Lightroom freezes my PC completely

Hello,
My harddrive got formatted yesterday and so I'm working on a clean system.
I'm experiencing the full system crash when working in Lightroom. Mouse freezes, neither ctrl+alt+del or any other ways work so each time it happens only the reset button does the job.
It may helps that this error isn't triggered by a particular action, clicking somewhere, etc. It's fully random.
Here are my specs:
PC coreduo 2.66ghz
3gigs of ddr2 ram
barracuda 320gigs 16mb cache
Any help is appreciated.

I've been "trying" to use Lightroom for a couple of week or so. It is incredibly unstable on my PC (WindowsXP Pro, 1GB, gobs of hard drive space). Quite randomly it will start to thrash and use up 40-50% of the CPU. The only way to terminate it is via the Task Manager. The problem then seems to be transferred to another application, usually Windows Explorer - it then starts to thrash! I've even had an active PhotoshopCS thrash. The only recovery is a system restart.
I don't know what Lightroom is doing to the system to make it so unstable, but I'm finding Lightroom to be almost unusable - I haven't even had it stable long enough to really investigate the usefulness of its features!

  • Help! Lightroom freezes after installing.

I get this message after trying to create or open a catalog: "An error occured when attemting to change modules." Then Lightroom freezes.
I work on a Mac and have formatted and reinstalled my systemdisk with a qlean install. I had Lightroom installed and have used it for some years. But when installing the programs again I went for the Creative Cloud solution. When I tried to open my previous catalog I got this error message. And after several deinstallings and reinstallings I still get the same message and Lightroom freezes.
    Anyone who can help?

    Hi Ian.
Thank you for answering. But I find no such file in Preferences. I think Lightroom freezes before making the preference file. Other solutions?
    Best wishes,
    Magne

  • NVidia video card- Lightroom freezes at startup, stalls, crashes when switching modules [Windows]

Issue: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom freezes when you start, crashes when you switch between modules, displays blank screens in Slideshows, stalls frequently or runs extremely slowly.
Solution: The nVIDIA nView Multi-Display Technology software (also known as nView Desktop Manager) is known to cause these symptoms. If you have this software installed, please see following  Technote for resolution of problem.

Okay, I ended up replacing nouveau with the nvidia proprietary drivers.  I did a full update of my system, which I hadn't been able to do in over a month because of catalyst's conflict with xorg, and managed to get X working (sort of).  The only issue is that once X starts, and brings me to slim, the keyboard ceases to respond.  If I turn the numlock on before X starts, it turns off as soon as X starts.  Ctrl-Alt-Delete doesn't do anything either.  Not really sure where to go from here other than to switch to vesa or something
EDIT: I tried installing the beta driver as well, but nothing changed.

  • Every time I try to import photos, lightroom freezes, then crashes

Every time I try to import photos, lightroom freezes, then crashes. Any ideas? Thanks.

Thanks DdeGannes for the heads up- I knew that this was user-generated, but didn't know that Adobe doesn't reply directly.
Anyways, here's my exact query from another forum pasted (it's a lot of info to retype):
I haven't used LR 5.3 since December, and between then and now I reformatted my computer and reinstalled my basic program set. I haven't added any new programs, and if anything my current set-up should be the same as it was in December minus extra temp file bloat and a few extraneous programs.
Fast forward to today (after taking some new photos). I open up LR, and try to import but the program hangs and eventually crashes. The exact issue can be seen in this youtube video:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wg0uQvVoZYw
Thinking it was a bad installation, I proceeded to remove LR, and reinstall it. No dice.
Thinking it was a driver/program conflict issue, I booted into Safe Mode and tried to import. No dice.
I'm all out of ideas. It looks like the issue is fairly common (judging by the number of new help threads on the Adobe Community Forums. Does anyone have any experience, or better yet, any fixes for this particular issue?
In case anyone asks, my general computer set-up is below:
    Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
    LR 5.3
    AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
    8GB Ram
    128GB OCZ Agility 3 SSD
1TB WD Green HD (where photos and catalog live)
    Thanks in advance!

