Lightroom freezes on Export

I am helping a friend with her lightroom issues
She is using Lightoom 3.4.1 with Windows Vista Home Premium SP2. When she attempts to do an export, it gets a random amount through the export and the lightroom stops responing and closes. I tried the basic things (clearing temp files and such). I also tried exporting to a different hard drive, but it is the same result.

Does it happen with no matter what setings you use for export? Like Export for Email, Export to DNG etc.?
What if you use File > Export with Preset..?

  • Lightroom Crashing on Export, sometimes on import, lots of info provided

    Windows 7 64bit
I'm not technically naive when it comes to computers, building them and installing software but I've hit upon this issue which I just can't seem to resolve.
I'd like the Tech guys at Adobe to have a proper look into this please. I've a lot of situational examples and it might address a problem that seems to happen a lot not just for me but others too.
I built a new machine. A fast machine, Intel i7 3930k chip, 32gb Ram, SSD mirrored array for boot with three more SSD's for incoming, outgoing and cache drives for things like scratch, Raw Cache, Page file.
Lightroom itself, when it works, absolutely flies so it's really frustrating to have this software not work properly when I need to import something.
I paid for this software, it isn't a dodgy download.
Now I'll make something clear. I'm not assuming it's the software. But the only problems I have with my build is when using lightroom.
I've tried every version of LR4. All the release candidates and have installed the full version of 4.3 but the same problem exists.
The problem being the import and export part of the process. It'll work fine then just decide not to.
    1. At random, it'll freeze on export. Anywhere will do. If I close the program via windows it tends to lose (some) of the previous export settings.
    2. Sometimes I'll be exporting a bunch of files, only to start export them again in a smaller format for the client. A process which normally would work perfectly ok in the previous build only to find this second import will crash the machine.
    3. Importing can be a bit rubbish too but Exporting is the biggest problem causing 90% of the hang up, stalls and crashes.
In every instance, closing the software down in windows and restarting gives me a problem free run for a short period of time, I can run 6 exports simultaneously with no issue.
What I've done to rule things out:
    1. Deleted and recreated catalogues on every different drive to rule out the placement.
    2. Put the Raw Cache, Catalogue and Page files on seperate drives in various combinations to see if it made a difference.
    3. Tried every release candidate and full release.
    4. Created an exclusion for my anti virus so it doesn't interfere with any of the Lightroom related folders or Lightrom itself.
Unusual things that are worth noting:
    1. If I leave the system long enough, the 'crash' rights itself and can be looked upon as more of a stall. Like 10 minutes or so. This is true in every case that I've tried it so maybe this should be classified as a Lightroom stall issue.
    2. If I start moving around the other drives via windows, previewing other images, close explorer and reopen it it seems possible to have an effect to dislodge the stall in Lightroom, something I've noted but may be coincidental.
    Observations:
    1. I think it may be possible that Lightroom and Windows 7 are not talking to each other as they should somewhere in the process..
    2. My last system had 4.1 on it, there were no issues like this. Same OS, Same drive layout.
What I'd like to be able to do:
I want to be able to have a log file or something to really nail down the cause of this and fix it. Lightroom was the reason I spent $3000 on a new build. Yet despite running mile faster it often crashes negating any benefit whatsoever.
Adobe, this is a formal request to work with me to solve this problem.

Chris, just a heads-up - this is a user to user forum, not a formal route into Adobe support.
That said, Adobe staff do drop in on an informal basis, so good luck getting sorted.

  • FCP Freezes When Exporting to Flash Video (FLV)

Final Cut Pro 7.0.2 freezes when exporting to Flash Video (FLV). The resulting FLV file contains only a few seconds of the exported video. A 2009 Apple Support notice offers this re. FCP 6 and CS3 Flash Video Encoder...

Final Cut Pro: May quit unexpectedly when exporting to Flash
    Last Modified: February 13, 2009
    Article: TS2593
    Symptoms
Final Cut Pro may quit unexpectedly when you export using QuickTime Conversion if you choose Flash Video (FLV) from the Format menu.
    Products Affected
Final Cut Pro 6.x, Adobe Creative Suite 3 Flash Video Encoder
    Resolution
This can happen if you use the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Flash Video Encoder and Final Cut Pro together. This issue does not occur with the Flash Video Encoder in Adobe Creative Suite 4. To work around the issue:
Choose File > Export > QuickTime Movie.
Be sure to enable Make Movie Self-Contained.
Open the exported movie in QuickTime Player.
Export the movie to Flash from QuickTime Player.
    ===
I just installed CS5, so I would think I shouldn't be bothered with an older, problematic Flash Video Encoder. I don't think I should have to convert an MOV file to an FLV file using QuickTime Reader or anything else. Why doesn't it export correctly out of FCPro 7.0.2?

    oh well.

  • Help! Lightroom freezes after installing.

