Lightroom folder restoration

I have all my photos stored in a folder entitled LR photos. I went into my built in hard drive on my iMac and decided to erase all the old LR backups since I thought I didn't need them. I thought that all I needed was the latest LR folder but when I opened up LR all my latest photos and the corresponding sections that I put them in were not up to date. How do I go and restore the latest version of my backups. I did go into the trash and put all of the folders back where they belonged so I know I did't lose the photos but I need to restore the latest version. Also, I had used the latest date on the folders but apparently that did not bring all my latest photos and categories back. Thank you for any help on this issue.
Glenn

Hi Jim,
I did look on the internet and fortunately I found that all I had to do was
to go to the Catalogue section and reinstall the backup. I hit the panic
button but all is good now. I was referring to the folder that contained
my catalogue. I was able to restore it and now all is good-phew!
But I am wondering-can I delete the old backups without endangering all the
work I put into categorizing my photos? They do take up a lot of space.
Thanks for getting back to me on my original question.

  • Mysterious Lightroom folder files.

    Hello all-
I just want to preface my question by saying I apologize for being the kind of user who expects a fast response / solution and then leaves the forum until my next problem arises. I'm fairly savvy with Adobe apps but I don't feel like I'm at a point where I could answer other users questions yet.
Moving on, here's some background on my computer:
I run a 2008 Macbook Pro 5,1 wit 8GB ram, 128GB SSD for my boot drive and a 256GB in my old optical bay that I use as a storage drive. I point Lightroom and all of my apps to this 'storage' drive for big file storage.
    And here is my issue:
At some point in the last year, I flooded my Lightroom folder with cache files. I believe I did this by syncing my Lightroom folder to another drive with the app open. Is that a reasonable explanation for what could have happened? I'm also unclear about a few other files.
I'm aware that I need the following:
    -Corrupt catalogs
    -.lrcat files
I'm not sure if I need any of the other files such as "temporary import data" or "temporary repair catalog"
I've attached screenshots below. I would really appreciate some help

    Bob-
Thank you. I successfully moved my cache file and changed the size of my cache allowance (the latter being your rec). I haven't run into any problems after clearing out the cache files that were in the root folder of my Lightroom folder.
Now, I'm on to clearing out the other files that are highlighted in the photo below. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Time Machine and Lightroom folder issues

For some reason whenever I have opened the Lightroom app, edited some photos and then close the app, Time Machine will do a FULL backup of this folder, which is over 30GB. This is not what I want, apparently, and I don't understand why it is doing this. Is there a setting somewhere that I am missing?

It's not just a file that's been back upped, it's the entire Lightroom folder with all the images folders within it. Even when only one file inside that folder was changed, the entire Lightroom gets back upped. Time Machine handles all other folders perfectly fine, even the iPhoto library. This behaviour is new to me as it never happened before, but started happening after I did a clean install of Mavericks.
I've reset permissions, trashed the Time Machine preference file, started in safe mode, but nothing helps. I currently have the folder added to me exclusion list, but that's not what I want, because I used TM to back up my files.

  • Dng and tif file with the same name, in the same Lightroom folder

If I have both a dng and tif file with the same name, in the same Lightroom folder, I can only see and access one of them. Is there a setting I can change in order to see both of them?

If you can only see one of them, which one can you see?
Was the DNG and the TIF imported at the same time?
How are you trying to "access" the files?
The more details you can provide, the more likely it is that someone will be able to help you.

  • 10.6.2 - cant rename a user folder restored from Time Machine

click a brand new user folder created on a 10.6.2 desktop then hit enter on keyboard = filename highlites
click a user folder restored from a Time Machine backup then hit enter on keyboard = filename does not highlite (allows itself to be opened however). This folder can be duplicated but not moved to another "normal" user folder (gets permissions error)

I figured I would contribute to the community as I have the resolution this time - tried Terminal xattr -d command but this didnt seem to work very well
What did work was to download MacPilot:
    http://www.koingosw.com/products/macpilot.php
And use its Files and Folders / Wipe Access Control List data function.
Simple to use and this worked.
I found that to delete a file, I had to put it into a folder, no big deal, and in fact this did work as well.

  • Default pre-dated history folder restoral

default pre-dated history folder restoral (today -yesterday)
accidentally delete entire folders . How can they be restored

Cor-el , Thanks for feedback on this issue.
These folders have not reappeared as you indicated.
In fact, if i go to History tab on Mozilla, then to tab for "show all history" a sidebar drop down of my bookmarks folders opens on left of pg.
First 3 folders under History are:1 This month 2. September. 3. August .
The 7 day history folder is now not there either, or the Yesterday or Today Folder as previously reported.
Further on the right of this page that shows browsing history, the last date of recorded browsing history (In "This Month" folder) goes back to Oct. 5th, 2010. Apparently the date in which I accidentally deleted the default folders named "Today" & "Yesterday". Any additional suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Lightroom 3 - restore a deleted folder from HD?

