For the student edition of Lightroom, are updates automatic and free or do you need to pay for updates?

Same as any other version: minor version updates are free. Major version upgrades are paid for.
e.g. Lightroom 5.0 to 5.4 is free. Lightroom 4.0 to 5.0 is a paid for upgrade.

If you took the time to register Lightroom with Adobe then you can log into your Adobe account and get your serial number from there. If you still have the old computer with Lightroom installed on it the serial number can be retrieved from C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Lightroom. Open the lrreg file using Notepad and you can read the number. Note that the ProgramData folder is a hidden folder. It will be necessary for you to change so that your system browser will show hidden folders. If you are on a Mac the path is /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 (Student/Teacher): Questions before purchasing

Hi,
I'm considering purchasing Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 (Student/teacher version). I have several questions I was hoping to get answered before I do so. I'll list them here...
Does the Student/Teacher version have all the same capabilities and functionality as the standard version of this product?
The software is being offered as a download by a [reputable] 3rd party vendor. Can the software be downloaded to more than one computer in my household? (The same vendor does offer a hard-copy version for a mere $2 more, and I'm wondering if I shouldn't just buy that one to be safe.)
One of the primary tasks I need to do with my digital photos most often is resize them, in large batches. Does Lightroom 5 have the capability to do that?
And finally, is anyone familiar with purchasing Student/Teacher software? Is my email address with .edu extension enough to satisfy eligibility requirements?

Lightroom and Photoshop or two completely different animals in a lot of ways. It isn't a question of either/or, but rather when to use the Lightroom and when to turn to Photoshop.The differences are too great to go into a detailed explanation on a forum such as this. I use both Lightroom and Photoshop. Lightroom is my starting point for all of my work, and I do easily 90% of my work using Lightroom. But sometimes there are things that Lightroom can't do, or Photoshop just does better.
Without going into a lot of detail, Lightroom does not modify the pixels in your image file. All changes and adjustments are stored in what is called the catalog, which is really a database. When you want copies of those images to share that include all of the Lightroom adjustments you export copies for that purpose. Because of this approach to editing, there are some things that Lightroom cannot do. That's where Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, or some other editor comes into play.
Looking back, it's easy to start editing using Lightroom. The thing I had a hard time getting my head around at first was the need to export copies of images to share with others, or to send to a lab, etc. As soon as you have that concept ingrained into your workflow I think Lightroom can be a very powerful tool. But it won't do everything, stitching panoramas, removing objects from images, and other such tasks are easier performed with other software. I'm not saying this to discourage you from Lightroom, but rather to encourage you to consider purchasing Lightroom with another product such as Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. There is "interconnection" between the two programs built into Lightroom that makes the process of going back and forth between the two very simple.

I purchased lightroom 4 Student Teacher Edition. I am not a student. Will I be able to use it or do I need to return to Best Buy?

That is not correct. We are still selling CS6 software for quite some time. Where did you see an indication otherwise?
Regarding Dynamic Link: In the current versions of the applications, no suite is required. For example, if you have the single-application subscriptions for both Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC, Dynamic Link works between them. Dynamic Link is still limited to working between applications that share the same major version (i.e., CS6 with CS6, CC with CC, and so on).

Activations for Creative Cloud for student teacher edition

I need to upgrade my software and was looking into creative cloud. I am a teacher and would get the full creative cloud package. Is that a normal activation code that would work on two computers (my desktop and my teacher laptop)?
Second I have lightroom 4 and photoshop cs5 extended when downloading will that sync with my previous catalogs with all prior settings (adjustements, ratings, etc.)?

If you purchase a student teacher version you typically have to provide some kind of proof of eligibility, the required codes and process varies slightly depending on whether you purchase from Adobe direct or a reseller. The license allows you to use the software on two computers.

I'm not sure about the settings for Photoshop CS5 to Photoshop CC, I know it does it between CS6 and CC. You could post in the Photoshop forum about it.

I'am working as a volunteer in a charity organisation for people with learning dificulties. Does anyone know if i therefore can get the Student+Teacher license of Lightroom? I think I could get documents to proofe it similar to a student at school or university.

Lightroom 5 - Student/Teacher Edition

I bought the student/teacher edition of lightroom 5 from Best Buy about a week ago but my current laptop's operating system is not compatible with it. I am planning on upgrading within the next few months. Is there a time limit on activating and sending in my proof of eligiblity? And will I be able to continue using it even after I graduate?

There should not be any time limit for activating the product. I can only speak for myself but I'd recommend getting the eligibility matters settled as soon as possible.

Lightroom for students : want to use it as pay monthly

I need to download lightroom for a one semester class, if I sign up for it and pay monthly can I cancel before the year is up or do I have to keep the membership and pay when I won't be using it for more than 2 months?

Yes, adobe offers student rates as well. I would suggest calling them to make sure you are getting the correct offer as well verbally confirm that you will not have an issue when canceling after your semester. I used the full creative cloud for one semester last year and did not have an issue. I did set the account up with a representative over the phone.

How long to receive verification and serial number for student/teacher version products?

I recently purchased the student/teacher edition of adobe photoshop elements 12. i have sent in my proof of eligibility and I recieved an email saying it was recieved. How long does it take to recieve my serial number? It was sent on Saturday March 8, 2014. I'm located in Canada.

It can take some time for everything to wash thru. You should contact Adobe Support either by chat or via phone when you have serial number and activation issues.

Nachdem ich die Anforderungen für die Student and Teacher Version durchgelesen habe, bin ich darauf gestoßen, dass diese Version immer nur auf max. zwei Laptops installiert werden kann. Es wird immerwieder darauf hingewiesen, dass das Programm nur auf einem Gerät ausgeführt werden darf, gleichzeitig ist nicht zulässig.
Ich habe vor das Programm in der Student-Version auf jeden Fall auf zwei Laptops zu installieren, da ich einen Neueren nur Zuhause nutzen möchte und einen Älteren für unterwegs habe. Wäre es dann technisch durch z. B. eine Anmeldung im Programm garnicht möglich auf beiden Geräten das Programm gleichzeitig auszuführen oder schreibt das Adobe deshalb vor, weil man natürlich verhindern möchte, das zwei Nutzer über eine Lizens das Programm nutzen?
Da mein älterer Laptop wegen geringem Arbeitsspeicher ziemlich träge ist, kann ich mir schon vorstellen das Programm mal auf beiden Geräten gleichzeitig laufen zu lassen.
Macht es in dieser Thematik einen Unterschied ob ich die Student and Teacher oder die normale Version kaufe?

Lightroom kannst du problemlos auf zwei Laptops installieren. Technisch sind bei Lightroom keine Vorkehrungen getroffen die eine gleichzeitige Nutzung unterbinden. Aber die gleichzeitige Nutzung ist schlicht und ergreifend illegal. Du akzeptierst bei der Installation die Lizenzbedingungen und die besagen ganz deutlich: Installation auf zwei Geräten, gleichzeitige Nutzung -> nein.

Was soll das bringen? Dann muss du mit zwei Katalogen arbeiten oder ständig versuchen beide Kataloge zu synchronisieren.
