Lightroom error, changing modules, on new iMac

Help.
I cannot get LR5 to open on my new iMac. Using OSX 10.9.1, LR 5.3. I consistently get the 'error on changing modules' message, and no catalog will open. I cannot create a new catalog, or open an old one. I've deleted and re-installed LR, CC, all pref and support files, several times using the uninstallers, drag and trash, all no help.
Running same app, same OS, on MacBook Pro with NO problems. I had transferred images, catalogs from an old MacPro with OSX 10.7.5, but I don't see where that should cause a problem. I can put the same catalog on the MBP and LR runs fine.
Any help sincerely appreciated.

Thanks for the reply, but I've already been all over that page.
Solution 1:  I have version 5.3. Is there a newer one?
Solution 2:  Preference files trashed multiple times with no improvement.
Total uninstall, re-install, same problem.
Solution 3:  No better. New catalog created from within LR, same problem.
Open LR with option key, choose catalog, test for integrity, same problem.
Solution 4: Uninstalled Nik, even though it states for LR3. No better, same
problem. Note: re-installed Nik, it did not recognize LR, recognized
Photoshop without problem. BTW, Photoshop is working great.
Solution 5: Permissions are set correctly on all folders. Will re-check ONE
more time, just to be sure.
Solution 6: New user account. Have not done this yet. Hard to see why this
would be a problem, as I just obtained the computer four days ago, and I am
the only user. But in the interests of completeness, I will give it a try.
Could this be some new iMac issue? Graphics card?
Using iMac 27", 3.5 GHz i7; 16GB RAM, 3TB Fusion drive; Nvidia GTX 780M.
This is very frustrating. I need to get back to work and something is wrong
here.

  • Lightroom CC: cannot create library: error changing modules

Hi, I cannot create a Library in Lightroom due to the following error. "an error occurred when attempting to change modules".  I am getting no where with customer service.

Have you been through this help article?

  • Error changing modules - please please help!!

Okay, I'd be really grateful of any input here. I am on an imac, running leopard 10.5.5.
I have and love CS3. I've previously ran Lightroom 1 on a PC. when I changed over to a mac, I attempted to run lightroom 1 on it. it wouldnt run - up came the error changing modules message. a little web browsing led me to think that was because I was running such a new OS. so I left it, {trashed the install} until I got this lightroom 2.
ligthroom 2 will not run, I get to upload the software, but the screen is just the black background, no full menus and the error message ALL the time I click anything.
I've been working my way thro the troubleshooting here, and deleted the com.lists. trashed the uploda dn reinstalled. still the errors. I've finally got it uploaded on a test user name, logging myself out. however, I cannot copy or drag, or access the correctly running version once back in my 'real'user name. I have tried deleting the correct upload afterwards. . nope.
I have tried so much I'm really losing heart.
I'm totally sure that somehow uploading or attempting to upload the lightroom 1 has somehow caused this.
    what do you think?

many thanks JOhn, last night, I copied all the module folders from the working version on a different user name and put them in the {empty} modules folder {in application support/adobe/lightroom} under my name. this made the full screen of library light up, have full menus and I got very excited I'd fixed it. sadly I hadnt, when I attempted to change to slideshow or any of the other options up popped the error message again. :( I'm now off to see if I can find this .lock file.
can you tell me how to find it? where is it ? my apologies for being a little dim here, I'm way outa my depth already...

Thanks for the suggestion. The AppleCare technician had me try an SMC Reset and it corrected the problem. There is information in this inthe article below.

  • My new lr3 comes up with  the usual error changing modules....

Hello. I've just purchased a lot of adobe software, cs5 Production Premium and Lightroom 3. Now adobe has loaded on fine and is working, but lightroom, asks for my serial number which i enter and then continues to try open, only to come up with the frequently common issue of errors with changing modules.
Now i have only just brought a new Imac this week as well, so i have no idea how to get around it yet and from other discussions on the forum i am so confused and have no idea how to find all the files for the software.
I've deleted and reinstalled now around 9 times, even tried installing it on my external hard drive which had the same thing happen. It works fine from my guest account, but i don't want to access it all the time in there as i have nik software which i need to use through it and every time i go to use nik i have to enter my product codes, which don't seem to save as it is a guest account.
Please help, i have about 3 shoots of images i need to go through, i swapped over from my pc with cs2 on it for this software only to have these issues. I am useless as to how to even move about on the mac yet so i really need step by step instructions i am that bad!!
    thanks
    bigsarg.7

It is some kind of permissions issue, and weirdly it often seems to be linked to Nik software.  I wonder if Nik's putting a file there with different permissions - did you install Nik first, by any chance?
Anyway, to fix, you can just copy the files over from the other account.  Copy the folder from the guest account after you've entered your serial number in LR3 in the guest account.  You might need to transfer them to another shared location temporarily.
From memory, primary folder to transfer is Macintosh HD / Users / [username] / Library / Application Support / Adobe / Lightroom /
Give that a shot and see if it does the trick.

