LightRoom external edit issue

When I choose edit in Silver Efex Pro 2, a TIFF file is created and because I have the setting "Stack with Original" checked, it keeps the photos together.  The problem is that it then moves both files (RAW and new TIFF) to the end of my LightRoom library.  Even if I am working on photos that are thousands from the end, it will push both files out to the end.  On another computer with the exact same settings the files stay put as they should in their original location.  I'm not sure what to try next.

Thanks, I changed the sort function to "Capture Time" which eleminates the hassle of sending the file to the end.  This creates a small problem in that while you are on vacation if you are snapping pictures on an iphone and DSLR it will blend those images together based on actual time you took the photo rather than showing the photos exactly in the order they were imported.  I guess there is always the option of toggleing back to "Added Order" to see the images grouped by import.  Thanks!

  • HELP - Issues with external edit in lightroom cc

Hi!  I'm relatively new to lightroom and this was working but now isn't & on both of my mac computers so I'm stumped.
I have preferences set to open external edits as tiff in photoshop cc.
When I right click a jpg & choose "edit" - it doesn't matter which of the 3 options I choose lightroom creates a second jpg and opens it in photoshop... when I make changes & go to exit - it brings up a save as box.... I can either hunt for the jpg & lose my photoshop data (end photo is right obviously) or save as psd/tiff but then I have to import it back into lightroom....
I just processed a whole bunch of mixed raw/jpg photos & I swear this worked for all of them.  This is a jpg not a raw but that's the only difference & I am pretty sure I had jpg's in the last bunch I edited.
    So frustrated!
Attaching my external edit preference box & also a view of the file lightroom creates when I try to edit in photoshop.

I suggest trying the simplest fix first, which is to close all applications, shut down your system OS. Restart the system, reopen LR and PS, and try it again.
If the problem persists reset LR's Preferences file. Rename it 'com.adobe.Lightroom5.plist.OLD' instead of deleting the file.
How do I reset Lightroom's Preferences? - The Lightroom Queen
If still no change try resetting PS's Preferences file by renaming the same as suggested above 'Adobe Photoshop CC Prefs.psp.OLD.'
    Photoshop preference
    Filename
    Path
    General settings
    Adobe Photoshop CC Prefs.psp
    Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CC Settings
You can easily restore both original Preferences file if the issue isn't fixed by deleting the new file and removing .OLD from the original file.

  • Lightroom 4 doesn't detect Photoshop Elements 9/10 for external editing

    Hi,
I own Photoshop Elements 9 and recently decided to install trials of Lightroom 4 and Photoshop Elements 10.  For whatever reason, Lightroom doesn't detect Photoshop Elements 9 or 10 for external editing.  I need to make sure this functionality works before proceeding with purchasing Lightroom and possibly Photoshop Elements 10.  Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?
    Thanks,
    Matt

If you trigger the shutter with the tether bar capture button, the image must finish downloading before another photo can be captured. Triggering a capture with the shutter release button on the camera does not have this limitation.
Images do not save to the compact flash card. They are only downloaded to the computer.
Only one Nikon camera can be attached at a time.
Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Mac OS X 10.6 are not officially supported for the D3x, D90, and D5000, but they can still work.

  • How do I change the default external editing program in Lightroom 5?

I have Photoshop CS3 and CS5 Extended on my computer. CS3 is the default external editing program Lightroom 5 chose to use to open files during initial setup, which causes selections such as "Open as Smart Object or Merge to Panorama" to be grayed out. How can I change the default to CS5 Extended, short of removing the CS3 version on my system? Thanks for you help!

  • Lightroom 3 exporting issue: exported JPGs come out with much more noise than original edited files

    Hi all,
My first post here so nice to meet everyone. I've been having some issues with exporting in Lightroom recently. It appeared to happen quite out of the blue. Sometimes when I export my edited .cr2 files as jpgs (in srgb), at a good quality (no less than 85), some of resulting jpgs seem to have exposure higher and/or a horribly large increase in the amount of visable noise. It seems many of the photos which this occurs in have pretty high settings for fill light, but even still, the noise is not visable in lightroom while editing the metadata linked .cr2.
I thought it might be the problem that I'm viewing the final exported jpgs in preview, but I also tried adding them back into the catalog and they look just as off. I just upgraded to 3.3, but it seems to be having the same issue. If anyone can please help, it would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

No sharpening at all during my export, Ian. Sometimes I sharpen for screen at a standard strength, but I turned it off when I started seeing the extra artifacts but the results of the exports remains basically the same with or without sharpening.
However when I import it seems my photos already have some sharpening on them in the develop module. The settings there are sharpening = 25, radius = 1, Detail = 25, masking = 0. I honestly rarely mess with the sharpening, so I guess I skipped over those settings during the countless hours I have worked with LR! But I assume those are normal post import numbers, correct? I never apply development settings during import, that's why I say that. Thanks for keeping up the conversation and brainstorming Ian! Anyone else also free to chime in.