I get this message after trying to create or open a catalog: "An error occured when attemting to change modules." Then Lightroom freezes.
I work on a Mac and have formatted and reinstalled my systemdisk with a qlean install. I had Lightroom installed and have used it for some years. But when installing the programs again I went for the Creative Cloud solution. When I tried to open my previous catalog I got this error message. And after several deinstallings and reinstallings I still get the same message and Lightroom freezes.
    Anyone who can help?

    Hi Ian.
Thank you for answering. But I find no such file in Preferences. I think Lightroom freezes before making the preference file. Other solutions?
    Best wishes,
    Magne

After doing some editing in Lightroom I want to continue the edit in CS 5 but Lightroom is not exporting the edited version, this has not happened before, what am I doing wrong please? anybody

You should be getting an error message that PS CS5 requires a higher version of ACR with two options "render using Lightroom" or "open anyway". You should choose the first option. If you are not seeing the error message then go to your Lightroom prefrences >General Tab> under Prompts> select "Reset all warning dialogs", then try the edit in function again.

  • NVidia video card- Lightroom freezes at startup, stalls, crashes when switching modules [Windows]

Issue: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom freezes when you start, crashes when you switch between modules, displays blank screens in Slideshows, stalls frequently or runs extremely slowly.
Solution: The nVIDIA nView Multi-Display Technology software (also known as nView Desktop Manager) is known to cause these symptoms. If you have this software installed, please see following  Technote for resolution of problem.

Okay, I ended up replacing nouveau with the nvidia proprietary drivers.  I did a full update of my system, which I hadn't been able to do in over a month because of catalyst's conflict with xorg, and managed to get X working (sort of).  The only issue is that once X starts, and brings me to slim, the keyboard ceases to respond.  If I turn the numlock on before X starts, it turns off as soon as X starts.  Ctrl-Alt-Delete doesn't do anything either.  Not really sure where to go from here other than to switch to vesa or something
EDIT: I tried installing the beta driver as well, but nothing changed.

  • Lightroom won't export my exact dimensions

Lightroom won't export my exact dimension for my photos. How can I change this.

Are you running the latest version?
In Lr5.4 most but not all of such bugs are fixed.
If already running Lr5.4 then go to feedback forum and cast vote to the problem fixed.
Lightroom 5: export isn't resizing exactly to specified long edge.

  • Premiere Pro CC and CS6 freeze on export

I have a problem with Premiere freezing when exporting a video sequence.
The sequence consists of about 5 min of video from 10 different clips, so it not very big.
I want to export to H.264 format, but a few percent into the export everything freezes and I have to turn off my PC. The same thing happens with export to MPEG2 and MPEG4 formats, but not if I export to AVI format.
At first I suspected on of the clips was causing the problem, but I'm able to take all the clips one at a time, and export each one to H.264 format without any problems. Even If I take the new exported H.264 clips and put them together, and export them again as one file, it will freeze again.
The problem is the same in Premiere Pro CC and in Premiere Pro CS6.
Any ideas on what might be causing this?
    /Mark

  • Every time I try to import photos, lightroom freezes, then crashes

Every time I try to import photos, lightroom freezes, then crashes. Any ideas? Thanks.

Thanks DdeGannes for the heads up- I knew that this was user-generated, but didn't know that Adobe doesn't reply directly.
Anyways, here's my exact query from another forum pasted (it's a lot of info to retype):
I haven't used LR 5.3 since December, and between then and now I reformatted my computer and reinstalled my basic program set. I haven't added any new programs, and if anything my current set-up should be the same as it was in December minus extra temp file bloat and a few extraneous programs.
Fast forward to today (after taking some new photos). I open up LR, and try to import but the program hangs and eventually crashes. The exact issue can be seen in this youtube video:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wg0uQvVoZYw
Thinking it was a bad installation, I proceeded to remove LR, and reinstall it. No dice.
Thinking it was a driver/program conflict issue, I booted into Safe Mode and tried to import. No dice.
I'm all out of ideas. It looks like the issue is fairly common (judging by the number of new help threads on the Adobe Community Forums. Does anyone have any experience, or better yet, any fixes for this particular issue?
In case anyone asks, my general computer set-up is below:
    Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
    LR 5.3
    AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
    8GB Ram
    128GB OCZ Agility 3 SSD
1TB WD Green HD (where photos and catalog live)
    Thanks in advance!

  • Lightroom freezes during file import

    Hi,
When I try to import photos from a drive or my camera, Lightroom freezes, often while attempting to import the first photo.  Any ideas of what the problem might be?
I'm using a Mac desktop and Lightroom 1.4.1.
    Thanks!

    Thanks a lot! That´s it!
It took me a while to understand what you had meant and to find out, where and how to change the default setting. I did not change the preset intentionally before and I´m quite sure that LR 5.7 did not do so. There is a faint suspicion that it was done by an OS X update. Perfectly horrible!
    Thankful regards
