Lightroom + EOS 450D RAW's

So I download the images from my card using the software provided etc. And browse through them using Digital Photo Professional or Canon ZoomBrowser.
But I notice when I import them into LightRoom that they are slightly different than when I look at them in the previously stated programs. Its like they have had there contrast maybe upped a bit or they're a bit underexposed or saturated than when viewed in Digital Photo Professional or Canon ZoomBrowser.
Its not too much of a hassle but I don't understand why the pictures are changed without any editing.
Is it just me?
Sorry if this topic has been brought up a lot before.
Cheers, Patrick

Lightroom uses a different profiling method from those other apps, so you will be starting from a different point.
Try downloading the new DNG Profile Editor and its accompanying profiles. With those installed you may see something similar to the other apps.

It is a familiar topic! :)

  • Canon EOS 450d RAW files and Aperure 2.1

    Hi everybody!
Can anyone tell me if Aperture 2.1 (under Leopard 10.5.6) handles RAW files of my Canon EOS 450d?
Because, from this page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1475, it seems that this camera is supported. Actually Aperture show me correctly only the thumbnails. In fact RAW photos become totally red and "Unsupported format" message is displayed when I try to open them.
So I can't use Aperture, my favourite program, for image editing (yes, jpeg still works... but RAW is more powerful).
Is it a problem of my iMac or it's a bug of Mac OSX?
Thank you for your kindly help guys!

Actually I've found out that this is in fact a bug with the EOS 450D 1.0.4 Firmware. It happens only when you transfer RAW's directly from your camera.
If you use a Cardreader or update your 450D firmware, everything works as it should (in aperture 2.1.2 and the latest RAW update).
Unfortunately I don't think this will fix RAW's that exist in your library, if you check the files themselves you will see that the file size is way to small to be a RAW. So hope you didn't format your SD card yet..
here's a link to the FW update: http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/firm-e/eosdigital4/firmware.html

  • IPhoto '08 won't import RAWs from Canon EOS 450D

I did install the "Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 2.1", but even so, I am not able to import RAW images from my Canon EOS 450D, only jpgs. The error message I get is:
"The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)."
How do I solve this? The camera is brand new. Is a firmware reflash in order? How?
    Anyone else experience this?

Try using Image Capture to upload the files to the desktop and then import from there.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Photoshop CC will not open EOS 40D RAW files

I recently updated to Photoshop CC 2014 but cannot open Canon EOS 40D .CR2 RAW files.
I can open and edit them in Lightroom but if I attempt to 'Edit in...' Photoshop from Lightroom, I get a message suggesting that I update to Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 8.6 using the update tool in the Photoshop help menu.
However, the Updates... menu item is greyed out, unavailable.
How can I resolve this issue?

    Thank you again, JJMack.
As soon as you start CC 2014 press and hold Ctrl+Alt+shift or CMD+Optiom+Shift Photoshop should prompt it you want your preferences deleted.
I have tried to reset preferences, a couple of times, both by deleting the file 'Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 Prefs.psp' and by using the keyboard shortcut you suggest (also to both older versions of Photoshop on my drive) but the 'Update...' option under Help remains greyed out (on all versions).
All PS version install by default on the Boot disk and happy coexist. Problem arise when you install newer version of PS then use Adobe uninstllers to un-install previous versions. Often this process messes up file associations of the newer install. I just delete the install tree.
I don't recall ever having used an uninstaller. I have twice cloned my entire boot disk however, complete with all applications including Photoshop, most recently about a year or so ago when switching to a SSD. I don't know if that might have messed things up along the way. I have no idea what deleting the install tree entails?
The superscription versions of Photoshop CS6 13.1, CC 14.2.1 and CC 15.0 as well as the perpetual version of CS6 13.0  should have just been updated with ACR 8.6 you should not need  to convert to DNG for there version of PS. If your Cannon is very new you may need to convert to DNG for CS5.
Re: Photoshop CC will not open EOS 40D RAW files
My Canon EOS 70D is listed as supported by ACR 8.6 and in fact, having now hunted down the ACR 8.6 download link (why is it so hidden? why isn't incorporated into the Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 installer?) and installed it, Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 does now open my .CR2 files directly in ACR 8.6 in Photoshop.
    So problem solved, I guess.
All except the greyed out 'Updates...', which still lingers on.
Thanks again for all your help.