  • "error changing modules" on mac

I have Lightroom 1.3.1 running on a 2 GHz intel mac with 2GB Ram, OSX 10.4.11.
I recentley got a new Sigma dp1 camera and shot some images in RAW, used the supplied software to process that into a tiff file that I tried to load into lightroom. The image showed up in lightroom in a different library, but when I try now to get to all of my old images I just get "an error occurred when attempting to change modules". All that shows up now is a grey screen (no side panels).
What I am really worried about saving is the settings that I have in the develop modules for my previous photos. Is there some way that I could at least save those if I need to uninstall/reinstall lightroom.
    Thanks for any help.

Having same issue on Leopard 10.5. 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo. 4 gb 667 ram.
Have tried reinstalling, but to no avail. Also tried to find plist file, but could not find a plist file that related to LR specifically, only a big list. Used Appdelete to uninstall. How do I find the plist file for LR?
Want to try installing 1.3, but am not able because some residual files on the computer won't let me install an older version. Any ideas on finding those files?
    Any other suggestions?

  • Error: 150:30 on new iMac with Lion

    Hello,
My InDesign CS4 does not start after I bought a new iMac (August 2011) with Lion (with the latest updates of Apple):
'Licensing for this product has stopped working (...)
    Error: 150:30'
Restarting the computer, as suggested in the message, doesn't work.
Can anyone tell me what to do to solve this problem?
    Thank you!
    Edzard Krol

Thanks for the reply. I did try all other suggestions. According to many posts, these steps worked for many people, just not me. Perhap the following will be useful for someone in my predicament:
    - I didn't have FLEXnet Publisher in Prefs (it didn't migrate with everything else to my new iMac).
    - Someone actually said they had success when they added FLEXnet Publisher back to their prefs, but that didn't work for me, either.
    - I changed permissions on the files they suggested, didn't work.
    - I repaired permissions with Disk Utility, didn't work.
    - And finally, could not open License Recovery (error said PPC no longer supported, as I mentioned).
BUT: this did finally work (which I found here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3857489):
    Utilities/Terminal, paste: sudo python '/Volumes/LicenseRecovery 11.6.1/LicenseRecovery/'LicenseRecover.py
I did all the steps on the screen until it was complete, then I was able to open PS, which prompted me for my serial number. Worked. There might hve been an easier way that I missed, but I'm just glad it's fixed. Do you really think CS 4 is that old? It's only one version ago, no?
    Thanks again,
    Lisa

  • LR on Mac: Error changing modules, empty interface

I've been happily using LR 1.3.1 on Mac OS 10.5.2 for several weeks. Suddenly, on starting LR, I got an error message like "An error was encountered while changing modules". Dismissing the error dialog resulted in a completely empty LR interface, no side panels or filmstrip, just the upper bar. Any click on a module tab resulted in the same message.
Creating new catalogs, changing/reloading catalogs, nothing helped.
I've even completely wiped LR off my machine, including deleting the preferences and application support directories. I tried both installing off original CD and downloading from the website. I no longer get the message, now nothing shows up, not even the gray background. The only thing appearing is the LR menu. If I try to load an old catalog, I go back to the same message and empty LR interface.
This is a disaster. I had over 20K images cataloged. Please, someone give me an answer for this.
    Cliff

So what you are saying is that after re-installing LR you get the same message?
I am not sure if you are getting this message due to the way you set up how LR selects which catalog. As you know, you can select to open the the recent catalog or to prompt you to make the selection.
Did you do that? or maybe you forgot or maybe you didn't indicate the path where you installed your catalog

  • Error 150:30 on new iMac with Yosemite

I upgraded from an 8-year old iMac to a new iMac with Yosemite. After migrating everything over, I can't run PSE because it said some files were missing. I re-installed the software using my original disk. Then I got a 150:30 Error. Help!