  • Lightroom freezes during file import

    Hi,
When I try to import photos from a drive or my camera, Lightroom freezes, often while attempting to import the first photo.  Any ideas of what the problem might be?
I'm using a Mac desktop and Lightroom 1.4.1.
    Thanks!

    Thanks a lot! That´s it!
It took me a while to understand what you had meant and to find out, where and how to change the default setting. I did not change the preset intentionally before and I´m quite sure that LR 5.7 did not do so. There is a faint suspicion that it was done by an OS X update. Perfectly horrible!
    Thankful regards

  • Lightroom freezes when exporting catalog

Hello, I have lightroom 5.7, I use an iMac OSX 10.9.5. When I export my entire collection 40,000.00 images and catalog to another external hard drive, lightroom freezes in mid session. Last night I updated to OS X 10.10.1  Thank you!

How do you go to the Web Module? Do you go from the grid with all your images, potentially hundreds to thousands of images or do you first make a Collection of you chosen images, More likely to be tens to maybe couple hundred of images.
If the former, LR maybe hanking on the renderign of so many images to what ever initial template Web is set for.
Best to do a selection of images to a Collection First. What happens if you go to Web with a Collecion of say, 50 images?

  • Has anyone experienced Lightroom freezing or hanging on every command?

Has anyone experienced Lightroom freezing or hanging on every command?

    Hello
    Lightroom 5.7.1
    OS X 10.10.3
    2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB
    iMac 21.5-inch Mid 2011
    98GB free disk space
Lightroom boots up fine and thumb nails load quickly however as soon as you attempt to do anything including scrolling it freezers (rainbow wheel) on every task. It takes around 40sec for the rainbow wheel to stop however as soon as you try another function it freezers again.
My Lightroom library sits on an external USB 3 Seagate hard drive (This drive is only two days old)
For the record I have been having the same problem with iPhoto and the new Photos. apple have been working on solving the issues with no result as yet unfortunately.
    kind regards

  • Lightroom Freezes on Import, locks up computer completely.

    Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, 16GB RAM.
    I've deleted preferences file,
    disconnected all the usb devices,
    uninstalled and reinstalled LR,
I have copied the files from the card reader to an internal HDD and imported from there.
I have five internal drives in the Desktop, each with plenty of free space.
and it still locks up the computer on import.
I have no problem with any other task in LR other than import.
    What else can I try?

Are you sure you deleted the right one? I'm looking at my preferences file and my import drop-down list sure looks like it's in there under:

  • Import photos-choose folder then Lightroom freezes

Everything was working fine until I decided to upgrade to 1.3.1. Did so and then when I wanted to (during import) choose a folder for my import the program freezes. I uninstalled to 1.3. Still same problem. Then I uninstalled everything with Lightroom (even regedit) so I had to rewrite my serialnumber during install - still the same problem. What has happened?

Thanks for the input. I think though that the problem was the following: I had started a backup of catalog thing. It might be so that it wasn´t ready (even if I thought so) before I started to upgrade to 1.3.1. So the upgrade messed around with something. Now it works, but I had to change several times in the Import Photos "screen". Change between the different possibilities and different files to import. (Chant some old shaman songs not to mention to recite the Kirchoff´s Laws was something that I did in the end - I think that actually did the trick).
But it could of course be something completely different.

  • This is different: iTunes freezes my PC completely!