  • EOS 450D - Aperture 2.1.4 | Unsupported Image Format

    Hi good people...
There seems to be other out there with this problem but I have yet to find a resolution. I am using the following :
    Canon EOS 450D
    Aperture 2.1.4
    Snow Leopard 10.6.1
Neither iPhoto 0'9 (8.1) or Aperture will read and display my 450D CR2 Raw files. I have reinstalled Aperture and made sure the RAW update has been applied. All Apple documentation states it should work but I can't get it to.
Any ideas....I just want to use my new camera....!! Arrr

The page to look at is here:
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
The 450D is supported; I don't see that the S90 is supported yet.
.CR2 is not a single file format; in fact the RAW data is different for _every single camera_ which means Mac OS X (and Aperture) has to do work to explicitly support it. I'm not familiar with the S90, but if it's brand new, you may be in for a bit of a wait to get RAW format support. Apple typically won't comment or give ETAs, to pre-empt the next question.

  • How can I use EOS 6D RAW files with Aperture 3.2.4?

The EOS 6D RAW support for Aperture requires Aperture 3.4 or later. I tried to update to Aperture 3.4 but that requires OSX 10.8.3. I am stuck with OSX 10.6.8 for a while because I use Adobe CS5.5 and it is not compatable with newer OSX. So i do not seem to have a path for 6D RAW support. I can use my EOS 20D RAW files just fine. What is it about the 6D RAW file that necessitates OSX 10.6.8 or Aperture 3.4?

The common way is to try converting to DNG and then use the DNGs with Aperture. The drawback (other than the format conversion) is you lose camera specific optimisations with the DNG (mostly noise reduction tweaks for specific ISO values and colour tweaks).
In the past it would have been easy to edit a few config files to get Aperture to recognise new cameras with similar sensor tech as existing cameras, but this data is now encoded so can't be changed. It is a bit frustrating when you know there is nothing special about the sensor and Aperture would be able to process the data just fine.

  • Has anyone had issues with poor image quality when using lightroom to process raw images from Canon 7dmk2

    Hi everyone..
..I have been having image quality issues when using Lightroom to process raw files from a 7d mk2... They are all soft with poor clarity.....tonight in despair I tried processing them  using  canon's software and they are totally different..."much better"
    anyone else had similar problems....Andy

I have a 7D2 and have not had what I interpret as poor image quality that has anything to do with the camera.
Can you post a screenshot of what you’re seeing and what specifically you don’t like?  Maybe there is something you can do differently or at least there may be an explanation for what you’re seeing.
And if you have a raw image that you wouldn’t mind sharing in a public forum, upload to http://www.dropbox.com/ then post a public share link to it in a reply, here.
In other words post a screenshot of what you see in LR, another of what you see using DPP, and a link to the raw file you’re processing.

  • Lightroom and Camera Raw

I am in the early stages of trying Lightroom 4. There are some great features and may purchase a copy after the trail ends.
However, I have a question about using Lightroom with older versions of Photoshop.
I made some changes to an image, mostly used the Lens Correction feature, changed the white balance and changed the tone curve as my images always look a little flat.
At the end of "developing" I like to add some sharpening. I prefer to use Photoshop for this as I use different mettods depending on what result I want.
When I chose Photo > Edit In > Photoshop CS4 (CS4 being the version of Photoshop I have) I get a message along the lines of Lightroom needing Camera Raw 6.7. If I select open anyway I see the original flat image before I made the changes in Lightroom. Is this correct.
My version of Photoshop is fully updated but the version of Camera Raw is 5.7. Can I get Photoshop to "use" Lightroom instead of Camera Raw?
I did once click a button that said something along the line of Use Lightroom, but Photoshop started to "do stuff" with the images I had imported into Lightroom. What was it doing?
    I hope that makes sense.
    Thanks for any help.
    Chris.