    Hello!
When I first began using LR I don't think I understood the navigation correctly, because for one project, back in June, I created a folder and moved favorites (flagged and 5-starred) from other folders into that one. What I didn't realize until 5 minutes ago is that it actually moves those files on your HD as well! The folder in LR has long since been deleted and for a heart-stopping 15 minutes or so I thought all my favorite photos were gone as well.
What I found, however, was the original project folder with all my favorites on my HD. So that's okay - problem is, now when I try to bring the folders back into LR, it treats them all as new, untreated photos. It doesn't recognize them. It doesn't recognize any adjustments I've made, either. Even in Finder when I open the photos, they're all totally untreated.
My question: is there a way I can get LR to recognize those photos again? Or am I going to have to go one by one and re-do all my adjustments, keywords, and folder placement?
    Thanks!
p.s. - I don't use LR's backup because I have an online backup service, but thanks to Murphy's Law, that's also on the fritz...

    mmrempen wrote:
Thing is, I don't see how deleting the folder in LR (but not on the HD) would totally erase all adjustment information. Doesn't LR store that info somewhere else? Or inside the photo directly? Where did that info go?
That is logic: LR is a database(=catalog) with records about your images.
You can tell LR to delete a folder from its catalog, but not from the HD. This is tantamount to telling LR to throw away all information it ever had about these images.
As you speak of "project folders" you might err by thinking LR should work like e.g. DxO, but it does not.
LR is a metadata-database, nothing else.
There is a remote chance that you might get things back, if you had saved LR's catalog settings into xmp of the files (so sidecar files for proprietary raw formats, embedded for TIF, DNG, JPG). Did you ctrl s or have your preferences set to autowrite xmp?
I am afraid not, since you report that a new import does not reveal your former work - which it would, as import reads xmp if available.
So tough luck, I'm afraid. If you tell LR to delete from its database, it does so.

  • PS CS3 random errors with Lightroom folder when making contact sheets

When I make contact sheets in Photoshop CS3 of photo files in a folder of images exported from Lightrom Beta 2, it places some of the pictures randomly across the contact sheets, especially when I have more than 60 or more images. The first shot will always show at the end of the set of proofs 5 across, 6 rows down, but some images from the end of atake will end up scattered across the other sheets. If I make a set of contact sheets from images in a folder of the original images, not worked on in Lightroom, they come up perfectly. What can I do to fix this? I had it working OK in Lightroom Beta 1. I'm Working in PC XPSP3. A thousand thanks in advance. Cliff Moore

First, LR3 final has been released.
This doesn't seem to be a problem of LR, rather Photoshop.
Why don't you make the contact sheet in Lightroom?
Why do you think the order is incorrect. Did you check the file names? I guess the order depends on this.

  • Export from Lightroom: folder not found.

New Problem with export from Lightroom. I always have to select the folder where to save to, even if it was selected before. This means I have to click on an already activated folder at every export.  Why? This problem wasn't there before.
I always use the option "choose folder later on" at the export dialog box.
Error message: "Es wurde kein Zielordner für diesen Vorgang angegeben."
    Thanks for help folks!
    Best
    Bernd

Normally when Lightroom says "not enough memory", that's exactly what the problem is, you don't have enough memory.
A partial solution would be to make sure no other applications are running when you do this export.
The real solution is to make sure your computer has both 8GB RAM (or more) and a 64 bit operating system. One of these by itself without the other will not improve the situation.

  • Jpegs not appearing in lightroom folder

I have LR5 and something weird just happened. I had my jpegs showing up fine but now they are not - only in one particular folder set.
When I go to filter, I don't even see jpegs as a file option. I know that the files are there on my computer, but it seems like LR is not reading them. I've hit synchronize folder and still nothing. When I export an image to jpeg, still doesn't find it.
What could it be? I know it's probably really simple!!!
    Thanks!

There are no JPGs showing in a folder according to Lightroom?
That means the Filter won't allow you to filter for JPGs. That seems perfectly reasonable to me.
The files are there on your computer but not in Lightroom in that folder? That must mean that Lightroom thinks they are in a different folder, because they were (accidentally?) imported to a different folder.
What happens if you do all four of the following steps in order?
In the Catalog Panel on the left side of the Library Module, click on All Photographs
Turn off all Filters with Ctrl/Cmd-L
    Photo->Stacking->Expand All Stacks
Now search for one such JPG photo by file name; I'm sure you will find it