  • Custom Camera Profile Disables External Editing?

I'm using Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CS5.  The problem is that if I apply a custom camera color profile created by X-Rite Passport Color Checker, I can no longer use an external editor, such as Photoshop, to edit my photos.  Before I apply the custom profile, the external editor function works just fine.  If I apply a custom profile in the Camera Calibration panel, then the ability to use external editors no longer works.  There is no error message, but nothing happens when I try to edit in an external editor.  If I go back and turn off the custom profile and go back to Adobe Standard, then the external editor function works again.  What is going on?  Is there a way to make it possible to apply a custom profile in Camera Calibration and still be able to use the external editors?

A suggestion: it sometimes happens that the main "edit in PS" function gets.. a bit confused. I agree with the other posters that it's critical which program is to render your image to an editable state (ACR, or LR)... which also means, whether PS is going to simply open up an already-saved file from disk, or be passed instructions to have ACR make it an unsaved image in memory.
Perhaps there is some issue with ACR seeing the folder where Passport is saving its special camera colour profiles via LR - the more standard ones are located in a structure shared by both programs, the same as with lens profiles. This will only be a difficulty, if it is ACR which is trying to do the job of rendering the image.
Just to clarify: normally when we say LR version such-and-such is compatible with ACR version such-and-such, we are assuming that the latest available Process Version is being used within Lightroom. For any individual image which happens to be set to an earlier Process Version, the compatibility with ACR operates, as if an earlier version of LR was being used. So (for example) one image using PV 2012 would get necessarily rendered by LR when you selected "Edit in PS" with PS CS5, because that is known not to support PV2012. But another image using PV2010 might get sent directly to CS5's ACR within the same setup (provided not earlier than 6.7), without giving the option, since that version of ACR IS known to support that generation of image adjustments.
To troubleshoot whether external editing is or is not possible, it can be helpful to set up Photoshop manually as a LR external editing preset (I find this useful anyway). This is done within the lower, "additional" part of the External editing tab in LR Preferences. By browsing direct to the Photoshop executable, you can specify whether 32-bit or 64-bit, also set up the bitdepth and colourspace, and explicity name that. When this name is then selected against an image from the "Edit in..." context menu, it is definitely Lightroom that renders the image - you can be sure that ACR is not involved.
If Lightroom cannot render an image under such an external editing preset, save it to disk / add a new imported image version, and have PS open that, when a {Passport profile is selected - but those things can happen when (say) Adobe Standard is selected, then AFAICT that narrows down on LR's ability to use the profile which Passport has made. I'd still have expected some kind of a warning message.
Even if PS was for some reason unable to open the image, but LR had definitely been the one told to render it - I would not expect to have "nothing" happen. I would expect to see a new image version in LR stacked with the original - named (by default) either [Imagename]-edit.tiff or [imagename]-edit.psd - which looked exactly the same as the current LR edits, only hard-rendered into a flat pixel file.
    regards, RP

  • How do I add DxO 9 as a lightroom external editor?

I posted this in the beginners section but was recommended to move it to more advanced viewers.  I have lightroom 5.3  I want to use DxO 9 from within Lightroom as an external editor, to both convert raw to tiff and make use of the lens corrections.  I want to have both Raw files and tifs created by DxO 9 in my catalog.  I can do it externally then import both folders after I do the work in DxO or possibly do it within Lightroom using DxO 9 as an external editor.  The instructions in the Lightroom help section tell me I can add the program as an available external editor by going to "photo" dropdown and select edit in and then pick the "provided link" which lets me insert a link to DxO 9 but such an option does not appear in lightroom 5.3 as best as I can find.  Is it possible to do this or do I just avoid lightroom until I use DxO to create my altered tif files and then import both folders (tiff and NEF raw) into Lightroom.  I am in windows 8 pc

From LR's Edit In item in the right-click context menu, after you have set it up in Preferences/External Editing, you can send DxO a tiff file with LR's rendering. However you can't send the original Nef and even if you could DxO would not be able to read and implement LR's editing instructions, even if they are saved to an xmp file. And the opposite is true also, edits and image alterations done by DxO can only be brought to LR in a tiff exported from DxO. Neither program will alter the Raw image data directly.

  • I have a problem with external editing preferences where Photoshop will not launch when I choose "Edit In"...