You should choose the option to open a copy with Lightroom settings. When you open an image from Lightroom into Photoshop, ACR is used to translate the adjustments made in Lightroom. Since you are using an older version, ACR cannot translate all of the adjustments. So it's best to let Lightroom create the copy first because it will include all of your Lightroom adjustments. It's really only a difference of WHEN the copy is made because after you make changes in Photoshop the new file has to be created anyway.

  • Does Lightroom 4, or Lightroom 5 support Raw format from the new Nikon Df camera?

Does Lightroom 4, or Lightroom 5 support Raw format from the new Nikon Df camera?
    Can anyone please tell me?
If not, is there a way for me to get the photo's in to Lightroom in another manner?

LR 4 no. LR 5.3 support added. If you have used an earlier version of Nikon software to download the nef files to your computer this may have made the files unreadable in Lightroom.

  • Lightroom to Camera Raw

I cannot open raw files from Lightroom in Camera Raw when I choose "edit with photoshop" from the LIghtroom menu. They simply open in photoshop itself and not Camera Raw. I am using Photoshop CS6 (latest upgrade) and LIghtroom 4 (Latest upgrade) on a Mac. Any help appreciated

Thanks for your replies. Mostly you have highlighted my problem. I have just switched to Photoshop and LR. Previously I was using Aperture 3. I do prefer the Camera Raw operation over the LR editing as it seems both quicker on my Mac and I find the interface easier to use.
I am hoping to use LR for its database and tracking. Ido backup to a seperate HD from the one I use for LR itself. The attaraction for me in opening a RAW file in Camera Raw before going to Ps6 is that sometimes I don't need to do the latter - but either way LR promises to keep track of editing and changes much the same as Aperture did.
Not sure if this is totally logical but I had hoped that the connection between LR and Camera Raw/Photoshop would be a direct and simple one. In fact I thought I read somewhere that choosing a raw file in LR and then "edit in Photoshop" should automatically open the file in Camera Raw and then progress on to Photoshop as its next step.  Perhaps I am expecting too much?  I am new to the forum and Ps6/LR but keen to learn.
Thanks everyone for your help  Cheers

  • Lightroom VS Camera Raw

I'd appreciate some input. I've been using lightroom 3.2 for some time and really like it for organizing my photos and most editing chores. I had been using PSE for what I couldn't do in Lightroom. I've recently switched to PS CS5, something I should have done a long time ago.
My dilemma is this; should I also switch from Lightroom to Camera Raw? Is there a definite advantage to using Camera Raw VS Lightroom?
    Thanks,

First, I don't think you have to "pick" one or the other exclusively.  They're both tools you can use, and importantly, they both use the same underlying engine to process images.
The primary difference is in how the work flows.
If you process a lot of images to a final product in a "production" type of environment, then you might find LightRoom more agreeable.  To work on "quality rather than quantity", perhaps you'll want to open an individual image into Photoshop through Camera Raw, and process it further in Photoshop.
Nothing is absolute; Camera Raw can be used to process (small) sets of images, and of course Lightroom can be used to process one image.

  • When will lightroom support d750 raw files?

when will lightroom support d750 raw files?

No one who knows can say and no one who says knows.  I’d GUESS it’ll be before the end of November, around the time Canon releases the 7D Mark II which has already been announced by has a ship date sometime in November according to B&H.
While you’re waiting, you can download the DNG Converter 8.7 RC from Adobe Labs, and convert your NEFs to DNGs and import those DNGs into LR.  The DNGC is in the CS6 branch of the ACR 8.7 download, here:
