:
    EXIF:Copyright
    XMP:Rights
    IPTC:CopyrightNotice
It is only the last that the standards require to be truncated to 128 characters.  Newer programs like LR give precedence to the XMP fields if they are present, but older programs still use the legacy EXIF and IPTC fields.  In particular, when reading metadata from a file, if XMP:Rights is present, LR will use that for the Copyright value instead of IPTC:CopyrightNotice.
Thus, you can have Copyright values longer than 128 characters in LR, and LR will preserve those values properly in the EXIF and XMP metadata, but the values in the legacy  IPTC:CopyrightNotice field must be truncated according to the standard.  If possible, adjust your workflow to use the XMP metadata instead.

  • Lightroom doesn't show up in Cloud Ap. Manager

How do I get the Lightroom to show up in the Application Manager. I have tried numerous times and still nothing.

Got it, just replying to myself. Go to the top of the manager, try signing out then signing in again. I had to use my adobe log in information and then the light room showed up.

  • IPhone & iOS7 doesn't show music tags properly

I have an issue with iOS7 (from Beta 6, GM and now the full release) not showing edited album details properly on music downloaded from the iTunes store.
Example: I have a song that I edited the album title of in iTunes (was an album title with an unnecessary bracket section in the titles which was deleted)
I then deleted the song from the iPhone & re-synced, and the track came up with the original title as downloaded from the iTunes Store, not the edited version I did in iTunes itself before re-syncing.
I do not use iTunes Match, made sure that is turned off
Updating to iOS7 GM, and full release versions, and deleting & re-syncing the entire library hasn't had an effect.
Any ideas, or is this the Music app & iOS7 doing it's best to annoy people for no good reason??

Keyserchris, I have to apologize for the post above.  The trigger is not airplane mode.  The trigger is signing out of iTunes on your iPhone/iPad/iPod.
Here's a new test for you to try:
    Make sure your iTunes library is updated with your edited album names;
    Find a song on your iPhone where the album name is incorrect;
    Delete the song from your iPhone;
On your iPhone go to "Settings>iTunes & App Store" and tap your Apple ID (highlighted in blue).
    Tap "Sign Out";
    Go back to your iTunes library and select the song/album that you want back on your iPhone;
    The iPhone should now show your edited album tag;
Once your done you can sign back to "Settings>iTunes & App Store" and sign back in.  Your edits will hold.
In addition, this also works with artist pictures.  I did not like the stock images iTunes associated with my artists - I wanted album art instead.  After you sign out of your Apple ID, when you move a song/album from your iTunes library to your iPhone the FIRST album you move over will be associated with that artist.
For example, I have seven AC/DC albums but I want the cover of "Back in Black" to be associated with AC/DC on my iPhone's artist listing.  After I've signed out of my Apple ID, I transfer "Back in Black" to my iPhone and then the other six albums in any order.  "Back in Black" will be the album picture associated with AC/DC on the artist page.
Just remember, after your changes you can sign back into iTunes through "Settings>iTunes & App Store" and your changes to edited albums and artist cover art should hold.

  • Excel spreadsheet export doesn't show chinese characters properly

    Hi all.
I've created the excel export option following the steps in Bex's book, and it's working fine, but I'm not able to export results in UTF8. I'm facing problems when the dDoctitle for some documents is in chinese.
So far, I've tried adding the charset <$setContentType("text/csv; *charset=UTF-8*")$>, but it doesn't seem to work. I've also tried setting different content types and charsets without success.
    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, I have it and I can see other chinese websites. Moreover, in Content Server, I see correctly (in chinese) the dDoctitle field i'm trying to export. In fact I've written some titles in chinese just to test it. It's in the csv file where I see the strange characters.
    Thanks.

  • Lightroom doesn't show and use drive B:

    Hello,
I have many partitions and drives in my PC (Win 7 64 Bit Ultimate), so I'm using drive B: for my pictures. There are no problems with Win7 or other programs but LR doesn't recognize this drive B: neither for import nor for saving files to folder. What can I do (except for giving drive B: another letter - there's no letter left!).
    Thank you
    Doc

    See this feedback topic:
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/drive_letters_missing_in_import_dest ination_on_windows
It includes two workarounds -- changing the assignment of letters and mounting the drive to avoid the use of letters entirely.  Please vote on that topic to capture the attention of Adobe.

  • I've just purchased the photographer's package, but the download for Lr doesn't show in my app list?

I've just purchased the photographer's package, but the download button for Lightroom doesn't show in my app list. How come?
I've checked everything and my computer system should be able to run it perfectly.

From what I can tell you won't be presented with apps Adobe thinks are not compatible with your system but I don't see why that would be true in your case. It is supposed to be possible to download the trial and then convert it to the cloud. Maybe you can try that. Here are the instructions for Photoshop. Hopefully it's similar for Lightroom. The link for Lightroom instructions on this page just goes to the same page.

Sorry not to be more help.

  • Metadata conflict: Doesn't show location data

    Hello there,
I imported some pictures to Lightroom and edited them there normally. After closing lightroom I edited the location information via GeoSetter (www.geosetter.de). Looking at the images via ACDSee, I see correctly entered City, Sublocation, Procince, Country Code and Country Name in the IPTC data.
Firing up Lightroom 2, I do not see these metadata changes, location fields are all empty. So I click on Synchronize folder and synchronize Metadata. Lightroom now gives all images a Metadata status of "Has been changed". When I click on "Resolve conflict", the location data still is not shown, but actually the location data is deleted when looking at the image again via GeoSetter (or ACDSee) - basically the Lightroom-state-of-things (no locationdata) has been restored I guess. Ok, moving on.
I go back to GeoSetter and reset the location to where it should be, click on synchronize metadata in Lightroom again and the Metadata status is "up to date" - no "resolve conflict" possible, the problem now is:
The location data is STILL in the IPTC fields, Lightroom doesn't show it though, location fields are empty and stay empty even after synchronizing, or Lightroom deletes it as previously stated.
What is the correct way to edit metadata externally and how to tell Lightroom to resolve the metadata conflict by ACCEPTING the external changes and not reverting to the status quo?
    Sincerely,
    Dennis

    >will this method not revert any prior changes made to the images? (e.g. Crop, Keywords, Local Adjustments).
It will, which as you have already figured out, isn't a good idea.
I don't know anything about Geosetter, but my guess is that it's writing the data back into the original photos. Unfortunately, Lightroom doesn't see these changes when Sync folder command is used because it's looking for a Metadata Change date, which is normally stored in XMP. There is a workaround though.
You haven't mentioned the type of files that you're working with, but I'll assume they're raw. If so the workaround is to use the Lr "Save Metadata to file" command before working on them with the external application (Geosetter). This will create an XMP file for each photo that contains all your existing metadata plus any Develop adjustments. Now you can save the new IPTC back to the files using Geosetter. Once that part is completed you can use the "Read Metadata from file" command knowing that all your original Lr metadata and develop adjustments will be copied back along with the new IPTC info.
Above also works with JPEG and TIFF files

  • I am not able to import photos into Lightroom 5.7.  When I select a folder, it doesn't show a preview of the images and the import button is greyed out. ??

I am not able to import photos into Lightroom 5.7.  When I select a folder, it doesn't show a preview of the images and the import button is greyed out. ??
I have been using Lightroom 5 for 2-3 months now and all worked well, up until today's effort to import a new set of photos. I am working on a Mac with Yosemite 10.10.1.

Go to the bibliothec module, select the folder, right click on the folder and hit synchronize
Sorry I have only a german version , so don't know what your menu will show.

  • Lightroom 3.3 doesn't show all images of a folder

I have used Lightroom since version 1.0 and at the moment I am using v3.3.
Now I have following problem and I can't find a solution for it:
In the Navigator I have synchronized my complete folder where I store all of my photos. This folder contains more than 50000 photos already in many subfolders. But now I found some subfolders not showing all their content. I can see in the Navigator e.g. 216 pictures beside the folder name but in the preview I can see only 3 pictures! And I found some more folders which doesn't show their full content.
I tried to sychronize the single folder again but Lightroom says there were no new pictures and also no missing pictures to remove from the folder. If I open the folder by the Windows Explorer then I can see that all the files for the 216 pictures are there! So there must be a problem with the lightroom database!
But now I don't know what to do to get the pictures displayed in the library again.
I would appreciate any idea regarding this problem.
    Best regards,
    Jochen

Your FTP behaves strange! It doesn't keep the created directory and everything disappears shortly after uploading. Anything wrong with that?
LOL!  Sorry, the login details I gave you were to the public upload, which then get hidden so no one else can download your files.  I can see you're busy uploading ok, so I'll take a proper look in a bit.  No I don't need the previews, just the cataog and a few problem files is great.
Ok, when the uploads are finished then you will have my current database, a screenshot of Lightroom which show no pictures in the library (and the preview) of a folder (all filters off, tried to synchronize already,) but it shows clearly that there are 31 pictures in the folder normally.
I also uploaded some of the pictures of this folder.
In past I could see the pictures in Lightroom - I can remember that.
    Thanks and best regards,
    Jochen

Lightroom trial doesn't show complete menu selections or import button.  Also get error message on launch:  An error occurred when attempting to change modules.  I am unable to find/see the following file to try renaming the SLCache and SLStore files:  System Library/Application Support/Adobe.  Any ideas?  I only have 16 days left on the trial and have been unable to get it to work on my Macbook Pro.  This is all I am seeing after Lightroom opens.  Thanks!

Thanks to both of you for attempting to help.  I finally figured out what was wrong . . . it was a Permissions problem.  Very frustrating, but after scouring the troubleshooting tips I finally found the one that solved my problem.  I had to add a User and give it Read/Write privileges to Lightroom.  The file I had to add the User to was Hidden on my Mac, so that added an even bigger challenge to the mystery.  Only a few days left on my trial version!  I hope I have time to try it out!

  • Photoshop doesn't show Lightroom settings, like cropping

    Hello,
    - I'm on Mac OS 10.9.1 (Maverick)
    - I have a scanned tiff file inported in LR 5.3
    - I do some adjustments in LR, like cropping, curves, etc...
    - I choose "Modify in Photoshop CC", with the top option "Modify a copy with lightroom settings" (supposed translated command from french versions)
    - A file is opened in PS CC last version (14.1.2)
    - The opened file doesn't show the LR settings (the cropping is not applied, for example)
If I export to tiff in place of modifying in PS, the generated tiff file is correct and includes all LR settings.
I use Photoshop since the beta version and LR since 1.0 and I'm an experienced user.
This is something that seems to have appeared only a few weeks or month ago (Maverick ? LR 5.3 ?)
I tried a lot of things but this keeps happening.
    Any idea ?
    Many thanks.

My problem seems to be now resolved.
    - I uninstalled PS CC with the uninstaller
    - I restarted my Mac
    - I reinstalled PS CC from the CC menu
    - Opened LR, chose Edit in PS CC
    - picture opened correctly in PS with all LR settings
    - I then reinstalled my third party plugins, one by one
    - the culprit was one of the Nik Software (now Google) plug-in.
I did several times the uninstall reinstall operations to be sure and it is clearly confirmed.