    Hello!
I've searched the forums- I think my problem is unique.
Basically, the iTunes installer completely hangs my PC. I need to do a hard reset every time.
I've followed all the steps on Apple's troubleshooting guide to make sure EVERY trace of all things Apple has been removed first.
The iTunes installer hangs at the 'registering iTunes automation server' stage. My PC actually has to be reset via the power button.
This is an amazing step backwards. My initial problem was the previous version of iTunes hanging every time I even tried to open it (even in safe mode...!)- this had NEVER happened before, it was completely bizzare. So I'm trying the latest version of iTunes. But one thing at a time- I just need to get iTunes installing, first!
The only PC protection-type software I'm running is Microsoft Security Essentials. Real-time protection is off.
    Can anyone help at all?
    Cheers!

Hi b noir! Thanks for the reply!
It's home-build, has been for two-plus years. Overclocked, sure, but iTunes has never been a problem, and no other programs show any sign of even a CTD, let alone a complete PC freeze. Nevertheless, I've tried iTunes with all BIOS settings on safe, and it still crashed.
    Here's me:
Time of this report: 3/31/2010, 16:14:26
    Machine name: BEAGLE-PC
    Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_rtm.090713-1255)
    Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
    System Model: P35-DS3
    BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
    Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2160 @ 1.80GHz (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
    Memory: 4096MB RAM
    Available OS Memory: 4094MB RAM
Page File: 1989MB used, 6197MB available
    Windows Dir: C:\Windows
    DirectX Version: DirectX 11
    DX Setup Parameters: Not found
User DPI Setting: Using System DPI
System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)
    DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled
    DxDiag Version: 6.01.7600.16385 32bit Unicode
So no, not a 5-series chipset.
I have NO idea if this is relevant, but all these problems started after I got a replacement iPhone 3GS under warranty. I think the replacement is buggy- it constantly crashes. It never restored properly, crashing, I assume, during the restore. Then iTunes froze. Then the installer froze. Wah!
Is this of any help? Oh, and it's not hardware related, I don't think- I tried this HDD in another PC, same problem.
    Cheers!

  • 1000's of keywords imported - Lightroom Freezes and burns CPU

I imported approx 7000 keywords (most with hierarchical synonyms and some with sub-keywords). In other words a BIG keyword collection.
Now I cannot use Lightroom. When I start it it becomes non-responsive (Windows XP) while burning huge amounts of CPU. I have LOST ACCESS TO MY IMAGE COLLECTION!
Please, please, can someone tell me how to delete ALL KEYWORDS outside of Lightroom, so that when I start it it will be usable again?
I have searched my hard disk an cannot locate any files corresponding to "keywords".

Well, I discovered some things which may be of interest - but no actual solution.
First, I bypassed the problem completely by going back to my last "pre-keyword" catalog backup, then importing the 2 days of image files (including XMP sidecars). This gave me back a responsive Lightroom, with all my (meta)data.
Regarding Lightroom's keywords, I found that they are stored in a table in the catalog, which is actually a SQLite database. The table name is AgLibraryTag. You can install SQLite, then run it on the lrdb file:
    sqlite> .schema AgLibraryTag
    CREATE TABLE AgLibraryTag (
    id_local INTEGER PRIMARY KEY,
    id_global UNIQUE NOT NULL,
    changeEpoch INTEGER,
    dateCreated NOT NULL DEFAULT '',
    flattenedParams,
    folderInfoCache,
    genealogy NOT NULL DEFAULT '',
    imageCountCache DEFAULT -1,
    kindName NOT NULL DEFAULT '',
    lastApplied,
    name,
    parent INTEGER,
    sortDirection,
    sortOrder
doing a "select * from..." on this table gives a dump of all my keywords. So...I figured that emptying this table as follows might solve the problem, given that I hadn't actually assigned any keywords to any images:
    sqlite> delete from AgLibraryTag;
    sqlite> select * from AgLibraryTag;
    sqlite> vacuum;
    sqlite> .exit
WRONG! Lightroom loads, but all my folder information is lost.
I gave up and worked around the problem as noted above, but if anyone from Adobe reads this - you NEED to provide a way to delete large numbers of keywords. If a reasonably high-end WinTel laptop chokes on 7000 keywords then this is NOT usable software.