Hi. I have a problem with external editing preferences. If I add Photoshop as an external editor, it won't launch when selected, if I add it as an additional external editor it will. Why? How can I fix this as I need to use Photoshop and another program as the additional external editor.
I use a Mac running OS X (10.8.5) and PS CS4 and LR 5.7. Any ideas on a fix? Thanks in advance.

I don't know why Photoshop won't start. However, it's possible to create external editor presets using the additional external editor tools. There are instructions on how to do this in the Lightroom help. You could assign Photoshop and create one preset, and then assign another program and create another preset.
I don't know if deleting your preferences would fix the problem or not. It can sometimes fix other problems.

  • How to change the suffix for externally edited files?

    Hi,
How can I change the suffix Lightroom adds to externally edited files?
If I want it to be "-E" instead of "-Edit" for example, or "-Mod" instead of the long and ugly "-Modifier" in french version.
That would help me to get shorter filenames.
    Thank you!

  • External Editing Shows Elements Not PS CS3

I have Windows Vista on a PC. I also have Photoshop CS3, Photoshop Elements, and Photoshop Lightroom on my computer. When I started using LR, my preferences in LR showed PS CS3 as my primary external editing software for LR. That is the way I liked it. Now, all of a sudden LR is showing Elements as my primary external editor, but I don't know why this happened or how I can change it back to CS3. I have now, since the time Elements showed up as primary on my Preferences, inserted PS CS3 as my secondary editor under LR but I'd like to make CS3 my primary editor. Anyone know how to change the preferences the way I'd like?
FYI, even though I now use LR, I'd still like to keep Elements on my computer for period of time. Just in case I change my mind about LR or need to access my photos in a way I cannot in LR. I'd also like to avoid, if I can, changing the registry on my computer.
    Thanks.
    Peter

Yes, archiving means effectively what you wrote. Onna Mac, it's easy to zip the file in place, then delete the application.
If you do this, you probably won't have to deal with PS matters; but I should add you'd then delete the LR prefs, and reset. Then your PS CS3 should pop into place as the default.
As to the reinstall, better have a Windows person advise, but again, I'd try the first one first.

I'm not sure, but maybe you should get rid of the redundancy that you have in your CREATE TABLE statement.
    This line covers all fields:
FIELDS TERMINATED BY "," OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"'
    {code}
So I would change the field list to:
    {code}
    DATE1 CHAR (10),
    DATE2 CHAR (10),
    POL_PRTY CHAR (30),
    P_NAME CHAR (30),
    P_ROLE CHAR (5)
    {code}
    It worked on my installation.

  • External edit (TIFF) and metadata

For some weeks (I guess since I'm using Max OS X Lion or since I'm using LR 3.6) I got a problem with all external edited photos after the external changes are imported into Lightroom.
If I make any changes on metadata (or editing the photo in develop module) after I've edited a photo in an external editor (in this case it is Nik Silver Efex Pro 2) Lightroom can't write metadata anymore.
The original files are DNGs created from Leica M9 DNGs (uncompressed) by Lightroom 3.6 on import and I use TIFF-copies for external editing in SEP2.
To be completely clear, here's my workflow:
    import as DNG
basic edits in LR develop module
    right-click > edit in > SEP2
use copy with LR-changes: TIFF, 240dpi, ProPhoto RGB, ZIP-compession
convert to black and white in SEP2
save and go back to LR
change metadata or sometimes make some further adjustments in LR develop module
    >>>  warning sign on photo (grid view)!
If I then re-import the metadata from the file all changes in Lightroom after the external editing are gone. Saving the metadata again doesn't work and changes nothing.
Does anybody know if that's a bug (in LR, Lion or SEP2) or if I can do anything to prevent that problem in future?

Sorry I should have been clear - I am referring to IPTC metadata.

  • Color Space for external editing

I know I can set LightRoom Preferences to open an image in Photoshop, but it seems my only choices are ProPhoto RGB, Adobe RGB or sRGB as working spaces. I'd like to set it up to use BetaRGB as my standard editing space. I know I could open in ProPhoto and convert to Beta RGB, but that is an extra step each and every time I edit an image. I would prefer to go straight from LR to Beta RGB in Photoshop.
Is there any way to do this or am I stuck with one of the big three? If I can change it, how?
    Thanks,
    Lou Dina

Thanks...that'll work, though I'd prefer if Adobe allowed the use of any profile for external editing to retain the features you mentioned.
I just created an Export preset, with Beta RGB, full sized PSD, save to same folder, add to catalog and open in Photoshop after the export is complete. That'll work.
    Thanks,
    Lou