You can never, never migrate an installed copy of PSE. It's just too complex and has bits scattered all over your hard drive. Unfortunately, one of the things that does migrate is the file that tells PSE it's not on the authorized drive anymore. To deal with this at this point you will need to download and run this:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
After which you can go around and manually remove all the bits of PSE that you can find, not only from Applications, but also from the library at the top level of your hard drive>application support>adobe, and your username>library>preferences. Spotlight will not help you here; it's programmed to skip these kinds of files. If you need help finding those libraries, post back.

  • Mac App Store Error 18 in brand new iMac, doesn't allow me to update Mountain Lion, iPhoto and iMovie.

    Hi there,
When I try to update iMovie, iPhoto and Mountain Lion I get this error: "Error in the App Store. Try again later. (18)".
Just wanted to know if anybody had the same Error from Mac App Store as I've been searching in the Apple Support Communities and other websites but haven't been able to find any solutions to the problem.
I have a new iMac 21 inch running Mountain Lion, I received it a couple of weeks ago.
Thanks a lot for your help.

    Hi,
I tried to update them all together and also separately but just couldn't be done.
I don't remember having accepted anything regarding iLife apps during the iMac set up to be honest.
I still haven't tried any of the iLife apps, but why would this matter?
I should be able to update without any problem and still get the same "Error in the App Store. Try again later. (18).
I just saw this other post and it looks exactly the same problem as I have, but nobody seems to know how to solve it either:

  • Chroma Upsampling Error (Chroma Bug) on new iMac

I just scored my 24" 2.4GHz iMac last Friday, and I've been geekin' on it non-stop ever since. I'm completely in love with it. I do have one complaint tho, and it goes to the DVD drive and it's MPEG decoder: my 24" iMac displays a glaringly obvious chroma bug problem on animated DVD content ("The Inredibles", and "The Lion King" are prime examples). I'm guessing this is only "glaringly obvious" because the screen is sharper and clearer than any I've used before :-/
If you're not familiar with this problem, the short version is that on high definition progressive displays, the color information in incorrectly decoded MPEG-2 content (the format for DVD, among other uses) appears blocky and jagged -particularly in bright red objects. You may have a screen full of crystal clear detail, but everything red looks like it has been worked over with a hot bag of nickles. The problem is endemic to the entire chroma (color) portion of the signal, but most obvious in bright red areas.
The chroma upsampling conversion problem has been understood and solutions for it have been identified for years. Why is Apple still using MPEG decoder manufacturers who can't keep up with their delisciously-sharp HD displays? Nobody (that I know of) is using the dual-layer superdrive in any kind of interlaced NTSC environment. In other words, there's no excuse for this.
I'm guessing that within a year or two, they'll be stufing BlueRay or HD DVD drives in these boxes by default, and I'll be willing to bet they won't bother to address it then either, because the content will be of higher resolution, and therefore less noticable. It just ticks me off that they would leave such a huge compromise in the DVD playback capability of these new machines.
    Anyone else notice it?

I noticed the effect. Cars is a grievous example, but it's apparent on non-animated DVDs as well. It does seem to be noticeable only on bright reds. (Just about unwatchable, however, was an old movie "Track of the Cat" - if you've seen it, you'll guess why.)
Could you explain a bit more about the cause of this, as you understand it? Why would it be specific to the new iMac? What can be done to alleviate/correct?

  • I am getting an error message error: 150:30 on new iMac

PSE worked fine on old Mac. Bought new one and all my other apps are working fine but pse. I get msg below. Ive restarted with no success. I don't have the original download or a CD. Any ideas?

I'm afraid you're kind of stuck unless you can find your original media. You can never, never, never successfully transfer an installed copy of PSE from one drive to another. PSE is not a tidy package like most mac apps and it strews stuff all over your hard drive. Neither you nor the Migration Assistant can find all the bits and pieces.
You always have to install from scratch on a new drive. With PSE 8 mac this is a problem, since you can't enter a serial number into the trial and disc versions and downloads had mutually incompatible serial numbers then. Adobe makes other versions of PSE available for download, including PSE 8/win, but not the mac version of PSE 8 because of this.
You really need to find your original installation media to get any further with this. If you can track that down I can tell you how to clean up the mess on the new drive so that you can install it, but without that there's not much to be done, unfortunately.