  • MS-Outlook 2003 can't see messages in folder restored with imsrestore

Hello. We're using IMS 5.2 under HP/UX. When I restore messages into a new folder with the imsrestore -n command, MS-Outlook sees the folder but it appears empty. It also cannot rename or delete the folder. Outlook says to check the folder permissions. Eudora 5.1 can see the messages, and delete the folder.
I'm using this command because I want to restore message into a new folder so users will be able to easily see what's been restored. I haven't found any reference to this problem from Microsoft or other IMS users. Any ideas?
Here is the imsrestore command that I used:
    imsrestore -f {backup file for single user} -n
    Tape Version : 2
    Backup Date : Thu, 13 Apr 2006 11:28:29
    Incremental : Wed, 12 Apr 2006 01:00:00
    Message Store : mymail
    Block factor : 20
    /mymail/ALL/dpelinka restoring...
    /mymail/ALL/dpelinka/INBOX-> /mymail/ALL/dpelinka/INBOX.041306.152824 restoring...
    /mymail/ALL/dpelinka/INBOX/22455 restoring...
    /

I looked at this problem again today. The command imsrestore -f ${RSTDIR}/${file} -n is successful and creates a new mailbox with a name like: Inbox.042706.162202. The folder and restored messages are visible with our Luminis portal web client, and with Eudora. Outlook 2003 can see the folder but not the messages. If I try to delete the folder with Outlook, it says "unable to delete folder...the server responded 'mailbox does not exist'". This leads me to think there could be some kind of permission problem.
Looking at the mailbox on the server I see this:
    drwx------ 2 lumadmin staff 1024 Apr 14 21:43 =+Archive
    drwx------ 2 lumadmin staff 1024 Apr 14 23:10 =+Deleted

    -rw------- 1 lumadmin staff 201 Apr 27 16:38 store.sub
    -rw------- 1 lumadmin staff 59 Apr 27 16:38 store.usr
Inside the restored folder I see this:
    drwx------ 2 lumadmin staff 1024 Apr 27 16:22 00
    -rw------- 1 lumadmin staff 24116 Apr 27 16:25 store.idx
    -rw------- 1 lumadmin staff 36 Apr 27 16:38 store.usr
The permssions on the files in the restored folder look the same as the other folders. I tried reconstruct -f user/dpelinka/INBOX, but it made no difference. This could be a problem with the IMAP implementation in Outlook. Can you think of any other things I should check? Thanks.

  • 8 corrected sequential images disapeared out of a lightroom folder. Can I retreive any information

Professional photographer. 90,000 images in catalog. MAC OS 10.7.4 16GB ram 4TB external
Lightroom user since 1.0  I did not throw them in the trash. The source files are available on my 16 TB Drobo, but I don't wand to do the corrections all over again. Also, Photoshop 5.5 does not allow saves accept to desktop. Multiple restarts to all applications and computer. No change. Any suggestions?

Yes, it did find it. And, after several hours or struggle, I finally got everything pointing to where all the parts can find themselves. Far too complicated to explain, but the most helpful was shutting down and disconnecting the external hard drive. Upon reconnecting, everything seemed to remember where it was. Magic.
    Thanks for the help.

  • How to integrate desktop DNGs into Lightroom folder structure?

I had a crisis earlier this year when I bought a Canon 6D just before a trip and realized too late that Lightroom 3 on my MacBook wouldn't accept it. So in desperation I downloaded Adobe's DNG converter, which solved the immediate problem, but for some reason Lightroom 3 wouldn't automatically put 'em in neatly dated folders like it did with the old Canon raw files, so I had to put 'em into folders on my desktop. Any suggestions on how to straighten out the mess?

Thanks for this, sorry I didn't respond earlier. I don't remember the details now but during the trip, when I stuck the card from the 6D into the MacBook, Lightroom 3 wouldn't accept the images. So I converted them to DNGs and then Lightroom would accept them.
I'm just embarking on another trip (still using LR3 in my MacBook for reasons I won't bore you with) so I'll pay closer attention this time and see if I can benefit from your advice. Thanks again.

  • Can you use cache from lightroom to restore lost photos

I have somehow deleted pictures from my hard drive and all i have left is the cache folder. There are several .dat files ( 1 gig worth ) in the folder but I can't seem to extract them. Is there any way to extract these .dat files to their original files?

There is 1 gig of data in the irdata folder but there aren't any previews in the catalog.
You know the funny thing is ( well not really funny) but I have 4 hard drives in my computer, 2 external hard drives, one with a 1 tgig and the other with 2 tgig you would think I have enough backup.... well in a matter of a week i moved all my wife's pictures out of the 4 internal hds to the 2 externals and they both crashed so the only pictures we have left are the ones I hard copied onto discs before I got the externals.  Its going to cost around $1200 to recover (if they can) the pictures from One of the external hds. So don't think you are safe with just 1 extra hard drive !!! Make Hard Copies Always!!!!
